  1. Another trade went down without any problems whatsover - and once again Rennis hooked me up with some über-rare Japanese goodies... ;o)
  2. Check out the posts above mine, and there's a good chance you'll figure it out...
  3. Ditto! Everything went well - and the packaging was extremely good!
  4. Well yeah, it's not great... But there are a couple of nice tracks... And it's an important part of the evolution of AP... Reason enough for me to include it, in my collection...
  5. Here's my catch for the day: * V/A - G-Spot (Domo Records 2006) http://www.discogs.com/release/630290 * Bluetech - Random Thoughts (Aleph Zero 2006) http://www.discogs.com/release/630299 And a couple of rarities... * Koxbox - Too Pure (Blue Room 1997) http://www.discogs.com/release/76403 (Thanks Devious!) * SFX - Rainbirds (Edel Records 1995) http://www.discogs.com/release/342110 (Thanks Kai-Q!) /DP
  6. Your update still lists the name as June Verdera!?
  7. Haha! Yeah, how did we all miss that... It doesn't get much more trance than making pesto...
  8. Bus - Morebusinesslinkyouthere What an album... When I first listened to it, I was like: What the fuck is up with the boring first part - and the equally thrilling second part?... Very complex and very mature! I totally dig it!
  9. Good stuff Scott... Good stuff! ;o) We're currently working on getting all the ancient reviews back online... It's more than 2.000 review threads, and so far we've managed to parse and clean more than half of that... So yeah, they'll back back online soon...
  10. I voted #7 as well... It's just so fucking hardcore, that I can't believe it... But I love all Schlabb releases (well, I don't own #3, but I'm sure it's awesome too...) /DP
  11. V/A - Hibernation Artist: Various Title: Hibernation Format: CD (jewel case) Label: Iboga Records (Denmark) Cat. #: IBOGACD37 Distribution: twohandsdistribution.com Date: 7 February 2006 Track listing: 01. 10’17” James Monro vs. Dickster – Wash Out (Extended Version) 02. 06’47” Yotopia – New Born 03. 07’25” Morax – Out Of The Blue 04. 08’49” Ace Ventura – R.I.S.E. 05. 08’11” Perfect Stranger - Bliss 06. 09’18” Annarchy & Dickster & George Barker - Eargate 07. 08’34” Sun Control Species – Push Through 08. 06’34” Elegant Universe – Buggy One 09. 08’32” Fish – Gotta Get On Review: Hibernation; awake from… Hibernation is the torpid or resting state in which some animals pass the winter – and I guess it’s true for some trancers too… But now it’s time to get up off our asses, and start shaking… And here’s the cure! Denmark’s leading trance export, Iboga Records, is out with their first compilation of 2006… Just as the Set/4 (Essentials) compilation from 2005, this baby is compiled by Yuli Fershtat of BLT/Perfect Stranger fame… This guy surely knows what he’s doing, and allegedly he spent eight months compiling the tracks… Let’s find out what he came up with… Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: James Monro vs. Dickster – Wash Out (Extended Version) What better way to start this compilation, than with some genuine trance royalty? James Monroe is best known for his involvement in the old school goa projects Technossomy and Kundalini. Dickster is none other than Richard Trevor of GNOTR/Infernal Machine/Bumbling Loons fame… So yeah, we’re dealing with an impressive talent mass here… As you might have guessed, this is rich, smooth, progressive morning trance… Floating, but still very driving – and despite the length, it keeps evolving in a steady pace… Tribal at times, uplifting and fluffy at others… This lengthy track has it all, and in that sense it will no doubt do well in cross-over circles too… A lush track! #02: Yotopia – New Born Portuguese producers Yoni Rimon & Tomer Dayan is known for their uplifting, joyous trance… I only know a couple of their tracks, and so far nothing has impressed me too much… Anyway, that’s about to change coz this track is damn smooth… The lead kick is tribal-slash-metallic and it is completely soaked in groovy reverbs and tight percussion… The high-pitched melodies fit like a glove and correspond well with the cut-up, filtered drum sections… Groovalicious! #03: Morax – Out Of The Blue Michael Reznik from Israel had a real nice, hard-hitting track on the Set/6 compilation… This track however, is less edgy, and pretty much follows in the soft footsteps of the two previous