  1. nice. i didn't know there was a trance edit of double dragons, but it's going to be interesting.
  2. the first good news today. it's nice to see a new compilation coming from phototropic, it has been a while since the last one
  3. this is really sad. and unexpected, judging by his recent posts. i have always enjoyed his presence here in the forum. he will certainly me missed here and in rl. RIP, Sideffect.
  4. first of all and most importantly, best wishes and a quick return to good health to fabien! about filipe, i think it's a shame that every time he resurfaces and arrives with new music, it quickly turns into a whole lot of drama with childish insults and everyone being mad. but imho the past attempts of many people have shown that a productive relationship with him is pretty impossible. i think blaming drugs is a cheap excuse. that's the same as saying "i'm not responsible for my actions, drugs made me do it". maybe it's a mental illness, but wo don't know. so, it's maybe best to enjoy the occasional self-released ep and ingnore the rest?
  5. that guy apparently really is half of mfg. these are sad times, when psytrance stars turn into a badly singing rabbis. that's even worse than what happened to infected.
  6. i think we have said the same thing when metapsychic went down (with all the accompanying drama).
  7. welcome. put it to good use imba! it will be interesting how you'll fit it in your style of goa trance. i imagine it to turn out quite different from the x-dream remix
  8. my take of the melodies is here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/b8aly6h7j9vl6y7/BHb77ZrJPX/smoke%20my%20dang-a-long.mid imho they should be pretty spot on. the background melody is more difficult with all that modulation. i tried around with lush-101 and wired the velocity to filter cutoff, but i'm not sure if i'm right and even if i am it still needs a lot of manual modulation. anyway, here's my try: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/109605202/Smoke%20my%20dang-a-long%20background.mid
  9. you're cruel! a warning to others: DON'T play at 2:10 if you don't want your ears to fall off
  10. radi, may i remind you of galaxia and ranaia from electric universe. galaxia consists of basically one acidline with another melody on top from time to time. renania is just two slightly different acidlines. newschool is simple to the old masters such as boris blenn? now compare these two tracks to filteria's big blue! actually, the repetitive trancyness is one of the most important things i find to me missing in a lot of newschool goa.
  11. all around good album. nearly as nice as through the looking glass.
  12. after this review i had to go listen to those remixes of overbloody flood. i wish i hand't. i'm sick now

    SCANDI90'S

this is not really my cup of tea. the tracks aren't bad, but there's nothing that really stikes me here. it sounds like a collection of b-sides that weren't released back then, because there were better tracks to take their place. my favourite is nrg beings, because it has that old miranda style we all know an love, but even here, it's miles from most tracks of phenomena.
  14. it definitely sounds like it's inspired from vangelis, but i think the d5 version of the melody (as well as the choice of sounds) is way more epic
  15. thanks for that shameless self-promotion. i missed that there's now a part two
  16. agreed. i think all those lasers, blinking leds, projections and whatnot destroy the unique atmosphere psy parties have always had with just blacklight and fluorescent blankets everywhere (which iirc was quite a bit lighter than those warehouse parties). now it's more like a psychedelic themepark rather than a mysterious wonderland and you often can't even look to the front anymore if you don't want the lasers to burn your retina. and where was all the coloured flouro-wool gone? i haven't seen string art in years.
  17. the cover and the label tells me it's ambient. and so do the samples, go have a listen sounds nice, but i'm starting to wonder if e-mantra is human or some kind of music production robot. we get album after album after album in so little time. not that i'm complaining
  18. upcoming? wasn't there a whole lot of offbeat tracks in progressive since the beginning? human blue - travelling for example. but yes, i like it very much as long as it isn't too minimal influenced.
  19. depends on the progressive. e-clip, mindwave, ovnimoon or elegy for example are imho definitely more psychedelic than 99% modern fullon (or imho darkpsy for that matter, but let's not get into this again). in fact i find that style of progressive more similar to "good old" fullon from around 2003 or so, than the fullon from today is.
  20. sorry mate, that style you're looking for was only really popular from 1999-2002. the closest i can think of are hypogeo, onionbrain and the whole zenon records stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKMQmGv8SB0 these are basically dark progressive. but if you find that you're into darkpsy (a few posts further up) then you're lucky. it's quite popular now.
  21. no, were not. the others are biased against goa i've also noticed that there's fewer other psy in the top slots this year. maybe the number of goa trance listeners is finally picking up again. and if there's one board for goa on the whole internet, then this is it. and thanks for doing the work, rotwang.
