i also don't see any other themes with safari 6.2.8 (don't laugh ). it's the same with chrome version 49. are there also themes that don't look like they're made specifically for mobile? right now the list of forums is huge with lots of empty space. in the old version i could see all of the promotional area, the forums and part of the reviews at once. now i can only see the forums from artist news to visual promotion without scrolling. likewise, the posts seem to take up unnecessarily large amounts of space.

Music industry to get it's own cryptocurrency
Padmapani replied to wiz's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
isn't it rather like most other cryptocurrencies? those who make their own version can buy lots of "coins" for cheap in the beginning, so they get filthy rich if the whole thing takes off. if it doesn't (which is pretty likely because we have more than enough cryptocurrencies already) it's just wasted money for everyone involved. -
i never liked avalanche and waves of sound. it went rapidly downhill after his first album. the only exception is his best track: atmosphere. beautiful floating melodies that lift you right into space.

an interesting album. style-wise in between miranda and cydonia, with plenty of energy and good ideas. but the production quality is simply horrible, even for 90s standards, making the album nearly unlistenable. i feel as if an updated version (similarly to what ux did recently) that could fix some of the extremely dated sounds and mixing mistakes could easily make it in the top 5 albums here on psynews.

Unit - Surge [Machine]
Padmapani replied to antic604's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
a bit too slow and minimalistic for my taste, but nicely constructed and atmospheric with proper storytelling. if your typical minimal techno sounded like this i'd actually listen to the genre. -
i'd fly to seville. it's still a 1-2h drive from there to the festival. but since you're from aus, where population density is basically zero, driving from madrid to connection will probably feel like a trip to the grocery store for you (google maps says it's a 5h drive; and unlike in asia these values most often accurate in europe). yes, you should bring a tent (and warm clothes) to the festival area. unlike seville (with day time temperatures of 25-30˚C and night time temperatures 15-20˚C) it can get very cold up there in the mountains (when i was there we had 30˚C in the day and ca. 5˚C at night). but there are places where you can buy/borrow tents in sevilla, so you don't need to ship a tent all the way to the other end of the globe. both madrid and sevilla are nice cities that are well worth staying for a few days. if you've never been to europe you'll surely enjoy seeing medieval city centres and architectural gems.

