If you buy Shpongle expecting ambient then the problem is not the music but your expectations. Shpongle is experimental psychedelic music.

Joti Sidu: The first Psychaos tracks are great, but since then I haven't heard anything special by him. Oforia: Great debut album, then nothing interesting. Xenomorph: Love the debut, dislike everything since then. ManMadeMan: A couple of great tracks, boring albums. Paps: A handful of strong tracks, that's it.

A lot of things can be said about Infected Mushroom, but one day wonders, no way.

Hi there Lawrance! It's not refreshing to use naked or semi-naked women on covers since the product has absolutely nothing to do with that. It's a down right pathetic and obsolete way of marketing. As a potential customer I will not support these releases since I find them objectifying and degrading. These covers are also a sign of the times, the music has become formualic and mainstream, and these covers follow the same path. The Moon Unit cover is something I would expect to find on a cereal box. I do hope you understand that we're not calling these covers stupid based on technical issues or layout conserns. I don't have the photoshop nor artistic skills to do covers myself, but that doesn't make my opinion invalid. That kind of argument is since long dead. Public releases will get discussed in forums like these, if you can't stand that you shouldn't release your work to the public. I thought it was quite obvious why these covers were stupid, and that's why I didn't elaborate. I hope I have managed to explain my view on this matter by now. Btw, since this is your first post and you seem to have become offended by this thread I asume you have made one of these covers, which one?

A recent release that should be mentioned is CPC's album Über den Angst, great stuff!
-
Hey kid, tell your friends I'm fine where I'm at.
-
Guess what, it wasn't the "hippy van" that made the cover stupid...

This weeks stupid covers:

I use reviews to see what releases cause a lot of reactions. If it seems like an interesting release I download it, and if it's actually good (rarely) I buy it. The track-by-track reviews are useless, too long and meaningless. I want to know about the overall vibe and flow not read crappy descriptions of tracks, samples provide more information than 2-3 bad lines of "description". I'll just skip to the conclusion. As far as grades are conserned, some people can't handle 10 grades. An average release gets 7/10 when it should have 5/10 and a good release gets 9/10 when it should have 6/10 or 7/10. Then there's the strong compilations that get 10/10 even though they provide nothing new. I do get the impression that high grades are overrepresented in reviews of dark psy, but I don't know if it's correct, just feeling... Then there's a bunch of people whom you know have good taste in music and actually listen to other styles of music, and their single opinion on music is worth 10x more.

I've said this over and over again, but here goes: Ubar Tmar is one the most talanted and most overlooked artists of psy-trance. His True album is one of the most incredible releases in the psy-trance genre.
-
From the Legend was one of the best releases of 2004. Good full on psy-trance; scratcy, melodic, psychedelic. I do hope Misted Muppet will continue to release good music regardless of their split up.

I gave the album 3/5, meaning it's an ok album, but not the masterpiece everyone else believe it to be. Just because I don't like his storytelling doesn't mean I want simple "build-stop-drumroll-climax", but since I don't like his storytelling and there are no climaxes I do find the album to be unsatisfying.

Besides some of the stuff already mentioned: Darshan - Spectra Quirk - Machina Electrica and Fornax Chemica Ubar Tmar - True Shaolin Wooden Men - Supermindway Nervasystem & Aether - The Mama Matrix Most Mysterious

I've given this album so many chances by now that I think it can't grow any more on me. Robot.O.Chan is full of great sounds but Prometheus fails to arrange them into something special. I get the feeling that Prometheus is too occupied on doing smart things, rather then focusing on the vibe and story of the tracks. There are no bad tunes on this album, but that extra something is lacking. There's just no climax. The tunes chugs along and by the end of them I'm thinking, is that it? Something that prevents me from focusing on the numerous good sounds is the muddy bass and too loud kick, it really ruins the experience. Prometheus' Robot.O.Chan is the biggest anti-climax of 2004. 3 / 5

Quality Relaxation has become a very hyped compilation, and looking at the tracklist it's understandable. I've been looking forward to this compilation ever since I heard of it. Now that I'm listening to it I can't help but feel more unsatisfied than satisfied. My main concern is that this is a compilation of tracks, not a journey, and that's a big bad for a chill out compilation. This one goes from upbeat experimental to laidback to ambient to ambient trance to dub. The Jaia, Cell and Phasephour tracks work good one after another, but that's it as far as flow goes. I'm done with the tired and unimaginative use of ethnic samples, the tunes by Entheogenic and Elysium would have been a lot better without those. Now I can't help but skip those two tracks. The only tracks that manages to catch my attention are by Jaia, Cell (minus the samples) and Phasephour. The hyped Altitudes project doesn't deliver, the sounds are very sharp though. The Blue Planet Corporation track has a good atmosphere but I don't like the melodies. This compilation is really not all that: 3 / 5

Give it a rest, mate. We know of your mix.
-
All reviews should be made as polls, very smart!
-
No way! I'm going to play this mix at parties and radio broadcasts all over the world and there's nothing you can do to stop me! Seriously though, I stopped listening when the distorted guitars kicked in, can't stand guitars in psy-trance, sorry.
-
You know what's even funnier? That you actually watched Smallville.
-
New Penta? That's great news! What label will release it?
-
The version on Nothing Lasts is just over 2 minutes long, but the original is more than 6 minutes long and it's an incredible tune.
-
Get Floatation if you want to own one of the absolutely best ambient compilations.
