Hehe... Well, some day perhaps? You know - adding stuff to Discogs is just ONE hard pull - but then it's there forever and you only need to add the new stuff you get... I like it a lot - and have never looked back... And yeah - same with that India-story we never got... Ah well, I'll ask you about it when I meet you next year in Spain... ;o) /DP

Well Scott, I'm really sorry to hear that my reviews no longer does anything for you... You picky bastard! Hehe... Nah man, it's all good... I think you're addressing a vital issue here - I *do* have very broad tastes when it comes to music. I'll not go as far as calling it a problem - 'cause how can it be a problem, that I have a very broad taste? It's a blessing, and I like the fact that I can get jiggy with both old school goa, smooth progressive trance, deep dark hypertrance and soothing ambient - and everything in between... The only style I don't really like it neo full-on, and that's why I've conveniently "filtered" those labels - or simply tell it straight in those reviews... That being said, I'm still happy that you tend to like my format - you know, you're still a major inspiration for me review-wise... I still rate you as one of my all-time reviewers outhere and your taste seldom dissapoints me... About me putting a new aesthetic on reviews - deviating from the original intent... Well, I dunno about that... I'm not a professional.. I'm just your average guy who likes to write about music, and with my reviews I hope I provide some kind of service towards people going through the vast amount of new releases... But please remember that I do this for free... Yeah - different people different strokes... My review format has been develouped and finetuned over the years... And now I have a format that most people to like, and I'm pretty happy with it myself too... ;o) Oh, and thumbs up for your reviews too Seraph... Good stuff! Btw - totally off-topic: You must have a MASSIVE collection... Why don't you have it listed on Discogs? I'd love to see it... Do you have some kind of list? Pix? Ahh Moni - you're the sweetest thing around... Thank you very much for your kind words... I cannot begin to express how happy that post made me feel... Positive feedback like yours makes it all worthwhile - and that's exactly why I spend hours and hours infront of the computer writing... To please people... Thx! /DP

Nice pics man... So many beautiful people! ;o)

That needed to be said Rah - thank you! I agree with you... I've been reading this thread since it got posted, and wondered if I should reply or not... I'm pretty sure I'm one of the dreaded reviewers you all refer to, so I think I better reply here... Yes I get free CDs - and yes, I get a lot of free CDs - and that's awesome! But I do put a lot of work into my reviews - without getting paid. It can take anywhere from 1 to 5-6 hours to write a decent review - if I spent that time working, I could by loads more CDs than just one... So why do I do it? There are several reasons: #1. I like it... I somehow relax while I sit in front of my computer with my headphones on, trying to write something useful about a CD... It's my creative outlet so to speak. I can't paint, I'm way too restless to produce music and I don't DJ or throw parties - so this is MY contribution to the scene I love so much! #2. Reviews are my own personal database of "good tracks"... I have so many CDs that I find it hard to keep track of all of them - with these reviews I can always to back and find those stand-out tracks. #3. Collective purposes. I'm a raging collector and my collection keeps growing - fuelled equally by promos + stuff I buy from various internet-shops + second hand... And I spend LOADS of money each month on music... I'm obsessed with owning original CDs - and that's why I ask for full retail version of the stuff I review... CD-Rs have no value for me... #4: Vanity I guess... As I mentioned earlier I can't do much else good to contribute to the scene. But I've got this review thing going pretty well, and usually people like what I write... I get quite a lot of positive feedback and I 'feed' on that... It inspires me to keep doing what I'm doing... And when a label contacts me and asks me if they can send me their new CDs, I usually say yes - STRESSING that I take great pride in writing 100% honest reviews... I cannot stress enough how much pride I take in writing honest, non-biased reviews... Although certain people have accused me of being a label-whore... But just as Rah I usually only write about stuff that I like... I pretty much have all the "sucky" labels filtered out... I hardly ever review Israeli full-on and if I do, I say it straight if I don't like it... So there you have it... I receive enough positive feedback to keep doing what I'm doing... I like it, and I hope that at least some of you have found my reviews useful... DeathPosture

Pretty good tune there - I agree about the upper frequencies being a bit too loud... And I think maybe also you need a tighter theme - I mean, on three minutes you go from electro-digital space-dub to organic flute-chill... It almost threw me off... That being said, I'm really impressed about the rest... This sounds damn good to my ears - You've got some skills man, and if you keep this up I don't see anything stopping you from getting a record deal... The production sounds pretty good to me, and you've got a good ear for long, harmonic pads and soothing little melodies... Well done! /DP