Are there any "next level" goa/psy producers right now?
Padmapani replied to winterelegy's topic in General Psytrance
isn't this true for pretty much every producer? when you're producing music you take what you love, you preserve what is good and add what you think is missing in your vision for goa trance (or any other genre). no matter where the new elements come from (fullon, techno or psy rock or whatever), you add it because you think it moves the genre forward. so in the producer's opinion he is taking the genre into the future. you think that of your music, i do of mine (to the best of my abilities) and so does probably everyone else. the problem is, that is most likely even true for electro sun, infected mushroom and vini vici we have quite a few producers on here. if anyone disagrees with me and think they produce sound for yesterday and add nothing new to the genre, please speak up -
what a surprising release. the remixes i was looking forward to the most turned out to be the worst, while others turned out great. the great exception here is the gms remix which is exactly as bad as i expected. a mixture between the weird technoid style of eat static and the heavy industrial technoid style of x-dream could have turned out great but with this not-uptempo-but-also-not-downtempo track that's neither exciting nor pleasant they totally missed the mark. also this remix sounds nothing at all like the original. it's as if eat static took one random track that didn't fit anywhere else and labelled it as x-dream remix. i'm not a big fan of shpongle but their remix of out here we're stoned is quite good. not great but good. next is dickster's remix of our own happiness. it's a fullon remix of the classic track. there's nothing more to say about it. dickster can do much better. the sybarite remix of parent plant on the other hand combines modern and original elements with the x-dream track. the result is a track that not only sounds up to date and energetic but perfectly captures the spirit of the original. the atmos remix didn't catch my attention at all. boring. astral did a remix of do you believe and it's one of the rare tracks that are just as expected on here. if you liked their recent goa classics remixed album you'll like this (i do). it's exactly in the same style. 4d is a collaboration between darshan and james monro. these two have put out some hard hitting repetitive technoid psytrance lately on flying rhino. their remix of children of the last generation is much softer and more melodic than their other work. the track is quite ok, but not spectacular. i was really looking forward to midi miliz remixing psychomachine. the track that served as prototype for psytek remixed by a german duo that has brought us hard psy-flavoured techno before. but any such music is totally in the background behind an extra-loud hat with an extremely unnerving swing-rhytm that immediately makes the gorillas of louds "why psytrance has become shit" video appear in my mind. the saafi brothers remix is not as smooth and dubby as their usual stuff, and also not as good. next we see an energetic remix of out here we're stoned by mad tribe (whoever that is). professionally executed, but nothing spectacular. surely great on the dancefloor but not ideal for home listening. then psychoactivity is remixed by joujouka (never heard of them before). not too exciting but with lots of acid. so i'm fine here. manmademan's remix of panic in paradise adds some extra effects to the iconic melody of the track and adds a heavy bassline underneath. a good effort but i still prefer logic bomb's neighbour of the beast (also when compared to x-dream's original) the gms remix isn't a remix of freat but the melodies of different x-dream track thrown mindlessly after one another. worthless. we have a remix of telegram by loud, that takes all the eerie atmosphere and drive out and leaves us with a bland, dry-clean and boring offbeat track. deedrah's remix starts great. lots of movement and energy but the acidline of the second half is horribly out of tune and doesn't fit at all. it could have been great but since the acidline is a prominent element the track is not enjoyable. mwnn rarely makes music that's bad (or just average). so what can we expect of his remix of the second room? this track is pretty melodic retaining most of the original melodies, it contains an updates kick and bassline, there are some original elements but there is pretty much no trace of mwnn's signature sound. it's a good track, but if you told me this is a remix by some previously unknown artist i'd believe it. the second to last track is a remix of intercorporeal stimulator again by midi miliz. again the element that totally dominates this track is a horribly unnerving swing "hat". not only that! it's exactly the same one we saw earlier with psychomachine. unlike psychomachine, this track also doesn't contain any of the elements that made the original track so good (not that intercorporeal stimulator would be as good as psychomachine). i'd rather listen to the remix by gms than this crap. the closing track is bpc remixing clone III. i imagined that bpc would turn this into an ethereal, soft but acidic track. but we rather see a slowed down version that seems to focus on one rather irrelevant melody of the original and repeats it ad nauseum. certainly not the best i've heard of bpc. all in all there are a few good tracks, a few ok tracks and 1-3 awful ones. none are spectacular or groundbreaking. i expect that a few of these tracks will revive some old x-dream tracks for modern dancefloors. if you like x-dream it's a nice addition to your music collection by if you skip this album you won't miss out too much.

use xld. it can convert almost any format into almost anything else. including flac and alac. and it's free btw.

the remix is nice, but missing the "psy". so it will get playtime in my (regular) trance playlist. the original is not interesting enough to make it into any of my playlists. this is really peculiar. i'm not one of those guys who will initiate circles on the dancefloor but rather orient myself for optimal sound. normally that means facing the dj/speakers. however when the dj and speakers are not aligned i'm always fascinated by how people (>75%) will not care about good and balanced sound, but will rather dance in a way that allows them to watch some guy in the distance who is just staring into a laptop screen probably checking his emails...

Wat's the best software to make psytrance?
Padmapani replied to CutoffKnob's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
just in case that anyone else is missing a 64-bit version of smexoscope, the legendary freeware oscilloscope, there now is one! download here. i've been using cheap replacements or 32-bit bridges, both having unnerving drawbacks, for years now. having smexoscope back, running smoothly again, feels liberating -
i totally agree with artifact303; all of his output is either good or great. psy-h project aren't shy to try unusual melodic ideas, sometimes it works out and is great (as in precession of the universe), sometimes they miss the mark. centavra project is always good (though sometimes a bit samey like mindphere). crossing mind has nice atmosphere, but sometimes the melodies and "unsteady" synth patches make it hard for me to like his music. skarma sounds almost exactly like astral projection (just a little more melodic) ; the only issue i have is the muddy mixing (there's often barely any audible kickdrum).