tracks… Not as fluffy, but still… But hey, when the music is this good, I’m not complaining… I especially like the syncopated stabs which correlate with the bassline… Anyway, this is good stuff, without being overly impressive… #04: Ace Ventura – R.I.S.E. Behind the Ace Ventura moniker is Yoni Oshrat who has a full album out in June on Iboga Records… I really, really liked his track on Set/4 and after this brilliant track June suddenly seems very far away… Oh yes, this is a brilliant track – gone is the fluffiness of the previous tracks, and we’re approaching progressive warp speed now… Fast-paced, dancefloor friendly progressive trance at its best… Deeply hypnotic and somewhat minimal in structure but still instantly groovy… Hands down, the best track so far… #05: Perfect Stranger – Bliss Perfect Stranger is an alias of Yuli Fersthat who also compiled this CD… He’s got a full album in the works, and if it’s anything like this and the track on Set/5, I can’t wait… I know I say that a lot when it comes to Iboga Records, but hey – that’s just the way it is! Anyway, this track picks up where the previous one left off… So, what we get here is action packed, dancefloor friendly progressive trance… Twirling melodies and peaking rhythms… Nicey nice! #06: Annarchy & Dickster & George Barker – Eargate “That’s the way it’s supposed to be!” On the 2006 Liquid&Solid compilation Infinity, legendary producer and green nun Richard Trevor was in cahoots with Anna Hefetz… That resulted in a brilliant morning tune… Now they are joined by another legend - George Barker of Slinky Wizard fame! Daaaamn, the celebs are really rubbing shoulders on this piece of plastic! Hell, I’m impressed! What we get here, is a fine example of extremely well-produced progressive morning trance with a few unsuspected twists and turns… This is very melodic and uplifting… Very head bop friendly and funkier than a James Brown tune… Kick-ass track! #07: Sun Control Species – Push Through I didn’t really like Australian producer Andrew Davidson’s take on the Antix remix album, but he did good when he remixed FREq on Set/6…This track is somewhere in the middle of those tracks… It doesn’t really stand out, but it’s not bad either… The intro is maybe a little too long and I think the middle passage is a little too boring… But hey, there are good parts too, and I dig the tight tribal percussion… But overall speaking, this isn’t a stand-out track… #08: Elegant Universe – Buggy One Elegant Universe is a new collaboration between the legendary Israeli producer Miki Litvak (Domestic, Shidapu) and a guy called Amir Hardon… Miki’s background as a full-on producer shines through here, as this is easily one of the tranciest tunes here… Tied to a progressive ground pillar, this is deeply melodic morning trance – which crosses well over into club territory. Immensely uplifting! Yeah, this is breakfast music – it’s like being served a plate with 10 cups of coffee… And 15 slices of cheese! And by using that analogy, you’ve probably guessed that I don’t like this track as much as I’d hoped for… It’s too clubby I’m afraid! #09: Fish – Gotta Get On Yuli makes another appearance here – this time in cahoots with DJ Zombie… And I’m happy to confirm, that all cheddar is long gone – this is banging morning trance! Easily the fastest track here, this track fuses psytrance with progressive rhythms – and the result is brilliant… Tight, crisp and ripe… Nice! I feel like a broken record here, but… Iboga Records never lets us down with their top drawer releases – and whilst this perhaps isn’t their best release recently, is certainly is fine… There are no bad tracks here, and the stand-out tracks outweigh the less-good tracks easily… Yuli’s track selection is tight as always and his flow is unsurpassed… I really enjoyed the output of some of the old, legendary UK producers and the new Yuli project sounds very promising… The cover art is also classy and the only minor gripe I have, is that the track positioning seems a little off during the last three tracks… I know this is supposed to be compilation without skips between the tracks, but it seems my copy changes tracks five seconds early… Ah, who cares, this is still a solid Iboga compilation and a safe purchase for fans of progressive morning trance… Enjoy! 12. Shouldn't you be writing insight full technical articles by now?
