Tegma – 002: Avant.Garde High-res cover: front + back Artist: Tegma (Sweden) Title: 002: Avant.Garde Format: CD (jewel case) Label: Candyflip (Greece) Cat. #: CFR CD14 Distribution: Arabesque Date: March 2005 Track listing: 01. 08’37” Eternal Sleep 02. 07’04” Modern Movement 03. 08’44” Myth of an Angel 04. 07’35” Thunder-Blade 05. 08’49” X-Instanz 06. 07’39” Trapped in a Hypercube 07. 07’16” Consciousness 08. 07’36” Clock next Door 09. 09’38” Irrational Impulses .m3u-playlist: http://tinyurl.com/5bvu2 (all tracks) Review: Crossbred trance… Omar Chelly and Jason Orfanidis from Malmø, Sweden are better known as the progressive trance act Tegma… They’ve also released music as Homer & Lazon, but Tegma is their main project… As opposed to most people I never really got into their debut album Encoded/Decoded released in 2002 on Digital Structures… It was an ok album, but it never really grabbed me – but on the plus-side, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed some of their compilation tracks… This is their second album, released on visionary Greek label Candyflip and the reviews so far have been good… Let’s find out what the fuzz is all about… Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: Eternal Sleep [136 BPM] This first track is unusual in the way it was created – as the guys started with the transposing melody and the pads – instead of the drum/percussion session they usually start with… This is a very groovy track – a hybrid between phat progressive deepness and uplifting morning bliss… Yummy! Kinda organic and absolutely soaked in deeply funky rhythm sections… The low BPM count adds to the overall groove… Extremely tasty track! #02: Modern Movement [138 BPM] “Das hochste Gluck auf Erden kommt Sehr oft nur durch Einsamkeit in das Herz” This track starts out with more undecipherable French mutterings before we’re off to Electroland… And later on we get the familiar German Schiller quote “silence is the greatest joy on earth… it often comes into the heart due only to loneliness“… This track is also a hybrid track… This time it’s an electro/proggy/morning hybrid – and again the combo really works wonders… Could easily be a cross between the experimental sides of 12 Moons and Atmos… Sweet track indeed! #03: Myth of an Angel [140 BPM] "Did you ever notice how in the bible whenever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence praising your God, but one wing always dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?" This was put together by an old loop and parts of an even older track – and damn, I’m glad they did that! This is another hybrid track between proggy and morning territory… The bassline is ultra-smooth and cynical, and the flaring acid-melodies just tear you apart… The female vocals are a bit over the top, but they do not destroy the track at all… The last four minutes are pure melodic mayhem… Brilliant! #04: Thunder-Blade [140 BPM] “You see, we’re on a mission from God!” Thunder Blade Blues Brothers? This is yet another hybrid track, and this time it’s some kind of electro/full-on combo with housy hints… The melodies are running thick here, but somehow they don’t really scratch my itch the way the previous three tracks did… Good, but not awesome! #05: X-Instanz [142 BPM] “Life exists…”Ahh, this is more like it… After a short, subtle intro we’re treated to an ultra-smooth bassline soaked in pointy, digital bleeps and blobs… It sounds very mechanical and kinda cold – but in a damn good way… I really like the drive here, and the rippling psychedelia mixes perfectly with the proggy-slash-melodic undertones… A true Tegma hybrid! Great use of choir and stereo FX too… Nice track! #06: Trapped in a Hypercube [140 BPM] Auch – imagine being trapped inside a hypercube… Or any kinda cube for that matter! The intro is raw and kinda brutal – and the bassline is kicking harder than the previous tracks… Sounds like teKkno at first, but soon the track transcends into a more subtle, bouncing night-stormer - reminiscent of the older Tegma style… And this is also supported by the fact this track was produced back in 2003… I like the spooky break and the climax that comes after it… Very danceable! Darkish cyber-trance drenched in warm, fuzzy psychedelia… Bounce motherfuckers! Sweet track! #07: Consciousness [142 BPM] “The practice of morality, which means guarding your three doors of body, speech, and mind, equips you with mindfulness and conscientiousness. The mind interferes. It is possible and necessary to master it!” We stay in the same path for the next track that