Good choice man - I have the SBC HP910 and they absolutely RULE!
-
Well, don't listen to much to me... I don't own any equipment and I'm a shit DJ when it comes to electronic music - but I spin rock music pretty decently... But that's really easy!... But yeah - just get the gear and practice... Maybe study some tips and techniques on beatmixing and try 'em out... /DP

V/A – Set/5 – Summer Collection Artist: Various Title: Set/5 – Summer Collection Format: CD (jewel case) Label: Iboga Records (Denmark) Cat. #: IBOGACD31 Date: June 2005 Track listing: 01. 08’59” Perfect Stranger – What’s The Line-up? 02. 08’15” Son Kite - Catch 03. 07’37” Ace Ventura – Cardiac Arrest (Zen Mechanix Remix) 04. 10’41” Frogacult – Bye She Said 05. 08’32” Liquid Soul – Go Reality 06. 09’31” Flowjob - Wadley 07. 06’56” Reefer Decree – Gone For Good 08. 07’47” Lunaspice – Eclipsed’ay Review: 68 minutes of summer! This is the 31st release by Danish label Iboga Records – a label that has yet to let me down with it’s upfront, smooth releases within progressive trance with psychedelic influences… The Antix album Twin Coast Discovery was pretty good and the Beat Bizarre album Somersault Industries was kick-ass… So here we get the newest opus in the Set-series – this time compiled by label top-dogs Emok & Banel – focussing on dreamy summer vibes… Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: Perfect Stranger – What’s The Line-up? [130 BPM] As on Set/4 here’s a track by Yuli Fershtat a.k.a. BLT… And yeah, it’s still very smooth, rich progressive trance – with evident Israeli morning influences… A huuuuuge track here – a big phat wall of synth-action, ultra tight percussion, morphing bassline and the trademark Iboga groove… This is the shiznitz! Stellar track! #02: Son Kite – Catch [140 BPM] Ahh – finally a fresh track by the Swedish studio wizards… Last year’s ambitious Colours project was an instant smash – and I’ve been looking forward to new stuff from these guys ever since… I’m happy to say that my high expectations for this track were met – and even exceeded… This is a smashing track – very similar to what was on the Colours album… Big orchestral pads, well-crafted melodic leads and tons of übercool Hi-Hat progressive trance… We even get some Shpongle-like parts… Perfect track! #03: Ace Ventura – Cardiac Arrest (Zen Mechanix Remix) [138 BPM] This original version of this track was on Set/4 – made by Yoni Oshrat – one half of PsySex. A Smooth, funky and kinda wobbly track – and here’s the remix by Dutch producer Wouter Tomassen… This is a remix that pays deep respect to the original – the main leads are intact, but Wouter tweaks it into a tighter, more upbeat trancefloor bombshell… It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of the reverb-effect – and this track is soaked in big, majestic reverbs… Luuuurverly! A very nice track! #04: Frogacult – Bye She Said [128 BPM] Let’s take it down a notch… Here we get a taster from the upcoming second Frogacult album. This dynamic Danish duo consists of Casper Datai and Mikkel Calum – and what we get here is a very clean, well-polished track… Kinda clubby, yet still very underground… The voice-samples are well-fitting and the percussion section is nothing short of ultra-funky… Dropping 10 beats per minute is a brave move by Emok & Banel and personally, I think I would’ve started the compilation with the slower tracks… There is a dull section of this track and maybe it’s a little too long – but it’s still very nice, hi-quality progressive trance… #05: Liquid Soul – Go Reality [135 BPM] Nicola Capobianco debuted on the Plusquam compilation Wireless with a track from the deeper, darker realms of progressive trance – and he really impressed me with his hard-hitting and intoxicating track on the recent Domo Records compilation Posse… This is equally deep… A very crisp rhythm section, morphing and melodic background pads… Oh yes, this is smooth, sexy beach house trance… Would mix well with Antix…The breakdown is eerie and the build-up is very cool… Another great track! #06: Flowjob – Wadley [128 BPM] Joakim Hjørne & Mads Tinggaard from Denmark had the best track on the recent Lime Light compilation from Tribal Vision Records… A very crispy track with rich psychedelic influences… And they continue down the same path here, on this afternoon burner…The rhythm section is funky and progressive, the melodic leads are solid – and the guys are not afraid of experimentation, as we get all kinds of world-beats influences throughout the track… Well done! Again this track suffers from stand-still syndrome towards the end, but it’s not too bad… I can cope! The debut should be out on Iboga in 2006 – and goddam I can’t wait… #07: Reefer Decree – Gone For Good [138 BPM] Holy shit – this is the first new Refeer Decree track in two years! RD was one of the leading progressive acts of the past and Oliver Nonell has now picked up the pieces of the band started in 1999 by Kim Jiwook Bijl… This track sounds pretty much like RD did 5 years ago, though not quite as minimal… It’s very deep, stripped down progressive trance – with electro-influences…We even get some nifty little acid-bits and melodic twirls here… The final breakdown and the following climax are very dancefloor friendly, but I could have wished for an even more well-defined rhythm section and tighter percussion… But as a retrospective choon, this track serves its purpose… Dope! #08: Lunaspice – Eclipsed’ay [138 BPM] Mathieu Delepeau from France released his debut album Reflexion with Steven Le Corre on Sub Machine Records in 2004…. Unfortunately I haven’t heard that album, but I do remember Mathieu’s track on the Inspirazzia compilation under his D.Sens epithet… That was a very house-influences track and so is this - though with a deeper, darker edge… A good track, but nothing extraordinary… Well I’ll be damned, if this isn’t the best compilation to surface from the Iboga labs for a long time! Set/4 was great, but this is even better… The variation is great here – kept within a basic framework of groovy progressive trance of course… As always with Iboga, the packaging reeks quality. The artwork is cool and breezy – I like the clean 6-page booklet with info on all tracks… Well done! There are no bad tracks here – and the number of really good tracks is impressive… My only gripe is the order of the tracks – I would have put the slower tracks first, but that’s only nitpicking really… This works wonders in my living room, it’s tested and approved as car-entertainment and it is absolutely essential for any DJ spinning rich progressive trance… I give this compilation my highest recommendations… Enjoy! Favourites: All! … But 1(!), 2(!!) and 3(!) are stand-outs! * V/A - Goa Trance (Rumour Records 1995) http://www.discogs.com/release/91989 Ebay seller forgot to tell me that the CD is VERY scratched... * V/A - Psychic Orgasm Vol. 1 (Mine Music Inc. 1998) http://www.discogs.com/release/348224 This came in a package that was completely smashed to pieces... Like every mailman from there to Japan had simultaneously riverdanced on the package... The CD itself and the frontcover only has minor scratches (thankfully!) - but the backcover is ripped and an TIP Records CD-R that was in the package is literally smashed into a thousand pieces... Goddam mailmen! /DP

