really strange music. a section that sounds like newschool goa, followed by incredible cheese, followed by a way too long break/build that's reminiscent of early 00s stadium trance and goes on and on an on..., followed by a section that sounds like newschool goa. i wonder who will listen to that sort of thing...

i've listened to the samples, but it's not my cup of tea (the last track is quite ok though). tbh, i don't think the tags are too far off... it's civilised, soft, mostly >135bpm and funky. i love techno that sounds more like an assembly line than music (with more of a warehouse than club vibe) there's no layer that bothers me. i'm just wondering why i don't find more techno of this style. i always keep coming back to dave the drummer for that sound. did all the harderm raw-sounding techno merge into schranz and disappear when schranz became forumulaic and subsequently fell out of fashion? most of the techno i hear in this thread or elsewhere is so clean and laid-back in comparison. it's good music but imho something for a second floor instead of the main floor . maybe it sounds different when pitched up (though not to the max, there are other genres that sound better at those speeds), but i'm just a listener, not a dj and there must be people who produce banging techno in the 140-155 range. after all it's a genre that spans a wide range from just above 100 to 200.

nice to see that this thread is getting some love again. but why is it that the faster (you know, psytrance speed) tracks with a more raw sound almost always have some tb-303 action? not that i dislike acidlines, i just can't believe that there isn't much more such music without acid

except for this sample there are literally thousands of progressive tracks that sound exactly like that. good luck anyway...

does anyone else find it strange that this timetable ends around midnight?

depends on the genre. the freetekno scene is highly political and that is often reflected by the music. i've heard tracks with chopped up speeches of our (now former) minister of interior at parties, as well as attacks on right wing parties, anti-capitalism samples, ... i have no problem with political content in psy, but it has to be done in a way more subtle way. in a way doof's youth of the galaxy fits in here "it's time to demand our freedom", just like the fullon on tracks with "there must be security and justice for all or no one is secure" or something

at least he didn't copy the melody/progression 1:1 and brought the whole thing to a completely different genre. it might even (or might not, who knows...) have been without conscious intent. remember how dog days bliss from filteria's latest album contains almost the same melody as chakra's liquid troll. sometimes a pregression you know but have forgotten about just sounds right when you're playing around. for a definite ripoff that became a classic just like the original (i can't imagine how anyone who's that much into trance that he produces his own tracks can forget about the original), look no further than here (even though we've had these tracks here before iirc) :

not only this, but it's also incredibly dull compared to the original. it's just the main melody + kickdrum.

nice. -
rotwang posted the original (at least in edm). apparently the original original () is indeed from dead can dance. here's another one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peE0NvF1SS0&list=PLwYcncl_0_6w2e9qyqGyBVxShtQMQ6pAZ&index=8 btw, if you haven't noticed already, we have a normal trance thread in the other electronica section.

didn't hux flux have 5 members at the time of cryptic crunch? mystery of the yeti had 6 members if you want to count that.

the great majority is night fullon, not twilight. CPU made some harder, noisier fullon back in the day. the only thing that's from twilight are those way-too-detuned leads that i don't particularily like. still, if night fullon once again replaces darkpsy at nightime at the parties/festivals i'll be a happy person .

both are great monitors, but the a8x are a bit different. the a7x are extremely crisp in the mids, which are more subdued (still very much there but not as present — not as present as they should be according to some) with the a8x, but the bass . it nearly feels as if you're standing in front of a festival rig (except for it sounding much clearer of course) and of course the highs are equally great on both models. i have a feeling they're going to complement my headphones really nicely. i've listened to a few half-mixed tracks of mine that sound great on the headphones and they are completely out of place and dull compared to professionally mastered tracks. if something sound good on both of them, it'll probably sound good anywhere...

and they sound gorgeous.

these videos shake two of my previously firmly-held believes: 1. gms were already pretty bad when i saw them in 2011 or something. (i could actually dance to some of the stuff and a cheap remix of the age of love was the highlight of their set) 2. "fullon" (well, what some people still call "fullon") cannot possibly go lower than electro sun - out of your love or perplex vs. intersys - glorious times that's not exactly what i'd call "the crowd goes wild". for me that would imply them going wild dancing to the music and trancing out (just like you see on the videos of the goa trance parties in belgium), but that's clearly not happening here. they're cheering, putting their hands up in the air, imitating the moves of the gms guys and so on. rather something you'd expect to happen at a gigi d'agostino (or whoever has taken his place as the #1 commercial-electronic-pop-bullshit-music producer now; is it david guetta? avici or how they're called?) show. you can do such things when you're hyped by some kind of music, but you cannot when you're actually lost in the music. </rant>

that's a very difficult question. i'll try three tracks and we'll see if you find (some of) them similar for at least two of them it's arguable if they are psytrance, and all of them go into (or come from) a tech-y direction with a dark sort of atmosphere, but still some melody. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_dekMu6BZs
-
i'd say it's somewhere between ebm/industrial, psytrance and techtrance. it doesn't really sound like either, so i guess it would fit into any of these categories if you like
-
who? i've never heard of them before
