  1. LOL ... sorry, I was confused by the thread title ... I didn't know that with docs you meant documentaries. I thought you meant doctors. And since you also said "small", I thought "small doctors", thought that this means something in party slang and -- now it comes -- thought that I would finally unravel the mystery of the track title "Klein Aber Doctor" from Atmos ... "Small But Doc", you know Turns out that's wrong. Must be the hunger (I'm waiting for my pizza...). Sorry for that useless paragraph, but I thought that this is so far off it's probably worth sharing. But these documentaries ... they're nothing for me. Maybe I've watched the wrong one (drunk student disco) ... but hey, we got a TV show here in Austria that is a bit themed for such things ... it follows some people around and sees how they're paryting. But on that austrian show, it's basically all total chav scum and mainstream clubs/people/music. I just checked if there was something I could show, but I saw some of it on youtube again now and am actually so ashamed of Austria when I mention the show that I won't do it (it's not even fucked up good and proper, just boring mainstream drunk kiddie idiots holding their shitfaces into the camera). The ones above are at least well done and well fucked up, that's nice. But still, nothing for me.
  2. Yeah, Beatspace is a good find ... I always sorta confused them with beatport ... good to see they sell physical releases Oh and I'm not dedicated enough for the Saiko tattoo... I'd take a Wirikuta lanyard though (not that there are any...)
  3. Maybe that was not too wisely worded from me ... "resources" includes also the work, time, effort to produce the music But now the situation is not like that anyway, with a guy having a load of CDs piled in his cellar -- as draeke mentioned the release not being pressed. That gives it the possibility of digital download though, as mentioned earlier. I'm happy to read that there are discussions now (at least it seemed?). Because even if there were no new releases by that label Tranceform records, why not release this finished work now as "the keystone"?
  4. That was well said, the part about the companies dictating the government... There are alternatives to fossile fuels though ... and one is even readily available: oil from plants. You can even run a normal diesel car with cooking oil (used for french fries and then filtered) ... Mythbusters did it years ago Plus there is this crazy german team of scientists I saw in a documentation on 3sat TV station ... I don't know many details anymore but they talked about practically cooking and chemically treating plant parts into some form of sludge ("Slurry" they called it) and make a stuff identical to fossile oil out of it. Practically. I can't say more, don't remember it ... plus, TV can actually say anything and people will believe (although I think 3sat to be a station with more scientific reputation than many other mainstream programs). But nevertheless, science is working on that, good and proper. And they will find a replacement, I'm not worried about that... There are other things I'd worry much more about. My list you can see above
  5. That's a nice one I don't know how to describe it properly, but I find that there is a certain element of freshness in some of the sound that's coming from Greece and that's what I like -- when I can find it. Odd Sequence (from Iono Music) would be another example ... I discovered him not long ago and in his sound I once again find this freshness, this uncomplicated plain goodness. To say that all greek music does this for me would be wrong, by far. But it has struck me not only once these days that it might not just be random preference but that there may be a little more to the reason why I find the sound so good. I'm even tempted to romantically use expressions similar to what Radi says about the landscapes, that these vibes from a warm sunny climate are soothing and illuminating the cold darkness inside me and that this is the reason why I like them so much ... but alas, it's not like that ... it seems just that some Greeks are creative with sound in a way that's more pleasant for me than it's with others. I'm eager to discover more though, any time
  6. Sorry, I vote for fail. Wait until the Chinese people -- and not only the Chinese, take that for every "development country" -- go through the same economic evolution like we and thus start to have bigger carbon footprints. Six billion is the current world population (sorry, seven -- just looked), tendency rising. If these people all got a car, you can say goodnight to the planet. My chemistry teacher said something like this already ten years ago. He will be right. He will be right! Not only do we have the emissions, at the same time we also have to fight the plastic in our environment, the environmental damage through poison etc. (Fukushima hooray), the dying of species (how many were there that get extinct every year? I don't know the number anymore, but it was worrying), even such simple things as "light smog" ... oh and don't forget electro smog, the rays from cellphones and electric devices that will give us brain cancer or whatever nasty shit, illnesses through poisons or even through simple things such as burn-out in the ever faster-getting business world ... or even the financial crisis, the most laughable way to go down as it's all man-made entirely ... oh and, after all, lets not forget the danger to be bombed into oblivion by some crazy religious lunatic or simply an amok runner who can't cope with his life anymore... Avoid The Future! Noma already knew it. ... sorry guys, Cinos already called me "doomsday prophet" ... guess that's what I am...
