  6. V/A - Crazy Goblins & Wicked Pixies Hi-res: cover Artist: Various Title: Crazy Goblins & Wicked Pixies Format: CD (jewel case) Label: Trishula Records (Germany) Cat. #: TRISHCD005 Distribution: Arabesque Date: 29 August 2005 Track listing: 01. 06’57” Claw – Disturbed Galaxy 02. 09’10” Electrypnose - Oscillate 03. 07’44” Dejan – Dennis Kill The Dentist 04. 07’23” The Many Faces vs. Electrypnose – Testicule Killer 05. 09’09” Polyphonia – Babel Tower 06. 06’05” The Many Faces – Kill Bill Gate 07. 09’03” Mubali – Information Insemination 08. 07’41” Metallaxis – Noise Reduction (Polyphonia Rmx) 09. 08’01” Savage Scream – Rotting Side 10. 07’23” Syntrax - Reanimator Review: Carpe noctum! Although Trishula Records from Germany is not even one year old, they’ve already placed themselves as one of the leading outfits releasing the darker sides of psytrance… The quality level has been high since the beginning and this has fast become a benchmark label… This is the fifth release following the brilliant debut album Evil Inside by Psyfactor – and judging by the track list and the BPM count I’m guessing we’re in for quite a ride here… Get ready to get butt-fucked by a goblin and blown by a pixie… Let’s begin the party – Trishula style! Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: Claw – Disturbed Galaxy [148 BPM] Kemic-Al is from Malta – and Claw is from Cyprus… Do you see a pattern here? I do – evil lurks in those Mediterranean islands… Anyway this guy (Charalambos Pieris) really impressed me with his track on the Alien FM compilation released by Dropout Productions earlier this year… That was a very well-produced, dynamic track… And so is this! The bassline sounds a bit blunt at first, but you quickly forget about that with all the madness that goes on in this track… Magical, eerie melodies surrounded by squelching acid-lines and twisted night-time trickery… Take that horn-FX for instance – it’s scary as hell… This guy knows his shit! A brilliant track! #02: Electrypnose – Oscillate [148 BPM] Ahh – good old Vince le Barde… This productive Swiss magician has fast become one of my fav’e producers within this style of psytrance… His debut album Brain Stretching released on ResonantEarth.com is still hot as hell and most of his recent compilation tracks are brilliant… This is hard-hitting, relentless psytrance… Pounding away at an incredible pace with enough energy to supply a small Swiss village with power… As always with this guy, we’re exposed to a very unique style – seemingly introvert and a little minimal. But listen closer and you’ll find many nifty little surprises… Yeah, this is trippy as hell – those oscillating acid-bits are just what the doctor ordered! ;o) #03: Dejan – Dennis Kill The Dentist [150 BPM] “Cheesy crust special with extra cheese and crusty cheese on the side!” Blimey – that’s a lot of cheese! But rest assured, there’s nothing cheesy about this track! Dejan Mihailovic is a French producer and I’ve liked his stuff so far… Very dark, yet still psychedelic… Haven’t we all secretly dreamt about killing our dentist? I know I have – and all indications show that Dennis feels the same way… As with older Dejan tracks, this is extremely dark and incredibly fast… This baby is blasting away at 150 beats per minute – causing absolute mayhem… There’s a demented melodic lead here that you’ll either love or hate… Personally I hate it, but the good news is that it’s not there for long… The acid-bits however tickle me just right – also the atmospheric pads in the background are very well-executed… Oh, and the oddball kiddie samples are hilarious… A nice track regardless of the flaws… #04: The Many Faces vs. Electrypnose – Testicule Killer [150 BPM] The Many Faces are Dejan again + his fellow countryman Karim Gressier – they are joined by Vince le Barde who also made a previous appearance on this compilation… Looks like a match made in heaven? On this track we’re exposed to the hard-hitting style of the French baguette – and Vince has brought the tasty Swiss chocolate… Yeah – this is another full-blown night-time track, though I feel it somehow lacks a well-defined sense of direction… Don’t get me wrong, but maybe three guys working on one track is one too many? I don’t know! There certainly are good elements in this track - I would just like to have seen them