it's the same with those involved in the drug war. everyone knows it's a huge failure, but too many people involved would risk their job if they told publicly what they got to know in the course of their career. the only people who'll speak up are often those who have already retired. even in science it happens on a smaller scale. scientists know that a certain method is a dead end, but they keep using it and publishing papers, pretending it's useful in order to get funding, so that they can pay all the people they use for proper research (which is not as easily marketable).

divide et impera has been a very successful strategy for easily governing conquered provinces and a recipe for almost guaranteed violence once the conqueror relinquishes control. we've seen and still see the consequences for for singhalese vs. tamils, hutu vs. tutsi but also sunnites vs. shiites vs kurds in syria right now... really it happened to some degree in almost any larger country that was colonised. afaik islam came to india with muslim conquerors, lots of wars and violence against minorities. if you say that balance and peace were established some time before the british conquered india i'll take your word for it. there's hope that achieving unity again won't take another few hundred years

try this (don't just skip through it. listen to the whole thing. i dare you ) : also there was an incredibly bad promo video (styled much like one of those "media shop" tv commercials) for omegahertz (iirc) showcasing some of his worst stuff, but i can't find it anymore.

there's also goa trance: aerosis, though we haven't heard a new track from them for a while. otherwise, the only well-known artist from the us i know is chromatone.

most of them are the refined derivaties of american music. america invented rock music, britain brought it to perfection with prog rock (or whatever variant of rock you think is best ). ultimately, all metal is a derivate of rock. america invented house/techno and britain / europe used that to develop rave, dnb, dubstep, ... / trance, hardcore, ...

the topic explicitly stated that it's only about oldschool. besides, the choices (wonderboy, omegahertz) would be too obvious.

it seems like the usual course for music genres is: there's a radical new idea in the us. it gains at least regional popularity, but they don't really develop it much further. instead it travels over the atlantic and the europeans (mostly the brits) tweak it to perfection. we'd both miss out on a lot if one side failed to deliver. the only big genres that don't fit into that scheme are blues and hiphop. both are so deeply rooted in black culture that the europeans (lacking a sizeable black population) cannot improve it or even reproduce it on the same level.

the psy scene is the spiritual successor to the hippies of the 60s and 70s. obviously freedom, love, peace, individualism and hedonism are commonly found values and many people have little respect for mainstream society. of course psychedelics can also nudge you into that direction by making you realize that violence and inequality are pointless... conservatism is all about preserving traditional values of mainstream society, placing more value on businesses and money than individual people, waging war if it's economically or stategically reasonable, law&order, enforcing social hierarchies and social norm as well as being generally sceptical about change/all things foreign. so conflict with the psy scene is inevitable. over here the psy scene is mostly older party people roughly around 25-30 (many "retire" from other scenes with harder music, more drugs and/or wilder, often illegal parties.), so you'll have lots of people who are beyond the age when they think they'll change the world. you rather have people who want to escape the shitty, conservative world full of injustice and responsibilities and just have fun for a weekend without worries. psytrance and psy parties are great of putting you into an imaginary alternate reality. i don't know if that's what you mean by "fucking shit up" or if psy parties fill a gap because you don't have aforementioned harder/wilder parties in your area. shamanic healing cocepts at parties? we actually have that (along with non-smoking, all-vegan and no-shoes-dancing) but it's (thankfully) a minority program. all that esoteric stuff only become popular in the 80s with the new age movement. thus it's not an integral part of the of the original hippie culture the psy scene often draws its insipiration from. of course esoteric stuff is still rampant, but a large part of the psy community is simply not into that sort of thing.

maybe you tried to make the following track seem extra awesome by contrasting it with the above?

here you go, try this: the majority of the track is very boring, mainly rhytm elements with an annoying timbre played with an annoying rhytm. this is followed by pointless melodies with out of tune notes at the end. or maybe this: it has increadibly annoying patches playing annoying out of tune melodies that don't fit together with the other elements of the track.

yeah, sorta reminds me of my time in montana... i actually like that track.

there are imho lots of recent releases that brought something new and creative, developing goa trance further. filteria's daze and lost, artha, nova fractal, the world beyond, lastest oforia, ... none of these sound like oldschool or even mid 00s goa trance. i passionately hate every single cheesy piece of "music" mozart has created. i doubt that any newer classical music comes close to being so annoying. i'd rather listen to alien jesus.

first impressions: this album sounds like it's straight out of 2006, just like the first wave of newschool goa. a mixture of copying oldschool and trying to adapt modern music while leaving out everything that was characteristic of the other subgenres of psytrance (plus lots of focus in the often eastern melodies). if it was released back then, people would be all over it (everything goa was fresh and there were few releases). but since it's 2016 and goa has evolved since, now including many more sounds and concepts than ten years ago, this album has a bit of a "heard before" or even retro feeling to it. to me it's like the lowest common denominator of goa trance. i see nothing bad about this album at all, if i heard it 10 years earler i'd be all over it "woohoo melodies, finally! and no stupid fullon gimmicks! this is what i've been looking for!", but now it's one album of many, not exploring any new territory, so i it's really just average. the only thing i've really never seen before is having the full cover of another album in the artwork. i found it quite funny

