V/A – Psychedelically Yours 3 Artist: Various Title: Psychedelically Yours 3 Format: CD (digipack) Label: Parvati Records (Denmark) Cat. #: PRVCD08 Distribution: Wirikuta Date: February 2005 Track listing: 01. 07’14” Jahbo - Audiodidakt 02. 07’52” Phonic Request vs. Akhoa – Early Reflections 03. 06’58” Insane Behaviour – Fix The Fluff 04. 07’20” Ohm Gnome – Step Away From The Dwarf 05. 08’46” Naked Tourist – Lunatic Asylum 06. 07’30” Wizard Lizard – Dumping Physical Memory 07. 06’27” Kindzadza – Back To The Future 08. 07’22” Irie/Spiralz – Baloo 09. 08’39” Para Halu – Snake It Easy Review: Anti-fluff! Anti-cheddar! Anti-Christ! After last years massive compilation Psychedelically Yours 2 and the smash split album Tits On Fire by Grapes of Wrath/Meteloids, highly acclaimed Danish hyper-trance label Parvati Records is out with their 8th release… This time it’s another compilation, and if it’s only half as good as their previous releases I’m a happy man… Let’s find out… Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: Jahbo – Audiodidakt [145 BPM] First up is Jahbo a.k.a. Rølike Jahbo from Denmark who is also one half of Meteloids… I really, really dig his style and so far nothing he’s been involved in has let me down… And yes, I’m happy to inform you, that he does not let me down here either… After two seconds, the gloomy, haunting atmosphere has been established and Jahbo takes us for a fucked-up walk thru eerie forests… The skeleton of this track is made up by rich, phat pads of gritty industrial noise tangled up in deep, dark psychedelia… The title is a play on words, as ‘autodidakt’ means ‘self-taught’ in Danish, and fuck yeah – Jahbo knows his shit… Very cool track! #02: Phonic Request vs. Akhoa – Early Reflections [146 BPM] Phonic Request is Wilfried Decaesteker and Akhoa is O.Charpier – both from France… I haven’t heard any of their stuff before, so I didn’t really have any expectations… Though the bpm-range has only increased by 1, it seems like a must faster track… Deeply psychedelic, dark, twisted hyper-trance with just enough acid-lines to keep my ass wiggling… Kinda like Phyx, but with a darker more repetitive edge… I really like the oddball twists and rapid changes in pace this track have… Good experimental stuff! #03: Insane Behaviour – Fix The Fluff [147 BPM] “When you smoke that shit everything kind of gets weird, you know what I mean? Dope!…Eight cases where the natural structure of the hexagram makes its inversion ineffective in changing any of the lines” Insane Behaviour kicks things off with a Platoon quote that soon evolves into a Terrance McKenna quote… We’re back in Denmark now with the solo-project from Bo Terkelsen the other half of Meteloids... And Meteloids is just what this sounds like… Dark, distorted, twisted, wriggling underground psy-trance… As anti-fluffy as it gets! #04: Ohm Gnome – Step Away From The Dwarf [148 BPM] I thought they were called little people? Bo Terkelsen is also involved in this project along with Jaffa from Grapes of Wrath… Check out the wicked intro to this track – as Dam1on said it really picks you up by the shorts, and after a good old shake-up it dumps you back on the dancefloor… There’s a very unique groove in this track, and as it bounces back and forth it’s very hard not to move… Full power hypnotic night-time trance… I dig! #05: Naked Tourist – Lunatic Asylum [147 BPM] “Fantasy is a part of reality. And we take the break. We’re thinking clearly, yet not thinking at all. This feels right. We stop trying to control the drug. This feels right…” Naked Tourist is Z-Neo and Iguana from Germany, and they also had a track on Psychedelically Yours 2… Cool intro with some kid humming – a humming that soon transforms into a massive bassline… Computerized samples and dark, twisted FX makes up the initial part of the track, but it soon turns into a big old mean trance machine… I’m a sucker for acid-lines and this is acid galore! I like the naïve melody in the middle part, and everything after 6’48 is just pure bliss… The funny druggy voice-samples helps add to the overall madness this choon portrays… Aptly named indeed – and indeed brilliant! I’m gonna be all over their debut album coming soon on Parvati Records… Gimme gimme gimme! #06: Wizard Lizard – Dumping Physical Memory [146 BPM] This is my first encounter with