being carried all the way out… A good track, but not a stand-out for me… #05: Polyphonia – Babel Tower [148 BPM] Polyphonia is Romolo Cherie from Greece and AFAIK this is his debut release… The intro is pretty cool here with the changes in pace and the sudden explosion of energy… The track itself is of a more monotonous nature – and though it’s not entirely minimal, there is a long stretch in the first half of the track that tends to be a little boring… But luckily it picks up for the second half of the track… But still, this is just a little too numb for my taste… Also I’m not too thrilled about the demented, whining noise that is present throughout the track… A decent track that I tend to skip… #06: The Many Faces – Kill Bill Gate [150 BPM] “Come back and see me. I’m always here. And everywhere!” Here’s another track by the French duo consisting of Karim Gressier and Dejan Mihailovic… The title is beyond me – obviously it’s a play on words on Kill Bill/Bill Gates, but why leave out the S? Are you guys afraid of evil Micro$oft henchmen? Anyway, this is another extremely bad-ass track – riddled with acid-lines and spooky FX designed to freak you out… Just listen to the voice-samples which are well-fitting… The bass goes a bit blunt for a while, but the surroundings more than make up for that… This is some dark, trippy shit… I like it! #07: Mubali – Information Insemination [148 BPM] Information Inforshmation... Greg Farley had a track on Trishula’s Mushy Mystery compilation which was a little too unfocussed for my taste – and this starts out kinda wobbly too… It’s ultra-hard, almost industrial in appearance – with gritty, distorted beats… The feather-light robotic bleeps and blobs are a striking contrast though, but somehow I still feel that the first half of this track lacks psychedelia… The trip-factor is important for me, but Greg saves the day with the last half here – which is much trippier… Synth-galore and acid-overdrive! This one will kick up some dust on the dance floors for sure… Especially the second half which is just brilliant! #08: Metallaxis – Noise Reduction (Polyphonia Rmx) [148 BPM] “Am I dreaming? Is this palace real or just a hallucination?” Metallaxis from Greece is a relatively blank page to me – I know this guy (?) had a track on the Nabi compilation Psychiatric Hospital Ahead, but I haven’t heard that one… Anyway, this is remixed by fellow Greek producer Polyphonia whom we encountered earlier… And damn, these guys are talented – this track is very, very psychedelic… Very forest-like and shroom-friendly – A cross between the style you’d expect from Parvati and Schlabbaduerst… I bet the goblins and pixies are going at it now… A stellar track! #09: Savage Scream – Rotting Side [148 BPM] Savage Scream is Mizuki Nishimata from Japan and he likes it hardcore and extremely fast… This is actually one of his slower tracks… Anyway, this is still very dark and introvert… Horror-trance to be played during the darkest hours of the night… But – despite it being grim, this track also has a good portion of experimentation… I really like the lengthy break-down which will cause absolute havoc on a darkened dancefloor… People will start screaming in horror when the bassline finally returns! …Spooky shit! And a great track! #10: Syntrax – Reanimator [147 BPM] Aviran Deree is a newbie producer from Israel – and he gets to finish the show here… And wow – check out the classy classical intro… Highly original stuff here! The track itself is full-power no-questions-asked hyper-trance – galloping away like there’s no tomorrow… I dig the sharp, stabbing noises – it feels like they go straight into your heart… And there’s enough acid here to entertain a grumpy old trancer like me… It’s a regular squelch-fest – holy shit it’s awesome! What a gargantuan track – I couldn’t think of a better way to end this compilation… Trishula has pulled it off again! The gore-heads from Germany has released another hardcore motherfucker of a compilation – this is just as ill disposed as Ignis Fatuus and Mushy Mystery were… Relentless, sinister, murky-as-hell hyper-trance to be played during the darkest hours of the night – and definitely not for people with heart-troubles… Consider that a warning! As always with Trishula the quality level is impressive. There are no bad tracks here and there