@inequality i couldn't agree more. and the worst thing is that inequality is increasing instead of decreasing, even if you look at only one country. the promise of more wealth for everyone by the economists and all those proponents of free trade and gobalisation turned out to be more wealth for the extremely wealthy and less for anyone else... what are pulses? dhal? i guess in most other countries you'd have a revolution within a few weeks if the prices of basic food quadrupled...

this one has been playing quite often in my head, especially the "hardcore, schnitzelcore" part. the track used to be fun in its absurdity the first time i heard it, but its already become annoying.

yeah, we have needle exchange programs (though mostly not through pharmacies but streetworkers) and substitution programs (i think we're the only country that has the option for morphine). @starkraver demand pull inflation for foodstuff is something that sounds really strange to us. our farmers regularly throw destroy milk to keep the prices stable. some time ago they were thinking about doing the same for fruits, now that we cannot export to russia (stupid sanctions, but that's another topic.) anymore. crazy... that plate looks delicious

i think a good chance to see what mastering would typically do is comparing goasia's track on golden vibes ii to a random track from their first album. the track on golden vibes is unmastered and although they are different tracks you can clearly hear some differences (goasia is pretty consistent in style and mixing). the mastered tracks are louder, have a different balance (more bass), sound more in-your-face and have more clarity. of course mastering done by the artists themselves can sometimes be at least as good. recursion loop's track above sounds way better with his own mastering, artifact303's track feelings sounded better slightly with his own mastering than final version which ended up on opus iridium (but there the mastering was still pretty good — i just like the original frequency balance better). on other occasions mastering by the artists turns out horrible (e.g. astral projection's recent remix album, which is totally overcompressed) and having mastering done by a professional is preferable in almost all cases.

austerity measures and heavy cuts in the social systems reduce the income of the people, especially in southern europe. this is one factor that leads to relatively low prices (people cannot afford so many things anymore, so if you want to continue selling your product you cannot ask more than before). in the light of this, companies don't want to invest, becase they don't see a lot of return for their investment. and if the investors expect higher returns in the financial markets than in the real economy it wouldn't make any sense of them to lend their money to companies that actually produce something and create real jobs. the boneheaded politicians see that their policies are failing, but are completely perplexed and don't question their neo-classical economics at all. so if something doesn't work, they respond by giving us more of the same. that the ecb is not allowed to directly buy government bonds, but only buys them second hand from banks, also makes this measure have less effect than it could be. now banks buy government bonds, sell them to the ecb at a higher price with zero risk and therefore get what is basically free money. forcing banks to adjust their interest rates is unthinkable here. apparently the bankers have comparatively little power compared to the government in india... can the central bank directly buy government bonds in india? if it does so liberally, inflation wouldn't surprise me. yeah, i've seen the plastic everywhere at the simpler restaurants in goa. it's not nice to eat from and creates a lot of rubbish that's often left somwhere in the landscape. china/glassware is certainly better (especially as long term solution), but with all the nice metal pieces you have in india i don't really see a reason to use them either. thali should be served with a banana leaf on a metal tray . and as long as there is the option for a fork even us foreigners can eat the rice coconut water is great. it not only tastes good but has lots of electrolyts and is sterile. but how am i supposed to drink it without a straw? i'd pour the good coconut water all over myself it surely would. and i'll definitely come back to india some day. but for next year my friends are already talking about sri lanka (partly because no one got sick there the last time )

i love the british sound. D5, hallucinogen, eat static, mwnn, chi-a.d., shakta cosmosis,... but i preferring softer melodic sound (and the british excel here too) i'm in the mahadeva camp. what's really sad is that the british with their apparently inborn talent to make great music (also evidenced by their dnb, rock, ... you name it) don't contribute any artists to the newschool goa scene... inspired by the other thread i'd like to add all battle of the future buddhas albums to my list of dislike. it's also not that i generall dislike all darker/industrial stuff. tim schuldt, the delta, kopfuss resonator, planet ben, midi miliz ... are all fine for me. maybe there's a divide between german techy, dark and harsh sound and swedish noisy, dark and harsh sound?

it is intense and acidic, but overly harsh and "loud". it's ok, but i really don't see what most reviewers see. yeah. i love his style, but we get lots and lots of tracks that in the end all sound the same. definitely. there's not a single track on that album that i like. it sounds dated, amateurish and the melodies are annoying. come on, eye to eye is a classic. the definition of isreali morning fullon

the latest hux flux album. it's good fullon with some classic hux flux weirdness. not quite as good as division by zero but thankfully more melodic and not as noisy as cryptic crunch.

interesting. the only album of theirs that imho has a different sound than the others is amen. other than that i find the albums rather interchangable (except for a slight concentration of the better tracks in trust in trance and dancing galaxy).
