Most inappropriate melodies or samples in psytrance
Padmapani replied to recursion loop's topic in General Psytrance
yeah, they are still ok, but they could be a lot better. i'd argue that cruise control gets too cheesy before 4:50 (at 3:24) when the vocal comes in, but yes, it turns into a total mess later. that remix of atmonizer is very interesting. it explores a different direction in a nice way, leaves out most of the porn samples but sadly also leaves out the great main melody. so i don't think it'd rate it higher than the original. -
Morphic Resonance - Perplexity [Suntrip]
Padmapani replied to antic604's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
according to the samples it will again not be quite my cup of tea. on the other hand twisted reality sounds exactly like old mfg. -
that playlist contains a track called blue noise ( ). it doesn't sound too typical like silicon sound and neither discogs nor any other place in the web i have looked know anythimg about it, but i know it very well from parties back then. any idea if this is really silicon sound or where it might have been released?

Abraxas - Inner Worlds [Future Music]
Padmapani replied to antic604's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
so this is why we haven't heard much from cosmosis lately. and to be honest i don't hear anything other than cosmosis' style in these samples. this is quality fullon. -
Need help with kick/bass
Padmapani replied to huxfluxarn's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
any synth that can make a typical psy bass (sawtooth with sufficiently fast envelopes) should be fine. the rest is just fine tuning the envelope parameters and a little processing (mainly some distortion and eq). one more thing that could be the case here (i'm not quite sure) is that the first bass note seems to have a filter that's as open as the filter on the later notes. so the filter freq is probably also modulated by velocity. -
i've never heard that before. according to a quick youtube search it's hardstyle with kbb. interesting how people define psy by (one of its many) bassline patterns.

it's not about how popular the music actually is. in 99% of the cases these terms refer to music that has lots of pop or (whatever dance music is big at the moment) elements instead of psy elements. if you replace the beat with a beat sounds like big room house, copy some traditional house track structure and add a few psy squelches, you're making commercial music. same goes for putting awful cheesy singing that sounds like top40-pop over a fullon beat. if such music becomes popular (like infected mushroom) or if it flops (like alien jesus) doesn't make any difference. of course you could say that the terms aren't completely true to their original meaning in this context, but what words would you use instead?

Psynews "Best of 2017". LET'S DO THIS!
Padmapani replied to Void Mantra's topic in General Psytrance
sure. the topic is only running for three weeks or so now. last year it was open for two months. -
Psynews "Best of 2017". LET'S DO THIS!
Padmapani replied to Void Mantra's topic in General Psytrance
the results are going to be very interesting this year. there are no clear favourites this time, so i have absolutely no idea which albums will come out on top. it's not even guaranteed that a goa album will take the first spot -

Need help with kick/bass
Padmapani replied to huxfluxarn's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
this track definitely also has the bass sidechained to the kick. in addition to velocity (and the patch settings of course), differences in note length and small adjustments to note position can also make or break a groove. -
california sunshine - tokyo underground (underrated AF)
Padmapani replied to astralprojection's topic in General Psytrance
one of their very best tracks. together with jajo, summer 89 (both of which are less goa and more trance than tokyo underground) and last feeling (which somehow sounds like a remix of tokyo underground. what's up with that?). though i disagree because it does get better still. bpc is at least as good when talking about hypnotic tracks and soft acidlines. -
Most inappropriate melodies or samples in psytrance
Padmapani replied to recursion loop's topic in General Psytrance
i know from psynews that the sample was taken for some sort of porn movie. though with the words saying "please be careful with the genitals" in german it was no big surprise to me ;). -

andromeda has a thing for ruining serene tracks with cheesy vocals or porn samples. or this one would be one of my favourite tracks ever if it weren't for that sample. my example for porn samples done right would be atmos - klein aber doctor -
Crazy old school Goa tracks (like really crazy)
Padmapani replied to Ormion's topic in General Psytrance
many of the tracks here are pretty average goa tracks. for realy crazy goa try this one: especially the climax at 4:48 -
What do you expect from a Trance dj set?
Padmapani replied to Digitalys's topic in General Psytrance
this! there's nothing worse than frequent and/or long breaks. i'd rather have just a kickdrum playing for hours than the constant stop-and-go of your typical "future prog" set. it's the responsibility of the dj to select the right tracks or play only the parts of a track that keep you dancing. the other major things that break the flow of dancing are bad transitions (obviously), and overuse of fx (some djs just have to use the flanger over and over again. stop it.) for oldschool goa i'd rather hear familiar tracks. if there's something in oldschool goa i still don't know it's most likely because the track just isn't that good. other than that, i'm completely fine with the majority of the tracks being new for me as long as they fit the flow and storytelling. though if the flow and storytelling aren't that good (which is the case 90% of the time), i'd rather dance to tracks that are guaranteed to be good than to average unknown music. what i really don't understand is the obsession with having a dj set made up of only "fresh" new tracks. everything should follow the storytelling of the set and it's completely unrealistic that the perfect parts to tell that story have all been released in the last year or so. if a situation (no matter which subgenre) demands some fullon track from the early 00s, the delta or even mahadeva, then don't hesitate to play the track. don't take some unknown track from 2018 simply because it's "fresh". thus, a properly constructed psy set will inevitably have to contain music spanning two decades. -
it's hard to find anything bad by logic bombs. they made lots of great and a few average tracks. even (seemingly) less exciting tracks like earth orbit, sub atomic or life if a progress bar become great after repeated listening. still, classics like drop out (as well as its remixes drop target and drop by anytime), sonic algebra and neighbor of the beast play in a different league, right up there with mahadeva and asterope.
-
you mean the lazy spiral remix? that one's on flying rhino's first flight.
-
yeah. seems like a continuation of the soft, colourful, melodic sound of artifact303 or mindsphere. it's even more dense and enveloping but lacking a bit in memorable melodies. still, the best release of 2018 so far (and with a january like that, it seems as if 2018 is going to be a great year for goa trance.)

Triquetra - Ecstatic Planet (Suntrip Records)
Padmapani replied to gfp1's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
apart from the "Q" looking like an "O" it's completely fine imho. we've seen plenty of horrible covers in newschool goa but this one is not one of them. -
The Psychedelic Trance, in its entirety
Padmapani replied to Lightforce's topic in General Psytrance
you are a true optimist. we'll have the new astral projection album, hallucinogen 3 as well as a new goa trance album by shakta before ishkur releases an updated version of the edm guide. i was tempted to include the new dimension 5 album that was promised a few years ago, but i haven't quite given up hope yet for that one.- 349 replies

Need some recommendations on Human Blue
Padmapani replied to Void Mantra's topic in General Psytrance
they're all fine. you can't go wrong with any of them (except diskovery channel if you're looking for uptempo music) but electric roundabout has dream creator, so that's be my choice. -
i didn't expect to get the physical cd once the limited edition sells out, but today with file sharing around, i cannot understand why they cannot make the digital version available at a realistic price (500£ for a few unreleaseds and compilation tracks is a bit steep after all).
-
what is this? why haven't i seen this earlier? but i think they're taking the concept of limited edition a bit too far. as of now there's no realistic way to get access to the tracks on the fourth cd (the other ones aren't new to be as they have been released on the web before) anymore.