are only a couple of tracks that doesn’t tickle my nuts the way they are supposed to… The artwork isn’t really my cup of chai, but it’s a step in the right direction from the Psyfactor cover… Oh, and I noticed how the spine of the jewel case incorrectly reads ‘Crazy Gnomes & Wicked Pixies’… Ahh well, it’s an honest mistake… Gnome ~ Goblin… I guess they are somewhat similar – and frankly, who gives a shit!? The music is the important thing here – and the music is great! Maybe not as much as home-listening – this needs to be played on big-ass PA… Fans of the spooky Trishula style will most definitely enjoy this compilation – as will fans of dark psytrance in general… Enjoy! 7. Cool - I just read the whole thing (well, skimmed a few parts, but..) and I must say that was a very interested read... Recommended! How'd you do Tracy - if you don't mind me asking? I'm sorry I missed the survey when you first posted it here - I guess I was busy with my own dissertation at the time... /DP
  8. Classics man... Good call! Oh, and I'm glad you have your original avatar back... ;o) /DP
  9. Well - I went clubbing constantly in 1999... All over London - but I didn't go to many hard-house or psy-events, as my mates weren't really into that... But damn, trying to think of names now is harder than I thought... There were some big ass gay-clubs that were pretty cool... Heaven was it? I remember MOS being a total blast too back then... The Fridge was nice too... Hannover Grand... There was something in Brixton too... Camden of course... Argh, I can't remember the names... Too many druqcks... Hehe... /DP
  10. Guys, guys... First and foremost let me stress how cool I think your work is... Ripping, encoding, cutting and uploading samples must be a lenghty job - respect! But - are you sure rapidshare.de is the way to go about it? I mean, that site was designed for larger files for download - not live streaming... On every track you have to wait something like 10-20-30 seconds for your download-link... Also there is a traffic-limit, enabling you from accessing rapidshare.de for an hour if you've been at it a lot (say reading 3-4-5 reviews within the same hour...) I'm no expert in these matters, but surely there must be sites out there which would do the trick better than this one? I mean, it's not like these short samples are gonna generate huge amounts of traffic anyway... So maybe find some server with direct access to the files? Thanks... /DP
  11. Inspired by the thread on hard house, I'm currently spinning CD1 of this CD: V/A - Fist - The Second Coming This Torture Garden Records compilation is an absolute classic for me... Reminds me of the wonderful times I had living and partying in London in 1999... This stretch of tracks sounds as fresh as they did back then: Zone One - Eye Believe You Do Fierce Base - I Thank You Elvis Ironik - Slave Ramirez - Chupa Chupa (DJ Fabbri Mix) Awesome stuff! /DP
  12. I lived in London in 1999 and that year I got really into hard house... I was into goa/psy for a good period before that, but for six months in 1999 it was all about hard house for me... Some of my fav'e records are from Torture Garden Records: * V/A - Fist - The Second Coming http://www.discogs.com/release/178734 * V/A - Extreme Clubbing 2 http://www.discogs.com/release/177276 I bought several other CDs in the same style in the years to follow, but somehow they never seemed to do it for me as much as the two above-mentioned... I still put these on every now and then and reminisce about the good old days of my London hard house adventures... /DP
  13. You're right man... Stabbing Westward are pretty cool... And they were doing this thing way before the nu-metal vibe got popular... I play the single Save Yourself every now and again... Any other highlights you want to mention - if so, I'm all ears! /DP
  14. Earlier I was going thru some mash-ups for use in my DJ set... 98% of what I've heard is crap, but there are a couple of good ones that I know will work with my crowd: Daft Queen - Another One Bites Da Funk Fatboy Slim Vs. Daft Punk - Around The World & Praise You Kid Rock vs. Metallica - American Bad Ass /DP
  15. No... Twisted is alive and kicking... If you read Jikkenteki's post carefully, he said that the collapse of the distributor nearly killed Twisted... Just nearly! /DP
