  1. I'd mentioned in another thread here that I've been into electronic music including goa trance since '99, but hadn't really dug in deep into the genre until the last couple years. Death metal on the other hand has been a musical obsession of mine since '94, and I know the genre and sub genres well. It's surprising how parallel death metal and goa trance are in their histories: both saw their heyday in the early to mid '90s, both saw a strong resurgence in interest in the latter part of the first decade of the 20th century. Both have fans and artists that want to see music created in the old style to perfection, and fans and artists who want to see things progress. Nothing is intrinsically wrong with any of this. Where death metal and goa trance diverge though is that there are new death metal bands who either keep pace with the old masters, or in rare instances outperform the old masters. Almost without exception, they do it via creative songwriting. It's old but new, and amazing. Maybe when old goa heads are complaining about the new goa coming out, it's because there isn't much being released that's "old but new and amazing". It's mostly either old but new and not so amazing, or new and not so amazing, or new and amazing. This is just me speculating on something I don't know too much about and haven't put a whole lot of thought into though heh heh

  2. I don't see how that track is psy-trance at all. Also, we shouldn't leave the word cheesy behind just because its negative, EVER. Positive critique isnt the only thing that exists or that matters. I see negative critique being deleted everywhere, hell, even some of mine on FB were deleted just because they werent praising some shitty music and that is what is hurting music industry. No, not everyone has PEACE LOVE UNITY RESPECT UNICORNS FLOWERS and shit viewpoint about psy-trance or music in general. When something is straight up bad, its should be voiced and that is what this forum is good for. Filipe wrote on Ivans post on Facebook how this forum is trash because some of us bash around bad releses (even though the guy tried to invade the forum milions of times...whatever hypocrite.) And that is precisely the reason why I think this forum is so good. People have taste, they have the knowledge, they have the age so they were around when psytrance was at its peak to recognize shitty psy-trance. And that is very important!

  3. To be fair i havent listened Goa since 2012... only 10% of releases. First of all no time due too much music and gigs... plus random shit and life... just no extra few hours to check releases. But what i heard i am impressed and i really love it, example Ephedra and Celestial Intelligence albums are insta classics for me, nothing less than Moment of Truth, Transidimensional, Phenomena, Dancing Galaxy in modern terms ofcourse And when you know guys and story behind them like i do, how simple but how genius they are it gives you completly new level of understanding and loving such music. What is lovely in new school scene is that everyone is connected and united. I remember last summer on Balkan Goa Fanatics i was going together with Celestial Intelligence and Zopmanika, 10-12h on road all we could speak is about music. There we met Cosmic Dimension, Veasna, Arronax, UX, Morphic Resonance, CoaGoa, Dalton, Stevo, Richpa and plenty more others. Days over days just speaking about production, advicing each other, reviewing, and enjoying in music everyone playing. When you hear their opinions and stories you will know that nobody is making music just because they are bored or they dont have something else to do, their into this music with whole their spirit and body. 150-200 people, artists and djs going wild on dancefloor just like everyone else, hanging out with everyone, having food drinks and joints with them, it was like pure 95 for us. But yes i heard some really bad stuff, like every music now and then have good, bad and solid music. Even some my stuff i consider as crappy Someone see scene going to hell, i see it growing into something wonderful. I am not protecting anything, it's just personal and professional opinion. Quot capita, tot sententiae

