Since the forum is pretty active lately why don't we play a fun game? Below is a video with samples from 50 Goa tracks. All you have to do is to name as many as you can. Each sample is only 20 seconds, but it represents the signature melody of the track, so if you know the song you won't have a problem. Some tracks are very easy, some others may be tricky. I didn't use any obscure track from a rare release, so anyone can play.

Good game Ormion! :)

 

Most of the tracks sounded familiar to me but I could only id 9 of them without hesitation, here are my guesses

Oh I see now, but #20 sounded to me like a new school artist, to be more specific I thought it was one track he made under his alias

not very familiar with many of these at all and the ones I should know names to...NOPE! not anymore and it bugged me ;p I remembered these 7 at least..

Cool game, frustrating when you can't name a track like track 3 !!

 

I have 26 in the list,.. 5 i put in the different colour cause i'm not 100% sure :)

Damn it, I recognize many of those but have no idea what track they are :)

 

Anyway, this is after 2 listens (20 tracks), some question marks present:

Edit: damn it, a few artists right but track names wrong. And #43 I knew which speech sample is in that track but couldn't for the life of me remember what's the name of the track :D

 

P.S. #20 and #48 sounded like shit.

17 (or 22) is anything, but embarrasing. I'm actually surprised that most of you found so many.

really? Discogs says otherwise. bit i remember renaming that track back and forth multiple times every time i thought i got a more qualified source ;)

when you spend every minute in your home you're awake listening to that music and consider yourself an expert of some sort in that genre, i would have expected to at least know more than half of the tunes :).

I agree. And track 30 as well.

 

46 was easy. there's only 2 goa tracks using that unique sample and both are great.

30 on the other hand was hard indeed.

 

conversely, i was surprised that so few people got 47 and 50. both tracks are classics and have very characteristic melodies.

 

and great job to you ormion for selecting those signature parts of the tracks. the only objection i have here is numer 6, where i find the speach sample to be the most characteristic part ;)

Yes 47 was quite easy i thought

As for 50, of course the artist is easy to recognize but then you have to know the trackname and there are so many :) i had the same problem with track 6 , shame on me :lol:

I tried not to use speech samples in there. I though it might be too easy.

I took notes when I listened to the video the second time:

gonna check how many I got right. :D

 

edit: messed up a few numbers because of taking notes in real time, but scoring myself I got:

right approximations: 3, 18, 28, 36, 50 (total: 5)
almost right: 23, 29, 41 (total: 3)
completely right: 5, 6, 9, 30, 37, 39, 44, 47, 49 (total: 9)
I really love track number 18 but haven't listened to it for quite a while so the complete artist-track-title evaded me when I tried to remember it :D

wow, my list is really short here, i know quite a few tracks and artists, but could not identify one single track with certainty - quite impressive, at least for me
