I've seen more then one little guy/girl dance to progressive in our living room this year, so they do like it! Then again they also like their own "Kiddy-music" no? I do think it's a good thing to expose your child to wide musical influences, but beware...! One day he's gonna want to rebel against his parents & if you guys happen to be cool ppl he might end up a nerd just to be different :D No seriously; I often think about that...

What music are you listening to right now?
Tox replied to Sputum Rotgut's topic in General Psytrance
For the first time in the year that I've been working here I'm listening to psy-music (on low volume) Loads of ppl are off & I managed to install a small cd player I borrowed from a co-worker on my desk. Enjoying "Atmos - Headcleaner" right now -
the Dance-a-delic-festival 2004, mainfloor. try to imagine it without the copcar

Really cool & interesting topic!! Having little knowledge of the psy-trance business-structures, I'll just add the things I know for a fact: 1) Distributors (like Cosmophilia,...) usually buy a cd for véry little more than it's cost-price, that is incl all factors mentioned above by ppl like DETOX. Smaller labels like A.P.-Rec's are almost obliged to accept these terms because they don't have the financial strenght to wait for a long time to get their money back. This way they get the biggest part of their investement back without actually having sold that amount of cd's to the public. They won't make a lot of money like this, but at least they won't lose any either. 2) A "bigger name" in the progressive scene, recently made a critically acclaimed album & told me he sold "only" about 2000 albums worldwide. This came a quite a shock to me, knowing how much our national dance-acts sell here in Belgium, but after doing some math it made sense Ofcourse these ppl can't really live on album sales alone anymore: they make some tracks for compilations to make something extra & try to cash in on their live-acts. & who's to blame them? You can also see that several older labels like Digital Structures or Spiral Trax have changed their strategy dramatically. Instead of flooding the market with a 5 cd's/month, they now only release a coupple of albums/comp's per year & they only press about 2000 copies. Even of the guys I considdered "Progressive Heawyweights" like Vibrasphere! Sometimes this will result in cd's being out-of-stock, which clearly means that they could have made more money out of it. But in case of big demand, they can always have a repress of about 500-1000 copy's. On the other hand this way they won't get stuck with piles of unsold cd's like in the past... Bottom line: if you like this music, buy an original from time to time. It won't do you any harm, but it could do the scene a lot of good!

In Belgium, the Goa Head-comp's were pretty much the only decent psy-stuff that you could buy in Free Record Shop, also the biggest chain of record stores...

What massive track to drop at new year moment!?
Tox replied to pa850711's topic in General Psytrance
Now thére's a great idea!!! Easily one of my all time fav's & 100% cheeseless. Maybe start the track before, cut it of for the count-down (4,3,2,1) & then drop those mercyless beats again? Also, more fitted for midnight-track I reckon, then again: I've never been at a party on 23:59 31/12 for the last 8 years. I celebrate at home, with friends & thén go in the NYE-madness Still, I doubt you'd get a standing ovation -
A good tip for those of you who aren't too impressed by this & it goes for any release really: Listen to it on a higher volume.

I quite liked it, but as it took me a while to fully appreciate the first double cd, I think (hope) my appreciation will continue to grow over the next weeks/months... I do understand why A-Z released this in winter-season: that's exactly the image I get whit this music. Delicate snowflakes, microscopic crystals, icy-clear skies, frozen waterfalls,... It's a shame there're nearly no climaxes within the tracks, yet again "less" seems to be "more". Hidden melodies & variation: sometimes in rhythmic structure, sometimes in sound-architecture with some exprimental structures that kinda remind me of the softer & non-dancefloor productions of Jeff Mills in the late nineties. Only minus I have is that it all sounds a little too delicate & too clean now&then & that there's no "warm embrace" in the music (yet)

FINALLY! Yesterday I managed to score a cd I've been looking for for ages now. And brand-new aswell. No trance what-so-ever Rhythm & Sound - W/ The Artists http://www.discogs.com/release/191256 This has to be thé best neo-dub on the face of the earth. 2 German white-boys producing the deepest bass known to man, adding some very minimal & melancholic arrangements (sometimes only white-noise) & each track is graced with emotional rasta-vocals from the real Jamaican undergrond. Sorry, but in the chill/-neo-dub-department these àre the kings & I'm sure Entheogenic, Shulman, Ott, Gus Till & especially Bluetech would agree if you'd ask them.

