  1. These kinds of lists have nothing to do with skill at all. Its only about 1 thing, and thats who got the best promotion machine working for them. Everything else doesnt matter, because people who use those lists dont know anything about the music whatsoever - Because if they did, they wouldnt need to go to a list like that to find a good DJ. Best Wishes Krell
  2. DJ Krell(Virus Tekk/Jester Rec) "Twillight" set. Download here.: http://www.doei.org/misc/DJ_Krell_-_Twilli...10-05_-_VBR.mp3 My last set was a slow mellow progressive set, this time I have recorded a full on set. The perfect setting for this set is the early hours preferably outdoors late summer when the sun has just come up, it offers a bit of everything - mellow, psychedelic, funky, groovy, melodic and melancolic tracks ranging from 138 - 144 BPM weaven together in a progressively evolving flow. You also get a taste of one of the tracks from the upcoming "Shades of Light" compilation out very soon on Virus Tekk Records towards the end of this set. I would like to say thank you to Elec3 for allowing me use one of their unsigned tracks in this set - Thanks:-) Overall I am very happy with the mixing, though there is always room for improvements. Enjoy :-) Tracklist. 01 Blue Planet Corporation "Entropie" Flying Rhino Records 02 Magnetrixx "Probably (Audiomatic Remix)" AP Records 03 Sun Control Species "Underage Japanese Girls" Green Ant 04 D-Tector "Tonic" Yellow Sunshine Explosion 05 Tranan "Preacher Boy" Spiral Trax 06 Oxyd "Dimensions" High End Music 07 Explorer "Underwater" Mandala Records 08 Sos "Acid Terrorist" Mandala Records 09 Black & White "Geronimo" Hom-Mega Productions 10 Onyx & Perplex "On the Move" Shantipi Records 11 Polaris "Baculejo" Spirit Zone Records 12 Freakulizer "Awakening Process" Revolve Magazine 13 D.N.A "I am" Cosmophilia 14 Synthia System "Whammy Mammy" Organic Records 15 Psysex "High Times(Nick Remix)" Hom-Mega Productions 16 X-Noize & Domestic "Red Handed" Hom-Mega Productions 17 Wrecked Machines vs Panick "Spotless Mind" Spun Records 18 Sirius Isness "I Want Freedom" Mind Control Records 19 Pixel Vs Intelabeam "Methaminimal(Sub 6 Edit)" Green Ant 20 Concept "Existenz" Fungi Records 21 Concept "Mind Tricks" Fungi Records 22 Cosmochaos "Paradoxal Feeling" 3D Vision Records 23 Vibe Tribe "Ananda" Sundance Records 24 Ananda Shake "Fucking Time" Drugless 25 Elec3 "Formed Materials" Unreleased (Used with artists consent) 26 Nasa "A bit closer to Heaven" Virus Tekk Records 27 Protoculture "Oceanic" Yellow Sunshine Explosion 28 Silicon Sound "Modulate" Red Cells Records Download - http://www.doei.org/misc/DJ_Krell_-_Twilli...10-05_-_VBR.mp3 Quality - 320kbps VBR. 3. Well - CreamCrop records was also based here in Aarhus, but they closed down some time ago. In the end, it was a pure progressive label and they were still probably the main party organizer here. It is also worth mentioning, that we have Crotus Records based here - You know, Bes´s label. It releases a bit more varied stuff, Navajo was the last release, but also Krumelur etc. Bes even made chillout tracks. I think Crotus Records could very well release any kind of music if just Bes likes it, at least I dont see the label as limiting itself that much. CreamCrop is all but gone now - No parties, No label and you dont see their DJs participate much in lineups anymore either. However, it does not change that they did build up a progressive scene over the years, which is still very much present. This was very much evident when Son Kite and Atmos came to play at a thursdays club here - While basicly NO ONE came for Total Eclipse on another thursday, there were at least 100-150 people attenting the progressive Atmos+Son Kite event. Then we have Technoms & Moesgaardmen - Which is more like promotion groups, some times putting on parties. Seems its some of the same people or they work together. There is also a organizer group called Em-Ma, which is supported by the state and creates + supports different kinds of events. Its about electronic