  1. depends. if you don't believe me that it's bad fullon with incredibly cheesy guitars then have a listen. otherwise: stay away
  2. meteor isn't cheesy and is great, but have you heard this album?:
  3. he has imho never made landmark releases that set new standards and i wouldn't think of calling any track "sounding like tristan" contrary to some other artists such as logic bomb, hux flux, early talamasca, cosmosis, … . but he has consistently released psychedelic trance (that deserves that name) of varying quality from great to average and he didn't go down the cheese/extremely-generic-fullon/minimal/dubstep road. that alone sets him apart from the great multitude of other producers.
  4. as long as you don't do it every day i really don't any problem here. even one daily glass of wine surely is much less harmful than for instance smoking 20 cigarettes per day. and even here the statistics we hear from the media are always presented in such a way as to seem much more dramatic than they really are. we hear that smoking increases the relative risk for lung cancer by 1200% and that over 90% of people who die from lung cancer are smokers which is true. but we don't hear that among non-smokers the risk for lung cancer is 17 in 100 000 (in a quick search i have only found numbers for the u.s.), which is equal to a risk of 0.017%. for smokers the risk increases to 0.22% which still is pretty damn unlikely. as this is an interesting topic i have just done some further research and read a few papers on the subject. what i found out is of course much more complicated, as always. so it seems that one and a half glass of wine reduces your risk for heart attack at most by 20% and that this is due to the effects on blood cholesterol, so if your cholesterol levels are fine you'd probably not notice an effect but if they aren't the benefits could well outweigh the risks. for strokes, you actually get a reduced risk for some kinds of stroke (again this is dependant on cholesterol) and increased risk for other types of stoke, so a real measurable increase in risk only appears when you go past 2 glasses per day. concerning cancer i found a 40% increase for the risk in oesophagal cancer for one glass per day and a 470% increase for 4 glasses per day. for stomach cancer there's a 40% increase for 2 glasses of beer/wine per week (!). but interestingly drinking an average of less than one glass of wine per week actually decreses the risk while beer does not...
  5. procyon has left psynews due to some drama with radi last year...
  6. semi-professional opinion, i haven't finished studies yet but actually we did talk about this topic in a pharmacology lecture just this semester. low dose alcohol does recude the risk for some medical conditions, such as arteriosclerosis and subsequent heart attacks, but in the same time it increases the risk for having a stroke, cancer of the gastrointestinal tract and puts a burden on your liver. there's of course nothing wrong with drinking sensible amounts of alcohol if you like the effects. i surely prefer a happy life to a healthy life when i have to trade off one for the other (within certain limits of course). just be aware that at best, you trade one risk for another. so if you're really concerned about health, fruits, fruit juices and green tea as well as fresh high quality food surely are better options. there are of course other drugs that have a similar or greater relaxing effect and less associated health risks but pharmaceutical regulations or illegality don't make them viable alternatives for most people. btw, what up with you calling everyone disagreeing with you narrowminded? i do take that as an insult.
  7. these claims stem from red wine containg reservatrol. but in reality you'd die of alcohol poisoning if you drink enough wine for the reservatrol to have any effect, that is if you're not already a seasoned alcoholic. and btw, the studies that show that people with low alcohol consumption are healthier than those who don't drink alcohol all don't take into account that people with serious chronic illnesses often have to refrain from drinking alcohol. but we also regularly have studies in the media about the positive effects of regular consumption of wine or beer. of course they're all sponsored by the austrian association of wineries (sp?) or the brewing union.... alcoholic! in 2013 i drank exactly one sip of wine to test if it's suitable for use in a lasagna. i know that too well...
  8. the first one isn't that bad. with some determination i could dance to it, but the second one is truly cheesy... the voice! still nothing compared to this: the description at psyshop says it's fullon i kid you not, that's really what they write. actually anything coming from planet ben records nowadays is cheesy crap.
  9. it's simple, but not cheesy. there is subtlety and a slight mysterious vibe, it's nothing like pop-music. no way, imho they are one of the few artists that still make decent psytrance outside the whole newschool movement.
  10. 1: crap indeed. this is not psytrance. 2: that is a bit like the "minimal psytrance" minimalistic technoid sound of the early 00s; but it's rather the modern continuation in the form of dark progressive a.k.a. zenonesque. 3: this is imho halfway between "normal" progressive and #1 4: again, i agree with sickdogs. more of the same 5: more of the same. now this is what i'd call "normal" progressive: it's apparently coming out of fashion and being replaced by your example #1. and here's a good example of minimal psytrance from 2002: there's also a continuum from this to the harder, faster and more aggressive psytek, if you're into that kind of stuff.