has an even meaner bassline… Definitely a night track with a fast, repetitive bassline and a hectic feel to it… Alongside the minimal percussion side, there’s subtle use of acid farts and electronic burps – and there’s even a break with synth-action and a beautiful climax after it… Another very sweet track! #08: Clock next Door [138 BPM] "Un escalier de fer...un couloir étroit et obscur...au fond de ce couloir une porte entrouverte d'où nous parviennent les accords d'une musique, qui en ce lieu parait irréelle!" Right, my French is very rusty, but the dude in the intro talks about going up an iron staircase – down an obscure and narrow corridor – finding a half-opened door from which music emerges! … Something along those lines at least… This is progressive trance with rich psychedelic influences... The overall mood is dark and eerie, and you constantly feel like looking over your shoulder… Something haunts you? The bridge has the most joyous, uplifting melodies that strike a remarkable contrast to the darkish mood – beautifully embodying Tegma’s trademark hybrid sound! Nice track! #09: Irrational Impulses [138 BPM] If it weren’t for the BPM count printed on the cover the intro would leave you thinking this was a chilled track to finish things off – but the apparent ethno-ambient intro soon transforms into a phat proggy choon… With freq’esque reverb-FX and an overall groovy atmosphere... Again Tegma uses all kinds of elements and mixes genres - creating a very diverse, broad track… Great way to finish the album… Hats off to Candyflip for being such a visionary label with such a diverse spectre of styles on their release schedule… Diversity rules! This is a great album – honestly I like it much better than their first album, but after this positive surprise I might have to dust of the old one again… I am really impressed with Tegma’s very unique style – they successfully manage to create hybrid tracks, using the best elements from many different styles – in particular progressive trance, house and melodic full-on… But they also incorporate elements from more techy realms into their distinct tunes… Very well done guys – this is one hell of an album! The cover art is cool too (despite the missing slipcase) and the booklet is full of interesting stuff about Tegma and the creation of each track… I really like when labels go that extra mile and include a useful booklet… Sweet! All in all, this album is brilliant – and definitely deserves a purchase by any fan of diverse electronic music… Enjoy! DeathPosture replied to Dj-Emotion's topic in General Psytrance
Very cool story Shaman... They are indeed very nice people... I've seen them live twice - last time was in 2000 and it was pretty fucking good... They played old-school the entire night... I also had the chance to meet the guys backstage and they were very friendly indeed... Unfortunately I don't really dig on their new stuff... DP -
No, I'm pretty sure he's talking about this!

V/A – Digital Performers Artist: Various Title: Digital Performers Format: CD (jewel case) Label: Exposure Productions (Greece) Cat. #: EXPOCD 002 Distribution: ZMA label group Date: January 2005 Track listing: 01. 07’55” Altöm – All Of That 02. 07’54” Orion – Speaker Speaker 03. 08’21” Wizzy Noise – Opus Drive 04. 07’31” Logic Bomb - Deuchland 05. 07’51” Dino Psaras vs. Deedrah - Hellraiser 06. 07’20” Astrix - Oranda 07. 09’18” Silicon Sound feat. Jaïa - Passengers 08. 06’33” Alien Project – Alien Technology 09. 08’03” Space Cat – H2O 10. 06’22” Synthetic – Mind Splinter Review: Digital performance... The first release from Greek label Exposure Productions - the compilation All Systems Go - was a positive surprise for me when it was released last year. Musically there were some very nice tracks on it, and I was really impressed with the amount of big, well-established names that Detox had convinced to appear on his compilation. Back then he promised another impressive list of big names to appear on this second release – and with the exception of Astral Projection he has kept his promise… Again the tracklist is very impressive, and with mastering by Space Cat I am pretty sure there is some nice stuff to be found here… Let’s find out… Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: Altöm - All Of That [140BPM] “Strange word like 'psychedelic,' you know - drugs, the whole bit, you know-- 'freak-out music' and all of that” First up is Alexis Cornet & Thomas Dubreuil from France with a very melodic piece, similar in style to their two albums on Neurobiotic Records… This