Yeah man - you should go... Despite his poor mixing skills and uninspired taste in music, the man is a living legend... Last hippie standing! He christens the decks before he plays... He he... ;o) /DP

OFFTOPIC: Did you read the guidelines? They were updated lately: Try to keep the length sensible. While pointless one-liners and "this is the best record ever" Comments should be avoided, extremely thorough track-by-track reviews tend to clutter the page and make readers lose interest. I'm personally all for long reviews (well duh - that's what I do) but I haven't added any of mine to Discogs lately because I stated getting no-votes... But yeah, I don't see why this is different than you ISAN review... Strange... Oh, and while we're offtopic - why don't you list your collection on Discogs!? ON TOPIC: Yeah - this is a pretty good X-Dream album... Some real gems among these tracks... My ancient review can be found here... /DP

V/A - Fragile Life Artist: Various Title: Fragile Life Format: CD (amaray DVD case) Label: Cosmicleaf Records (Greece) Cat. #: CLCD02 Distribution: Unicorn Music/Ultimae Date: June 2005 Track listing: 01. 06’44” Will-O’-The-Wasp – Fall Out 02. 06’45” Zero Cult - Tripsphere 03. 07’17” Omegahertz - Cosmovatis 04. 06’37” Side Liner – Screaming Tears 05. 05’50” MLT – In A Cell 06. 06’00” D. Batistatos – Criminal Intention 07. 06’50” Zero Cult – Night Out (Max Mix) 08. 04’30” Omegahertz – Nostos Vocal Edition (Radio Cut) 09. 06’58” Del feat. Cydelix - Epiros 10. 07’46” Red Eye Express – Song For Alex 11. 06’42” Goasia – Pray For Rain Review: Intelligent elevator muzak… Cosmicleaf Records is the chilled sub-label of Greek label Unicorn Music… Last year’s compilation Chill On Ice was a nice little surprise with loads of debuting artists – and journey-wise that compilation was quite impressive… And now it’s time for the second release – with many of the same artists… Let’s have a closer listen… Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: Will-O’-The-Wasp – Fall Out The Wasp is Vasilis Miamis from Greece and AFAIK this is his debut release… This is wholesome electronic downbeat… Chilled soundscapes and laidback, yet stiff beats… Dubby without really being dubby… Yeah, I like this… ;o) #02: Zero Cult – Tripsphere Zero Cult is Israeli chill producer Emil Ilyayev who also had two tracks on Chill On Ice… Both were nice, and so is this… A mixture of organic ambient and spacy electronica…Beautifully executed… I like the eerie melodies here – spooky, but very memorizing… This is a stand-out track for sure! #03: Omegahertz – Cosmovatis Demitris Pouranis from Greece was also on Chill On Ice – with a very nice track… Here Demitris is joined by his eternal love Maria on vocals… Singing about faith, love and tripping to light… Hippies! …This is floating, melodic downbeat electronica… Synths are everywhere, as are filters and electro-pads in the background… Nice, but not as great as the two previous tracks… #04: Side Liner – Screaming Tears Cosmicleaf label manager Nick Miamis impressed me with his psy-crossover track on Chill… And sure enough, this angst-ridden track also has enough psy-elements in it, to keep me interested… The percussion section is cool and laidback, whilst the surroundings are kinda haunting – paranoid even – which is backed by the thoughts printed in the DVD inlay… Another great combo track! Sweet! #05: MLT – In A Cell “Let me breath again. Let me see the light. I feel nothing anymore. Like a butterfly in a cage. As much the blows have gone. I don’t care to fly anymore. The world now is visualized in my mind. I’m a spirit, in a cell!” Mitiades Shimatariotis was another newbie that impressed me on Chill… Here he is joined by Vicky Fysika on vocals… And DAMN, the girl