Network Title: When Solar Fields meets Aes Dana - Distances Label: Ultimae Records, France Cat. #: INRE 012 Year: 2004 Track listing: 01. 08’40” Distances 02. 07’40” Access to the Long Fields 03. 05’53” Rain Geometries 04. 07’12” Symetric Lifes 05. 03’29” Processing Lights 06. 06’48” Indigo Rooms 07. 08’29” Time Circles 08. 10’24” Overload (Putput Mix) 09. 05’46” Moon Town 10. 07’38” Morning Call (Dawn Remix) 11. 05’56” Sunday Barbeque with the Neighbours Review: Behold the battle of the giants… Humans Under Visual Atmospheres Network… Sounds pretty posh, and in a sense it is… This is ambient heavy-weights Magnus Birgersson & Vincent Villuis (of Solar Fields and Aes Dana fame respectably). We heard the first taster of their collaboration of Fahrenheit Project Part 3, and now finally the full album is out…Naturally, it’s on Ultimae Records … That alone, says ‘quality guaranteed’ in my book… Through broadband internet technology, they’ve been able to swiftly send bits and pieces back and forth from France to Sweden through Ultimae-servers… This album was in the making for six full months, and only a couple of times did the two sonic wizards actually meet IRL… Wow, the wonders of modern technology, huh!? I’ve listened to this virtually non-stop since I received it in the mail, and it’s hard for me to describe how wonderful it is… I can’t stop listening to it… Ambient chill in its purest, cleanest form… From featherlike, dreamy, tribal atmospheric chill to deep, dark, dubby, alienated downbeat… So fresh, so clean, so well polished… This is beyond words! Make sure you give this the respect it deserves, but playing it on a decent sound system… There is so much stuff going on, on so many frequencies – Headphones are highly recommended… The deep, rich baselines and the overall magical ambient feel will send you on a journey you will not soon forget… Strong contender for ambient album of the year! 9.5/10 Favourites: All (Oh, and check out the dark, gloomy hidden track after BBQ… Sweet!) 2. Neo Logic – Groove Logic Format: CD Artist: Neo Logic Title: Groove Logic Label: Candyflip Records, Greece Cat. #: CD CF09 Date: March 15th Year: 2004 Track listing: 01. 06’42” Milky Way 02. 07’21” Body Move 03. 07’30” The Swinger 04. 07’43” Direction Time 05. 07’21” Groove Logic 06. 08’42” Image Produce 07. 07’01” Transessive 08. 07’16” Aviation 09. 07’18” No Distance 10. 05’44” Feel the Kit Review: When pigs fly! What do you get when Echotek and Safi Connection join forces? You get something in between dark and light… Something in between night and morning… Something in between minimal and full on… Something groovy! Groove Logic! The sound on this is something else, and you really have to listen to understand what I mean… ;o) Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: Slow, almost dubby intro… Relaxed female voice telling us about the cosmos… And then we are presented with the groovy Neo Logic sound that is present throughout the album… Much work has gone into the percussion work, creating a very smooth, almost sexy, beach house sound… Great stuff… Nice intro track! #02: The vibe continues… Crisp percussion and overall smoothness… The nice girl is still with us, talking about “body move - when pigs fly”… Rrrright! Nice, easy-going morning track here… Nothing to complicated, just feel-good groovy progressive trance… Cool track! #03: The Swinger – the ultimate soundtrack for old people having sex with each other… Nah, that just sounds wrong! We’re on the tribal side of things …nice!… Birds whistling, claves, bongos and tribal drums… Damn, these guys sure know how to create a nice atmosphere in a track… Nice track! #04: Blips and bongos here… And something about some sensors monitoring the ground for 100 yards in every direction… Not too much is going on here, but the atmosphere is pleasant… This is nice chill music – not too hectic, not too intense, but very pleasant… Nice track! #05: We’re moving slightly faster now, on this progressive morning tune… Thus, still maintaining the groovy feel… I like the way it changes pace halfway through and then shifting back into place again… Super smooth! Nice track! #06: Woow, this is cool… Subtle use of percussion creates a super track… Slow but steadily its building and building… And yum, those tribal beats are so delicious… Awesome vibe! Cool track! #07: Aargh, my spell-checker wants to change ‘transessive’ to ‘transvestite’ – am I missing something here!? The tribal feel is still in focus… Pretty fast track, fast kicks and distinctive use of groovy bass… I like the use of cued voices and weird trumpet effects… Nice! #08: Really spacey track here… Riddled with samples and all kinds of twisted psychedelia firmly placed on top a groove base… Again awesome percussion… Do I hear a crow somewhere? Great track! #09: Again a track with a slightly darker feel, thus maintaining the Neo Logic groove… Twisted flips and flops, tribal percussion, psychedelic piano, weird synths, etc… Great combo! Nice track! #10: And of course, a nice downbeat track to finish of a nice journey… These guys know their shit… We are treated to more atmospheric, tribal, percussion driven groove… Only the pace is slower… I can’t describe