I have been trying to get into "Leaving Home" but am having trouble with that - everyone seems to think its the greatest thing since sliced bread and I don't quite get it... I appreciate the emotion and composition of it (I think), but it also seems generally bland to me, moves too slowly, and is very sparse on melody and overall "psychedelic" factor - I find it a nice album, and something I could play for polite company, but lacks that "other-worldy" vibe that I really enjoy... I'm gonna keep listening to it though and see if I can get into the magic - like I said though, I do enjoy it, I'm just not blown away by it...

The Kino Oko album really did it for me - one of my favorite in recent times... Some of MEEO is fantastic as well (that track "Ball of Gum" is sick as fuck!!) but some of it I find abrasive and annoying - I think that is an artist to watch though, and I didn't see a Hallucinogen copycat like others said...
-
Yea I was surprised people didn't give rave reviews to that album, to me its one of the finest downtempo electronica ever...
-
Why is it not at saikosounds and psyshop etc?
-
I like this album ok but am not blown away by it.. I feel the Shulman and Ott albums have more depth..
-
Shulman - "Invention" - this track is out of this world... Shulman - "The Unexpected Visitor" is right up there too...

Let's hear some love about Dancing With Kadafi
healium replied to Ormion's topic in General Psytrance
Yah epic epic track... -
Just because someone says that it sounds "light" does not mean they do not appreciate something different and innovative... That is fallacious reasoning...
-
Is this album not being distributed through the online shops, or is it just not out yet? What is the deal with this?
-
Has anyone heard this album by Eat Static vs Propellerheads?
-
Is there a new Talpa album?

IMO psytrance is often too fast for the dancefloor - I love psytrance but 145bpm isn't so great to dance too - I hear this from friends of mine who love dancing to electronic mnusic but say the beat in psytrance sucks... I have friends who despise psytrance because the beat is just too fast and aggressive... Breakbeats can be so much more fun to dance too than the relentless psytrance beat, and they are waaay slower... So I love slower psytrance albums - there's nothing about increasing the pace of the beat that makes me want to dance - I mean, if there's no beat I don't really want to dance to it but even psychill can be great to dance to if it has some sort of beat... Faster beat does not equal better dancing... Slower psytrance is often groovier than faster psytrance, which makes dancing to it more fun for me -

Yah when I tried to download the tracks seperately it would just play them on Quicktime, but not download (?)

Do you feel goa/psy can compare with classical music?
healium replied to karan129's topic in General Psytrance
Yah if you have recommendations for more so "cosmic" or "trippy" sounding classical music please post them - I like the concept of all those instruments, just not the square and pedestrian vibes I hear... -
Do you feel goa/psy can compare with classical music?
healium replied to karan129's topic in General Psytrance
My problem with the classical music I've heard (Bach, Mozart, Tchakovsky, etc) is that it is all very "square" sounding... It is lacking in the psychedelic and "twisted" qualities that psy/goa music has... It sounds like music made by people who had never explored alternate dimensions of consciousness... Goa/psy music to me is the sound of LSD space, mushroom space, DMT space, ecstatic dancing, liberation of consciousness, bliss, etc... Classical music has never had that feeling for me at all - it sounds like the music of old-fashion romance, wine, white aristocracy, garter belts, religion, etc etc etc... Do you know what I mean? -
I think what I mean is that much goa has a certain feeling-tone/sound/vibe to it - very often with similar sound effects (dunno how to describe the sound effects but I know them when I hear them)... And the melodies seem always to be made of similar notes - generally higher pitched sounds... Radii - I didn't included Hallucinogen in that group because to me Hallucinogen is very distinct - it is a sound that I find instantly recognizable... I am not saying that artists like Pleiadians, Cosmosis, Astral Projection, Transwave, and Dimension 5 sound "the same" - I am saying that the difference between the way these artists sound and the way those artists and groups like Hallucinogen, Koxbox, Hux Flux, X-Dream, and Infected Mushroom sound is substantial... Astral Projection bears far more in common with Cosmosis, for instance, than any artist does with Koxbox or Hallucinogen... I'm also not saying that I don't think albums like IFO or Transdimensional aren't fantastic - I think they are fantastic albums, but I find them less artistically unique than albums like Dragon Tales, Classical Mushroom, or Cryptic Crunch... I am making an effort, though, to get deeper into those old school goa albums - I have been reading people's posts in this thread and will admit that I am probably not hearing as much creativity in those albums as I could be, and so am having another listen to them... Transdimensional is really stunning I have to admit, and is definitely its own journey...
-
Heh, I knew this would be an unpopular thread! I am talking about older Infected Mushroom BTW... Not the new stuff for sure... I hear what people are saying, and I do actually like this form of music - Transdimensional is a nice album, so is IFO, Cosmology etc... I do enjoy it... But the way I gauge the creativity and uniqueness of an album is how distinct it sounds, and the other albums I described sound very much more distinct and "their own thing" than Transdimensional or Cosmology or Astral Projection.. Koxbox - "Dragon Tales" is a great example - nothing sounds like that at all - while I could put AP, Cosmosis, Dimension 5 etc in a similar sounding category, "Dragon Tales" I can't really compare to anything... Same with the others I mentioned... And the newer stuff I very much feel lacks creativity... The new full-on psytrance is very conformist and lacking creativity too, I like that style even less - at least the newer copycat goatrance has some soul...
-
Ok I love psytrance and the older goa as well, but what is with the way the old school goa artists are all in the same style/sound? I have been listening to Dimension 5 - Transdimensional, Transwave - Backfire, Cosmosis - Cosmology, and Pleiadians - IFO - all these albums use the same pallet of sounds and same melodic style.. There are subtle differences yes, but overall they are in almost exactly the same melodic style, basslines, and sound pallet... IMO these albums are creatively inferior to albums like Hallucinogen - Twisted, Koxbox - Dragon Tales, Hux Flux - Cryptic Crunch, IM - The Gathering, X - Dream - Radio, and others that have a sound all there own... This lack of creativity is the case nowadays as well with the Suntrip compils - Afgin, Artifact303, Astrancer, Khetzel - there are subtle differences but none of these artists have a distinct sound such that I could hear one of their tracks and recognize it as them - I would be like "well this track could be either Artifact303 or Afgin, or maybe Astrancer"... Why would anyone bother making music that is just a creativity devoid copy of a style of music that someone else has already done? That would not be the case for Hallucinogen, Hux Flux, or Infected Mushroom - you hear a track by those artists and there's no mistaking it for anything else.. IMO artists like those are the true creative genius's of the psytrance/goatrance world...
-
I like this one - it is good but not fantastic IMO - pleasant music, but nothing remarkable... Some nice melodies etc...
-
My new vote for album of the year - brilliant and innovative work - so artistic and intelligent - If you're sick of the unimaginative psytrance and want tomething truly unique, get this album... Fantastic!! I didn't like the first Kino Oko album that much, but this one is just amazing...
-
Is this album release in stores yet?
-
And while we're at it - what happened to all the cute, underage Japanese girls in your avatar?
-
Yah that's why I question anyone giving an album a perfect score - people seem to throw 5/5 and 10/10 around like it's nothing, and so a mark that high loses its significance...
