eat static, x-dream, juno reactor, koxbox, the delta, ...? even if it just was just another goa compilation it would be interesting with that kind of tracklist

astrix and azax made some fine tracks back in the day. but the "best of" lists you were linking to in your first post are from a small but popular (at least in isreal or brazil, much less so in europe) fringe of all that is labeled psytrance. they are at the very edge of the definition of psytrance and most psy heads who have been in the scene for more than 5 years or so will tell you to get lost with that commercial bullshit. many tracks are really just like commercial pop music + a fullon/progressive beat and that's it. a kickdrum generated by the IM method coupled with a sawtooth bass that plays on every 1/16 isn't enough to make a piece of music psytrance. i don't agree at all with jason that psytrance should be dark, but imho psytrance should be "psy", which quite frankly excludes most of the tracks from your listing. my favourite artists? they make goa trance and not fullon or progressive. but my favourite fullon is stuff like that: Logic Bomb - Drop Target (Rmx) Silicon Sound - Nexus 6 (Rmx) (you see there's a lot of space between dark and cheese) while my favourite progressive is music such as this: Human Blue - Dream Creator E-Clip - Asia Tribe you know neelix brags about how sloppily he works with using presets/samples and not contributing original ideas, but instead finishing a track in 3 hours or so. and while his production does sound polished, it's evident that mass produced tracks like that cannot be as original and interesting as music made by people who actually care enough about the music they are making that they decide to put some effort and research into what they're doing...
-
sesto sento, electro sun, perplex, intersys, neelix? more like the worst psytrance ever made.

Which Goa/NeoGoa artists have you seen live?

i've got a few photos i'll probably put up on goabase in the coming days... i've also got a nice cold from the nighttime tempatures, but luckily these things surface only after the festival ends but... etnica! so many classics (including much of ifo) on a big sound system for the first time not to mention the many many other great goa trance artists. i'm not used to dancing to much that my feet still hurt days after the festival

mousepads... when listening to a whole rack of different kinds of monitors before buying anything, i was quite impressed with some of the yamahas. not quite as clear as the more expensive ones obviously, but imho the pair of 200€ yamaha monitors sounded flatter and more precise than any model from krk (even ones for double the price) they had in the shop. 60hz? i can imagine that being pretty boring or outright impossible without a sub for electronic music. no need for a sub was a criterion. sub placement is often problematic (and my room and setup is fucked up enough as it is ) as well as having the monitors cut off and the sub coming in at the right point in the freq. spectrum... they claim that going up to 50khz guarantees a flat freq response. i rather suspect that these ribbon tweeters (which really do sound nice) just up to 50khz without any hassle, and they use that for marketing purposes. no one's going to hear even half the frequency they claim anyway i certainly don't hear anything above 18-19khz and i'm still fine compared to many others of my age...

there should have been some discussion of the genelecs up there, but apparently the board software ate it. also i just replied to this post, but stupid me inadvertently closed the wrong browser window just before hitting "post", so i'll just give you the short version now: genelecs sound nice for goa trance and seem to be pretty linear. they would have been my second choice for monitors (didn't take them because the comparable model would have cost 200€ more and didn't sound quite as clear, while having better midrange and not quite as good bass). mine are adam a8x. they go from 38hz to 50khz and cost me 600 and something a piece. i don't think the equipment should match your production skills. even if you don't produce any music, you still have an awesome sound system for listening if you have nice speakers
-
me too. we'll rather stay one more day to explore sevilla than sit on still-deserted festival grounds (not knowing which post to trust) have you seen any updates on the timetable on their facebook?

monitors: i'm still in the phase of internalising their sound. not quite ready for mixing on these yet, but for the first time i can actually hear enough bass and subbass to make decisions based on what i hear rather than guesswork headphones: also very nice, but very different sound than my monitors. interface: does its job. i don't feel that there any real differences as long as you don't buy a 15€ piece of garbage. it sounds nearly as good if i use the analog output of my computer instead. the only thing is that without the interface there are very audible humming and hissing noises at higher volumes. the reason i chose this over other interfaces is just that my headphones require lots of power to drive and the ur22 was better in this respect than the competition.

agreed. schranz lacks atmosphere and has become stereotypical very quickly (when you can have a "schranz remix" of any arbitrary track, you know that the genre has become too formulaic and is basically dead). regarding the minimal stuff i have to disagree. i don't know how it is in the ruhrpott but in vienna you have to go to underground parties if you want to listen to music like many post here in this thread. over here the "techno" you usually get is more commercial, with a "plastic" sound, 110-120bpm maximum and much closer to house than anything posted here.
-
nice, so we're going to be at least five psynewsers then does anyone of you guys know specifics about the pre- and afterparty? everywhere you look they say something different…

Anyone been to a GMS gig the past 5 years?
Padmapani replied to Trunksan's topic in General Psytrance
especially in the psy scene you'll quickly get attacked for "bringing negative energy" or "destroying the shanti vibe" when you point out negative things. i've long given up on that. appropriately, if you look on goabase you'll see that 99% of the parties are rated as "very good" or "exceptional, one of a kind" with only a tiny fraction rated as "average" or worse... -

what i ment in the post about nova fractal was that it's the part scandinasia was referring to but yeah, liquid paradise is similar in style. for bizarre contact, while a nice track, i don't really see too many parallels.
-
i'd put that in the same category as the two tracks above
-
^ judging by the 10 top albums you posted in the other thread, i figured i might like it. but while i see the atmosphere, the album has the same typical darkpsy kick/bass, that i think has no energy, and lots of harsh fm-lead sounds. these two would be (rare) examples of (less than a decade old) darkpsy that i find ok. with less of those stereotypical sounds, some atmosphere and darkpsy out and out. not that i'd like a whole album of that stuff, but at the right places in a dj set such tracks can really shine.

following that path, i've stumbled on this (among other things) : thanks again cybernetika. i've discovered a whole lot of new good music tonight