i guess this is the only thread where one can post this video without pissing people off. (tbh, i'm not masochistic enough to listen to anything else posted in this thread )

no, you're not. i can barely bear a whole morphic resonance track. intensity isn't everything and constant intensity for a whole track is like a constant hum instead of a kickdrum. it quickly gets boring instead of exciting. most of the "average" goa trance released in the recent years is a constant assault of either harsh, acidic melodies or soft, pleasant melodies (think mindsphere). having such parts in tracks is perfectly fine, but if it's the whole track it's just tiring. as a consequence most goa trance is also missing the ambience, the atmosphere. one of the reasons why my preferences shifted from fullon to goa trance is that goa trance had the atmosphere and melodies in a time when almost all fullon lacked those. (as you can guess filteria was not my introduction to newschool goa ). don't let this post fool you to think that i'm unhappy with the state of goa trance. it's nothing new that most tracks of a particular subgenre are just average and lacking something a given person will value in music. some time ago most average "goa" had nitzho influences — these times are past, some time ago most newschool goa was fluffy (atmospheric morning sound and there were barely any darker tracks. now we have lots of intense, acidic goa trance of dark and light flavours. in a few years the music will have changed, will miss something different and we will lament about having too much of something else. meanwhile, enjoy some atmospheric goa trance from last year that's completely different than todays "average" goa:

New analog synth for goa recommendation
Padmapani replied to winterelegy's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
good luck with that! tell me when you buy your first ferrari, if it indeed works out i'll forget about goa trance completely and focus only on producing progressive i've heard about this "getting old" thing, but personally i refuse to believe in that. i have friends who now only listen to minimal techno/house or psychill instead of fullon, so it might actually exist, but maybe it just doesn't affect me iono/e-clip is the best kind of progressive. it seems that this style has replaced much of fullon at parties now. even if it's not intentional, the result is an interesting fusion of genres. big melodic climaxes defninitely aren't what you'd normally expect in a proggy track. -
Power Source - XOXO [Dacru]
Padmapani replied to antic604's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
the samples are sounding good. a nice mix of fullon and newschool. but i wouldn't call power source a one-hit-wonder! there's goaway, granada and skywalker. so they're rather a sort of three-hit-wonder there's even a skywalker remix on the tracklist. but isn't the filteria remix the same one we already know from ten spins? -
Looking for a bit of feedback :)
Padmapani replied to psyberscenic's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
the only thing i can hear on my monitors at normal volumes is the thump of the kick, a hint of the bass and some hats. if i turned it up to hear the full track with all the melodies, i'd probably wake the neighbours. i agree with antic: it sounds as if played through a wall. so yeah, your balance is way off on this one. -

so it's progressive instead of fullon now; going with the flow? ap/artifact303-style goa is always appreciated . have you thought about combining the best parts of the proggy and goa? that's probably a pointless question, because listening to your soundcloud i already find some goa influence in most of your tracks -

@recursion loop nice goa demo. are you moving more towards newschool goa with your music? imho lush sounds much better than tal bassline. i guess it's the same as with phoscyon and abl. in each case the latter emulates more of the details correctly, while the former has that indescribable analogue feel giving it an overall fuller/cleaner/smoother — simply better — sound. -

i might be repeating myself, but unless you want to go fully modular, u-he diva is one of the best ananlogue synths out there, even compared to hardware synths that work using an actual analogue signal ms20? check. jupiter 8? check. juno 60? check. minimoog? it sounds more like a minimoog than the minimoog itself. and i do love sending the minimoog oscillator through the jupiter 8 or ms20 filter with precise digital envelopes. -
recent energetic fullon with heavy kicks and interesting developing melodies? try electric universe's last album or hypnocoustics maybe even logic bomb (though that's a little less easy listening than your examples) disorder might also be worth a try but wtf are proggy drops? just kick+bass after a break? fullon has had that sort of thing since day 1 — at a time when proggy didn't. it was only with dubstep exploding across the mainstream of electronic music that the term "drop" has become widespread and that "drops" are somehow viewed as a climax themselves rather than as a part building towards a climax. and i still haven't understood why.

darker? sinister atmosphere? try these: (the whole project genesis album is dark goa) (only the anno domini album is darker — and this more in an atmospheric rather than bypass unit's aggressive way) in addition to the artists mentioned by trunksan there are also cydonia, some of miranda's tracks (gnocchi or her second album), kopfuss resonator (first album), tim schuldt (the next for instance but most of his tracks under various names (mama indica, brain accent, talking souls, diverger, ...), sandman (end of the world!) and tarsis.