  16. D:A:D - Good Clean Family Entertainment You Can Trust
  17. Yeah, I am happy about that one... I'm not the lucky owner of TTT CD 001, TTT CD 001.5 and TTT CD 002... I got all these from trades with Jikkenteki - my connection in Japan... All brand-spanking new and unplayed copies! He supplies me with rare Japanese stuff and I try to get him rare European stuff... It's all fine and dandy... ;o) Now I'm working on completing my TTT CD collection, but the remaining two are not gonna be easy - nor cheap... /DP

  19. V/A – Buckle Up Vol. 2 (The Trancelucent Garage) Hi-res cover: front + back Artist: Various Title: Buckle Up vol. 2 (The Trancelucent Garage) Format: CD (jewel case) Label: Tranceclucent Productions (Israel) Cat. #: TPCDIL-012 Distribution: Boa Distribution Date: July 2005 Track listing: 01. 08’08” System Nipel – Russian Gangsters 02. 06’51” Cosmic Tone - Element 03. 07’20” Electro Sun – Demons Halo 04. 07’35” Aquatica – Skydance (Rmx) 05. 07’56” The Misted Muppet – Snarling Zraw 06. 08’15” Noga - Acceleration 07. 07’38” Etic – 1 Day 08. 06’53” SystemiC - Systec 09. 06’53” Noga vs. Solar System – Above The Ground .m3u-playlist: http://tinyurl.com/c26vn (all tracks!) Review: Safety first! Trancelucent Productions from Israel is a funny label really – they’ve released some really, really cool CDs like the brilliant album From The Legend by The Misted Muppet + the two brilliant Etic albums Touch Ups and the recent Feedback… They are all cracking artist albums that I really enjoy – but unfortunately Trancelucent also has a tendency to release really crappy stuff… Like the Electro Sun album and the Cyberdelica compilation – and now this second Buckle Up compilation…The first one was released in 2003 and had a couple of good tracks – but the rest were forgettable… Now let’s hope this one is better… Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: System Nipel – Russian Gangsters The compilation is kicked into gear by a couple of Russian gangsters in Israel: Ruby Yakubov & Anton Lunev… And this track is pretty much recycling… Boring neo full-on pads, ‘the DJs took pills to stay awake and play for seven days’ samples and predictable basslines… I have to give credit where credit is due though: I do like some of the melodic pads here – too bad it’s soaked in cheese… I mean – just listen to the breezy ‘I can feel it’ samples… Too much cheddar will make you… Puuuuuuke! #02: Cosmic Tone – Element “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the tunnel. I’m your DJ! And I’m gonna take you on a tour of the twelve inch. We’re gonna start here with the kick and the bass. Are you with me? Here we go! There are many elements of a track – I like it all!” It’s been a while since I’ve last heard anything from Israeli producer Roei Nissan – he’s a productive guy and has been involved in loads of releases already… As you might have guessed, this is very much uplifting morning trance… Full-on in nature, but not as fluffy as the previous track… Well, don’t get me wrong – we’re still very much on the lighter side of the spectre here, and the lengthy Music Instructor-like sample in the middle of the track totally ruins it for me… I would have absolutely loved this track when I was 13 – but I’m twice that now, and kiddie stuff like this doesn’t do it for me any more… Avoid! #03: Electro Sun – Demons Halo Here’s a new track by the young producer Nadav Elkayam… He released his debut album Pure Blue earlier this year and I only liked a few tracks from there… This is more full-on, but with a little more edge this time… Finally! The offbeat experimentation is this track is reminiscent of old Infected Mushroom and its pretty good – without being revolutionary… This is an ‘ok’ track… But ok doesn’t cut it in my book I’m afraid… #04: Aquatica – Skydance (Rmx) My last encounter with Aquatica (Elad Asi) was on the Cyberdelica compilation released by Trancelucent last year… That track was edgy full-on and was actually pretty good… And sure enough, this is pretty good too… We’re still in Israeli full-on world, but this isn’t as fluffy as some of the previous tracks… I’m guessing this is a remix to an older Aquatica track – whatever it is it’s the best track on this compilation so far… And that’s not saying much! #05: The Misted Muppet – Snarling Zraw Ahh – the muppets! Or rather just