is light and fluffy morning trance… Well-polished and with the old-school Paul McCartney quote as a funny ice-breaker… The melodies run deep here, and I’m inclined to sound the cheddar-alarm at times, but luckily Altöm’s groovy production prevents me from that… Decent track! #02: Orion - Speaker Speaker [145BPM] Next up is old timer Jean Borelli from Denmark kicking up some dust… I’m no full-on buff, but this is the kind of full-on I like the best – with driving, building tension… And with enough digital farts, electronic burps and psychedelia to keep me interested… The break-down is good and I’m sure it’ll work wonders on the dance-floor… Ok track! #03: Wizzy Noise - Opus Drive [142BPM] Micky & Uriel from Greece have also been digital performers on the scene for quite a while, and naturally they appear on this compilation with a very sweet track indeed… The plot thickens now and this track has the effervescent sweet ZMA-flavour… Groovy, building, funky night-time trance… The heavily vocoded voice-samples are übercool and adds to the overall phat electro-vibe this track has… Fucking awesome track! #04: Logic Bomb - Deuchland [145BPM] “Coloured particles. Colours running down like waterfalls..” Watch Detox pull out another ace… Jonas & Johan a.k.a. Logic Bomb are from Ørebro, Sweden and I consider them a vital part of the evolution of psychedelic trance during the last five years with their unmistakeable style… This is just what you’d expect – highly complex, rich, multilayered psychedelic trance – with swedisch spelling errors!?… Loads of twisted FX on top a stomping bassline… The break with the Shponglesque voice-sample is just what the doctor ordered! Brilliant track! #05: Dino Psaras vs Deedrah - Hellraiser [145BPM] And I’ll be damned if Detox doesn’t pull out another couple of old-schoolers from his psychedelic tophat… This time it’s Ibiza-freaks Dino & Dado… Dino Psaras has been in the game for at least ten years – and the same is true for Frederic Holyszewski… To be honest, I haven’t been particularly impressed with most of the stuff these guys have released individually lately… Too formulated for my taste... But it’s like something wonderful happens when they combine their strengths… This track is actually pretty good… Its full-on but with a distinct slightly darker edge… Yeah, this is guaranteed to raise hell on the trancefloors this summer… Nice track! #06: Astrix - Oranda [142BPM] Avi Shmailov’s neo full-on is among the top exports of Israel – his popularity is huge and so is the crossover appeal into cheesier territory… Personally I kinda enjoyed the debut album Eye To Eye but since then I’ve sought more challenging music to satisfy my needs… So this is my first encounter with the Astrix sound for a while – and I gotta hand it to the guy – he’s no stranger to the well-tested full-on formula… This is 100% fast-paced, joyous, full-on flavoured bubble-gum trance… Highly melodic and energetic – and quite catchy despite the skin-deep hollowness… Decent track! #07: Silicon Sound feat. Jaïa - Passengers [142BPM] Ahh… I thoroughly enjoyed the Silicon Sound (Johannes Reigner) track on the last Exposure compilation All Systems Go… And now he’s working with another French full-on master – Jaïa (Yannis Kamarinos)... Both are among my fav’e French artists, so my expectations for this track are high… Sadly they are not really met until halfway too the track… The first half is a little too fluffy, but luckily the direction changes into more deep morning trance for the second half of the track… Pretty good track... #08: Alien Project - Alien Technology [145BPM] Up next is another neo full-on advocate – Mr. Ari Linker who’s been a steady TIP.World regular for the last couple of years… As with his track on All Systems Go, I’m not particularly impressed… Well, it’s well-produced and immensely happy – and I’m sure this suit the neo-crossover-glowstick-waving crowd, but I just can’t to get fully into it… It’s mainstream, light, fluffy full-on… Like a lollipop really – it’s good for the first couple of minutes, but then the flavour starts to annoy you… Full-on anno 2005! Lots of people like it – I don’t! #09: Space Cat - H2O [145BPM] Avi Algranati a.k.a. Space Cat from Israel used to be awesome, but to a nostalgic trancer like myself I feel like he’s lost some of his golden touch as over the years… But it’s not all bad… At least this isn’t overly formulated neo full-on as the last three tracks here were… This is very well produced experimental full-on with the distinct Space Cat sound... Guitars usually