music in general, but very often really psychedelic stuff / dark psy is planned. Like in november, we have Naked Tourist, Parasense and DJ Leptit playing at the biggest location in town (room for at least 1000 people). Of course we have Parvati Records as well, and they have always had some part in the local scene for as long as I lived here (since 1997/98) - Back then under different names though. On top of this, we have a healthy house scene - and also electronica, noise and other stuff. Aarhus has always been a place which holds music & art in high esteme.. I think there was a slogan once "Aarhus, the city of music" - So, its important. Still, funding can grow short with todays danish government and its expensive to put on parties here privately if your not supported. At least for me, its a good place to be - Lots of variation and top djs & producers live here within all the genres. The scene hasnt gone all out commercial either, as in Copenhagen. Without a doubt, for electronic music Aarhus is the best place in Denmark for me. For parties, its a bit worse than 5-10 years ago - but in regards to musicians, Djs and so forth there is more going on at a high level nowadays. Copenhagen has lots to offer as well, theres just a lot of people living there, and therefore there are clubs every weekend - Too many parties... Quantity vs Quality. This doesnt mean there isnt a lot of people there producing different kinds of music though. Last I can mention that me and others as (electrobeat.dk) are trying to get parties going here locally. They will mix up genres, and are intended for those who value a big amount of variation. Focus will be put on quality acts and djs. Best Wishes Krell
  4. We just call it "Psychedelic Trance" mostly - some of the really REALLY weird stuff we call "gakgak" which is a danish word that you use for people who have lost their minds... I call meteloids, gow etc "dark psy", since "psychedelic trance" as a genre is too wide for me personally and I dont think its THAT wacky music really. Gakgak is an expression about a mental state for instance. If you are "gakgak" then you are "wacko" - So, "Wacko Trance" would suit the very well. Texas Faggot etc is called "gakgak". Gak Gak is what loonatics are :-) I dont see the aim of most of the "dark psy" or "psychedelic trance" that comes out of my area to be evil or dark - The "dark wave" is over and done with as I see it - It is as you say more trippier and not so pretentiously evil. Of couse, theres often still some mean bassline etc - but its the trip and outdoor experience thats in focus. Then again, its not like Im some sort of spokesperson here hehehe - Im just saying what I think, which is an opinion influensed by some of the local people I chatted with :-) (I live in Aarhus, where half of the acts you mentioned are from). The thing is - The WORD "scandotrance" or "scandianavian trance" is as stupid as the word "goa trance". For us who live here, we know that we have music in many genres which could be categorized by those words - especially given how the word was first used. This again just leads to the conclusion that "scandotrance" is only about geography. So, perhaps it would be better to say "Twisted & Psychedelic Scandotrance" for the acts you mention there :-) *smiles* Krell
  5. First time I ever heard the term used was in conjunction with Transients release of VA "A Progress in Trance" which was a huge success and paved the way for scandinavias reputation in progressive psychedelic trance. Or, at the time, not so overly melody driven music. It was released 1999 http://www.discogs.com/release/121708 and I think if anything should be associated with the term "scandotrance" then this is it. However - I dont myself see scandotrance / Scandinavian Trance as a genre really. Its just Psy / Progressive Psy made in scandinavia - and as such, its more about geography than genre really. I dont hear many scandinavians use that term either - We say "progressive psytrance" "progressive" "psychedelic trance" "deep