The Psychedelic Trance, in its entirety
Padmapani replied to Lightforce's topic in General Psytrance
it's complicated. psytek is the same thing many people call (psychedelic) techtrance. but in the last few years people have been calling the progressive / minimal techno crossover stuff "psy techno". using the name "psy tech" is fine, even though "psytek" has been the most common term, since it was called that in ishkur's guide to electronic music (but ishkur mixes it up with "minimal psytrance" which is what your purplish "dark psyprog" bar represents). the other subgenre is universally called "psy techno" or "psytechno" (or "progressive trance" or "progressive psytrance", but let's not go down that rabbit hole again…)- 349 replies

Share your "embarrassing" tracks made by you
Padmapani replied to Manuser's topic in General Psytrance
my first ever track is lost forever (good riddance!), so i present to you my second track from 2007. http://picosong.com/uccy/ i didn't know how to program synths properly*, nor did i really understand how to use logic. and gaining that knowledge by experimenting did take a while, so i'll spare you my third and fourth track; these two are even more horrible. *my method was to tweak some mystery knobs, listen if anything changed and hope that i stumble upon something that sounds decent by accident. needless to say, i ended up with lots of "funny" patches with extreme settings for completely irrelevant parameters and complicated work in the mod matrix to the effect of simply raising the filter cutoff a little -
The Psychedelic Trance, in its entirety

i'd let oldschool goa trance start before suomi and experimental. after all it's what led to the creation of the others (except psybient). there was some proper goa around in 1994, so it won't be counterfactual. edit: seems like there's much agreement here also i'd move the boundary between oldschool and newschool to 2002 or 2003. the reason being etheral's album and the (clearly newschool) blissful moments compilation. i think nitzhogoa started earlier. basically with lost buddha's releases in 2006. if you add "pre-fullon", i'd also add "post-fullon" starting in 2008. the sound changed much more in 2008 than it did in 2001. another thing that's puzzling me is psybreaks starting in 1995? some breakbeats in chillout tracks were present of course, but it's all psybient to me. psybreaks as a genre with the heavy beat of "breakbeat" must surely be a thing of the 00s??- 349 replies

and both his released tracks are on these compilation series that explains it. this is definitely something to watch out for.

what is this? definitely newschool. i have no idea how this has flown under my (our?) radar... the style sounds a bit like something from the call of goa compilations, maybe ephedra, tavi or jbc arkadii?

tbh, if someone asked me for one album representing dark goa trance, i'd most likely recommend in fear of a red planet. likewise i'd have no qualms about recommending anything by mwnn as an example for oldschool goa trance. to me it's rather the definition of the genre than an experimental offshoot.- 349 replies

be aware that most artists from the 90s make radically different music now. don't expect koxbox, laughing buddha, electric universe and tristan to play goa trance. but tbh, they are imho still better than many others on the lineup. it wholly depends on what you're after. for fullon, burn in noise and avalon should make decent music. for psytrance martian arts is a good choice. if you're into dark, mechanical progressive, then go to hypogeo. i'm not into darkpsy so i cannot comment on that besides that i still enjoyed penta's sets (a few years ago) even though i don't like darkpsy.

not quite sure yet, but very likely.

i only knew #6 and i'm not proud of that. never heard of any of the others, even when reading the answers.

labels for fullon would be: 3d vision, hom-mega, phonokol and tip world. for dark prog: zenon. (obviously) for progressive, iboga is another important one (even though they deviate a lot from psy nowadays)- 349 replies

it's a great melody, making this track one of the 150 tracks (out of >4500) that get a 5 star rating from me. i especially the melody at 4:49 or more specific the transition from the third bar of that melody to the fourth is nice. but it really sounds dated and could use a refresh. preferably with a bit of un-nitzho-ing . good luck to anyone trying that. with the lead sounding so dirty and the generous use of portamento it's not going to be an easy task.

thanks, i indeed found good mixes, from around 2000

you're not alone at all. the only thing that's better about dragon tales is the artwork

Eat Static - Dead Planet [Mesmobeat]

come on, his music has always been riddled with cheesy 50s alien samples so that the cover is only appropriate. -

not bad, but not quite the style i'm looking for. but it still was a great tip. while looking for the track i found this dj set by him and the majority of the tracks exactly the right kind of techno for me (12:00, 18:20!, 35:40, 50:10, 1:01:00) now i'll only have to look for a tracklist. it's from 2000, so i slowly get the suspicion that i not only prefer oldschool goa to most newer psytrance, but also prefer oldschool techno to more modern variants

the situation in failed states or genocide is the complete opposite of anarchy. the term anarchy is only associated with such things because it is used by the media (and the majority of people) as a synonym for chaos. an anarchistic society is not a chaotic one. neither is it one without police of government (in a sense). the difference is that police are appointed by the people and act in the interest of the people; they don't follow orders and directives from above because there exists no above. government exists in a sense that people govern themselves, but not that some untouchable group of people (be it the wealthy, kings, politicians, ...) impose their will on a large group of people, most often against the interests of the majority. anarchy means that there are no hierarchies and that no one has the power to dictate (or end) anyone else's life. so the warlords in somalia or any other failed state with their strict hierarchies and wars are the exact opposite of anarchy. if there is one main principle (or law if you will) of anarchism, it is that your freedom ends when it infringes on another person's freedom. so murder can never be acceptable, neither can theft or violence of any kind. i think there is no doubt that, in theory, anarchy is the best society humans can live in. the question is: can it work like this in practice? many peolple have had their ideas and some could work while others certainly don't (the communism marx envisioned (a stateless, classless, moneyless society, ...) is basically a particular form of an anarchist society, but his way towards communism, namely state socialism, that involves a few taking power and exercising it over the masses obviously leads down the path to a authoritan dicatatorship). other approaches like makhnovia (anarcho-communism) or anarchist spain (anarcho-syndicalism, anarcho-collectivism and anarcho-communism side by side) have worked surprisingly well until they were invaded and crushed by the soviet union or the franco regime (with aid from hilter, although the soviet union also had their hands in this) respectively.

Psynews meeting on the Balkan Goa Gathering? :)
Padmapani replied to Anoebis's topic in General Psytrance
south is accurate enough. it's just good to know that i'll have to look for someone to share the driving. the north is perfectly doable, but croatia has too long of a coastline i would gladly pay more for more artists/a longer festival. it really was dirt cheap last year, especially with presale. -

so it's not going to be in the same place? any idea what part of croatia it's going to be? i'm wondering how the final lineup will look like (hoping for artifact303 ) anyway, this makes me feel a lot better about having missed oddvod gathering last weekend -