  13. Really? That's strange... My copy has the CD-tray... It's just a regular digipack... Oh, and I found a couple of more irrgular CD cases: * Deep Dive Corp - Beware Of Fake Gurus (Jubilee Records 2002) http://www.discogs.com/release/283246 - I dunno about you, but I never adjusted to the super jewel box... It's a bitch to open, and it when I worked in a record store we cursed these boxes to hell... Good thing they never really caught on... * Terra Nine - Axiom Remixes (Tempest Recordings 2003) http://www.discogs.com/release/498828 - What is this - a slim DVD cover in CD size? It looks strangely home made... /DP
  14. la.Nebuleuse - Serial Killah Hi-res cover: front + back Artist: la.Nebuleuse (The Netherlands) Title: Serial Killah Format: CD (jewel case) Label: Galactic Federation Media (The Netherlands) Cat. #: GFMCD02 Distribution: Wirikuta Date: 9 February 2006 Track listing: 01. 07’21” Smoking Beat 02. 08’28” The Factory 03. 07’39” Technical Knock Out 04. 06’22” Me Inde Psylight District 05. 08’16” Ask Ya Mama What I Have Done 2 The Track 06. 08’47” Spanked & Spanked 07. 05’16” Valentine’s Massacre 08. 06’48” Void The Molecular 09. 06’01” S-J 10. 07’39” Best Of The Block 11. 05’55” La Racaille la.Nebuleuse… Yeah .m3u-playlist: http://tinyurl.com/j4akb (all tracks!) Review: Brain spanking neuro therapy! When Dutch producer, DJ and Galactic Federation Media label A&R le.Nebuleuse released his debut album Voodoo: Nebz Traxxx 04 in the summer of 2004 it didn’t cause much riot… Not in these latitudes at least… It was an ok album I guess, it just kinda drowned in the midst of better releases… Now he’s back with his second album, and I’ve got a feeling his second coming is gonna cause a much bigger riot… Let’s find out… Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: Smoking Beat [148 BPM] The opening track starts with a syncopated, erratic beat… Slow-burning and groovy as hell! The many Travolta-samples don’t annoy me at all... On the contrary, they seem to be a vital part of this track’s progressive atmosphere… It’s not a party track at all – it’s groovy, mysterious home listening track… And a damn good one too! #02: The Factory [150 BPM] “The reason for the death of the football hooligans, some people say, was either the rise of the ecstasy tablet and of ‘rave culture’, or perhaps that they, they thugs, simply got bored…” The eerie atmosphere is still somewhat intact, but the basslines is much more banging now… Dark, gritty, pounding night trance, not unlike Xenomorph or Penta… Dark, yet with a certain level of comic relief… Oh yes, this is ripe of the bone complex darkpsy… Brilliant! #03: Technical Knock Out [146 BPM] In keeping with the comic relief theme, this track starts with a cheesy poodle-rock sample apparently recorded straight from radio… Haha! It’s soon fades out and we’re introduced to some proper head-bang friendly bass mayhem… Though the previous track was faster BPM-wise, this seems much more chaotic… Maybe it’s the irregular beats, but somehow this complexity doesn’t go down as well with me, as the previous two tracks did… So yeah, as there are several nice passages here, I’m generally having a problem with the off-key kick here… #04: Me Inde Psylight District [148 BPM] “I made it – you eat it! […] Come quietly or there will be trouble… Ahrr, fuck you!” I have no idea what the first two words of the title means – but the last two are obviously a clever play on words regarding the Red Light District of Amsterdam… And judging by this track, the Psylight District seems like a pretty wicked place… This is evil, haunting night trance – with more than a couple of nightmarish passages and high-pitched acid-stabs… It’s not all spooky though – and the funny samples and oddball ideas helps in making this one hell of an experience… Just like the best Penta tracks, this is an excellent tune… Only gripe, is that it’s too short… ;o/ #05: Ask Ya Mama What I Have Done 2 The Track [150 BPM] The intro, to what might possibly be the worst track name in recorded history, is a sound collage of cut-up voice samples treated with some kind of echo-filter… Soon after we’re exposed to a bassline much crisper than the previous tracks… The break and the oddball way out of it, is very original – if only the rest of the track was just as cool… Again, the mayhem level is extreme – and large parts of this track are just too damn hectic for my liking… It’s like we’re getting too much of a good thing, and eventually this track suffocates in its own success… What a shame! #06: Spanked & Spanked [148 BPM] Luckily track # 6 comes along and saves the day… Oh yeah, this is much better – and much more clearly defined horror trance… The dark, brutal beats are accompanied by murky, medieval melodies and a few, selected acid-lines… Nothing too complex – so this comes as a welcomed change after the previous bombardment… Solid tunage here – though nothing to get overly excited about… Spank you! #07: Valentine’s Massacre [148 BPM] “…These self-transforming machine elf creatures were speaking in some kind of coloured language” The tragic events hinted in the track title seem crystal clear when listening to this sonic mayhem of epic proportions… Unlike some of the previous ventures into complexity, I really, really enjoy this one… It’s a tribal excursion into multi-layered, fragmented psytrance… Very trip-friendly in all its weird glory… Like some kinda of bizarre hybrid between Procs and Derango… I love it! I