piss me off, but in this track I can cope – and the odd-ball climax part is pretty cool… Decent track! #10: Synthetic - Mind Splinter [140BPM] The last track is also by Frederic Holyszewski, this time under his darker Synthetic moniker… Yes, much better now… Razor-sharp cuts and murky, introvert pads helps add to the darker atmosphere put forth by Dado here… The techy electro-bits are very well-fitting! Oh yes, how refreshing it is to hear some good, anti-cheesy night-trance from this guy… Good job putting this track at the end of this compilation… Sweet! Right, let’s settle the score… Unfortunately there are fillers on this album – as you can tell I’m not a big fan of neo full-on, but even I can appreciate the value of most of the tracks here… There are three very good tracks and a couple of pretty good tracks here… The rest is decent, but should definitely please fans of modern full-on… Luckily tastes differ and diversity rules! So to conclude: Again Detox manages to release a full-on compilation filled with above average quality music… Well done! Again I’m looking forward to the next compilation… The anti-cheddar crowd might want to listen before purchase, but the general dancefloor posse will love with compilation endlessly… Enjoy! V/A – Fahrenheit Project Part Five Artist: Various Title: Fahrenheit Project Part Five Format: CD (digipack) Label: Ultimae (France) Cat. #: INRE 015 Distribution: Ultimae.com/network Date: February 2005 Track listing: 01. 08’00” Jaïa - Alone 02. 05’43” Solar Fields – Water Silence 03. 07’47” Aural Planet – Sunfruits Avenue 04. 07’06” Aes Dana - Purple 05. 05’49” H.U.V.A. Network – Processing Lights (Fairy Tales Live Version) 06. 07’04” Cell – Blue Embers 07. 06’43” Great Leap Forward – In Name of the Super Natural 08. 06’23” Carbon Based Lifeforms – T-Rex Echoes 09. 05’18” Sync 24 – Adrift In Time (Drumatix Edit) 10. 05’14” Hol Baumann – Final 11. 07’14” Sync 24 – Wake (Epilouge Edit) Review: From psychedelic downtempo to eclectic ambient – in eleven easy steps! Ultimae Records – the world’s leading chill label - is out with their 15th release… This time it’s the 5th chapter in the Fahrenheit Project series… The CD is compiled by Ultimae resident DJ Tajmahal who’s been in the game for longer than anyone can remember, so chances are he knows what he’s doing… The mastering has been left to the experienced Ultimae regular Huby Sea and the tracklist looks absolutely smashing… Ultimae plays their strongest cards – so here’s hoping for a breathtaking experience… Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: Jaïa - Alone The journey begins in France… Jaïa (Jean Michel Blanchet & Yannis Kamarinas) released their album debut album Blue Energy back in 1998 and has made some of the most acclaimed trance… Also they have an upcoming album on Digital Structures – I can’t wait for that one! This is not your usual intro to an ambient album… I mean, it’s still ambient, but Jaïa’s goatrance roots do not fail them… After the initial subtle intro, the track takes a trancey turn... Ahh yes, my speakers really like the bass here… Wonderful psychedelic downbeat! #02: Solar Fields – Water Silence Tajmahal makes sure we drift seamlessly into the next track… Solar Fields is Magnus Birgersson from Sweden – another Ultimae regular who has 2½ albums released already (he’s one half of H.U.V.A. Network with one album released)... This is a nice track indeed – tribal percussion, electro bits & pieces and soft, floating, organic pads… And subtle vocals by Elina Eriksson… Again it’s a pretty fast downtempo trance track… Wikkid! #03: Aural Planet – Sunfruits Avenue Radoslaw Kochman from Poland is part of the Aural Planet collective, and he has made this track in co-operation with Vincent from Ultimae… Someone once referred to Aural Planet as ‘chilled psychedelic trance with an experimental kick’ and that’s pretty fitting for this track… head-bop friendly with just the right combination of kick, synth and percussion… Tasty! #04: Aes Dana – Purple Ahh, Aes Dana… Ultimae execVincent Villuis has yet to dissapoint me... He’s released 3 albums as Aes Dana, 2 as a member of Asura and 1 as a member of H.U.V.A. Network – and they all rule! We maintain the danceable downbeat groove here, and this is a very hypnotizing track with a sweet, sweet rolling bassline and an overall funky groove with Eastern influences… Stunning track! #05: H.U.V.A. Network – Processing Lights (Fairy Tales Live Version) Another strong Ultimae selling point is the combined forces of Magnus Birgersson & Vincent Villuis… The