Sanaton Records is a small, independent record label from Sweden. Basically it’s run by the Derango guys and in 2005 they released the debut compilation Boldly Audio – a critically acclaimed, low budget underground CD-R release which is already O.O.P. and thus sought after… For the second release, they upped the ante, and Sanatonic Audio is a properly pressed CD with a tracklist that instantly released gazillions of endorphins into my brain when I saw it… I mean, just look at this collection of freaks, perverts and deviants… I’m guessing we’re in for quite a ride here… Let’s pop it on! Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: Donkey Shot – Ode To Fellow Casualties “Errm, have you ever…? […] No thank you, I’ve already eaten!” Donkey Shot is Johan Hellqvist who is also a member of Syzygy who had a track on Boldly Audio. And blimey, this track is pretty damn psychedelic… A gabber’esque bassline is accompanied by some of the most demented melodies I’ve heard in a while… Flaring synth excursions and stabbing acid-lines… Weird, sick and twisted – and as with Finnish stuff, I have a hard time digesting some parts of this tune… It’s very interesting though – and deeply experimental! #02: Procs - Frequenters Swedish producer Mikael Stegman has always been somewhat of a favourite of mine. Ever since I heard the first Procs/Peyote People tracks on Scrambled Heads back in 2001 I’ve been a fan of Mikke’s unique, shroomy forest trance... IMO though, his debut album Stuck In The Oven With Me released in late 2005 by Trishula Records wasn’t up to par with those compilation tracks – it was too dark and despite the album’s über-psychedelic edge, it didn’t grab me as much as I’d hoped for… And yeah, this track is very similar to the dark, introvert style of the album… This is nocturnal, pitch black Helloween trance – that seems to be lacking some of the psychedelia that made me fall in love with Procs in the first place… ;o/ Don’t get me wrong, this is Procs after all – with an extremely well-produced track with a bunch of interesting ideas… So it’s still good – it’s just not as amazing as some of his previous work! #03: Ka-Sol – Just Another Riot Nowadays Ka-Sol is a solo-project by Christer Lundström who has yet to let me down with his extremely rewarding take on maximal psytrance… His compilation tracks on Apsara (Suntrip Records 2005) and Schlabbaduerst 007 were nothing short of amazing, and I can’t wait for the full album coming very soon on Suntrip… And fuck me, if Lulle hasn’t gone and done it again – with this track he steals the picture completely – this is a GARGANTUAN track… Packed to the rim with deranged synth-escapades, wall-to-wall bass devastation and maximal acid tweakage… 100% party music designed to annoy the hell out of neighbours, pets, friends, lovers, family and other non-trance entities… Full-on? This is full-off! Amazing track! #04: Zikdrury – Joconta Stories (Rmx) Zikdrury is Alex Vozikis (Zik/Matutero/Horror Place/Adrenal Glands) & Dennis Patsouros from Greece… The Horror Place track off M.o.E’s Trauma Trance compilation was downright evil and psychopathic… This track here is not *as* gruelling – it’s still pretty damn repulsive though… High-pitched acid-lines in all shapes and forms and some seriously demented melodies that don’t really seem to go anywhere… Sadly! Not a bad track, but especially the first half is too evil for my tastes – luckily it picks up towards the end… #05: Traskel – Unknown Speakers “There are many things even the wisest of us don’t know… We have seen illusion and reality begin to overlap…” Marcus Ryman from Ørebro, Sweden also had a track on Boldly Audio – which I sadly haven’t heard… Anyway, this is another no-bullshit, fast-paced, weird-as-fuck psytrance track… Bubbling with joy and the experimentation is much broader than the previous track… This is rich, shroomy forest trance complete with raven cries, fog horns, assorted string-instruments and high-pitched acid mayhem… Not bad at all! #06: Hallucinogenic Horses – The Stable Of Hooves “My skull is splitting in half…Well, well, well – what have we’ve got here then?” HH is Derango + Emil Wennborn… And yeah, this has Derango written ALL over it… Drenched in acid, synth-experimentation and forest madness, this is easily the most trip friendly tune thus far… Seemingly dark, yet über-trippy forest trance – very rich and very rewarding… The many changes in pace, the horse samples and the scary voice bits all help in adding to the spooky, yet totally mesmerizing atmosphere… Awesome! #07: Derango – Mellan Mitten And here’s Derango on their own. Yeah! Swedish studio wizards Jens Eriksson & Ola Eriksson released their stellar debut album TuMuLT on Inpsyde Media in the fall of 2005. This track pretty much picks up where the previous one left off – this is eclectic, immensely trippy psychedelia… Forest trance if there ever was forest trance – rich, versatile and totally groovy! Man, I’ll never get tired of Derango’s style… Rock on guys – this is the shiznitz! #08: Zalabim – Jiggsaw Tonic “He found about this ritual that would allow you to live forever…” Zalabim is Kim Bernhammar who until now has released his stuff on ResonantEarth.com … What we get here is gritty, relentless, full throttle night trance – absolutely soaked in acid! It’s a regular tweak-o-rama acid-fest of previously unseen