trance" "progressive" "progressive trance" & "Psychedelic Trance". As you can see, Hux Flux "idiot" is on that compilation - and thats really more into the psychedelic aspect of things. So is this just about who is your favourite scandinavian psychedelic trance artists ? :-) Mine would be Vibrasphere - Both for the chillout and trance tracks - Son Kite is also very nice. Also Koxbox & Saikopod & Psychopod is very good and evolving music. If we count in finland with scandinavia (which I do even though its not correct) then Haltya/Pelinpala/Highpersonic Women deserves a place on this list, for the combination of wacky funky music, to psychedelic trance & also progressive psy tracks. And of course Kiwa, basicly for the same combo. Sooooo Vibrasphere Son Kite Koxbox Saikopod Psychopod Haltya Pelinpala Highpersonic women Kiwa and yes, I know many of the acts are sideprojects :-) There are lots of other artists who produce very good music, but these are the best and most talented ones in my eyes - Covering both chillout, full on and progressive releases - Variety and Quality and lots of it. (full on is perhaps over stating it, but 140+ bpm and psychelia) :-) Best Wishes Krell
  6. - He often talks about Goa Style parties being initiations for receiving energy from the cosmos and growth of the mind. What is his view on clubbing events in which psytrance is being played, but which mostly resemple discos. - What does he see in his own future ? Is he planning on keeping up the DJing career or moving on in his life ? - Which moment in his psytrance djing career was the most special for him ? - Are the good times over for the culture he is a part of, or are they ahead of us ? - What does he think of the idea of him being considered a cult leader ? Is he aware of the problems this kind of thinking can create ? - In his Djing, which things does he value more - What are his priorities ? Mixning? Flow? - Being VERY specific, how does he read the dancefloor, how does he relate to different kinds of events. If he is booked for a "commercial" party, does he change the way he thinks, or is it 1 ritual for him ? - Does he limit his choice of music ? Would he mind putting in some classic music in his sets, and what are the wackiest things he has even done musicly ? - Where would he like to see "our" culture go ? - What music does he listen to at home ? Does he appreciate any of the stuff which would be on MTV for instance like many other artists do. - How does he use music in his life ? Meditation, Background music, Music for cleaning up the place etc. - What makes him sad or worried within the scene? - Is there anything that worries him, or things he see as having gone "off track" from where he would like to go. Get him to point out several NEGATIVE things, instead of always being so positive. (perspectives are important) All questions should be formulated so that he doesnt seem like some cult leader or whatever - He is just a part of a culture... Im all out :-) Best Wishes Krell
  7. I cant remember the tracknames, but I tried mixing tracks which kept changing BPMs during the end - or went off beat within the last 32 pr 64 beats. The ones that kept changing BPMs I was not able to mix reliably, the ones going off beat I just killed the bass and mid untill it become "on beat" again :-) Best Wishes Krell
  8. Greedy organizers and parties which are more about earning money than anything else. Of course, these sort of parties will attract all the stereotypes mentioned in this thread - So, I see them as being the core of the problem. Best Wishes Krell
  9. I grew up with my mother, who wasnt really much into music - she would perhaps listen to the beach boys or something like the beatles..... Music I listened to, in order of appearance. 0-13 Years old Bamse og Kylling (danish kid stuff) MC Hammer Iron Maiden 13-15 Years Old Jean Michael Jarre Rock (like nirvana etc) Dance (2 unlimited etc) 15 Years old + Techno Gabber Trance Chillout House Classic Music Thats it :-) Btw, Im 27 years old now.