it better – it’s just pleasant! This album was definitely a nice surprise… Actually I’ve had a pretty difficult time describing the tracks, ‘cause they are more or less the same… But despite most cases, that’s not a bad thing… The distinctive groove is present throughout the album, and that’s cool! The flow between tracks is perfect here, and this album should definitely be listened to from start to finish – it’s a journey! Nothing stands out – it’s all very pleasant and leaves you with a smile on your face… Hats off to Micha and Mishel for this feel-good-experience! ;o) 8/10 Favourites: 2, 3, 6 (!), 8 DeathPosture External links: Candyflip Records: www.candyflip-records.com Chaos Unlimited: www.chaosunlimited.co.uk (soundclips available) Trance Shop: www.trance-shop.com Saiko Sounds: www.saikosounds.com

  5. Son Kite – On Air Remixed Format: CDM Artist: Son Kite Title: On Air - Remixes Label: Digital Structures, Sweden Cat. #: DIGCDS03 Year: 2004 Track listing: 01. 09’48” Son Kite – On Air [Original] 02. 07’15” Son Kite – On Air [Deedrah Remix] 03. 11’08” Son Kite – On Air [Lemon8 Remix] 04. 05’27” Son Kite – On Air [Future/Past Remix] 05. 06’27” Son Kite – On Air [MIDIval PunditZ] 06. 10’14” Son Kite – On Air [New Disco Science Alliance Remix] Review: Step one of a four-stage rocket! A kite full of colours sweeps across the sky with a strong wind in its sail… Yes, Swedish super-producers Son Kite has released step one in their ambitious Colours project… One Album, two singles and a DVD... Wikkid! This first single, proggy jewel “On Air”, was christened with the help of Isratrance-regulars and includes no less than 5 amazing remixes! Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: First up is the original… A very cool, floating, dream-like intro sets the mood… Someone hits a piano-key about 5-6 times, low voice-muttering samples in the back-ground, someone talking about radio – basically we’re just chilling out, having a good time… And then, at 2:22 the infamous Swedish progressive baseline cuts thru the silence like a scythe… This is the true essence of trance, razor-sharp percussion, beautiful synths, wonderful melody… And a build-up @ 5:15 that’ll annoy the hell out of you the first time you hear it, but after a few listens you’ll give in to the sheer genius that is On Air! So get your damn hands up in the air – this is a magic track! #02: Next up is Mr. Ibiza himself… Many of the elements from the original are still intact… The about radio samples and the basic groove and melodies – just pitched up to suit the Deedrah-style. Very dance floor oriented… Deedrah did a good job on this one! I like full on – and I like progressive… But I prefer to take them individually, so somehow this is a little out of place for my taste… Nothing is wrong with the track though - let me stress that… Nice track! #03: Prior to this release I had no idea who the hell Lemon8 was and the cover notes didn’t provide any info either… Good thing we have Discogs.com then! ;o) Featured here is critically acclaimed Dutch house-producer Harry Lemon, remixing the hell out of the original… Only smaller elements are kept – just enough to let you recognize the source… This is one heck of a Gatecrasher-Ministry-of-Sound, epic, driving, progressive trance tune… Playing for a little over 11 minutes, you could’ve cut a few slices of this lemon and still maintaining the juicy flavour! Great track! #04: Another unknown remixer… Thank Shiva for Discogs! ;o) Future/Past is Kirk Degiorgio and he has quite a few tracks on B12, R&S and Applied Rhythmic Technology releases… I still have no idea where he is from or what his other stuff sounds like, but at least now I know his name… Well, that’s wondering from the point really… This is quite an odd remix… Part of it is pure noise; part is pure experimental house bliss… Cut beats, irregular rhythm and overall weirdness… This track has its moments, but generally I’m not too impressed! Decent track! #05: Ahhh… A downbeat mix! US breaks-n-ambient duo MIDIval PunditZ working magic here… This is nice blend of all kinds of stuff… Dubby breaks, Oriental chanting, Raja flute, sitar, mellow tribal percussion… With the added value nostalgic Son Kite groove intact! Very nice track! #06: Finally we have a New Disco Science Alliance remix… Swedish progressive trance masters remixing Swedish progressive trance masters… I smell success! This one is for the ladies – sexy, smooth, progressive, deep… And groooooveeeey! Very true to the original, yet the pace is different and the groove is even more penetrating… I dare anyone to not move to this! Amazing track! Anyone familiar with the MPDQX label group knows that their releases ooze quality both visually and production-wise… And this is no exception… With this first step in the Colours four-some, they continue to distance themselves from the vast majority of trance labels… I for one am looking very much forward to steps 2, 3 and 4… If I have to nitpick, I would’ve changed the order of the tracks to: 01, 02, 03, 06, 04 and finally 05 to get an ever smoother flow… Perhaps even a journey! And some artist-info in the cover would have been nice too… But who cares really – this is an amazing CDM! Highly recommended! 