after festival waste - psy parties perspective
Padmapani replied to Prao's topic in General Psytrance
over here, some people leave trash behind while others collect more trash than their own. coupled with a few dedicated people from the organisation, it is pretty clean at psy festivals overall. and certainly much cleaner than at other kinds of festivals. -
What music are you listening to right now?
Padmapani replied to Sputum Rotgut's topic in General Psytrance
great track. but overlooked, probably because it was not released on any of the "normal" goa labels. @topic nice, hard hitting fullon with a few melodies that remind more more of old logic bomb than the new logic bomb album does. -
if you're also interested in throwing illegal underground parties in the woods, we could definitely use more of these here. i can offer an established, but small anough to be very familiar, scene, nice crowd, ok djs, european average drug laws, nice natural settings and the police are very reasonable as long they don't find out where the parties take place

VA - Astronauts in The Solar System
Padmapani replied to Tsotsi's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
probably a new one. afair he wrote somwhere in the psyproduction reddit that he's working on new goa trance. from the samples skarma sounds nice and triquetra average. but with ypsilon 5, median project and mindsphere also on there it's probably going to be as good as most global sect comps. i know excitement looks different. it seems we just got used to getting a steady stream of good (but not spectacular) releases from global sect. the days where there was so little goa released that every single album created hype even before anyone had the chance to hear any of it are thankfully over- 9 replies

exactly. i don't think we've had as much goa in the top ten before. thanks for compiling the list aspartic!
-
nice, thanks! other than protoculture - refractions there nothing quite like it. older morning fullon like fatali or sirius isness don't have that mysterious vibe, old talamasca does but is not nearly as smooth. so if i'd he hard pressed to find anything new that's remotely similar, i'd probably settle, even though they're not nearly as energetic or melodic, on some music from the borderline of fullon and progressive such as:
-
totally! i just double checked if memento and pure reality are among the ones i listed, but i mentioned onida and analog device instead
-
i'd have gue with all that dirty acid and melodies combined with the techy aesthetic i'd have guessed 1999. but it wouldn't sound of place anywhere between 1998-2002. reminds me a bit of the atomic children remix or the children of paradise album. thanks for mentioning the track, it (in fact the whole album) has flewn under my radar up to now.

what whas the first New School goa track
Padmapani replied to astralprojection's topic in General Psytrance
wouldn't the early infected mushroom tracks also fall in this category? that'd make it useless for classifying newschool. -
silicon sound is just great. pure analog is one of the albums that for me define good fullon. however the best track is without a doubt the nexus 6 remix (with onida and analog device following close behind). it's a shame he doesn't make that kind of music anymore. his newer tracks were more techy progressive, but still good. be sure to also check out his free tracks. although not quite up to pure analog i wonder why they weren't released back then.

well, he posted a video some time ago, so at least we know there's a guy that looks like his avatar who's willing to set up a dj desk in a (small) warehouse play mwnn and sing to it.

so basically, you're looking for good darkpsy? hitech is pretty much dead anyway. you might want to risk a look in this thread i started a while back (looking for atmospheric dark ) : https://www.psynews.org/forums/topic/74670-recommend-me-some-darkpsy/ you'll find lots of forest in there, which is (with good reason) the most popular style of darkpsy these days.

This is where (commercial) Psytrance is going...
Padmapani replied to RTP's topic in General Psytrance
yeah, it's german. but the kind spoken in northern germany. the girl i understand fine in comparison to the guy. word for word it's: "friday, saturday, i'll fuck my head, i party a pigtail (probably also some northern german expression, i have no idea what they mean), i don't make myself a head (northern german expression for i don't give a fuck). -

Padmapani replied to RTP's topic in General Psytrance
it's supposedly my native language, yet i don't understand a single word of what the guy is saying. it's horrible. but it isn't psy. "psy beats" have escaped into the wild some time ago. first into hardstyle, now into whatever this genre is called. -
what whas the first New School goa track
Padmapani replied to astralprojection's topic in General Psytrance
i also missed it in this thread. while that ethereal track from 1999 has newschool and oldschool elements, quazar really sounds 100% newschool. even more so than sneila from the same year. i think we can put the birth of newschool at a time no later than 2001. -
what whas the first New School goa track
Padmapani replied to astralprojection's topic in General Psytrance
out of these both neogenia tracks and the first ovnimoon track sound most newschool. they have that more prominent bass mostly missing in oldschool and are overly melodic (typical of 10s newschool). ethereal is of course typical for early (00s) newschool. more atmospheric, melodic but not too much so , and still bright and fluid (unlike most newer newschool and oldschool). chi-ad is real oldschool and sounds like it. deeper, not so much in-your-face and more of that "mysterious" vibe so much oldschool and pretty much no newschool has (not that i think it's a mistake of newschool, they are just different). all in all, everything except chi-a.d. is easily recognisable as newschool. -

thanks for pointing me that way a while back. the synthetic resurrection album is great. but some of his new stuff is totally oldschool: -

skarma is definitely newschool imho. but the hypnoxcock album really sounds oldschool to my ears. -

arguably, sneila's species album from 2001 could be the first newschool. it was happily played in newschool dj sets and also has that early newschool sound (bright, soft melodies, melodic but not overloaded like later newschool, also not really like pleiadians at all). other contenders are the blissful moments compilation (2003), ethereal - anima mundi (2003) and ypsilon 5 (2004; it's pure newschool imho), sky input of course, va - pure planet (2004; this one includes sneila as well as goasia). these along with apsara (2005) really defined the newschool sound (of the time) for me (well, maybe not no much sky input — filteria has his own unique style). a sound that was dominent until daze and arcana (which broadened the scope of newschool). i miss the "old newschool" nowadays. i much prefer it over what's popular in now (morphic resonance, celstial intelligence, ...) btw: space juice is psytrance rather than goa in my music library ;). but yeah, many tracks from around that time (or a little earlier) are hard to divide into psy or goa. try to classify talamasca - the old school, the tracks from cosmosis' contact album, electric universe's unify album... you'll get different answers from different people :) -
it was quite a relief
-
there have been playing sets mainly consisting of trance covers since 2008 (or so) at least when i saw them here in austria (i was actually attending only for filteria who played directly afterwards).
-
nice. i especially like the third one. i guess living in berlin you get lots of good techno regularly.

no ads are of course ideal, but i'd be fine with in-scene ads too as long as it's done tastefully (one or two small and simple uinobtrusive banners like what they sometimes have at goabase).
