I transfered all of my Flying Rhino compilations to my computer a couple of days ago so I've actually been listening to their releases quite a lot recently. My favorite releases are: Blue Planet Corporation - Blue Planet Darshan - Awakening Darshan - Spectra V/A - Airborn V/A - Black Rhino V/A - First Flight V/A - Slipstream V/A - Singularity V/A - Velocity

You should also look for Music for Spaceports. It's probably hard to find the original release, but certainly worth the effort. I listened to it a lot back when it was released. It's a highly enjoyable mix of techtrance och melodies, there are some really great melodic moments on that album. Some tunes would work very well with Blue Planet Corporation from the same era. If you're interested in their history you should look for Max Chapados (one of the members) debut album Transe Modulaire as Aeon. A piece of unknown goa history. The standout track is Osho, an almost unknown melodic masterpiece. The track is remixed on the Mission to Sedna album. Btw, if anyone wants to sell Transe Modulaire please send me msg.

"It is being sold because Simon needs something slightly bigger for the upcoming fourth Shpongle Album." -
I was a bit skeptical when I first heard the samples, but since then I've been listening to the album over and over again. This is another strong Vibrasphere release. The only weak point are the downtempo tunes at the end of the album, it's not that their bad (they're really good), it's just that I wished that the there were even more uptempo tunes. I remember that I criticized the previous album for being more of the same and I hoped that they would reinvent their sound, and that's exactly what they have done with this release. The new album is as strong as their previous efforts and this time around their sound is taking new and exciting turns. This album will certainly introduce a wider audience to the Vibrasphere sound. Several of my friends who are not into psytrance feel in love with it immediately and I'm sure you will too. Highly recommended!

Incredible tune, shivers all over! -
What a joke to claim that Spiral Trax is back if their return release is an EP by Astrix and remixes by GMS and Wrecked Machineries. Maybe I shouldn't judge too fast, but this doesn't look to promising and without tracklists for the upcoming compilations I'll choose to remain pessimistic. The real question is: what big German label bought Spiral Trax? Those of you living in Germany should find out who holds the rights to the Spiral Trax name, or who has registered the Spiral Trax company name.

Have you noticed that this releases is actually called Best of the Rhino years vol 1? Let's hope there's actually going to be a second volume.

It's awesome, lots of great music by Gus Till! A hundred times better then his recent output. It's an essential release if you like the early Bus sound, and who doesn't?

Nuclear Ramjet are really good, Mission to Sedna was one of last years best albums, but I think a lot of people never even heard the album. I'm not sure I agree on the Triac connection, Nuclear Ramjet's sound is more melodic and morning oriented while Triac is less melodic and more nighttime oriented. If there is a connection, I would say that it's Triac that sounds like Nuclear Ramjet since NR has been around for a longer time. :-) If you're looking for some what similar music (based on both your interest in NR and Triac) I can recommend: V/A - Arise V/A - Refresh V/A - Rewired V/A - Chronika Chapter Two You also want to listen to anything by Midi Miliz, Spirallianz and The Delta. If you're prepared to go a bit further back in time I can also recommend Noosphere's album Radiated.

2 albums in 2006 and 20 tracks on compilations. In 2007 he has released a split/collaborations album and now a double cd on Digital Psionics and at least three tracks on compilations. Are the labels happy to release anything as long as it's by an established artist? -
I've just listened to it for the first time and it's great!

When the best of 2006 competition was over I decided to revisit some of the releases mentioned in the competition. I'm glad I did because given a second chance I found these two releases to be a lot better then the first impression: Vibrasphere - Archipelago Filteria - Heliopolis That shouldn't be a big surprise to most of you since both releases ended up in the top ten. My first impression was that both releases didn't really evolve previous efforts, but given a second chance I think both releases are more then valid and that they are worth purchasing. I also found a (to me) previously unknown album: Quasar - One Day Really good storytelling dark psychedelic trance. Are there any psytrance releases from 2006 that the rest of you have overlooked or (re)discovered?

Do you remember what it was you let him listen to?

Few psytrance artists have a twelve year long career. Most artists release a couple of tracks and one or two albums and then they are lost in the noise. Cosmosis is one of those artists that have managed to develop his sound with dignity and keep the quality high over the years. Even though he's far from his straight forward ecstatic melodic debut he has always had that psychedelic atmosphere we are all looking for. During his career he has created lots of good tracks and solid albums. Nine years after its release date Synergy still remains a masterpiece. His 2005 album, Trancendance, was a big disappointment as it lacked the quality and integrity expected from Cosmosis, but judging by the samples from the new album he's back on track.

Wow, the longer samples do sound fantastic! Anoebis, give the longer samples another chance. It's not old school Etnica/Pleiadians but it's deep psychedelic space trance.
-
That's the good old goa spirit, quality over quantity.

Yes, Native State is a great label, all of their releases are really good.

Not an excellent album, but definitely strong, and it's quite catchy. I like it.

Thanks for the tip!

I'm usually not impressed by the so called dark psytrance, but I tend to find one or two albums per year that are really good. This year I've already found one of those great albums. Para Halu's Space Rock is dark, hypnotic, twisted and psychedelic night trance. Highly recommended!

Nice to finally have the results, good work. Some comments: 1. If there are only 76 participants spread over 24 countries there is really no reason why the bars should show the percentage, the absolute numbers are just as valid and more interesting. 2. Reconsider if the current form of voting is relevant. 87 % of all releases in the contest received less then 5 votes and the median number of received votes is 1. That is, most albums only received one vote. A problem with this kind of ranking is that the voter is forced to rank a number of releases even though he or she might not feel that there's that big of a difference between the top five releases. 3. Another alternative way is too divide the contest into two parts. Step one is to let anyone nominate albums, let's say ten albums. The second step is the actual voting phase where only albums that received more then let's say five nominees are allowed to partake in the actual contest. 4. If only the number of received votes is taken into account and not the ranking/points then the list would look slightly different. The first column represents the new order and the second column the current order and the third column is the name of the album/compilation. Filteria is still number one, but OOOD is moved one step up and Jikkenteki one step down. Electrypnose is moved from 14 to 8 and the New Order compilation from 30 to 13. 1 1 Filteria - Heliopolis 2 3 O.O.O.D. - Free Range 3 2 Jikkenteki - The Long Walk Home 4 5 KoxBox - U-Turn 5 4 Ka-Sol - Fairytale 6 6 Vibrasphere - Archipelago 7 7 Carbon Based Lifeforms - World of Sleepers 8 14 Electrypnose - Subliminal Melancholies 9 10 Tegma - Around the World in 80 Minutes 10 8 Androcell - Efflorescence 11 8 V/A - Pyramidal Trancendence 11 10 Quasar - One Day 11 10 V/A - Peace Therapy Vol.2 12 13 V/A - God Save The Machine 13 19 Human Blue - Misstarryas Xperience 13 30 V/A - New Order