Well, many of us in #psytrance enjoyed minimal & progressive since..... FOREVER...... However, people do not always have the same tastes in music. Just to let you know - Just because some are bashing a genre, doesnt mean its the taste of everybody else who is there :-) Best Wishes Krell
  11. I like this set - Overall it has a good flow and some nice groovy tracks in it. The mixing issues are minor, and though I like the mixing in "Euphoria" better, I get in a deeper trance with the tracks in "Rise". Also, they go very well together - Put on "rise" and move into "euphoria" later - Perfect musical trip :-) Always a pleasure to sample pr0fanes taste in music, I have never been disappointed, whether it be in the beginning or the end of a party. I look forward to experiencing more sets from my good friend pr0fane, preferably at parties :-) Organizers should keep an eye out for this guy, one of the most dedicated DJs I have ever come across. Best Wishes Krell
  12. @Lepton I got to hear your 2 sets yesterday. First one was too climatic, but still nice cheesy music.. :-) The last one "***Psylobotomy part II ***" which you say is your style I like a lot more, both the mixing style, flow and the music. I found the mixing style to be very engaging, and I loved the use of the good old "Bring your Own Bios" Classic :-) In the beginning I was a bit startled by the psychedelia, perhaps because I had just eaten some mushroooms - but after 2 tracks I got very taken with the sound. My expections were for a darker sound, but the set is in my eyes not dark, but more just truely psychedelic, which was a pleasant surprise :-) If something, by defintion, was to be called "psytrance", then for me, this is it :-) pr0fane and I had a lot of fun listening to it :-) If you make more, I will surely want to download them :-) Interesting experience:-) Best Wishes Krell
  13. I look forward to listening to them :-) Fun to see some Texas Faggot there hehe. Actually, I do not mind cheesy full on music - I mean, if cheesy means soft and melodic its not a problem for me. Sometimes I think dark psy is the cheesiest of all, since its so pretentious (dark killah evil motherfucka music).. In the end, its all just music - and it can require more courage of a person to open up to soft music, than just listen to the electronic counter part to black metal :-) Good cheese and bad cheese. :-)
  14. Sorry, I meant, 64 beats = ½ minutte aprox :-) Yeah, some of the tracks are very long - Like 12 minuttes actually. Others are shorter, the shortest one is 5-6 minuttes long. I actually tried making some mixes longer earlier, but, I didnt really like the transition, from track to track that came along with it. I love most of the tracks in this set so much, I have a hard time to cutting them to pieces :-) However - Structurally, many of them sound better this way... I mean, I would have to let out elements of the tracks. When I mix, I try to use all of the outro of the track Im leaving - So, I could mix earlier in the tracks, but then I would need to cut out elements of the tracks since they do not fit together that well (I try to have fit so elements which stop ind 1 track, get replaced by similar elements in the next track) :-) All of the tracks in the set are released. Have you got any mixes/setsonline I can take a listen to ? I would love to hear. Best wishes Krell
  15. The mixes are on average 2 minuttes long :-) 1 minute is 64 beats aprox :-) There is a lot of EQing going on, since else the tracks would create dissonans (wrong, sick sounds). Because of the EQing, the mixes themselves becomes less noticable - The tracks I use in the set dont actually fit togther if you run them in sync not using EQ on top of each other. . (its much easier with purely tribal house, or techie stuff:-) Therefore it can be difficult to hear the beginning of the mixes, since I start with bringing in hihats first, and the mids (slowly). Bass Line I usually first introdeuce with around the last 64beats of the mix. In my eyes, the only thing that it does is show Im mixing, so I wait with that :-) If the sound is more techie, that is, not so much atmosphere - its easier, since I can pitch bend more freely then + wont have to worry that much about dissonans :-) However, the set went in between very soft progressive psy and chillout, and I wanted very atmospheric tracks thruout the set, chosen for flow first, and mixability last :-) Thanks for the comments :-) Best Wishes Krell
  16. Like I wrote. I dont want to reveal the flow, if you are not happy about that - its ok with me. Im not forcing you to listen to the set, neither do I think you have to give me grief about it. Best Wishes Krell
