How come we love psychedelic trance, and it irritates people?
Padmapani replied to Goa Travellers's topic in Off Topic
i'd like to add "it goes 'boom boom boom', therefore it's techno, therefore it's shit" type of people they often start out as "soulless machine music" people, but convert to the above when i tell them, that the chillout and dub they've just heard and liked is "machine music" just as much that's hilarious. i wouldn't have thought that people were still thinking like that now. quite the opposite imho -
it's exactly the opposite here. nothing gets me dancing like goa trance (execpt for maybe jungle when i first started listening to edm). the more or less constant bass drone of dark instead of the repetitive pulsing of a goa kickdrum makes me want to sit down.
-
have you tried earplugs radi? they cannot turn the volume down unless they want to upset the dancers. you cannot have that kind of bass pressure that's imho an integral part of the trance dance experience at volumes that would suit you for listening in any setting outside a club or festival.

What music are you listening to right now?
Padmapani replied to Sputum Rotgut's topic in General Psytrance
quite possible. my memory refuses to tell me how i stumbled upon that track -
that's somewhere between this: and this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V02zrp5bYZo or something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uC0-PHN045M so it's basically sped up minimal with varying amounts of progressive-psy sounds inserted here and there (or sometimes alternatively minimal with a prog beat). the sad thing is that when you go to a party that advertises "progressive psytrance" and you don't know that the artist does make good music (aforementioned ovnimoon, lyctum, ...), then you are most likely going to hear this.

the aforementioned layers, that there isn't one melodic line to hum along to but rather a whole landscape of sound to get lost in, when that landscape gets so intense as to fill up and blow your mind (other kinds of music just concentrate on single aspects instead of doing this to the whole spectrum of possible music perception), the general atmosphere: varied from mysterious to euphoric (but not cheesy) and still distinct, the choice of interesting, mind-stimulating and still pleasant, organic sounds the use of the 303 (not unique to goa) and last but not least the 4/4 kick, which provides a climax about 145 times a minute (not unique to goa)

of course the best thing silence and time to regenerate, but vitamin b12 also helps (that's what they give you (as a highly dosed infusion) in hospital when you come there for sudden hearing loss). as i'm missing some high frequencies in the right ear and have a slight tinnitus in my left ear i take some vit. b12 tabs most of the time after a party or a concert. one important thing here is to take it in the first 24 hours.

exactly it's not only about goa, some of us actually like good progressive psy. i just checked out the astrix mix and i have to say, it's not as bad as i expected. there's a lot of cringeworthy more-minimal-than-psy sound in there, but some of the tracks i could dance to (the zyce track for instance). so i'm pleasantly surprised by astrix not going all the way to minimal that's totally devoid of psychedelic elements - as is popular at the moment - after his departure from decency with the cheese fullon that was popular a few years ago.

i think the essentials are considered to be erpland and waterfall cities, but imho the yumyum tree is at least as good.

i've been listening to this one at least 20 times in the last few days. -
any day below 28˚C maximum temperature and below 18˚C minimum temperature is cold according to my definition

only five? that's cruel 1. khetzal - djaningar 2. ra - time current 3. filteria - the big blue (live remix) 4. artha - bali 5. khetzal - indian attic (e-mantra's tellurian remix) hm... enough with your stupid rules, i'll do a top ten! 6. chi-a.d. - sight of the sages 7. antares - mysticism 8. ra - other self 9. artifact303 - delirium 10. e-mantra - praying forest (short version) and i'm still missing a few essential ones like filtertraces...
-
well, he does look like slow motion most of the time; and i bet he could dance to cbl in the same way
-
a nice mess. but shouldn't you use spoiler tags when posting porn?
-
why all the hate? at least dubstep is infinitely better than minimal there's a psy-influenced dubstep mix from here in the dj promotion forum that i like and listen to occasionally. but to be honest i haven't found anything comparably good from outside psynews yet. wait, what? why would anyone want to dance (or be able to dance) to dubstep? i've always figured that it's more the kind of music you at most bob your head to when you melt into your couch. i mean... seriously... it's clearly ment to be chillout music - just as danceable as a cbl or aes dana album, right?

around these parts of the world fog is a certain indicator, that there's cold, shitty weather outside, so fuck fog. in tropical regions it can make those rainforest-covered mountains look nice and mysterious, but here: no thanks. i want the summer back. october was bearable, but since then the conditions outside have been torture.

i think so. he certainly was on stage alone at sun festival this year. that also was a good set, i'd certainly go see him again when he's playing somewhere in the area.

this one really is great:
-
right now it's globular's magnitudes of order. first of all i didn't know it existed unitl ptn brought it to my attention and secondly because it's imho one of the best psychill/psydub albums ever made
-
of course there is good dubstep out there, but dubstep is not psytrance and imho dubstep has no place in psytrance. no promoter will realize that people don't want dubstep if everyone just shuts up and keeps dancing ("to keep the vibes positive" or because they're too fucked up or for whatever other reason) instead of voicing their opinion. putting the energy toward producing, djing or releasing (, ...) the music they love is something that the majority of the psynewsers are already doing. i cannot speak for the others, but being on psynews certainly does not decrease the time i spend in logic, rather the other way round.

E-Mantra - Nemesis (Suntrip Records) - jan 2014
Padmapani replied to Anoebis's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
interesting. contrary to the last 2 filteria albums where jannis reinvented himself, e-mantra apparently is looking to perfect his style; and judging from the samples he does that very successfully. this is going to be even better than arcana while pathfinder to me sounds like a collection of e-mantra b-sides in comparison. -
The Gap between Filteria and other goa artists is huge...

haven't you been to samsara festival (on the sonnenklang venue) at few years back? they played an excellent closing set there -
inside restaurants and small rooms? imho that's way beyond being acceptable. i usually spend the night at home (doing any kind of fireworks stuff within city limits is forbidden here, which probably helps a little bit) or at a party in the middle of nowhere, so i'm nowhere near huge crowds and probably "miss out" on those things. that reminds me of a story from one of my friends. he went to a new year's party in goa last year and one rocket took a wrong turn and flew towards the bar. my friend was hit directly, but luckily for him it bounced off only to explode right next to the hand of the bartender. my friend told me blood was all over the place. he had to go to the hospital himself because of the impact and the burns, but the bartender was surely much worse off. drunk people and explosives surely aren't the best combination...

i don't like them either. firecrackers are something i find especially pointless; you get a loud unpleasant noise and that's it. but i don't fear them. as long as you keep your distance from anyone who likes to throw such things you're safe. i'm kinda paranoid about fireworks however. they fly a long way and those sticks do have to come down somewhere. i've never seen them do so but the ground is littered with them the next day. so instead of watching the fireworks, i spend my time hoping that the sticks don't fall on my head if i decide to go outside at new year.