the creative outlet of Roi Levi & Guy Marciano from Israel, but I know they’ve released tracks on both Doof and Nabi Records… And I’ll be damned if this isn’t another kick-ass track… Again it’s mean-ass, gritty, dirty, super-demented, evil hyper night-psytrance – with too many layers to count… A big phat wall of psychedelia – closing in on you! Reminds me of Kemic-Al – and that’s a sign of quality… I’ll keep my eyes open for these guys in the future ‘cause this is damn good! #07: Kindzadza – Back To The Future [148 BPM] “Look, it doesn’t matter who created what – the important thing is…” Kindzadza is Leo Greshilov from Russia, and he’s one of the veterans of darkish psytrance with two released albums and loads of compilation tracks… And holy fuck, this is one mean motherfucking tune… and I mean really mean – Psychodelichesky-mean! It’s an extremely fast-paced, hard-hitting bass-monster… Yikes! It takes a little getting used to, but after repeated listens you’ll learn to appreciate it… As opposed to my fellow reviewer Scobbah, I like the last two minutes here the best – there’s a very infectious groove going on… Good, but not as good as the previous tracks here I’m afraid… But then again, the competition is fierce on compilation, so it’s really nitpicking… #08: Irie/Spiralz – Baloo [146 BPM] Irie is Robin Mellgren and Spiralz is C.Granstøm – both from India… Their names don’t sound too Indian, so I have a feeling its exile Swedes in Goa… But screw that, let’s talk about the bare necessities of their track Baloo… This track is a mish-mash, hectic track with cut-up bits and pieces – put back together into a dark, industrial sounding psy-frenzy… It has definite hints to both the weirder side of Finnish and Australian psy-trance… Would’ve fit in perfectly on the Schizm compilation released on Gi’iwa in 2004… It’s a great track, but somehow it’s a little too hectic for the flow on this CD… What kinda shrooms are they on in India? Hook me up! #09: Para Halu – Snake It Easy [148 BPM] András Fekete & Adám Hohmann from Hungary lure us into thinking this is a laidback track with the track name and all… But I can assure you it’s not… It may sound like that for the first minute, but it’s a hoax! The track itself has kinda the same spooky, haunting feel as their track on Psychedelically Yours 2… Oh yes, this is Halloween trance complete with distant screams and crows to mess with your emotions… Boo-fucking-hoo! Bittersweet and twisted… And the ending really grabs you by the balls and leaves a lasting impression! A great way to end a truly great hyper-trance compilation! I love it! Despite the surprise turn the last three tracks take, I’m really, really impressed with this compilation that once and for all should establish Parvati Records as the founding fathers of ultra-hard, hard-hitting, ball-breaking, deeply demented hyper night-trance… There is no fucking around here – this is the real deal… As with the last two Parvati releases, I do not hesitate to give this my highest recommendation… All fans of the above mentioned style needs this compilation in their collection… Enjoy! V/A – Chilling Goddess Artist: Various Title: Chilling Goddess Format: CD (jewel case) Label: Peak Records (Switzerland) Cat. #: PR004CD Distribution: Arabesque Date: 21 March 2005 Track listing: 01. 02’22” Aes Dana – Hug (Intro) 02. 06’09” Astral Waves - Shanti 03. 07’19” Capsula – I Know That I Know 04. 06’44” Master Margherita - Lune 05. 07’24” Lucid Picnic - Ground 06. 08’33” Cell vs. Kalifrogz – Hawaii Transit (Ocean Board Remix) 07. 07’24” Omiq Project - Textures 08. 04’47” Electrypnose – Paradise Perdu 09. 07’18” Kick Bong – Gravity 10. 07’04” Peaking Goddess Collective feat. Alex Grey – You Are One 11. 06’00” Smiley Pixies – Spirits & Spells 12. 07’32” Dymons – Eagle Forest 13. 