wish it was much longer… #08: Void The Molecular [148 BPM] Up next is perhaps the creepiest tune of the album… Sure, it starts as an atmospheric, thrilling journey into paranoiac horror-trance… But if you thought that was scary, just wait a couple of minutes until the track really takes off… Fuck me, this has got to be some of the spookiest stuff I’ve heard in a while… Fast-paced, eclectic, über-dark PsyTekk with noize, industrial and horror-trance stuffed up its ass… This is eeeeevil stuff! Chainsaw trance which would work well as a soundtrack to the upcoming Saw III movie… Blimey! Whereas I appreciate the effort, this is simply too hardcore for my taste… #09: S-J [146 BPM] In many ways, this track is equally hardcore – it’s just done in a much less gut-wrenching manner… Nice! We’re still dealing in very murky darkpsy, but this track ventures well into electro/space-dub territory too - which is a welcomed change, despite its bleak and monotonous appearance… I like it, but it’s doesn’t stand out in any way… #10: Best Of The Block [148 BPM] I’m only guessing, but something tells me that le.Nebuleuse was listening to a lot of Spirallianz/Midi Miliz/The Delta before composing this track… This is pretty bleak, stripped-down tech-trance with a pinch of Asian flavour… Banging, driving, focussed music – that does not pretend to be anything else than what it is… In that sense I like it, though it’s maybe a tad on the less-eventful side of things… #11: La Racaille la.Nebuleuse… Yeah [148 BPM] Were you expecting an experimental downbeat tune to finish the album? Think again! Sure, this is experimental, but there is nothing downbeat about it… This is flaring, acid-ridden, propane-injected psytrance – packed to the rim with twirling, uplifting melodies and pounding basslines… That’s right – this is the Nebuleuse rabble! Although obviously too short, this is a fine way to close this album… Well, I must say that I’m pleasantly surprised by this album which is easily much more mature than the first album was…. In many ways! Although the ground pillar is dark psytrance, this album has links to a variety of musical sub-genres… It’s experimental like Kemic-Al, funny like Penta, acid-driven like Phyx, dark like Xenormorph and trip-friendly like Derango… It’s the full package really, and where some of the tracks gets a little too complex for my tastes, they are easily outweighed by the brilliant stand-out tracks I’ve listed below… The cover art is not gonna win any layout awards, but it’s quite ok – and stands out from the crowd nicely… So, all in all, this is indeed a nice album… Much more mature than I could have hoped for, and I’m sure it’ll appeal to a large crowd of nocturnal psytrancers… It sure deserves that! So, if you’re into perverted, cross-over mayhem, I’d strongly recommend this album… Enjoy! 15. You know, those irregular casings that 'stick out' on your shelf next to all the streamlined jewel cases and digipacks... List 'em in this thread.. I'll go first: * Metalogic - Magnetic Influence (Boshke Beats 2005) http://www.discogs.com/release/469743 - Whereas Inga Burina's artwork is stunning, this cardboard thing is highly irregular * Montauk P - Def=Lim (Blue Room Released 1998) http://www.discogs.com/release/68914 - I like this gatefold thing - but it's a weird format nevertheless * Infected Mushroom - Cities Of The Future (BNE 2004) http://www.discogs.com/release/301907 - What, is BNE using Japanese measures on their releases now? And that device that holds the CD is bound to break... Good thing I never, ever listen to this CD... * V/A - Voojoo Rituals (Hovem Olam 2000) http://www.discogs.com/release/333145 - I kinda like the push-out device, but it looks crap on the CD shelf... * Kiyoshi Izumi - Protocol A (Peace Records 2004) http://www.discogs.com/release/440477 * Phi - Phinalizer (ELF Music 2004) http://www.discogs.com/release/342410 - Japanese digipacks are just very... Square! * Sub6 - Ra He'ya (HOM-Mega 2004) http://www.discogs.com/release/267367 - Classy yes, but it's way too thin to look good on the shelf - and it will break with time... Same reason why I keep my copy sealed... * V/A - Re:Evolution Vol. 2 - Time (Flying Rhino 1999) http://www.discogs.com/release/153754 - This heavy set cardboard box is not only ugly, it has no purpose either... * V/A - Sacred Sites (RTTS 1997) http://www.discogs.com/release/168074 - Now this is a neat digipack... If only it was regulation size... * V/A - Psychedelic Demons 2 (Zoomshot 1999) http://www.discogs.com/release/168078 - Now the pull-out idea is good, if only they made it work... It's a bitch to open my copy... * V/A - Fragile Life (Cosmicleaf 2005) http://www.discogs.com/release/478228 - Why put a normal audio CD in a DVD case? What's the frigging point? ^ A few selected examples from my collection... Feel free to add 'bastard releases' from your collection... Pics would be nice, but I guess when I was too lazy to do it myself, I should just STFU... /DP

  18. la.Nebuleuse - Serial Killah ^ some real Penta-like gems to be found in this album...
  19. Fair enough... Well, consider it an investment - maybe you strike gold, maybe not... How many records is it - and how much was the shipping from the UK? (I'm guessing you won't tell us how much you paid for the lot!?) /DP
  20. Now go change your pants... I'm sure you creamed them when those crates arrived?
  21. HOLY cArp! What is all that? Name a couple... It can't all be psy/goa can it? Spill it!