8.5/10 Favourites: 1 (!!), 3, 5 (!), 6 (!!) 6. Ypsilon5 - Binary Sky Format: CD Artist: Ypsilon5 Title: Binary Sky Label: Tranceform Records, Finland Cat. #: TFMCD003 Date: March 29th Year: 2004 Track listing: 01. 09’19” Gaseous Blob 02. 09’30” Hologram Infection 03. 07’59” Cosmic Psychosis 04. 09’33” Ground Zero 05. 09’08” Paranormal 06. 09’43” Beta Pictoris 07. 11’57” Heliosphere Review: More old school than Donkey Kong! Finland isn’t all weird faggot-squaremeat type insanity… It’s also the home of Tranceform Records, one of the leading forces in the resurrection of old school goa trance… This 3rd. release, showcasing some Swedish melodic goa is from Ypsilon5 - Gothenburg based David Lilje of former Örebro fame… This is old school all the way through – actually the only thing not old school about this is the cover-art which looks cool, but strangely out of tune with the music… Well, looks can be deceiving… Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: Huh? So I accidentally got an old Astral Projection CD instead of Ypsilon5? …No I haven’t – I’ve checked and double-checked… This IS Ypsilon5, but could easily have been an old Astral Projection tune… The difference is minimal… But hey, old AP was good right? And this is good… Focus is the trance-inducing melodies, beautiful synths… It’s just plain old happy-go-lucky goa trance produced with modern production techniques…Still trying to figure out how a blob can be gaseous… It’s a mind-boggler! Anyway, great track! #02: This continues in the same style, only slightly faster… A classic night time stomper here, complete with the usual sci-fi samples… I guess the old saying “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” suits this, ‘cause there is nothing revolutionary about this – at all! Oh wait, actually there is this very cool “Muses Rapt – Spiritual Healing” inspired melody in the middle of the track… Not original in any way, but still very pleasant to listen too… Nice track! #03: Slowly, building intro here… The odd Eastern flute adds to the atmosphere, and then BAM, the baseline takes over, framing another morning trance tune… Melodies swirling all over the place – this is fodder for all the smiling faces on the dance floor… Nice track! #04: This is the track you can download for free… And I encourage you to do so, because this is cool! Actually, this is the least-old school track of the album…A slightly darker and deeper track than the rest… Still very much full on, with crisp acid-influences and super cool guitars! Very cool track! #05: Sounds familiar? Well, that’s because you’ve already heard it… This track was released on last years Tranceform compilation Blissfull Moments… A timeless morning track here… Fast paced, simple melodies and just, err… Pure bliss! Reminds me of old Man With No Name stuff actually… Nice track! #06: More jolly melodies here… I see a pattern forming! ;o) This is very light, highly melodic morning trance… Maybe even close to being Nitzhonot… I don’t know, but this doesn’t really grab me as much as the rest of the album… Dare I say, slightly boring? #07: Last but not least (sorry for being so unbelievably predictable *sS*)… A nice, chilled track to let you relax after all that melodic mayhem… This is pretty straightforward… Mellow sounds, dubby beats and slow melodies… Nothing revolutionary here, but definitely some chilled quality… Ok track! After years of living in the shadows, old school is back… And I for one appreciate that… Nothing will let your mind fly like the old classic distinctive mid-nineties sound… That combined with modern production techniques makes a great cocktail… However, I’m sure many will find this boring and very dated, but if you fancy going back to the old days and reminisce for a while, you do not want to miss this… I kinda have mixed feelings about this… I really, really like old school, and most of this is good, it’s just not awesome…I could’ve used more build-ups and climaxes in most of the tracks… But I guess I have to wait for the next Tranceform release for that – I hear that the ‘king of climaxes’ Filteria has a few tracks on a forthcoming compilation… To sum up; Listen to this before you buy… For some people, this will not be an essential release, but for what it is, it’s quite good! ;o) 7/10 Favourites: 1, 4 (!!) 7. Format updated June 8th '05... Puoskari - The Audio Hustler Format: CD Artist: Puoskari Title: The Audio Hustler Label: Freakdance Records, Finland Cat. #: FDCD04 Year: 2004 Track listing: 01. 07’07” Aamuventys 02. 08’07” Fifty-Sixty 03. 07’23” Hit And Run 04. 08’28” Humboogie 05. 07’35” 7teas 06. 06’56” AivoMäyrä 07. 08’20” The Audio Hustler 08. 06’57“ Herra Jänis 09. 07’23“ Kammiopärinä 10. 