original version of this track from the album Distances was only 3’30 minutes long and this the live version performed by Vince at the Fairy Tales Party @ The Mass (London) in November 2004… This is a longer chilled mix with breakz and long organic pads… Not bad! #06: Cell – Blue Embers Next up is Alexandre Scheffer from France… He’s got his debut album coming out in 2005, he’s an Ultimae regular and his tracks are also beginning to pop up on harder labels such as Peak Records and Ketuh Records… This is a more chilled track, with less emphasis on bass than the first half of this CD… We’re somewhere in border territory between downtempo trance and esoteric ambient… Very floating and nice! #07: Great Leap Forward – In Name of the Super Natural “You must be very tired after your long journey? … No, not particularly… I trust you’re not in need of anything? No, thank you. Well then I bid you peace!” I own the debut CLF album Cinkofa by aussie Marius Katz but to be honest it didn’t really do much for me, and it’s collecting dust now… But maybe that’s about to change ‘cause this is a very nice track… Deep, dubby, floating and with a very dreamy atmosphere… This is perfect chill-out! #08: Carbon Based Lifeforms – T-Rex Echoes CBL is Daniel Ringström from Sweden – another Ultimae regular, though I’m not very familiar with his work… We’re shifting into more melancholy ambient now, with long organic pads and natural soundscapes laid on top a well-polished, slow, blunt beat… Oh yes, we’re getting ready to drift into dreamland… ;o) #09: Sync 24 – Adrift In Time (Drumatix Edit) Sync 24 is Daniel Ringström from CBL again, and on this track he kinda continues where he left off on the previous track… It’s very organic and very natural – but with a more distinct electronic atmosphere this time… Stiff, harsh electro-elements blended nicely with floating ambient… Experimental fusion downbeat… Interesting! #10: Hol Baumann – Final Hol Baumann from France is yet another regular and has appeared on all but one Fahrenheit Project compilations… He brings us another fusion downbeat track with both orchestral elements, dub, guitars and distinct ethnic influences… There’s a very nice atmosphere here, and it kinda reminds me of Kaya Project here and there… Nice! #11: Sync 24 – Wake (Epilouge Edit) “As I wake up, I find myself floating…” The last track is by Sync 24 again, and now we’re reeeeeally chilling out… This is pure ambient… Long harmonic, beatless pads and soothing, relaxing soundscapes… Simply beautiful, and I could not have wished for a better way to end this magical journey… Dope! I’ve always been a big fan of the Ultimae releases – and I was particularly impressed with the last couple: H.U.V.A. Network’s Distances and Aes Dana’s Memomy Shell and I really hate to sound like a broken record, but this is another instant classic from the French chill-masters… A must-have! The subtle mixing by Tajmahal is flawless, and in his selection of tracks he takes the listener on an adventurous journey from psychedelic downbeat to deep, dreamy ambient… As always with Ultimae the packaging is über-cool and correlates perfectly with the music… Nuff said – this compilation is essential for any fan of intelligent downbeat music! Electrypnose – Brain Stretching Artist: Electrypnose (Switzerland) Title: Brain Stretching Format: Hi-quality MP3, FLAC or CD-R Label: http://www.ResonantEarth.com (Sweden) Cat. #: RES002 Distribution: Internet Date: February 2005 Track listing: 01. 08’26” Leo Zitrone 02. 07’23” Arcangemy 03. 08’02” Bombaxis 04. 07’13” Alcoolemie 05. 08’29” Le Druide 06. 07’52” Deity 07. 07’36” Au Pays Des Lutins Malins 08. 08’15” The Key Of Life 09. 08’49” Fil De Légèreté Review: Welcome to the future! Resonant Earth is a 100% internet based record label from the deep forests of Sweden… The label boss is Leo Bergman (a.k.a. Spindrift and one half of Steptime) and he’s on a trance-mission to ‘create an outlet for music that is honest and fair for artists as well as fans’… He was fed up with labels accusing downloading fans of ripping off artists, when it is in fact artists ripping off artists… So he took the logical step, cut out the middle men and created http://www.ResonantEarth.com – a website that supports high-quality legal downloads of Resonant Earth’s releases… You can compile your own compilations there or you can order hardcopy CDs via snail mail… It’s total freedom really! Cool! The first release was the compilation Mythical Vortex and the second release is the debut album by Swiss artist Electrypnose (Vince