  11. music that makes you feel sick as if you have just eaten a whole kilogram of cheese at once imho not necessarily. there's a lot of dark music or maximal music like filteria that's quite the opposite of subtle, but that doesn't make it cheesy. for me it also has to have the shallow easy-listening—commercial-music vibe complete with simple, obnoxious melodies or reliance in cheap tricks or in the worst case pop vocals (like in imba's example ; i could really use vomiting smilie now ).
  12. yup. 2012 was unpleasant, 2013 was ok, there's hope that 2014 will be a good one.
  13. happy new year everyone!
  14. very understandable . thanks for looking into it anyway. i bet that for most of those releases tagged as "psychedelic", the only psychedelic thing about them is their tag... as for the collectors thing, i'd totally understand vinyls. they do have a distinctive sound, that imho sounds better than cd on some club systems. also the act of putton one on the turntable and placing the needle is something that can be appreciated. of course there's also the comparatively huge artwork. but i don't see any of this applying to cassettes...
  15. great. unbelievable . but why? i wouldn't even know a place where i could get a device to play them back (except going to the cellar and hoping that this sony walkman still works alright, seems i have really missed what's going on in the scene lately. the acts i've seen in the last years were mostly goa, fullon and the good kind of progressive... anyone have an idea in which year fullon (releases) imploded?
  16. actually, considering what is played now, i wish for "good old fullon" to come back. yes, in the latter years the vast majority of it was uninspired, cheesy, predictable and boring, but it was still fun to dance to. now we have the choice between noisy, glitchy 180bpm hitech and boring, predictable, uninspired and glitchy "progressive" that has less in common with progressive than with minimal or dubstep and has the beat drop out in the instant you start dancing. even the most awful fullon sounds like goa trance in comparison.
  17. thanks for the statistics. i'm a bit surprised by "fullon remains marginal". i would rather have suspected a drop. apparently this happened much earlier... i don't dare to ask, because it's likely more work than it's worth, but rough subgenre percentages could be interesting. tape? is that dat? or cassettes? i can't think of any kind of tape, still in use today for music
  18. i hear him almost every summer and his set hardly changes. we actually do bets if he will finish off with teleport, sugar rush or lunar cycle. he'll most likely play some "newer" psytrancish tracks in the beginning (think interstate highway and some compilation tracks; "2002-style" psy), the second part of his set will definitely be goa. i have also noticed that he's slowly shifting the balance more and more towards goa (the last time he even played the original teleport instead of the 2000 rmx), so you can get your hopes up with no worries. there will be no fullon (at least by today's definition), no dark, no progressive, no minimal, no dubstep. just pure mwnn.
  19. i guess i have worded my reply a bit confusingly; i'm rather into the harder, mechanical sounding kind of techno (dave the drummer, chris liberator type of sound...). but i still checked out your mixes and have already found something i like
  20. i've never been a big elysium fan (with some notable exceptions like subconsciousness, master of the rainforest or celestial sounds....), but i'm impressed by how well these samples match the original "soul" and atmosphere of elysium's music from so many years ago. i cannot think of any other artists who in their new releases have stayed true to the original vision like that (especially when considering the non-goa musical adventures that happened in the meantime).
  21. nice one imba, that track lately seems to be popping up quite often here on psynews http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utpXZd_A7xY i can never go too long without the great classics
  22. aww, i hoped you'd have a similar taste in techno and could give me some recommendations . i'm not very knowledgable on the genre and most tracks i listened to on youtube now sound more like house than the sound they usually play at the clubs over here. so this is the closest approximation i could find: i realize that minimal techno is a very blurry term. for instance plastikman's music which sounds totally different is clearly minimal techno (and i wouldn't call the new kind of "minimal techno" techno at all if that name wasn't so widespread. i'd call it glitch house ). i guess it's similar to how the dubstep stood for for drum'n'bass with dubby basslines and some delay fx was around here in the early 00s.
  23. what kind of techno? as far as i have noticed "regular" techno has almost completely been eaten up by minimal, at least in my area, and even the producers/djs that used to be big back then now just do minimal... i have just listened to the latest compilation from panzar productionz and even there two of the tracks have the unnerving popcorn lead that minimal techno has brought to every kind of edm. that really surprises me, as they're after a early 00s necton/s-range type sound... but does anyone here actualy like those minimal-like popcorn/blip samples? i'd really be interested on why you think they're great. there must be people who think that they're totally awesome, otherwise they wouldn't be in most of the tracks released today. so if you're one of those people, please explain it to me. after all the darkpsyheads did a similar thing some time ago making me understand (but not like ) their kind of music, and you wouldn't want to admit that darkpsy is understandably better than your favourite music, would you?