one muppet now, as Tal Hassidi left the band and it’s Dagan Israeli on his own… But the MM touch is indeed intact here – from the very first second the trademark sound is present – medieval intro complete with cembalo and the works… Very similar to the sound of the brilliant debut album From The Legend released last year – and yeah, that formula still works for me, and this is a stand-out track here… Multi-layered, darkish medieval full-on… Also the what-the-fuck-happened-to-my-speakers FX used towards the end of the track is sweet… A delicious track! #06: Noga – Acceleration The stuff I’ve heard from Noga Sudai has been in the better end of the full-on scale – I like his Etic-like progressive approach to full-on… And sure enough – this is pretty good too… That being said, this is still pretty fluffy, but hey – fluffy in a good way… This is very melodic, simple morning trance… The little kicks here are groovy and the general feel is enjoyable… Nice, but forgettable… #07: Etic – 1 Day “Why would I lie to you?... If that’s what you wanna do, you should do it!” When I looked at the tracklist of this compilation, I was only excited about the MM and the Etic tracks… Etay Harari has released two brilliant albums on Trancelucent and I really like his hybrid between progressive and full-on… This is just that – a funky number somewhere in between… Long, atmospheric, murky pads in the background – and a progressive rhythm-section with all kinds of spacy FX sprinkled all over the place… Another job well done by Etay… Another stand-out track! #08: SystemiC – Systec Dekel Maman (SystemiC) & Itay Milgrom (Synth Tec) also had a track on the Afula On compilation released by Com.Pact in 2004 – however this is the first time I hear their work… This is groovy full-on… Reminiscent of Sub6 and older Infected Mushroom – and it actually sounds pretty nice, though not particularly original… And that’s sad really, as these guys clearly have talent… The break-down bit is sweet indeed – fits the track perfectly… But still… #09: Noga vs. Solar System – Above The Ground “Why do I have to be humiliated in front of my guests by one of my own servants? The more license I allow you the more you take! If his grace is not satisfied with me he can dismiss me!” Noga Sudai is back for the last track – now in cahoots with Lior Lahav… They open up the track with a voice sample from some flick about Mozart – and they launch straight into a melodic, full-on piece… I like the harmonies here and the percussion with hints of progressive rhythms… Yeah, this is not a bad way to end this compilation at all, but I could have been without the cheesy female singing or moaning or whatever it is…*Sigh* Well, IMO there’s only two stand-out tracks – the rest is simply too generic for my tastes… And two out of 9 is simply not enough for me to validate a purchase of a compilation… Of course this is a matter of taste and fans of the new Israeli full-on sound will have a field trip with this one… Others should probably take a listen before buying it… But enough common sense lessons for now! A lot has been said about the controversial cover-art here – most people seem to dislike it… Again, I tend to disagree… Frankly I can’t get worked up about this – it’s obviously a piss-take on behalf of the Trancelucent crew – and I smiled the first time I saw it… I like it much more than say the cover of the newest Etic album… At least this one doesn’t try to hide anything… Anyway, I didn’t really like this one – but I haven’t given up on Trancelucent… How could I with the amazing Etic album released simultaneously with this one? 20. Well, it's packed to the rim with old school classics for starters... And about the price - we've been over this before man... Supply and demand! And if you don't think it's good, why do you have it on your wantlist? It's definitely worth it... I gave it a couple of spins last night, and I was rocking in my living room like a madman... ;o) /DP
  21. Good times, good times...
  22. Sweet compilation - I was just spinning that yesterday... Where'd you find it? Hope you didn't have to pay too much for it? I got mine for less than $10
  23. I'll have a review up this week... ;o)
  24. Yeah me too... Reminds me of the set you played @ Middle Earth Jannik - superb selection and brilliant mixing skills... Well done!