06’05“ Vipinää O-Kulmassa Review: Oh boy, the faggots did not live in vain…! Blimey! Finnish label Freakdance Records is out with its 4th release… This time an artist album from Oskari Nuotio aka Puoskari who first surfaced on last year’s mega-strange Freakdance compilation FDCD03. Here’s much more insane stuff from lake country! My fellow reviewer PKS dubbed this vodka-trance – and Per, I couldn’t have said it better… This is some seriously fucked up, drunken, messy shit… And all that is meant as superlatives! ;o) If you’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to Texas Faggot, Squaremeat, Haltya and other Surreal Audio/Exogenic releases you’ll know just what to expect… The trademark Finnish sound that is just about as far away from mainstream trance as you can get… Insane, funky, deeply psychedelic, perverted, dark, gloomy, powerful, unstructured crazy-ass forest stuff! Packed with all kinds of bizarre samples, off key notes, off beats, old school videogames samples, pitched up elephant trunk sounds and so on… Every track consists of thousands of elements – multilayered, entangled short melodies, with so much madness thrown on top…. This shit is loco! The production quality sounds flawless too me – but you can’t really judge that with Finnish stuff can you? You either love this or hate it… Personally, I love it… But not unconditionally! I can only cope with Finnish stuff for a limited time in one listening session – after a while it gets too intense for me… Too damn weird! So I prefer to take my Finnish Delights in small dozes… This is kinda like a bottle of whiskey. 3-4 shots are nice, but drinking the whole bottle will leave you sick… But if you can cope; if you’re a hardened alcoholic, if you’re open-minded and if you like the typical Finnish sound you’ll dig this! I think it’s a nice, refreshing release – definitely out of the ordinary. ;o) Only 700 copies pressed, so you might not want to wait too long ordering this… if you’re the kinda pervert into this! ;o) 6/10 DeathPosture External links: Freakdance Records: www.freakdancerecords.net (Soundclips available) Saiko Sounds: www.saikosounds.com Streetbeat: www.streetbeat.ac

  12. Rinkadink – Rabbit From Darkside Format: CD Artist: Rinkadink Title: Rabbit From Darkside Label: Alchemy Records, U.K. Cat. #: ALCD 009 Date: February 23rd. Year: 2004 Track listing: 01. 05’53” Anyone Seen Bender? 02. 07’09” Pacific Producers 03. 06’57” Hope Was Closed 04. 07’04” Cabbage Al La Tetradink 05. 07’25” Syntax & Whiskey (Rmx) 06. 07’14” Charlie Cat V.4 07. 07’09” Tune From Childhood 08. 07’15” Stampede 09. 05’57” Power Spooge Review: Behold the rabbit from darkside. That's the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on! Prior to this debut album from South African producer Vana (Werner Van Jaarsveld), my knowledge of Rinkadink was limited… I’ve only heard a couple of tracks on the odd compilation here and there… So I didn’t really have any expectations when this arrived in my mailbox… So much greater was my joy when I put this on and found this to be really refreshing album… Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: The first thought that enter your mind when this track opens, is darkness… Very wicked, dark, gloomy almost industrial sounds… But a bass line is introduced fast enough, and soon familiar Futurama-samples are sprinkled all over… Kick-ass bleeps and twirls @ 3’00 and then Bender ask “Why would God think in binary… Unless!?”…;o) This track is both atmospheric and stunning… My only gripe is that it’s a little too short… I want more! Amazing track! #02: This album is mixed, so there’s no time to chill out between tracks. Luckily this baby starts slower, taking a dip in the Pacific… But we are soon greeted by a pounding bass line followed by your random full on mayhem… After a short bass pause, a thicker bass kicks in followed by the melody that was introduced in the beginning of the track. Filters play a big role in this track, and it’s cool to lean back and listen to how Werner twists those knobs… ;o) Nice track! #03: We launch straight into a very cool intro here… Something is played in reverse, something is messed up, but it sounds great… It’s soon replaced by a typical 2004 full on sound… But luckily, it isn’t all boring and predictable… Rinkadink is playing with the listener, exposing us to all kinds of psychedelic mayhem; cut beats, accelerating bass lines and funny samples…“All over this bitch!”… From the pretty “standard” middle part, the rest of the track with its great innovation and freshness strikes a remarkable contrast… It is however an interesting contrast! Great track! #04: Another great intro here, very atmospheric with clever use of animal-samples – kinda feels like you’re in the South African jungle for a moment there…Nice! More full on here, with excessive use of acid synths, with neat little feather-light twirly melodies… It’s hard not to enjoy those! I’m still guessing what the hell the title means!? Anyway, cool track! #05: Right, so this is a remix of the track Whiplash - Syntax & Whiskey from the Nano Records compilation Emergence… Alchemy label boss, Shane Gobi helped twist the knobs on this baby… Well done gents! Unfortunately I have not heard the original, so I can’t tell you whether this is better or not. What I can tell you however is that this is one hell of a tune… Stomping, dark, aggressive full on wizardry for late, late nights on the dance floor… The acid peaks in this will drill deep into your brain… Holy fug, this is awesome! ;o) #06: It’s hard to top such a great track, but Charlie Cat makes an honest attempt… This continues down the same path, though this isn’t nearly as insane