proportions… I’m telling you; this would make Phyx run up a tree! Beastly good! #09: Hokus Pokus + The Vicious Spiral – Rusten Svensker “Ind i skogen allihopa!” Hokus Pokus is the moniker of Danish producers Anders Eskildsen & Christian Kaas Andersen (aka Dronebixie) – and they really impressed me with their debut track on the Pavarti compilation Psy Stories. On this track they are joined by none other than Brian Møller who AFAIK hasn’t released anything since his track on the 2004 Gi’iwa compilation Schizm… The track title is Danish and translates into ‘rusty Swede’ and the track also has funny Swedish samples... The music is subtle psychedelia – it’s not as hard-core as some of the previous trax, but believe me – the trip-factor is easily as high. Driving, bubbling oddball psytrance… Very nice and very energetic! #10: Jahbo – Hashed Røllike Jahbo from Denmark is one of the most respected and most productive producers in the Århus-scene… He has released plenty of compilation tracks both under his Jahbo alias, but also as a member of bunch of collaborations – including the infamous Meteloids… He has seldom let me down with his innovative, well-constructed take on hypertrance – and this track is no exception… As its predecessor, this track is less dark than some of the previous tracks – and relies more on studio trickery and shaman pharmaceuticals than bassline… The lengthy Saw II sample seems well-placed and overall I like this track a lot… It’s as mature as it is trip-friendly! What a sweet way to end a truly remarkable compilation. Yes sir! This is the best forest trance compilation since Pavarti’s Psy Stories released in 2005. On this remarkable piece of plastic we get a very fine collection of shroomy, deeply psychedelic forest trance choons… It’s dark too, but not dark in the somewhat ‘predictable’ darkpsy way – this is much more versatile and eventually rewarding… A couple of the first tracks didn’t really rub me the right way, but they are easily outweighed by the rest of the tracks here – they are ALL stand-outs! Something that’s getting increasingly rare with psytrance nowadays… The cover art is extremely simple and doesn’t even sport the name of the compilation, but with it’s forest-like appearance, it totally fits the music… This release is limited to 400 copies and it can only be ordered directly from Sanaton’s website – and believe me, it’s totally worth a purchase! It’s an essential buy for fans of trip-friendly, Swedish forest-trance like Stoneage, Schlabbaduest and so on – and to fans of rich, diverse psychedelia in general… Go get it now – it *will* sell out soon… Enjoy! You're missing the point... With the extraordinary shipping price, it's suddenly not that good a bargain any more... And it's not like the offer alternative (cheaper) methods of shipping... It's 22 euros or nothing... Remember PsySale.com? They offered FREE shipping... A shop also owned by Thomas/Tokyokid... So I'm pretty confident the guy knows exactly what he's doing with the shipping prices - and it sucks! /DP

So where's the extra €16 going? Sure, Psyshop ships in larger quantities than Trance-Shop and have managed to negotiate a better deal with Deutsche Post... But *that* big a difference? I think they are making money off shipping...

Tegma - Around The World In 80 Minutes Hi-res cover: front Artist: Tegma (Sweden) Title: Around The World In 80 Minutes Format: CD (jewel case w/10 page color booklet + DJ slip) Label: Tribal Vision Records (Czech Republic) Cat. #: TVRCD008 Distribution: Psyshop.net Date: 27 March 2006 Track listing: 01. 09’41” Our World 02. 08’08” Desert Tale 03. 09’08” El Mariachi 04. 09’26” Tribal Dancer 05. 02’09” Intermezzo 06. 09’11” Drums Of Africa 07. 09’38” A Night In Cairo 08. 10’13” I Wanna Be A Robostar 09. 11’06” Spooked Review: Multiple audio orgasms… Omar Chelly and Jason Orfanidis from Malmø, Sweden have their third album out… The first one, Encoded/Decoded, was released in 2002 by Digital Structures – and despite repeated attempts I never really got into it… The second one though, 002: Avant.Garde, (released by Candyflip in 2005) was an absolute blast, and with its rich, versatile style of hybrid trance it was one of the best albums of 2005… So yeah, I’ve been looking VERY much forward to this, their third album, which is released by one of my fav’e proggy/crossover labels: Tribal Vision from the Czech Republic… This can *only* be good… Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: Our World [133 BPM] “The world is changed, I feel it in the water, I feel it in the air, I smell it in the air!” The opening track was originally supposed to be an ambient intro but turned into a dance tune… What we get here is a typical Tegma hybrid of epic trance with female singing combined with sharp, metallic electro-hisses - rounded up by a very groovy rhythm section… The Galadriel samples from LOTR have been used before, but it doesn’t matter – they fit this gorgeous track perfectly… An amazing track! #02: Desert Tale [134 BPM] On a trip to Egypt the guys met a certain Paul El-Younani who introduced them to classic Arabic music and recorded some samples for them… They are used in this track, which is destined to kick up some dancefloor desert dust… Cruising at a comfortable speed, this is ethno-flavoured progressive trance not unlike recent Juno Reactor material… The