02’32” Tanina & Ajja – Equinox (Outro) Review: Peak Records – the highly spiritual and twisted posse from Lausanne, Switzerland is out with their fourth instalment… And after the three full-on bombshells Peaking Goddess, Peak-a-Boo and Peaking in Tongues it’s now time for some chill… In fact, this is the first chill out CD in a series – and by looking at the very impressive tracklist, it seems there is a new contender on the psy-chill market… Master Margherita compiled it and it was mastered by non other than chill godfathers Huby Sea and Vincent Villuis @ Ultimae Studies… They’ve never let me down, so I’ve got a feeling this’ll be good… Let’s find out… Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: Aes Dana – Hug (Intro) Ahh… What better way to start a chill compilation than with a hug from Aes Dana? After the brilliant album Memory Shell from 2004, Vince graces us with more beatless ambient… Soft, soothing, organic chill… Yeah, just like a soft hug… Brilliant… #02: Astral Waves – Shanti As with Peaking in Tongues, the tracks cross fades into eachother… It’s not a DJ beatmix or anything like that, just a soft mix into the next track. Astral Waves is the alias of DJ Zen from the US who mixed the 2003 Kagdila compilation Peace Therapy… And this is a very shanti track indeed… Laid-back soft percussion and subtle lyrics grace our ears… The pace increase and decrease as you just trance out to the thick Eastern influences… A little like Kaya Project, but not a clone… Ok track! #03: Capsula – I Know That I Know “We are all so fascinated with recording things. Taking photographs, writing them down and above all remembering them (…) Because you see if you don’t remember anything, you don’t know you’re there. A person who has total amnesia and lived in a split second only wouldn’t know he was there.” Capsula is a new project by a guy called Yosi Shamay – and he brings forth a more psychedelic edge into the chill spectre… This is twisted stuff, and one of the main reasons for that is the very trippy samples… “But suddenly to know that you’re there, you need an echo…There was a young man who said though; it seems that I know that I know. What I would like to see is the eye that knows me when I know that I know that I know” … Try figuring that one out while trippin’! #04: Master Margherita – Lune Master Margherita aka. Moreno Antognini is one of the leading members of the Peaking Goddess Collective and he also compiled this CD… This track starts with dark, murky chanting – by Margherita himself and Yan Schirardin who also plays the guitar on this track… The music is dark and gloomy, almost medieval in nature – kinda reminds me of some of the old Howden/Wakeford stuff… Spooky dark ambient! #05: Lucid Picnic – Ground We continue digging into darker realms on this track by Serhan Berberoglu… This is a track of contrasts – there’s a mean old deep repetitive bass of some sort – accompanied by feather light melodies and spacey, dreamy effects… This is dark ambient if there ever was dark ambient… #06: Cell vs. Kalifrogz – Hawaii Transit (Ocean Board Remix) Cell is Alexandre Scheffer known for his many brilliant tracks on chill compilations – Kalifrogz is a project previously unknown to me, but according to the credits it’s Eric Brandy & Christophe Fabulet… I dunno – but I do know that ‘Ocean Board’ is a well-fitting name, as this track starts out with the gentle sounds of water splashing up onto the beach… Slowly effects are added… Steeldrum, congas and more percussion… It’s still very mellow, soothing ambient – but with a lighter edge than its two predecessors… And we get melodies too… This track gets better and better as it progresses – and it turns into a nice ethno-chill track halfway thru… Tasty! #07: Omiq Project – Textures This is another unknown project to me – members are Sérgio Walgood and Daniel Belo… We’ve reached spacy electro ambient territory now, and this surely is some mellow stuff… I could definitely fall to sleep to this after a blunt or two… Hints of dub and electric elves dancing around you… Nice! #08: Electrypnose – Paradise Perdu Next up is Vince from Switzerland with his project Electrypnose… He’s a Peak Records regular and released his debut album Brain Stretching on www.ResonantEarth.com in early 2005 (review coming soon)… This is a very melodic track, though with a certain eerie twist… It’s like you fear to watch, yet you cannot look away… I can’t put my finger on it, but there is something very mesmerizing about this track – I really wish it was longer, as it’s very nice melodic downbeat stuff! #09: Kick Bong – Gravity Kick Bong is another familiar chill project – thought out by Frank Jousselin… Known for his many tracks on Spirit Zone’s Global Psychedelic Chill/Trance compilations as well as great tracks on other labels + he released his debut album A Cup of Tea on