The new Bluetech: http://www.discogs.com/release/576739 becasue I couldn't wait for the new Shulman any longer & the new Flow comp "V/A Globalise" compiled by Yotopia (not on discogs yet)

Well I'm stil a firm believer that the perfect compilation (like the perfect party) should span a broad spectum of styles & take the best elements of all of them. about the price: "Make me an offer I can't refuse"

How do you mean? Both start with 2 "more mellow" tracks & then have a bridging track to pick up the pace. cd 1 is proggressive: old & new cd 2 has more guitar & pure psychedelic trance. The last 4 tracks would be my favourite oldies (1997-2000) to end a party around 10 or 11 AM: arms in the air, smiley faces, maybe even watery eyes The 2 bonus tracks are not trance related but pretty amazing in their own way. Wanna buy a copy, Moni? Special price for mods

To me psychedelic means "out of the ordinary" Most of the times for me it's music with hypnotic rhytms or subtle nuances that only reveal their beauty after several listening-session. Cheap music sounds great the first time you hear it & then gets pretty boring pretty fast, truly psychedelic music might not have an instant appeal but gets better every time you hear it

I only own their latest (?) full album "The Hive" which I think is brilliant, but apparently most ppl think it's not up to the level of their previous stuff? Bee, looking for his "Collected works" for a while now too... btw GSH, I think it's pretty sad if it's the first time you have a sensation like this sober: the goosebumps, the watery eyes... I get that nearly every time I hear "Transmission in Vain" by Atmos or "People can fly" by AP or "Land of Freedom" rmx by Transwave. Actually, it's coming up now, just thinking of those tracks Still I bet it's a great discovery?

Personally I don't really feel the need to bash Skazi-likes or a whole genre in general, I prefer to ignore it if possible...

My gf got this one yesterday night Various - Headspace, compiled by Sally Doolally http://www.discogs.com/release/528058 Happy me!

OK here goes... I used to like to old POTS so when I found out they were still alive I was pretty curious what they were up to. After hearing "Pole Position Club", my fav track on V/A – “Inner Circle” my expectations were rather high. But no way I couldn’t have imagined that they would deliver such an innovative album! This is great stuff, the kind of music that really has to grow on a listener. POTS don’t abandon their minimal trance roots, they just updated them. It’s good to finally see that there is more to the progressive scene than the Son Kite/Ticon-sound or the FREq-a-likes. Think Atmos but with a less synthetic & clean sound, FREq without the crystal clear melodies, Jaïa in a depressed mood or AKD with more variation. Fluffy & housey structures combined with raw & uncompromising beats & kicks. Especially the beats sound totally different from what we’re used to these days. It’s like all the tracks were originally created to sound kind of soft & then filtered or rmx’ed to sound more harsh & square. They incorporate housy click’s & cut’s, mnml bleep & bops and techy hi-hats. There are dreamy pads as well, just not on the surface. Sometimes the beauty is wrapt in thick distortion. It’s a beautiful picture, but it’s drawn with a blunt pencil. At the same time there’s no lack of details, but these tiny sound-bytes only expose themselves after several listenings. Instead of going through the tracks one by one I would just like to mention my personal highlights: 04. Bravo: this really is THE bomb. Gently but constantly building & finally locking into endless repetition. Only great artists can paint such a big soundscape with so few elements! Made my eyes water… 05. Botox Party: from Minimal to mnml. Hidden melodic parts in the undertow that shine through the bleeps & clicks, never forgetting the groove. 07. Eifelgold: a faster floorburner that adds variety to the album. In conclusion, it’s very likely that this album will not get the recognition it deserves. This is a new, contemporary fusion of different elements from the past AND the future. & it sounds better every time you listen to it! Check this out, plz…
