  1. hush hush about thx1138. i have a few samples i want to use from there that afaik have never appeared in a psy track before
  2. yeah. i love the complexity and how it keeps building the intensity. imho this is to oldschool techno what newschool goa is to early dragonfly releases or what progressive rock is to rocknroll.
  3. all our movies are dubbed in german, so it's a very rare thing for me to notice.
  4. agreed. there is a lot of bullshit "science" out there. especially in the field of psychology (and economics if you count that as science). it goes from the long disproven but still often cited "classical music makes you more intelligent" to some obviously extremely lousy alarmist second hand smoking studies to the government funded mdma-puts-holes-in-your-brain crap to the wholly faked south korean cloning studies. some are easy to discern if you know just a little bit about statistics (i once read a second hand smoking study that said "we lowered the significance level to P<0.3 because we couldn't find a correlation otherwise, lol), some are obviously lacking only if you have related education/worked in that field and some are extremely convincing until you try to replicate the experiment (like the cloning stuff). but then again there are even more studies that sound like bullshit when you read about it in the media, but turn out to be good work when you read the original papers
  5. ^ a tb-303 instantly makes everything better. even house
  6. i wouldn't exactly call ott a "new" guy
  7. sounds great up to now (crop circles! etnica oldschool!). though i hope there's also going to be some newschool and/or more morning oriented sound. i'm not sure yet if i'll go, but i definitely want to
  8. interesting, the internet isn't really sure what it is either even last.fm likes to play me tracks with "progressive house" and "minimal techno" tags, when i look for progressive techno... @goa pride: two more tracks just for you:
  9. i've found it unpleasant (and of course tasting horrible), but it's surely worth a try. passiflora ime is much better, but of course with those plant remedies, effectiveness isn't really proven and there are widely varying formulations with widely varying dosages, so you'll likely have to try a few until you find something that works for you.
  10. yeah, it's different for everyone. i have no problems shutting off and concentrating on nice things when i relax (but sadly it's quite the opposite when i try to sleep). conversely even normally fun and relaxing activities (like for instance having a coffee witha friend or playing a computer game) can be exhausting, so i'd rather lean back and listen to some psydub
  11. if you'd use drugs / effective medications, they (weed, benzos, opiates, alcohol) surely help in the short term, but using in this way is a straight way into addiction. so they're best avoided (weed is certainly much better than the others in the addiction department, but then again weed doesn't work for everyone). i don't recommend antidepressants or anything like that. they don't help for the great majority of people, have lots of side effects and awful withdrawal symptoms for some people. if you'd still were to take one, then mirtazapine would most likely be quite a bit better than SSRIs. also the valerian radi recommended imho doesn't really help. it has the opposite effects of coffee and therefore isn't that pleasant or relaxing. my own mechanism to cope with stress (mostly having to work too much in my case) is maximizing the little free time and using the time purely to relax while not partaking in any kind of not completely necessary activities. but of course i have no idea if it's applicable in your case or if it would even help. everyone's different.
  12. night fullon? twilight at best imho, but i'm no expert on these darkpsy-ish things...
  13. not as big as yours but still with more goa all in all: 70 days. thereof: psy (all kinds of) : 50 days goa: 27.2 days fullon: 7.4 days progressive: 6 days chillout: 4.4 days psytrance: 4.3 days freetekno, acidcore and hardcore: 4.1 days trance: 3.2 days acid techno: 2.6 days psyrock and the like: 2.4 days dnb and jungle: 2 days darkpsy: 2 days techno: 1.3 days
  14. too melodic and not dirty enough take this: (dunno why it says acid techno. there's no tb-303 in there) but in contrast to goa, most techno (especially the dirty kind) doesn't sound nearly as good when listening at home instead of on a big soundsystem.
  15. yup. did he also play the "i have planned with moment for years" sample like fifty times in his set this time?
  16. i would call them goa. goa is just goa . at most we differentiate between oldschool goa and newschool goa. but prana - taiyo is every bit as much goa as shaolin wooden men - s.w.m., artha - bali or ketzal - ganesh pramana. don't dig too deep into the classification of downtempo music. it gets even more confusing and up to personal preferences there i divide only into "psychill" and "psydub" while others have many subcategories. for some "ambient" is only beatless ambient, while for others downtempo psy/goa (with a 4/4 kick) or breakbeat psychill also falls in the ambient category. it's not even clear where uptempo stops and downtempo begins. quite a few tracks of crossing mind fall somewhere in between, so some people designate that as "mid-tempo goa". i also see albums like those from gmo vs. dense classified as "downtempo progressive"
  17. totally i wish they would put that on the flyers beside the djs playing that kind of musc
  18. i've been looking at multiple sources to confirm what i remembered and if you look up progressive trance (outside of the psy circles) you'll inevitably run into paul van dyk, armin van buuren, tiesto, ferry corsten, ... so it seems like to a lot of the listeners of that kind of music that's progressive trance, while "trance" is rather the early 90s kind (or the umbrella term of course). of course the terms over there are pretty interchangable, like we use "progressive trance" instead of "progressive psytrance" (often even for the psychedelic stuff), or maybe rather in the way we shorten "goa trance" to "goa"... yeah, i know we agree on that still, to avoid confusion i'll not call it "progressive trance", but i'd sure be happy if people adopted a completely new name for that style of music (together with the perfectly non-psychedelic post-fullon) and split off from the psy community for good.
  19. umm... no. unpsychedelic progressive "psy"trance: progressive trance: i don't see that many similarities. imho the "unpsychedelic progressive psytrance" is closer to minimal house (or the house variant they started calling "minimal techno" in the last few years) than anything else. it certainly doesn't fit in the "trance" category. minimal house( = microhouse?) :
  20. it's one of my favourites no, i didn't upload it. up to now i simply cannot figure out how to put some music on youtube morning trance? well, surely. but nearly any kind of psy (well, maybe not dark and twilight ) can be morning trance. morning goa, morning fullon, morning progressive if i'd have to choose an artist as the pioneer of progressive psy i'd choose human blue. (well a few others like atmos also deserve to be mentioned, but human blue is more or less the definition of progressive for me). ah, the old discussion of "progressive psytrance" vs. "progressive trance" i totally agree that a lot (the majority rather) of progressive has very little to do with psy, but you know, there's a totally different genre called "progressive trance" that doesn't have its roots in psytrance but "normal" trance and predates unpsychedelic progressive psytrance. namely that's the kind of commercial "normal trance" music of tiesto and the like played and that was so popular in the late 90s. so to avoid confusion, i still call it "progressive psytrance" even though a lot of it doesn't deserve the "psy" in there. we used to call that neo-full in 2006 . don't ask me where that name comes from. no wonder no one uses that term now
  21. discussing which is the best goa track of '91 (the overlords - sundown (ionizer mix) btw, no doubt about that) is a lot less emarassing than claiming that music that sounds like justin bieber with a kick and a 1/16 bassline is fullon. if you're responsible for that compilation, then you are one of the guys responsible for the death of fullon.
  22. the promoters of festivals are very conservative most of the time. it's either acts that have been there the last year, big names or bog-standard progressive/dark/fullon. it's already been a great achievement that took constant complaining from us goa nerds that we have just a little bit of goa on the festivals. and still most just play it safe by booking well known old school acts (like for instance ap, mwnn or hallucinogen) or filteria.