Ultra Vista Records earlier this year… And this is another fine kicking tune… I really like the tribal, dubby Juno Reactor’esque sound that Jousselin manages to create… Tribal, trance-inducing world beat music with a psychedelic edge… Very nice! #10: Peaking Goddess Collective feat. Alex Grey – You Are One “I’m generally positive, it’s not just, you know, flowers and bird songs, you know. God is an earthquake as well. You know, it’s awesome, it’s terrifying, it’s you know. You are one with the same force that provides the spiral arms of the galaxy. That universal creativity. It’s also what you are as well. And when the mystic eye is open and sees that, a person is forever changed!” Woow… The PGC featuring none other than the words of visionary artist Alex Grey… Anyone even remotely associated with the world of psytrance should know the magnificent art of Alex Grey – one example is his art on the cover for the Cosmosis album Contact… I’m not surprised the PGC would want to include him – it’s very well fitting to their spirit… I’ve always liked the mellow PGC tracks, and this is no exception… This track was inspired by such diverse artists as Santana and Shpongle, and yeah – you can definitely tell that… It’s not a cheap imitation – it’s the real thing… Tons of psychedelic FX, guitars and twisted psychedelia help create a truly wonderful track! Brilliant! #11: Smiley Pixies – Spirits & Spells Next is a project by Fernando Hood Dantas Abreu called Smiley Pixie… This is a much laid back downbeat electro piece – with funny vocoded voice bits that reminds me a lot of some of the early Shpongle stuff… Experimental, dubby electro-chill… Not bad at all! #12: Dymons – Eagle Forest Dymons is Daniel Symons from the PGC, and this is a very tribal inspired, dubby world beat choon… A deep, lazy bass sets the pace as we rummage through some deep rainforest – the Eagle Forest! Native chanting and acoustic percussion helps set the mood on this true-to-nature tune… Very nice indeed! #13: Tanina & Ajja – Equinox (Outro) “The soul is free…” To finish things off, Tanya Innocenti & Ajja S F. Leu from the PGC collaborates on this outro track…. It’s much like the Aes Dana intro – high quality soothing, relaxed, beatless ambient with whispering samples… Yeah, this compilation draws to a close – and the soul is free… ;o) Well, I must say that Peak Records again surprise me positively… Last years full-on compilation Peaking in Tongues was an instant smash, and now the Swiss collective have proven that they also can put together high quality chill compilations… Besides from a couple of the really dark, minimal tunes in the second quarter of this CD, I like most of the tracks here… The diversity is rich, and we get a taste of most kinds of chilled music… From dreamy beatless chill-out, over dark gloomy ambient, to trippy tribal ethno dub... A diversity that should satisfy most fans of rich chill-out music… Diversity rules! I’m really looking forward to the next chill compiliation from this magical Swiss collective to grace our ears… And I do not hesitate to recommend this to fans of chilled, mellow soundscapes… Enjoy! Oh yeah, I'm a samples nut... I love a well-place sample... You guys have already mentioned most of the classics, but here are a few more I absolutely love: Scatterbrain - Mexican Jesus: Yeah, sort of reminds me of a time in Montana. It was 31st of December 1994 when I saw the Mexican Jesus floating down the river. Yellowstone National Park. I think it was like minus twenty degrees in the snow and he was floating down butt naked. I don't think he was Native American, he seemed too Mexican looking you know. He had long black hair and he was butt naked in the middle of the Yellowstone River. Minus twenty. And we'd put our head under the water and come up and we turned our eyes and he didn't have a [...] of ice on his hand, nothing. He was completely immune to the cold. And eh, which reminds me about the ayahuasca experience you know meeting the Mother Serpent. I don't think anybody really could, err... How to describe it? It was totally mind numbing. Just taking it, and waiting and that first time you take it, the suddenly you feel like you've got these vines running through your body. They were [...] ripping through your body. And that bright light burning you up from the inside. Next