  17. Since you are asking for it :-) I have recently recorded this very deep & atmospheric progressive set. It is based on a set played this summer at moesgaard beach during the morning hours after a faster progressive psy set, and before a chillout set. (its mainly supposed to be played as the last trancy set during the daytime/warm hours). Im quite happy with the way it turned out, even though the very last beatmix is off slightly (forgive me). Featured artists include Sub 6, Fitalic, Dousk, Miniloque, Luke Chable, David West, Atmotech + many more. 17 tracks in all. There wont be a track list for this one, the flow is a surprise, which I find very important in a DJ set. If you are truely interested in the experience itself, you will understand this. 19. Great set for starting off an evening softly, and slowly picking up the pace when moving into full on. Also, very good transitional tracks between the progressive and the full on part. Good mixing, and quality. Keep it up :-)
  20. The danish online community Electrobeat.dk presents their first event featuring different electronic music genres - with a main focus on psy genres.. The event will take place from 2300 till 0600 beginning on Saturday the 11th of February 2006. The venue will be Aarhus Firma Sport, Paludan-Mollersvej 110, 8200 Aarhus N. There will be a 2 floor setup at the event, main floor and alternative floor. Musical flow will be structured so that you will always be able to experience more intense music at the main floor, while the music at the alternative floor will be deeper and more chilled. (this way we can go completely berserk with Dark Psy on the mainfloor, while the Progressive crowd can seek refuge at our alternative stage). This is done by going from chillout -> progressive house on the alternative floor, while moving from progressive -> full on the main floor. A very basic explanation really, in fact the event will offer the following genres. - Progressive House. - Progressive Psytrance. - Deep Trance. - Psychedelic Trance. - Dark Psychedelic Trance. - Full On. - Chillout. The Lineup is as follows >>Mainfloor<< LIVE Nasa(Iboga Records) LIVE Meteloids(Parvati Records) DJ Raider(3D Vision Records) DJ Nasa(Alphalab Records) DJ pr0fane(Sunrise Supplies) >>Alternative Floor<< DJ Krell(Electrobeat.dk / Virus Tekk Records) DJ Autopilot(Crotus Records) DJ Psilence(Gaia Project) DJ Jespar(Ecstatic Worlds) We have already booked a professional deco team + made arrangements for further deco. This will stay a surprise. The price will be 155 DKK - Which is 5kr more than the last events at that venue, we make up for it by creating 2 floors and doubling the lineup. There will be CHEAP BEER ! (25kr for a big one) and more stuff you can buy at the bar/kiosk - such as FOOD Checkout the prices here http://www.aafs.dk/aafs_sport/cafeen.htm Bar prices are subject to change without notice since Electrobeat.dk is not in charge of the bar. However, its not likely this will happen. There is an 18 Year Age Limit, Bring Picture ID. If there are any updates, check this thread - Flyer and other stuff (in danish) at http://www.electrobeat.dk/popup.show_party.php?party_id=365 Best wishes Krell
  21. Find the "sami koivikko - live at mixclub" set - I believe thats mostly microhouse, and its great :-) Psychedelic, Weird, Fresh and Well mixed.
  22. I think what they reffered to was relevancy... Shows that IAMbenjy = small brain *smiles* Krell
  23. LOL I use Creative Recorder for recording my sets.... its better than the windows default recorder anyway hehhee :-)
  24. We have a subject about this in our danish forum on electrobeat.dk - Started by one of the Djs who often spins at Bryggen - Im taking a wild guess at that was the club you where at... They turn up the music extremely loud there, and your fucked if you are not using any kind of protection. I need it myself, I got whinning sounds as well... sucks. If you really love music, then you will need ear plugs or loose your ability to listen to it all together perhaps. Good topic, spread the word.
  25. I am using the following. Speakers. QLN 612 - Which is a swedish brand, cost effective as hell - It uses 2 6½" for the mid, it has nice soft highs (not too bright) and a very deep 12" long throw woofer. Max continuous powerhandling is around 300-400 watts. Amplifier - For this I use the NAD C370, for a nice price, giving me 2*120 watts and nice dynamics... A Rodec might have been good as well - but I thought I needed more watts :-) Cables - For this I use Tara Labs, not the cheapers I could get, but not really that expensive either. Music is routed thru a Vestax PMC 270A Mixer which is fed by either Pioneer CDJ100s, SB Audigy or a Reloop Turntable (technics clone). So not that much hi-fi there. I also have 4 other QLN speakers, for when I finally get enough money so that I can buy a surround recever. For my place, this sound is far too massive - I need a house really... I cant crank the volume up that much, and 12" woofers are far more than what I need for my living room... Actually, just 2 6½ would be enough - Still, overall, its an excellent system and its not ridiculously expensive compared to what real audiophiles buy. If you are to buy a stereo, I would suggest you get a cheaper rodec or Nad amplifier, and B&W´s cheapers speakers. Either floor standing or not. This will suit you fine I think, unless you have a really big room to put it all in.