Le Barde) who’s had three tracks released on Peak Records… The tracks I’ve heard from him have all had a distinct eerie charm to them, so I hope the album is in the same style… Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: Leo Zitrone Leo the Lemon? Is this a Bergman nickname I didn’t know about? This a truly hypnotic track… Deeply psychedelic and packed with melodies… The intro is eerie and spooky, but soon the track evolves into a melodic night piece… Check the bell action in the middle part – a Switzerland trademark I guess… Eerie, haunting, hectic… The soundscapes are huge here – tons of effects help create a massive wall of sound guaranteed to tear any dancefloor apart! Sweet track! #02: Arcangemy Eerie, spooky Electrynose-trademark intro… Reminds me of some of the sicker Schlabbaduerst demented pixie forest trance – with definite hints of sauna, koala and vodka-induced trance… The bassline is deep and repetitive and Vince tweaks his buttons like a madman… I dig the razor-sharp ‘cutting-FX’ in the second part of the track and the break is particularly sweet… Nice! #03: Bombaxis Orchestral Misted Muppet/Infected intro with an analogue bassline… Very old-school at first, but soon the track develops into a raging stormer with computerized voices, long organic pads and a phat electro-groove… Spooky Halloween trance! #04: Alcoolemie Another stormy intro – I’d go as far as to claim you can actually hear that this was produced in Switzerland… There’s that snow-covered mountain feel to it… The track itself is a bit more hectic, with pointy FX and tons of layers… Very dark, yet uplifting in its entire psychedelic glory… The build-up/climax part kicks some serious 303-ass… Sweet! #05: Le Druide Trippy chanting monks/aum intro… Bassline and percussion are added before the general groove kicks in… The first three minutes doesn’t really stand out, but as it is often the case things really pick up in the second part of the track… Suddenly mad, twirling melodies are unleashed and the acid is running thick… Aciiiiiiiiiid! #06: Deity “This is what I want… ” Yeah, me too! …Static hisses and radio knob adjustment and a deep bassline make out the introduction to this track… Slowly more FX are added and after a couple of minutes the track is a full-blown tweaking party choon… Again Vince shows how good he is at using breaks to intensify the listening experience and leave the listener eagerly awaiting more… Once more it’s acid galore, and I’m still a sucker for that… Stellar track! #07: Au Pays Des Lutins Malins Right, my French vocabulary is limited to ‘crossiant’ so I had no idea what the title meant… Babelfish suggested ‘With The Country Of The Malignant Imps’ so I’m guessing it means something along the lines of ‘From the country of the magnificent peaks’ – makes sense, and as I described above I really do believe you can tell this music was made in a mountainous country… But hey, let’s talk about the music… After a long chilled intro, we’re exposed to another mean Electrypnose trademark bassline… A dark and repetitive track – with hints of stale, demented psycho FX… Watch out for the hypnotizing, naïve melody that’ll grab your attention whilst the psychedelia takes control of the rest of your senses… Evil track! #08: The Key Of Life "Take this empty glass. Here it is... peaceful... serene...boring! But if it is... destroyed... Look at all these little things, so busy now! Notice how each of them is useful! What a lovely ballet ensues.. so full of form and colour. Now think about all those people that created them: technicians, engineers, hundreds of people who will be able to feed their children tonight so those children can grow-up big and strong and have little teeny-weeny children of their own and so on and so forth... thus adding to the great chain... of life!" Vince kicks things of with a lengthy movie sample and soon after the track is drenched in a bouncy, almost happy bassline surrounded by a bunch of sharp, metallic FX… This is layered, wobbly and twisted music to be played in the twilight zone… The outro has some cool movie-samples too… Spooky dusk trance! #09: Fil De Légèreté Babelfish says ‘wire of lightness’ so I’m guessing ‘ray of light’ as it’s the last track of the album and the sun has set after a long, dark night… As legend prescribes this is the downbeat, experimental last track to finish of the album… This is nice floating downbeat… Hints of dub and electro… Very mellow – and a striking contrast to the rest of the album… A nice way to return to reality… ;o) Right, so the first