  4. Hello Psychedelic Alien, thank you very much for your feedback and input regarding our work and Neogoa music. Since I'm not involved in the work of other mentioned labels here, I feel obligated to give you couple of details when it comes to our work, music and the idea in general. During the last year (2015) we published 11 releases (all of them available for free and legal download). That is ~12 hours of music, in total 77 original tracks. During that same year, Neogoa achieved over 100 000 downloads only on Ektoplazm for our 2015 releases (other releases or websites aren't counted). So, since 12 hours of music is a lot, let's see what kind of generic music we promoted. If you don't mind, I will take a few examples from our releases (since I assume you checked all of them, so it will be easier for you to understand our perspective on music and our criteria): - JaraLuca debut album: intense Goa trance music, with psytrance flavour, very agressive, but melodic enough. Probably the newcomer of 2015, just as Morphic Resonance was in 2014, thanks to generic Neogoa digital releases. - The World Beyond compilation: blend between atmospheric downtempo music and very eearie Goa trance sounds. Yet another generic newschool compilation published for free. - Proxeeus debut album: acidic Goa trance, influenced by oldschool vibe. Not for everyone, but it seems folks in Israel and Japan somehow recognized this digital (and physical) release. - Lunar Dawn debut album: fantasy elements merged with melodic Goa trance, with unique concept. I agree, you can find this kind of music on each corner. I wonder why they're getting so much invitations to play around the Europe. - The Faithealers album: oh, somehow we gave a chance to more raw, oldschool technoid Goa sound with a pinch of cinematic atmosphere made by guys behind UX and Kiwa. It can't get more generic than this. - Jagoa debut EP: chilled Goa sounds with downtempo grooves, this kind of ambient can be found on every corner, especially for free. Other releases that I haven't mentioned includes: Journey Into Sound, GoaTree, Ohm Mind, GoAtma and Sky Technology chillout compilation Sadhana. I understand that we can't have +10 releases per year and to satisfy equaly everyone or to cover all the different tastes. We get that but for Christ sake, saying that we don't have any kind of diversity and putting us in the same basket with other labels who are affraid to give a compilation name that doesn't have GOA word written all over it, or with labels who are making their artwork in MS Paint is a serious crime. As I said, I respect your opinion but I strongly disagree and I'm saying that because I listen and watch what people say or show towards our work. Do you see other label owners offering music for the reviews for free? No. Why am I doing this? Because all critic that we get makes us even stronger and better, it makes us push harder and beyond our own limits. After 6 years we are here, with our little digital label playing on the playground with big boys I am proud on myself, on our music, on our work and especially very proud on all lap top artists and on all 3 800 people on our Facebook page, at least they're real followers. Also, I am an old school goa lover by heart, just like you when I started doing this. If you want to change something, I invite you to invest your time, will, money, talent, communication skills, passion and emotion and to change and improve this generic scene. If you don't prefer dealing with music releasing or being bothered checking each month 20-30 new promos/demos (oh yes, if we do release everything we get, we would have like 300 releases per year), you can get the lap top and start making your own music, it's always interesting to explore new talents and creative minds and since it seems that you got taste for the good stuff, I would be glad to check some of it. Yet another thing, if you want so hardly to compare Neogoa with other labels in the same genre, please pay attention towards few details: - how much music they gave for free and legal download - how much music they promote, release per year - how many new artists they are promoting or discovering (or do they wait us to see how people will like generic digital releases and after they will get them for CD release) per year? Once again, thank you for your input/feedback, I hope you don't mind me sharing my perspective onto certain things regarding this scene/music. I also invite you to post more reviews for our music, I would be happy to give you high quality WAV files if you're interested Cheers!

  5. And step outside the electronic music scene, and you get the people who think all of it, including techno, is cheesey as hell and laughable. In this day and age with so many different styles of music and the ability to share with people all over the world, it's kind of silly to be elitest about it. There's nothing that is 'cool' that isn't 'uncool' to someone else.

  6. I always find it funny when people into Goa get into total lynch mode every time Full-On is mentioned. Do you know how cheesy most Techno fans think stuff like Astral Projection is? I hang with a few of the guys who used to release stuff on Richie Hawtin's Plus8 records. They burst out laughing whenever someone puts Goa on, and consider the genre genuinely bad taste. The point of no return after which Techno music went to shit. So why not just calm down a little, and realize that Trance as a form of music tends to focus on Melody and Atmosphere. Embrace that fact. No reason to write anything off just to prove a point. I'm sure there's good Full-On out there. Especially for people who can digest the cheese of Goa. Short version: You listen to cheesy music (Goa). Pretending to hate Full-On isn't going to change that fact. Get over it.