as its predecessor… Powerful bass in a fast, dark night track… Snares play a big part in this track as well… Oh, and I really dig the heavily pitched up vocoded voice sample… Great track! #07: Now we’re taking a different direction, this is much lighter, happier… I guess the sun has set, and it’s time to break out the melodies… And what was the tune from Vena’s childhood? It was the theme from an old Amiga game called Turrican II… It’s not the first time, we hear music from old school computer games in tracks, but still it’s kinda unusual… Sounds very original… Nice track! #08: Silence…. Boom……....Boom……. Boom…. Boom, boom, boom, faster, faster, faster… Yeah, that’s just the way this track starts… Before we know it, it’s Rinkadink territory again… Sound madness, crazy ass samples pitched to a unrecognizable pulp of psychedelia… The odd happy synth melody here and there, always the strong kick from a familiar bass. Rinkadink found his formula, and it’s awesome! I’m not running anywhere! Cool track! #09: This is the Rinkadink version of a chilled track at the end of an album… It’s slightly slower than the rest, but the heavy bass is still very much present here… Really cool synth-effects in this track… Unfortunately it’s the last one – what’s the rush Vana? You could’ve easily squeezed another gem in here! Anyway, this is a very worthy ending of a great, epic album… And remember, we’re all made of spooge! Great track! The promotional text states that this is “A cacophony of pure mayhem and striking originality, this album is a quantum leap far beyond the norm” Well, I wouldn’t go as far as quantum leap, but this certainly is an interesting album… I have a few minor gripes against it though: First of all, a few of the tracks seems a bit short, the longest one running for only 7’25 minutes… Also, I’m not the biggest fan of mixed CDs… But as written, those are minor gripes that do not ruin the overall impression of a stellar album. Neo full on is neo full on, and I must confess that there are smaller elements of this album that sound like the endless stream of neo full on releases… But this is, however miles ahead of your usual GMS-clone… I cannot stress that enough! The cover-art is funny, yet classy. Fits the style perfectly! This is a great album, and I would recommend it to everyone who likes modern, twisted full on psychedelia… 8.5/10 Favourites: 1 (!!), 3, 5 (!!!), 6, 9 DeathPosture External links: Alchemy Records: www.alchemyrecords.co.uk Chaos Unlimited: www.chaosunlimited.co.uk (soundclips available) Psyshop: www.psyshop.com (soundclips available) Saiko Sounds: www.saikosounds.com (soundclips available) Trance-shop: www.trance-shop.com
  13. Aluna – For The Love Of The Deep Blue Sea Format: CD Artist: Aluna Title: For The Love Of The Deep Blue Sea Label: Optica Records, U.K. Cat. #: OPT CD 003 Year: 2003 Track listing: 01. 09’06” For The Love Of The Deep Blue Sea 02. 06’02” Albazin 03. 02’51” Whirlpool 04. 06’40” Autumn Song 05. 04’17” Shae 06. 08’08” Border Crossing 07. 08’51” Holos 08. 07’36” Song To The Steppes 09. 08’19” Sahara Ecstatic 10. 07’55” Massai Meltdown 11. 07’43” Atum Review: Ambient territory Again, an older release which shun my attention when it was released back in 2003… Do you know this feeling: You’re about to put on a CD; you’ve never heard about the artist or the music, but somehow you just know “this is going to be good”!? That was exactly the feeling this piece of plastic gave me, and my feelings were right… This is a magical album! This is truly something outstanding. Producer Paul Roberts travelled the world for 3½ years gathering inspiration and recording tracks from all corners of the world: Africa, South Africa and Asia… He has collected magical, beautiful sounds from the deepest recesses of ancient cultures… Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: This is an instant classic! Native chanting on top of smooth, floating ambience… You get all kinds of bells, whistles, sitars, birds singing and even whale song - Recorded at a massive depth by a Nasa submarine – how cool is that? ;o)… This will fit in perfectly on a Mystery of the Yeti compilation… Subtle grooves, deep relaxation… Mmm… Wonderful track! #02: Thick Arabian influences on this second track to grace our ears… Emphasis is on the slow melodies, flute, violin, harp and acoustic guitar… Oh, and we get more bird action, this time the swallows of Granada! The ending is a bit abrupt, but still a nice track! #03: A short little guitar-driven track, a bit faster now, but only a little… Sadly this disappears as quickly as it surfaced… This is a bit too short, but you’ll enjoy it while it’s there… Nice! #04: More violins now, the “pace” from the previous track is intact and we get some really amazing violins along with accordion sounds… This sounds almost “Irish” if you know what I mean… Also, we get Vicky Rainbow singing which fits in nicely. I can see why this is called Autumn Song… When I close my eyes and listen to this, all I see is the golden colours of autumn… Cool track! #05: Wow, hang on to your hats and specs; you’re in a boat approaching a waterfall now! But you somehow manage to avoid getting wet and just float in the air