half of the album is definitely the one that suits my taste the best… The last three tracks are not bad at all – the first six are just better… I’m a hard-copy fetishist so I have the CD-R version of this album, but anyone can pick out the tracks they like and just pay for those… Nice concept indeed! I was pleasantly surprised by this album, and I really like the whole concept of ResonantEarth.com… Hats of to Vince for the sweet tunes and to Leo for a visionary outlook on releasing psytrance to the masses… The third release is already ready, waiting to be downloaded… ;o) Recommended to fans of the darker realms of psytrance with a distinct Swiss edge… Enjoy! Yes it fucking rocks... The climax @ 8'03 sends shivers down my spine everytime I listen to it... My mate almost crashed his car when I played it on his €2500 ICE system... DP

Megalopsy – The Abstract Machine High res: front + back Artist: Megalopsy (Argentina) Title: The Abstract Machine Format: CD (jewel case) Label: Trishula Records (Germany) Cat. #: TRISHCD 02CD Distribution: Arabesque Date: 14 February 2005 Track listing: 01. 02’03” Intro (Chaos) 02. 07’32” Obscure Warlock 03. 08’24” Fractal Circus 04. 08’48” Goblin Grins 05. 09’27” Juggling Spheres 06. 08’42” Pachamama 07. 07’29” Monkey Supernova 08. 08’10” Space Cadet 09. 08’27” Devenir-Cosmos 10. 04’14” Outro (Cosmos) Review: Extraordinario Psytranco muy oscuro de la Argentina! Dark psytrance from Argentina… yeah, that’s right Argentina! Megalopsy has the members Alejandro Santander, Matias Benamo and Nicolas Dibernardo and this is their debut album. Newly established German dark psytrance label Trishula Records is out with their second CD after the very nice compilation Ignis Fatuus released in December 2004…. I really liked that comp and the Megalopsy track ‘Zacatlocozipitl’ was a yummy taster of their deep, dark and pounding style… The album has a cool theme, as it’s divided into four chapters – taking us from chaos to cosmos in four easy steps… Right, I’m ready for a dose of gaucho trance… Let’s check it out! Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: Intro (Chaos) “Welcome to the abstract machine. Our dark network of twisted and magic nodes. Darkness as a form of energy twisting between all things and unpredictable force of thousands of strange beings. This is our multiple dimensional cosmos spiralling from chaos to complexity. This is our dark platform. Drawing its lines in the endless void. Pulling its energy out of the abyss and multiplying it. Come one and come all and meet the creatures who live within the elements that will form the never-ending combinations of this warped world (…) Once you’re in, you are in. There are no doors around here. Welcome to the abstract machine.” The intro sets the mood instantly… You’re not gonna expect feather-light cheddar-trance after this… This is daaaaaaaark! Static, freaky noises and a naïve melody laid on top a mean-ass dubby beat… Could easily be the soundtrack to The Ring 3… Spooky, but nice… #02: Obscure Warlock (Chapter I: Chaos) This track starts with a very Matrixesque theme that soon evolves into the meanest bassline I’ve heard since the Kemic-Al album Twisted Parameters… Oh yes, this is rich tech-trance with obvious hints to the crude Boshke sound… Sick, repulsive, mean ultra-dark psytrance… I dig the chaotic feel and the constant evolving – the acid runs thick here, and damn that demented melody @ 6’00 will trip you out! Be careful! Highly psychedelic and extremely dark… Sweet! #03: Fractal Circus (Chapter I: Chaos) We drift seamlessly into the next track which is a little less chaotic – the bpm has decreased, and we’re in tech/dark night-trance border territory now… This has a very wobbly, bouncing quality to it… Very organic and very industrial at the same time… It’s a WTF?-track… You can’t really figure it out, and you have no idea where it’s going next… I like little surprises like that, but as a whole the first part of the track doesn’t do a great deal for me… The second part is much better, and the lengthy transition to the next track has a nice old-school touch to it… Decent track! #04: Goblin Grins (Chapter II: Chaos Fade Out) 20 seconds into the 2nd chapter, and Megalopsy has already graced our ears with 30 different twisted FX… Oh yes, this is a very hectic track – in fact even more chaotic than the chaos tracks before it… Chaotic in the typical Finnish/Australian sense – this could’ve easily been on a Freakdance Records release… I’m not sure whether to like it, or to be repulsed by it… It definitely has