don't forget the associated groups/people: ominus, encens, aeternum. with these two atomatically come duotekk, tranan and illuminus. and then there's also s-range and andromeda.

nice. that's the rare darkpsy i can enjoy. it's a bit similar to lunarave: (don't miss the second half of the track) but less melodic and with a darker atmosphere.

Headphones are my studio (?)
Padmapani replied to Event Horizon's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
ah, yes. for precision eq-ing headphones make it much easier to hear what you're doing. it's just for overall frequency balance and low end that i fail most of the time without monitors. though the a8x have a disadvantage compared to the smaller adams: it's really hard to make something sound horrible when played through them -

i trust my adam a8x monitors in an untreated room more than my akg k701 (should be very similar to the q701). i do have to move around my room to check different (bass) frequency ranges, which can be a bit tedious, but at least i can finally hear the whole bass frequencies with the monitors. i really think these two have completely different "characters" and complement each other perfectly. the a8x have a very pleasant sound with fat bass and extremely precise/flat high end. the k701 are weak on bass, have a very detailed midrange and pretty crisp (or sometimes harsh) treble. if something sounds balanced and good on both, it will sound nice on any other system i have tried (which aren't too many but i couldn't do a mix that sounds decent on all of them with previous setups). -
oldschool: morphem is great. see oopies post. highscore (sadly they only released a couple of compilation tracks) tim schuldt (especially if you're more into darker/industrial sound) slinky wizard (they're also among the less famous i guess?) newschool: ethereal (didn't they promise a new album some time back?) blackstarrfinale (definitely underrated) ypsilon5 (still making goa? any news?) centavra project (iirc there's an album forthcoming on global sect)

oh comeon. yes, the album contributes nothing new and original. yes, the album contains tracks that are all worse (not just a bit) than the originals. yes, talamasca has lost his taste and decency concerning music a long time ago. but this album has many classic goa melodies, making it better than anything released by talamasca since his album made in trance (or arguably zodiac). additionally exactly the same reason makes it better than most other popular psytrance released nowadays. would you rather go to a party with talamasca, where you'll hear nice melodies you know and love in a fullon frame framework, or go to listen to cheesy crap in a fullon framework (electro sun, perplex, ...) or boring crap in a progressive framework (neelix, captain hook, vini vici, ...)? you still prefer talamasca? i thought so.

it's actually not that bad. yes, it uses all the cheap tricks of commercial fullon, but it's has great goa trance melodies (obviously) so it's better than most other more popular psytrance anyway. i actually wanted to see his show when he came to town, but sadly i fell asleep, not after hearing his music but after a long day at work before i even went there.

Is going to Transylvaliens by myself worth?
Padmapani replied to Mahasamatman's topic in General Psytrance
i guess it's already too late now, but seville is a nice city, well worth a visit in itself. and prepare for really cold nights at connection. while it will be as nice and hot in the day as down at the coast, the nights bring totally unexpected temperature drops up there in the mountains. in sevilla you could walk around in the t-shirt at late night, then at connection i had two sweaters plus a warm jacket. -
there are plenty such tracks. just to name a few. to be honest i prefer goa trance 145-150 i can only imagine how energetic plastic could have been if it had been composed at such tempos (pitching it up sadly distorts the balance too much and therefore doesn't do it justice)

i don't like to go fully digital either (it just feels completely different when you browse through the booklet and enjoy the artwork while listening to the album), but i start to see the inevitability of the switch coming. after the last shipment arrived, my external cd drive wouldn't read the cds, so i had to insert the discs at an older computer in the house. the whole process of ripping 3 cds and transferring it to my library took half an hour. that's certainly not a way for the future

Albums similar to Trancemutation Of The Mind?
Padmapani replied to MrAnarchy's topic in General Psytrance
for good proggy with goa influences, i'd recommend soul kontakt. besides ovnimoon and soul kontakt i don't know any artist who makes exactly this kindof music between goa and progressive. old human blue is also a mix of those but in a completely different way. -
i don't like their dakpsy/forest much (it's an innovative take but still has everything i don't like about that genre), but they make great weird psychill. @topic i'd have to agree with simon, mwnn, but also have to add chi-a.d. and eat static (and let's not forget etnica/pleiadians; whoever is responsible for the melodies in ifo is certainly among the most talented). especially eat static fits antic's description of making good, innovative music regardless of the genre and the circumstances — in addition to playing a part in shaping the sound of goa/psy.

what do you expect at that time of the day? back then, electronic music that didn't attract old people like ourselves, who have mostly adapted to the sleep schedule of the square majority society, but young people who prefer to party from dusk till dawn. -
he's on the lineup for balkan goa fanatics this year.

then you missed the point. it was about the oriental melodies making the impression of being badly/inaccurately copied. this apparently makes some of us sceptical about the rest of the album. it's not being sceptic if they can make a whole pleiadians remix album (this is obviously the case as we're discussing it right now). but some people (including me) think that you shouldn't do a remix if you cannot get the original melodies right (of course you might intentionally change melodies when remixing which is fine, but unless we got official word from the artist we have to judge ourselves if that's the case if they don't match), so we question if the album is up to that standards.

to be honest i don't like the music of this compilation too much. the only really good track on here is the goaway remix, and that's because it's pretty much the same as the original. even the usual top artists like artha or e-mantra only contributed disappointing tracks.

i have really tried to enjoy this album as much as most of you guys do. while i cannot find a single track on here to be anything lower than above average, i still find myself skipping the tracks of this album when they come up. it's acidic, intense, atmospheric, melodic but not of the over-the-top-oriental-scale-random-nonsense kind. so in theory it should be great stuff, but i guess it's just too much. the constant barrage of always very similar intrusive acid-like sounds trying to grab my attention makes it seem like a constant noise background. it's like he tries to outdo filteria's sky input by putting on layers upon layers of even intenser stuff; and he succeeds, but the effect not a ever-moving wall of sound you can get lost in, but that all sense of direction and movement is lost. somehow it's like sky input^2 with the dark/industrial vibe tim schuldt's music has. i can see a track of this album fitting perfectly into nighttime dj sets, but listening to the whole album would be way too tiring.

after my appreciation of artha's new album has levelled out (not decreased, mind you), i find that my enjoyment of this album is still growing. the first half the predator remix is stellar — something that has stood out to be at the first listen — the original sounds bland and dull in comparison, but lately i'm really enjoying the mystical last section of sacred sands and crossing planet. the latter reminds me of ROM but is even more energetic and intense. 12th hour is supposed to fill the role of the euphoric trancy morning track that time current has on 9th, but while it's more dancable it doesn't have the same magic. terra and touch a star are both good and up to ra's standards, but not as spectacular as the rest. causatum is rather boring compared to light receiver or sirius. all in all i think that earthcall, while not quite as good as 9th, is on par with to sirius. stylistically it's somewhere between the darker mysterious sound of to sirius and the clean smooth feel of 9th. tl;dr: everything by ra is an instant classic.

The ins and outs of psytrance bassline
Padmapani replied to recursion loop's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
really useful and precise tutorial. but at the same time it's totally technical, reminding me of cosmosis' tips to use your ears instead of spectrum analysers and to not overthing technicalities but instead spend more time focusing on the actual music as always it's good to know skills but even more important to know when to use them- 57 replies

Andromeda - Equilibrium ( NEW ALBUM!)

you should have listened to the complete tracks before posting your bullshit on psynews. this album is a total disappointment. the only parts that aren't boring are sickingly cheesy. -