absorbing the true beauty of electronic ambient music. Wonderful track! #06: Let’s cross the border into… Arabia! The middle-eastern melodies are back… Flutes and acoustic guitars control the pace… You get the world’s shortest fiesta in the intro, but mellowness soon takes over, giving your more mind-expanding brain food… But the fiesta balance is equalled out for the last three minutes… Get your Latin groove on! Nicey nice! #07: Now be prepared for Holos! More Arab chants, crowd cheer, hectic percussion, bongos, bells, Raja Ram-like flute, subtle synths, etc. - It’s all here… This is a feast for the senses, a big mash-up of all kinds of emotional sounds… Kinda intense, but still very lovely! #08: Wow, high pitched female chants from the get go, carefully mounting a deep, slow bass line… A jazzy, dusty saxophone is also present along with an acoustic guitar – Both give me a huge smile on my face… And someone’s packing a panpipe! Nice track! #09: Let’s get ecstatic in Sahara! Tribal feel throughout nicely mixed with a smooth old fashioned piano… The jazzy touch from #8 is still very much present… And when was the last time you heard jazz from Sahara? This is not my fav’e here, but it’s still very interesting. Decent track! #10: Atum – no idea what that means in Hindi, but this should satisfy any lover of Eastern influenced atmospheric chill out… This is one for the weekend Hindus! ;o) More beautiful singing by Vicky Rainbow… So many bells and whistles and flutes and all kinds of percussion… Is there a genre called ambient-fusion? If so, this is it…Deeply trance inducing… Brilliant! #11: Massai Meltdown… Ha ha! So we get a lot of singing on this last track… A Massai warrior singing about battles won and lost, alongside a Massai women singing about love lost and found… How poetic… There’s this very melancholy feeling in this track, but I guess that suits the topic… I have mixed feelings about this track… I mean, it’s so well crafted, but at times it gets too damn weird, even for my taste. But it’s by no means bad. Decent track! From the cover notes: “The word Aluna comes from the Kogi Indians of Columbia. It has no direct Western translation, it is their word for both the spirit world and the trance state” … How nice. I’m not a spiritual person, but I have to surrender myself to this CD….This is music for dreams… Gathered from all over the world… I’ve been truly surprised positively by this … There is a lot of great ambient out there, and this definitely deserves a place up there with the greats… As most music, this gain even more when listened to in headphones, so I’d recommend that… The simple cover provides you with just the right amount of information about the artist and the tracks. Nice. If you haven’t already checked this out, I strongly encourage you to do so! 9/10 Favourites: 1(!!), 4, 5, 7, 10 DeathPosture External links: Ajuca Productions: www.ajucaproductions.co.uk Chaos Unlimited: www.chaosunlimited.co.uk (soundclips available) Psyshop: www.psyshop.com (soundclips available)

  16. V/A – UK Trance Format: CD Artist: Various Title: UK Trance Label: Transient, U.K. Cat. #: TRANR648CD Release date: 23rd. February Year: 2004 Track listing: 01. 08’21” Aphid Moon – Superfly 02. 06’37” Error Corrective – Secret Lab 03. 07’35” Fortu - Fiver 04. 07’53” Compressor – Saw Dust 05. 08’20” Dino Psaras – Daisy Cutter (Remix) 06. 08’11” Voice Of Cod – Art Of Feng Shui 07. 06’52” Tristan – Dawn Raider 08. 08’36” Mumbo Jumbo – Mystereons (Annarchy vs. Dickster Rmx) 09. 08’41” Cosmosis & Mumbo Jumbo – Just Say Now (The Melodic Mumble) Review: I usually stay clear of compilations sporting the words “Trance” or “Psychedelic” – and U.K. label Transient is notorious for committing just such crimes… But the track list on this looks damn appealing… Ranging from up and coming talents to well established dinosaurs of the UK psytrance scene… Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: Some bands just have a very distinct, unique sound, and Aphid Moon is one of them…The signature sound is very much present in this blasting opener … Actually, it’s jaw-breaking boring at first, but then it slooooooowly, but steadily builds into a massive wall off sound. What an amazing, rolling, long-lived, dark monster of a build-up… Oh yes, this will definitely turn some heads! Ace track! #02: Alright, Error Corrective launches straight into psy-madness a couple of seconds into the track… I have no idea who these newbies are, but they sure know how to make gritty, dirty night time trance… I like the use of crystal clear, yet dark industrial sounds – kinda like a secret lab from a Bond flick, stashed deep inside a mountain… Cool track! #03: Fortu, another newcomer slips us a fiver… Thanks mate! This is another, driving track that builds and builds all the way from start to finish… Actually, the first 3 minutes isn’t all that… But the rest, more than makes up for it… Anyway, it has these amazing synth lines, which will just blow you away… This is to be played very loud, very late at night, in dark, deserted warehouses… This will haunt you! Cool track! #04: More n00bs – this time London gangsters Compressor, with some saw dust… Check out the very familiar melody @ around 3’00 – nice. This is yet another driving little beast of a track… This fits in perfectly after the two building, driving night tracks before it… This continues in the same path, with even more building going on… This is Bob the Builder of UK trance! There is some serious, hard-core tweaking going one here, so this should satisfy any night time acid fan… I like it anyway – cool track! #05: “It could not be repaired or restored” – Not a problem, let Dino remix it then! Yes it’s old-timer Dino Psaras, and he still knows how to make fresh, innovative trance… Remember those hard-hitting horror-elements from some of the old Cydonia tracks? Well, they’re still here – This is somewhat dark and tribal, yet ol’sKo0L funky and twirly with lots of diversity… I really like the percussion work here – oh, and funky ass bass line too… Great track! #06: Voice Of Cod [which has Colin from O.O.O.D. as a member] gives us this jolly old morning-stomper… It kicks of with all kinds of weird animal-samples… Hehe, very funny – someone been sipping on grandpa’s magic monkey juice, eh? This is another cool track, packed with oriental samples, rock solid, full on melodies, funky experiments and Bruce Lee samples… What else do you need? Solid track! #07: Another usual suspect, this time it’s good old Tristan – the renowned morning maestro! This is such an epic track… Well chosen name – this fits right in at dawn… Approaching the full on UK morning sound from a tech’y angle... There is so much going on here – all kinds of happy melodies, change of pace, bouncy bass…Aaah, this is so damn good! Especially the last couple of minutes really tickle me right where I like it! Mmm… Smashing track! #08: Green nun Dick Trevor remixing Mumbo Jumbo… Looks pretty awesome on paper, doesn’t it?! Actually this is a lighter version of the original tune from last year’s ‘Speaking In Tongues’ album… This is kinda like a dogma version – lots of stuff have been peeled off, and then carefully rebuild with lots off different percussion, making it more tribal, thus hanging on to the super cool original melodies. This isn’t all that, but it’s still a cool track! #09: Ahh, just listen to those wonderful artificial drips in the intro… You get an instant flashback to the original, classic Cosmosis/MumboJumbo track from 2000… Has it been 4 years already? Time flies when you’re having fun! ;o) This has been reworked by Transient’s own DJ Kuma and he’s done a pretty good job messing around with the crown jewels… He hasn’t changed too much – the basics are still intact… Slightly reworked melodies and some layers have been replaced by others… This is a good old classic in a new outfit… I just can’t say no to this… Ace track! The UK scene is definitely back with a vengeance… We’ve seen a lot of solid released from the Anglo-Saxons lately, and this one is another stomper showcasing the rich, diverse talent of both well established big names and fresh new comers… What a great mix of new and old, ranging from jolly melodic marvels to dark, disturbed night tracks. You really get you moneys worth here.. I’m guessing we’ll hear a bunch of these tunes on the festivals this summer… There is so much great stuff here. 17. Viktan - Trillenium Format: CD Artist: Viktan Title: Trillenium Label: Sphere Records, U.K. Cat. #: SPHCD006 Year: 2003 Track listing: 01. 07’03” Full Effect 02. 06’59” Virtual Mind 03. 06’45” More Music 04. 06’44” The Truth 05. 06’07” Pump 06. 06’51” Dr Nonono 07. 05’16” Ama - Zone 08. 06’50” Far From Over 09. 06’26” Life Symphony Review: First album from Vik Shefi and A-Tan Injection… A couple of well known Israeli producers… I didn’t know much about them though, but who really cares!?... Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: Yeah well, the title is well chosen. This kicks in immediately… A few horror-movie samples… The good old progressive full on formula… It has some interesting squelching sounds in the middle…Kinda sounds like a pitched up panpipe or something of that sort… Whatever the hell it is, it sounds cool! Also, I like the build-up… The basis of the track is pretty standard – dare I say slightly boring – full on, however all the surrounding effects almost makes it up for that…Average track. #02: The base of the track is nicer here… More layered with percussion… This has a certain funk feel to it… Oh, and it has this really untimely sample about sea turtles… Odd, but the following acid squelch-a-rama hits you like a fist… Nice track! #03: Hip-hop, lounge, funk, jazz… What the fug? I like the odd-ball intro to this track… And it continues to be a weird little piece, but highly original…This could easily be Texas Faggot or similar Finnish freak show-acts… Progressive psy, with all kinds of weird shit sprinkled in between… You have to be really open minded to appreciate this, but most of us are I think… Check out the hilarious saxophone at the end… Hehe… Cool track! #04: So we’re kinda getting back in the saddle now… Heavy, dark, fast-paced psytrance here… But what’s with the samples of cheering crowds? What is this – Scooter? It gets really, really intense for the last couple of minutes though… Nice track! #05: More percussion in this pumping little