melodic leads are simply gorgeous and the native chanting sends shivers down my spine… Brilliant! #03: El Mariachi [134 BPM] Continuing the trip around the world, the guys turn their focus to Mexico from where inspiration for this tune was found… This track is slightly deeper than its predecessors and the Mexican link isn’t as evident as the African was… In fact, this sounds more Middle Eastern… But who cares, this is more brilliant trance that fuses deep, hypnotic electro-ridden trance with lush world beats + strings and a couple of uplifting, Sasha-like melodic pads… Another distinct Tegma hybrid of VERY high quality… I’m amazed! #04: Tribal Dancer [135 BPM] This track is made from a loop which was originally made for a gig in Germany. It proved so nice that it was developed into a full track – and as the title suggest, this starts out as a tribal stomp-fest – and in keeping with the Tegma-dogma it eventually turns into a hard-hitting, fast-paced hybrid of different genres… Electro-soaked world beats with a technoid twist – or something like that! The bassline is maybe a little predictable at times, but generally this is another extremely well-produced piece of audio bliss… There’s never a dull moment and I’m so impressed by the sheer level of progression here. I mean those lyrics and the melancholy strings… Simply amazing! Versatility if there ever was versatility! #05: Intermezzo This short transition track was actually the intro to Desert Tale, but the guys decided it was time for a short break… Basically it’s lush tribal vibes and plush ethno world sounds… Very nice and deeply atmospheric… It’s a shame it’s so short though… #06: Drums Of Africa [136 BPM] “African music. Try to capture the spirit of African music. African music comes from a much deeper understanding of what music is!” This is a tribute to the ancient drummers of Africa and their impact on music worldwide… Not surprisingly this track has a very impressive array of percussion – it’s packed with drums! Etnoscope meets Safri Duo meets Juno Reactor meets Wizzy Noise meets The Chemical Brothers… The electro influences are still very evident and basically this is a tranced-up stomp-fest of gargantuan dimensions… I cannot even begin to count the layers here…Wow! Un-fucking-believable! #07: A Night In Cairo [132 BPM] This is another track that was conceived from a live loop. This one was made for a gig in Russia and eventually turned into this track… After a lengthy intro we’re exposed to a subtle, yet totally kicking bassline that’s accompanied by tribal percussion + more ethnic chanting and acoustic guitars… This sounds like the lost track from Juno Reactor’s Shango album – and that’s meant as a compliment rather than an accusation of plagiarism… Another VERY lush track that sounds more like ‘music’ than ‘electronic music’… Sweet! #08: I Wanna Be A Robostar [134 BPM] This track is described as a tribute to the robots, and with Kraftwerk-inspired synth-exploration this is easily the most electric track off the album… Obviously we get a lot of technoid sequencing and electro bits here, but also a lot of organic sounding FX… Organic tech-trance? I think that’s the first time I’ve ever described a track like that, but then again, Tegma is very unique… Totally deep and totally pounding… Hell yeah – rocking out with the robots is a trippy adventure…Oh, and I wanna be a robostar too! #09: Spooked [130 BPM] The final tune is another piece that started out as a loop and eventually turned into a full track with the inclusion of 80es style drums… And yeah, this is retro-trance which will instantly teleport you 20 years back in time… Analogue Tegmafied synthpop! Edgy, daring and totally funky… Maybe not the best track here, but what it lacks in dance ability it makes up for in uniqueness… Audio wizardry! And before you know it, the journey is over – ending in exactly like it started… The album come full circle much like Son Kite’s Colours album… Lovely! Holy fucking shanti on a pogo stick! The world is changed! Indeed it is! This magnificent, majestic, grandiose album is definitely going to stir up the trance world… Trust me on this one – this is going to be huuuuuuge! This is easily the best progressive album I’ve heard in 2006! Every single track rocks my socks off and there are literally hundreds of goosebump-moments here… A magnificent journey of epic proportions! Musically it’s a VERY diverse and VERY mature album which proved to be the perfect platform for showcasing the endless talent of Omar and Jason. The production is among the best I’ve heard in years and both the cover art + the informative booklet will serve as benchmarks for future releases… Labels take notice – this is how it’s done! Once again Tribal Vision Records distance themselves from most other labels – this is quality all the way! Eat your hearts out mp3 pirates – this package is miles above the sastisfaction a downloaded version can ever bring… It’s simply amazing! With the reduced BPMs and the added focus on non-trance elements, this album is a radical departure from 002: Avant.Garde and as such it’s more similar to Encoded/Decoded… I absolutely loved 002: Avant.Garde but this is even better… Wow! A very, very strong contender for album of the year! An instant classic and an essential purchase for any serious trance head… Get this, or get left out… Enjoy!
