I agree with all that - just how I feel about this album - disappointing for the lack of innovation but good music nonetheless...
  2. I can't agree with that - "You're Messed Up" is one of my favorite tracks ever - I love it every time I hear it...
  3. The 2nd track is fantastic... Production issues though - while listening on good headphones on my stereo the background static is very strong in some tracks, such that it dominates the soundstage and makes it un-enjoyable to listen - only an issue with headphones though...
  4. I dunno who the guru of space music is, but I think after this album it would have to be Distant System! - this is excellent work - pure bliss throughout! I love the slo-motion trance beat thing too - this does remind me a bit of some of Ultimae's artist's stuff, but without all the boring slow tracks in between the good ones However I wouldn't say he is copying that sound, it is fresh in its own way... The melodies on this album are excellent, and the beats phat and groovy - love it!!
  5. I'm gonna have to listen to this some more - only heard the first 2 tracks - I have found Artifakt's music very hard to digest in general - it is generally quite rude and noisy sounding - can either be bliss or a headache... Very often not harmonious... Will listen again but at home in a mellow mood, not in rush-hour traffic
  6. jst gt it 2day! (text msg style)
  7. Well I already wrote something like it in the reviews section if I remember correctly... So I was just opening a thread for casual discussion...
  8. I've had this album for a few months now and everytime I hear it I like it more - the tracks are subtle in some ways and some develop slowly, but the style and detail is superb - truly fresh and novel album - sounds like nothing else... Just sharing my joy...

I'm confused about these reviews.. Do people who find it boring and/or too much like Blumenkraft feel that its similarity to Blumenkraft is the reason for it being boring? In other words, Blumenkraft is agreed by many including myself to be a sensational and landmark album - if Blumenkraft hadn't already been released would this album be good then? Or is it inferior to Blumenkraft altogether - just boring and lame in general?
  10. Pls say which track at which part has your favorite or one of your favorite sound effects... My vote goes to Nystagmus "You're Messed Up", from "The Immaculate Perception" album - about halfway through these drill sounds come in - the drills that mechanics use to screw on car wheels and such - fuckin nutter!!
  11. Haha, that is funny - why Rick Astley and that particular video though? (I happen to really like that song BTW)
  12. Actually, UTFSE idea is bullshit in this case - new people come to psynews all the time so the responses to this "best chillout" thread may be totally different than the ones that Buzzman would find by UingTFSE... For instance, I can recommend highly Khooman "A Flexible Liquid" whereas a couple weeks ago I'd never heard of it... It's always people with like, a gajillion posts too that get grumpy about others posting common or oft repeated topics...
  13. I love psytrance and some other music but if I listen to it too frequently I don't enjoy it near as much... I love silence as well - ever since I got into meditation I really appreciate the space and lushness of silence - so when I'm driving in my car very often I have no music or anything - but sometimes I rock out in a big way with the psytrance and psychill... I do quite a bit of both - silence and music.. Never the radio though... Listening to music too much makes me feel un-grounded, a bit scattered and uneasy... Psytrance in particular can grate on my nerves if I play it too much, or play it when I'm not really wanting to hear it...
  14. Well, fair enough, I haven't heard that album so maybe I'll include it in my next order - the samples I heard when it came out though sounded very boring...
  15. You know what is funny though - I actually quite like most all Ultimae music - just listened to the Hol Baumann album today and really liked it (track 4 is fantastic!) - I liked the recent Asura and CBL albums too... The Fahrenheit series is one of my favorite compil sets as well... However, despite that I very much like most all music released on Ultimae, I'm afraid I'll have to look elsewhere for really fresh, innovative, and groundbreaking releases...
  16. Wow what a surprise, the cover art is just like all the other Ultimae cover art!! What were the chances of that?! I wonder if the music will be in the same tone and style as all the other Ultimae music also???
  17. Goa - Pleiadians - "Alcyone" Psytrance - Hux Flux - "Degauss"
  18. Funny you recommend that - I was just listening to samples of it online last night and loved it - It will be in my next order!