thing you know, you've got a Mother Serpent inside you. And the next minute you're down there, with the DNA watching the dino. Genetic material getting changed before your eyes. Man, people think they know about drugs, but... That ain't a drug, it's a sacrament. It's just a portal to another world. It's realities that are always there. A key to other dimensions That we live with them all the time. Thankfully our awareness never touches... How would I describe it? Terrifying. Enlightening. But utterly terrifying. You swear you'll never go back. Ever. And the next thing you know, you're taking it again. You're going down that tunnel. People say you have a choice. I don't think there's any choice. Ayahuasca just takes you. No choice. You surrender or you resist. Resist or inhale. You surrender, you must be free. I don't know if I could do that again. And the Mother Goddess calls me, the cosmic circuit calls. I have to answer. And I have to go back to the [...] I have no choice. I have no choice. It's not a drug, it's... It's not a drug. It's just the holy sacrament. Younger Brother - Even Dwarves Starts Small: "Oh when I arrived in England I was thrown in jail for about 4 hours, right off the bat. Why? Didn't have a lot of cash, didn't look respectable, you know. Things like that. It's, you know it's like that, man, I, I, I, I've been in jail, you know, in a lot of coutries, you know because they don't like the way I hang out, they don't like my lifestyle, you know, I smoke a little shit... and I just hang out, man... I don't like to work too often, unless it's for something groovy..." Talpa - People are Animals: "I was looking at my friend Linda... Suddenly feathers popped out on to her skin. Her nose curved into a beak. She had an eagle’s face. I looked at my boyfriend Johnny, he was turning into a bird too! So was Linda’s boyfriend. We were at Central Park zoo. I couldn’t move, I wanted to cry but no tears would come. “Oh God” I heard myself yell, “People really are animals!”. I started laughing hysterically but in the inside I didn’t feel funny. I started to run away from the others through Central Park until I stopped under a stone bridge. Johnny kept calling me. After a lot of time I went up on the bridge. Johnny always had been my source of security. He said that LSD was brutal but that it wouldn’t hurt me. He said that I’d see beautiful colours and hear musical notes but I never did. Instead I saw awful things, people looked like monkeys, cracks in sidewalks became big crevasses you could fall into. Finally after about 8 hours the drug started to wear off. I was depressed for days afterwards. I was depressed for days afterwards. I never gonna try that again!..." Fuzzion - Dazed and Confused: 'I mean, think. Would. Did you ever look at one-dollar bill? There's some spooky stuff going on on a dollar bill man. I mean. And it's green too!' Zodiac Youth - Cartographers of the Universe: 'The cartographers of the universe. They're (...). They're star-charged. How far does it go? Does time have an end? My personal theory is that everything is happening all the time. We're just not smart enough to see it, that's all!' GNOTR - Ring of Fire: 'OK, space cadets! Prepare to hurtle through the cosmos!' + many more... DeathPosture

Basically ambient and chill-out is great for making sweet, sweet love... I remember a couple of years ago, Damion posted my top ten on his weekly psyreviews mailinglist All of which was tested and approved by me and my girlfriend at the time... I cannot recommend having sex to anything with too high a bpm - as you'll feel inclined to keep the pace so-to-speak... hehe... Well, that can be a good thing too, but generally you want to keep the pace a little slower... Hehe... If we're talking about sexy tracks, there are loads of psy with sexy bits... One of the horniest I've heard recently is Krüger & Coyle "Love Juice"... Have you heard this? Damn - that girl is SOOOO asking for it... Nice! DeathPosture

Ant Invasion is an incredible track... As a stroke of luck, my local music pusher had the album back in 1999 when I started collecting seriously - and now it's virtually impossible to find... Anyway, AI is a smashing track... A journey really... That rhythm section still sends shivers down my spine everytime I listen to it... Brilliant stuff! DP