thing… [Pun intended]… Badabing, Badaboom, this is straight forward psy… Not too complicated, not too boring… Emphasis is on melodies and hard-hitting acid lines… Decent track! #06: My name is Doctor Nonono! Argh, those whiney synths in the beginning bugs me! ;o( The rest of the track is much better… Most melodic piece here and you really bob your head to this one… Driving, epic melodies… Nice track! #07: Floaty start, but soon we are hit by terror-guitars… Yes, they are still fashionable… Actually, they rock! Heavy distorted guitars over heavy distorted melodies – a winning combination! This track was done with Gataka from Sento Sesto, and this is some hardhitting, funky shit… In the best sense of funky shit… Great track! #08: But it’s far from over… You will nod in recognition when you hear this intro… It has distinctive IM – Bust A Move elements… But it’s ok; it’s not too distinct… Gone are the hard, distorted beats, and happy, joyful sounds are in focus... Also present is the usual mishmash of weird sounds and that whiney synth from #06… And it still bugs me! Decent track! #09: The usual slower last track here… This is a wobbly piece, that can’t really decide whether is want to be chill or trance… It’s a hybrid… But that’s cool; it’s a quite ok track! This is a decent album – but nothing more… It has some interesting ideas – but nothing more… Some tracks have potential – but nothing more… There are no amazing tracks, but no outstanding tracks either… It’s not bad at all; it’s just not really good either. I do however like the diversity – all the “chances taken” in #03 for instance is something I really endorse… I can’t however, stretch myself to giving this more than an average score. 5.5/10 Favourites: 3 (!!)7, DeathPosture External links: Ajuca Productions: www.ajucaproductions.co.uk Psyshop: www.psyshop.com (soundclips available) Chaos Unlimited: www.chaosunlimited.co.uk Formatting update 08.03.2006

  19. Wizzy Noise – The Timeline Remixes Format: CDM Artist: Wizzy Noise Title: Timeline Remixes Label: Candyflip Records Cat. #: CD CF08 Year: 2004 Track listing: 01. 07’54” Wizzy Noise – Timeline (Vibrasphere Remix) 02. 08’30” Wizzy Noise – Timeline (Neologic Remix) 03. 07’31” Wizzy Noise – Timeline (Wizzy Noise Remix) 04. 08’04” Wizzy Noise – Timeline (Charasmatix Remix) 05. 08’56” Wizzy Noise – Timeline (Blue Planet Corporation Remix) Review: Candyflip Records is at it again… Now this is really interesting… First off all, Timeline was one of the less appreciated tracks from Wizzy Noise’ 3rd album Elecktro Theater… Well, in my opinion at least… But this CDM certainly makes up for that… The real remarkable thing about this release is the diversity in both “time” and genre… Ranging from 1996-old school goa style to cutting edge neo-full on… From progressive Scandinavian trance, to dark, distorted German techno-trance… We go almost full scale here, and I really, really like that… Let’s get on with the tracks one by one… #01: Ahh… From the first second you just know it’s Vibrasphere… Their trademark progressive Scandinavian sound is present through-out this track… Rickard & Robert have found their niche, and damn, I hope they never stray from that, ‘cause this is so damn good! So clear, so crisp, so delicious! Sounds like a cookie, huh? Well, I’ll have a whole plate! And hey, nothing it wrong with your hearing! [You’ll understand once you’ve listened to the track!] This CDM is worth the money for this track alone! Amazing track! #02: Neologic… More like neurological, ‘cause this could very well affect your nervous system! I’m not the biggest fan of the Israeli neo full-on, but I know a lot of people are… This is however, a definite dance floor burner, and there is nothing wrong with that… Decent track! #03: Wizzy Noise remixing Wizzy Noise… How awkward! When I first saw the track list, I thought “Where the hell is the original? They could have tossed it in!?” This Wizzy Noise remix does however resemble the original from Elecktro Theater quite a bit… So, it’s kinda like it’s here… Let me just stress though, that this IS a reworked version, it’s been polished up, and the melodies are re-vamped! The nifty little acid part in the middle from the original track is also intact… Nice track! #04: Charasmatix, the German tekKno-stomper hits us hard with this brutal assault… Not much is left from the original, though it’s not all gone… It’s dark, it’s hard, it’s percussion driven, it’s for those late nights where you just want some serious bass banging! Decent track! #05: Laaaaadies and gentlemen, let’s take a trip back to 1996! French veterans Blue Planet Corporation delivers an old school melodic walk down memory lane… The magical 303s in this track will send instant shivers down your spine… Pure melodies, pure bliss, pure heaven! Bom Shankar! ;o) Fantastic track! It’s rare to see so much diversity in a remix CD… This is more like a compilation… And that’s a good thing… Surely, there is something here for almost any taste in electronic music. Not much is left from the original track, but this just goes to show how much talent the different producers have… A very interesting release – I wouldn’t miss it! 8/10 Favourites: 1 (!!), 3, 5 (!!)