  19. First off - I don't mean that I don't like ethnochill stuff - I love Shpongle, Ott, Gaudi, Slackbabba (killer album BTW!) - but I think there is a conformist trend going on here and it would be nice to see an artist create something really fresh and new sounding... Abakus "That Much Closer to the Sun" is very good I have to say, and sounds unique compared to many other albums - I forgot to add that one to the exceptional non-ethnic chill albums in my first post... I have FSOL - Lifeforms - I like it but don't find it overly psychedelic or transdimensional sounding - mainstream electronica listeners find it digestable whereas I think the super psychedelic stuff they would be more challenged by... I have the other ones too, mostly - don't have the Monolake album though, will have to check it... All the one's listed are pretty "straight" sounding to me - in other words, they don't have the super zany sound effects and such going... It's all about the "sound palette".... I think this is what I mean by "psychedelic" in this case - if any of you have heard Hux Flux "Cryptic Crunch" or X-Dream "Radio" you know they use a variety of extremely psychedelic, synthetic, wicked sounds in their fx and melodies... I don't hear any downtempo that has sound palettes like these albums - some interesting trippy sounds sure, but not the super trippy tech'd out sound the above albums bring...
  20. Right on, thanks for the replies! I'm looking for *very* psychedelic music here - I like Aes Dana, CBL, Asura, Solar Fields etc - but they aren't really that psychedelic IMO - they lack the "weirdness" that much of the best psytrance has - it's psychedelic, but only moderately so... Hux Flux "Cryptic Crunch" and Koxbox "Dragon Tales" are two of the most "psychedelic" psytrance albums I've heard - I'm looking for downtempo music that is equally as weird and wonderful as these albums.. Chilling Matenda is good too, but not nearly that psychedelic as the above albums - that one and the Ultimae music is more the "classy" and "moderately trippy" type stuff I would say... The Nystagmus side project "Anahata" sounded fully "ethno psychill" to me from the samples... The first two Bluetech albums were very good IMO, among my favorites - but not that deeply psychedelic either IMO...
  21. If I want the full experience I like to relax with my Sennheiser headphones on, and I enjoy very much taking a small toke of DMT at the beginning of each track - so each track unfolds along with a different manifestation of a low-level DMT space, and I can enter quite deep into the music - the music takes on an expanded dimension... Most any entheogen will do, but my schedule is hectic these days and DMT fits the bill for this application due to short duration and exceptional effects on music... I only do this occasionally - preferably the first time I hear an album - after that I usually listen to them in my car or on the stereo when I'm doing housework or some such... I usually only listen to them on headphones that first time... Planning another purchase here soon actually For me great albums usually remain great, and even get better - I'm seriously blown away by the quality of the older albums - every time I listen to Koxbox "Dragon Tales" I'm just amazed - same with Sandman "Psycho Toones", X-Dream "Radio", Hux FLux "Cryptic Crunch", old IM, and a few others - albums like that are timeless, IMO... Pleiadians "IFO" sounds a bit dated to me but not the other great ones...
  22. Ok, chanting and nature sounds etc etc seem to dominate psychill nowadays - since Shpongle came out they've all been like this.. An exception was Bluetech and Electrypnose albums... WHy aren't more producers creating pure psychedelic downtempo electronica without all the ethno inlfuences? Like, much killer psytrance doesn't have that style, why can't producers create something more like proper psychedelic trance but in a downtempo format? Why all the following with the nature sounds and ethno and shanti/hippy vibe - why not a wicked synthetic electronica based universe of sound composition instead? For instance, I would LOVE to hear a psytrance style like Hux Flux or Nystagmus in a chill album.... Or like the way Sensient does music, but in a chill album - does this make any sense?

Funny how people's tastes are... If I had to choose only one psychedelic downtempo album to keep in my collection, well, I wouldn't want to have to make that choice, but if I did, I'd choose "Blumenkraft"... Would be my favorite ever if I had to pick one... "Hallucinogen in Dub" is fantastic too though, for sure... Have yet to hear this "Skylon" though - when will saikosounds or psyshop carry it? I want to order a couple other discs too and don't want to pay 2X for shipping costs...