can sing! Holy shit, this is some great stuff… The first part of the track is forgettable, but once she starts singing I guarantee you, you’ll wake up… Too bad about the Engrish lyrics, but hey – still an impressive track! #06: D. Batistatos – Criminal Intention Dimitris Batistatos from Greece also did well on Chill… The intro here is very original – all kinds of sounds from the city – mixed up with tight percussion… An overall laidback rhythm section and nifty little synth melodies… Perhaps a little boring in some parts, but overall not a bad track…The sounds of the city parts are very cool! #07: Zero Cult – Night Out (Max Mix) As usual we get a second dose of Zero Cult… This time a more upbeat, yet chilled track… It’s kinda trancy as the title imply… All that sounds great in theory… And for the most part it is a great track – it’s just I’m not too impressed with the main melodic lead here… It annoys me somehow… But hey – the crossover appeal is huge here – this could easily have been on one of the countless Ibiza chill compilations… A very epic, floating track… #08: Omegahertz – Nostos Vocal Edition (Radio Cut) More Omegahertz here… This track was also on Chill On Ice – and now it’s conveniently chopped for radio-length… This is a very spiritual track – with a nice acoustic guitar and rich ethnic influences… World beats, orchestral pads and twirling electro pads… Very Juno Reactor’esque – and still a smashing track! Another stand-out! #09: Del feat. Cydelix – Epiros George Deliginannis is joined by Cydelix here (on vocals I presume)… The thoughts behind Eva Rentifi’s vocals are printed in the DVD inlay – and they revolve around stars… Both inner and outer stars… A very emotional track here – and totally downbeat… I’m not sure what to think of the vocals though – a little too hollow perhaps… But still a decent track! #10: Red Eye Express – Song For Alex As on Chill we get a guest appearance from Tempest Recordings in Australia… The guys behind this project are Giorgio Giampetri, Christopher Innes and Damiano Verna… This is highly original downtempo stuff – a big old melting pot of many different styles… Tribal percussion, acoustic guitar, trance, electro and ambient… Very experimental and very original… Not a bad mix, but not my fav’e track here either… #11: Goasia – Pray For Rain Balint Tihamer from Serbia & Montenegro had on of the best tracks on Chill On Ice – and his dance offshoot on the Apsara compilation released by Suntrip Records also impressed me… And yeah, this rain dance track is almost as good… Floating, soothing chill-out – with a steady, rich rhythm section – and sweet little melodies that never gets too cheesy… This is the way to end a chill compilation! Good work! Ahh – what a nice compilation here… The first compilation from Cosmicleaf was nice – and this is even nicer… There are no bad tracks here, and we get a bigger percentage of stand-out tracks – great! …Again I’m impressed by the flow here – it’s a continuous journey and the tracks seem very carefully selected to ensure the best possible voyage… Also the packaging is pretty stylish with the DVD amaray case and cool artwork… Well done Cosmicleaf – keep evolving this way, and you’ll soon be one of the leading chill-labels… That being said, I could still have hoped for a little more psychedelia here… I’m a nostalgic trancer you know… Some of the tracks are a little too epic for my taste and generally I need that little extra spice to rank this as an essential release… But yeah, the cross-over potential is evident and you can play this for both your parents and non psy-friends easily… They’ll love it… I recommend this compilation to fans of smooth, melodic downtempo music… And I’m looking forward to the next step… Enjoy!