its moments – both cool and annoying… Scores high on the weird-o-meter! Again the transition into the next track is notably cool, and damn I like that concept of tying the tracks together like that… Sweet indeed! #05: Juggling Spheres (Chapter II: Chaos Fade Out) “Oh I’m sorry, did I break your concentration?” This is another very dark, industrial-sounding night choon – with a distinct teKK_QUality to it… Reminds me of the track ‘Zacatlocozipitl’ of the Ignis Fatuus compilation… Very teKknoish, but still übercool… The energy put forward here is simply impressive… And Jules has never sounded better! The last three minutes have a totally different, yet cohesive sound – track transitions rule! #06: Pachamama (Chapter III: Cosmos Fade In) Enter the cosmos… A new chapter and a new sound… The sound is sharper now – it’s time to zip up and pay attention! This is very fast and more focussed – with a blunt, repetitive bassline… The combination of a really fast pounding beat and hints of melodies is unorthodox, and this track works more like a long transition into the next and you know which way it’s going when the monkey-madness starts… Decent track! #07: Monkey Supernova (Chapter III: Cosmos Fade In) The monkey track! After the transition, we’re soon exposed to a phat, twisted bassline… Yes, we’re back on track! This is what I love about this style – the rich, deeply twisted bassline… Hundreds of psychedelic effect and one phat acid-line after the other… Constant changes in pace and direction, but never loosing the overall focus of sheer nocturnal psychedelic bliss… Fucking awesome track! #08: Space Cadet (Chapter IV: Cosmos) After another very cool what-the-hell-is-wrong-with-my-speakers transition, we enter the last chapter of this CD… So get ready to hurtle through the cosmos! This track has a weird laid-back, yet totally pumping quality to it… Hard to describe really… Funky dark psytrance perhaps!? I never thought I should use ‘funky’ and ‘dark’ to describe the same track, but that’s one of the very cool things about this album… For the most part it’s very unprecedented stuff – and I always embrace new ideas… So this might not be the best track here, but it’s definitely something out of the ordinary… Cool! #09: Devenir-Cosmos (Chapter IV: Cosmos) My Spanish may be incredibly rusty, but as far as I know ‘devinir’ translates into ‘to happen’… So yeah, we must be well into the cosmos now… And the cosmos is indeed haunting… This track will leave you hanging on the edge of your seat… It’s a big, brutal powerhouse of demented, horrific, deeply psychedelic night-trance… Another highly original tune – this doesn’t sound like anything I’ve ever heard before… The closest I can think of is Overlap on the 6th Sense album – but even that is far from how this sounds… Again a magically spooky transition… You’ve been warned – this *will* mess with your mind! #10: Outro (Cosmos) Damn, if the transition didn’t totally freak you out I dunno what will… This outro is a very experimental piece of music… Kinda dubby with breakz and razorsharp frosty cuts… Electro-sauna-dub-skate-punk-fusion! Weird, but fitting to the album… A truly worthy ending to a very unique album in our scene! Diversity rules! Woow – it’s been a while since an album have left such an impression with me… It’s not the best album I’ve heard this year, but it’s just so fucking different from what we’re used to hearing… I like music that challenges me – forces me to pay extra attention and heighten my perception… And in that sense, this album is a masterpiece… Musically it’s just good! And as a DJ tool it’s worthless… There is no compromise here – either play the whole album, or don’t play it at all! The whole concept of chapters and long transitions between tracks is simply cool and I wish more artists outside the chill-spectre would do that… It makes for a very interesting listening experience – and justifies listening to an entire album from start to finish despite the weaker tracks…. And there are plenty of highlights here to justify that anyway… Also, let me mention the very cool conceptual art in the cover that correlates perfectly with the music… Well done Trishula! This is not a psytrance album as we’re used to… This is an album that uses dark psytrance as a skeleton for an extended musical journey – and it really succeeds in that. Any fan of experimental electronic music should check out this album – I guarantee you an extraordinary ride! Enjoy! Favourites: This album should be listened to as a whole… But 2, 4, 5 and 7(!) are stand-outs for me.
