  1. Auricular Cosmosis Dimension 5 Orion Power Source Spirallianz Total Eclipse Xenomorph
  2. 3 years ago or so i've decided not to go to a psy party in thailand again as they had gotten way commercial than anything you'll find in europe (except maybe the small darkpsy parties in the jungle in koh phangan or the big festivals). this year i've been in koh phayam on the west coast, a nice islands with an alternative/hippie crowd and went to a "fullmoon party" at the "hippie bar", expecting either psytrance or something like psyrock. what i got was 80s hits, so if you want at least some kind of psy, then you definitely have to go to koh phangan.
  3. perfectly clear sky here, but to be honest i found the last partial eclipse more spectacular when the sun fromed a nice crescent visible with the naked eye right after sunrise. that was a special scene. as it was just one hour from noon now (10:42 here), you couldn't see anything (except the decreased daylight) without special glasses.
  4. "not on label" is the fourth best downtempo label
  5. not necessarily. too cheesy for my usual goa playlist, so avalanche and for the people reside in my trance playlist instead along with waves of sound (which is even more cheesy) but generally we're used to much worse cheese from fullon (ahem... electro sun....), so it's (mostly) fine. everything is relative. also, there are many "trancy" goa tracks, which for almost all of us (at least us goa nerds) are below the cheese threshold while still having beautiful and simpler melodies. try these: 3:41! 7:59. 3:49!
  6. this. but i'd call the former two "psy" to distinguish them from number 3, (maybe unsuccessfully) trying to prevent confusion. btw: what is this "psytechno" anyway. i never know if it's the minimal with a few psy sounds or stuff like x-dream's irritant.
  7. Khetzal - Corolle Ra - 9th Filteria - Daze of our lives Artifact303 - Back to Space Artha - Influencing Dreams. imho all of them are on the same level of awesome as the classics from the 90s such as dancing galaxy, ifo or twisted. that is only including artist albums and without any re-releases, unreleaseds from back then or anything...
  8. not talent. it's the amount of people in a psy "group" that don't make that much of a difference nowadays due to technology. work that depended on lots of button pushing and knob twisting at exactly the right time can now be done sequentially without pressure.
  9. well, it's not really techy or "robotrip" downtempo, but i'd certainly appreciate more darker downtempo like seamoon or tengri...
  10. i don't want to cause too much work, but i'd like to give the first three downtempo albums the same amount of points. i imagine numbering them 2,2 and 2 (just like we see in the poll results) instead of 1,2 and 3 would do the trick while keeping the total amount of points the same.
  11. there isn't any way to give the same amount of points to multiple albums? i've got some serious issues with putting my downtempo voting in the correct order
  12. five years ago there are parties in regular venues as well as in remote locations (these are usually better). food is definitely dodgy and i wouldn't recommend eating anything that hasn't been cooked (including fruit juices) in most restaurants. i don't know anyone who has made it for more than 2 weeks without any digestion problems when i was there we didn't have a tight budget, but in arambol there wasn't even a room with air condition or humanely soft beds to spend our money on. nowadays it's probably different down in anjuna/vagator and very likely different even further south in palolem. you can even book package holidays there...
  13. wrong. we humans can certainly change our environment
  14. apparently. i was in february 2010 and wasn't impressed. there weren't many parties and it was all minimal...
  15. i've never done that, but one popular choice for many asian countries is working as an english teacher. some even take any foreigner, others require you to be a native speaker (thailand has required a university degree of any kind for a few years now). also, i've heard that a popular way to finance a party-traveller-lifestyle in freetekno scene is dealing drugs
  16. i'm talking about the various "social democratic" parties over here in europe . the best example is the greek pasok imploding and the voters switching over to syriza because the social democrats have drifted so far to the right as to be almost indistinguishable from the conservatives. or if you look to germany a decade ago, the social democracts together with the greens implemented a program of social cuts that's like the wet dream of every conservative. it's not much different for labour in the u.k. or really anywhere else. i guess the democrats and republicans in the u.s. would also qualify... we don't know if anarchy works unless we give it a try. things have looked pretty good in spain and the ukraine until they were invaded and defeated. to be completely honest, i don't even think that a first try will lead to a stable and ideal system. after all, the french revolution led to the dictatorship of napoleon... but the idea all humans should have equal rights and that no one should have power over others (which has been proven in history to always lead to corruption, exploitation and violence) is just so obvious, that we should try to get as close to that ideal as possible. i think that you'd have to be very idealistic to believe that a society with hierarchies can be a just and humane society at all i'm not scandinasia, but you shouldn't confuse market economy with capitalism. there are even multiple left-wing branches of anarchism that embrace a market economy.
  17. eye of the beholder indeed. i thought the hermit's sanctuary was his weakest downtempo album; probably also because i've been used to e-mantra-style downtempo and the third album just seemed like more of the same. echoes from the void is different. the first half of the album is more or less what you would expect if you know his previous downtempo work. still, i find it better better than hermit's sanctuary and just as good as the previous albums. but the second half is where it really gets interesting. from track to track the music slowly and seemlessly picks up speed and energy, even becoming dancable towards the end, and the atmosphere from the first half doesn't get lost in the process. unlike most other opinions i've heard, i wouldn't call the last few tracks progressive. it sounds more like atmospheric/minimalistic mid tempo goa to me. in this way it's a harmonious mixture somewhere between e-mantra's uptempo and downtempo work. but i could see how this music could fill the same spots in festival lineups that are currently most often occupied by progressive. but either way, it's certainly something fresh that hasn't been done before in the psy genre.
  18. anarchist here. i'm not sure if the ideal society would be anarcho-communist, anarcho-collectivist or anarcho-syndicalist, but the beauty about anarchy (among many other things) is that multiple economic systems can be tried out in different regions or side by side in the same region and the people work out which works best. obviously i do not associate with or vote for any party with conviction. but as i don't see anarchy being established here (or in fact anywhere) anytime soon, i'll try vote for the most reasonable option (preferably left of the conservatives who call themselves "social democrats") while we're still bound to this system.
  19. i hope not. we've had more than enough of this formulaic, absolutely non-psychedelic and extra-boring minimal house played at psy parties and called "prog".
  20. at least we'll have someone on psynews all the time this way. good night
  21. thanks everyone! i guess i'll have a lot of listening to do, hopefully i'll be finished in time for our poll edit: a few things already sound pretty good after some youtube listening/ektoplazm download: cosmic replicant, androcell, lab's cloud, alwoods (although that seems to be 2013. the altar website and discogs agree here). gmo vs. dense sadly isn't as good as the last two albums.
  22. in preparation for the "best of 2014" voting i noticed that i haven't listened to much downtempo released this year at all. and apparently i'm not the only one. so what are the best downtempo releases you've found this year? any instant classics that one cannot ignore? was there a good psydub release like globular last year?
  23. not bad, at least it's not the boring cliché post-fullon/minimal-crossover/dubstep crap. darshan actually sounds a bit like a more minimalistic version of martian arts to me. but i like the 4d track with the techno vibe more. that's the kind of techno that imho fits psy nicely. still a whole dj set of this stuff would likely be too much