  7. I've never been to Greece ... but nice trip, Radi. Go see more of the world, it's good for you The story about the song is cool ... I find it most cool because there's a bottle of Whisky in it (one that doesn't even take such small a role apparently ) ... I never pictured Greeks drinking that stuff, in my mind it was a drink for bold northeners (rather) who needed it to warm their hearts in the cold times -- it's a drink with warm energies, I picture down there they'd rather drink stuff that brings cool energies, like Ouzo (sorry for the clichée), because the climate's hot already... Anyway, Ormion, do you have any greek edm, rock, pop songs? I'd be curious to hear some ... I don't really get too much into that "laika" stuff ... but I think you guys certainly have some good stuff ... after all you got Strange Zero, one of the best discoveries of the last years for me... SCNR, I have to post one of their songs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNOSSjOGa7U Take that for "greek" music! Listen to that music next time you're there Radi ... I would
  8. Seems we've finally found The Onion of electronic music
  9. There's a compilation that's already pressed and the stuff is just lying around in somebody's basement? Sorry but seen from the status quo that's just a shameful waste. Waste of resources, waste of money, waste of time for the artists (or did they get paid already?)... Why not selling the stuff? Or let somebody else do it? If the thing is ready-pressed, why not just DO it? There are apparently people out there wanting to pay money for it! What are they waiting for? Right now it's the worst condition -- zero net benefit for anybody involved ... worse than this it can not even get ... even if you sold them for one cent each, the situation would be slightly better. If I was that guy with these CDs in my cellar and it would be too much work for me, I'd collect a few orders (just ask a few people here if there's no other place), then make an evening with friends, buy some envelopes and make a shipping party Come on, can somebody with some time to spare lend this man a hand and ship that thing out to customers? All there is is signing envelopes or isn't there? It makes me nervous when I hear that so many resources are wasted -- I can't stand it when people waste things...
  10. Oh noes ... just as I was discovering that Psyshop (aka P$y$hop) is obviously not the most benefical element for the scene and thus looking for alternatives to order music, I see that saikosounds is no more Bad news. Ummm ... could it really be that this was one of the causes for the bankruptcy? What was it actually with that weirdness ... I checked only that Wirikuta was going from a respectable distro gradually to a scammy one as they didn't pay labels and later didn't even ship orders anymore and then they were gone...
  11. My first Goa CD was this one: http://www.discogs.com/Various-The-World-Of-Goa-Trance-Vol-3/release/87331 It was a kind of "blind bet" ... meaning I knew nothing of Goa Trance before. I only had somebody talking to me that it's "much more intense than normal trance" which is why I got curious. And so I bought that CD for a bargain price in a big entertainment store ... one that wasn't even yo badly stacked concerning Goa, they had Spirit Zone stuff there and the Goa-Head compilations ... of which I later bought some, unfortunately I left out on the Spirit Zone stuff though, had not enough money for all... Not long after that I went to my first psy party ... and the music there was totally different (but great!), which left me a bit confused and led to practically my first thread here where I asked for similar stuff concerning "minimalistic psy". And that was then practically instant love ... some of the recommendations became a few of my favourite artists to this day (Atmos!)...
  12. Oh gosh, sorry for the bump, but I had an urge and needed to listen to this song again. I forgot the artist, I forgot the name ... pretty much everything. Only thing I know is I posted here about it! The search here is totally useless when you know nothing... And the "my content" was also useless. How I found it? Sort topics by starter and look through by hand I'd have done that with every other of the forums here if I hadn't found it by now. And I'm very happy that I found it Actually not because it's such a good song (it was back then though), but it bears memories. Years ago I was in a rental car, no CDs no mp3, was stuck to the radio stations and on one they played that song ... I then had to find it out via searching through their playlists and found the right song by chance (and after some looking) in a list that had them by time of day (and I didn't know that precisely anymore...). You see, there was quite some effort going into it. And now I wanted to find it again, but my brain is a cathedral with a ceiling of bats, swirling round vigorously -- you can find everything in there but it isn't kept for too long. How am I thankful I have posted it here. Sheesh, I think that was the third bump-post of that kind already ... did it before, yes I confess I am guilty ... although that was months ago. No, I am not going to search for it now By the way, as the above video doesn't exist anymore, here is another (song's called "Round and Round"): Cheers!
  13. Oh, I remember that book ... I have been at the "presentation" of that piece. Tom Rom and Pascal Querner are from Austria, so it's logical that the popularity of that thing is considerable in the local scene... Well, that presentation was more or less just a visual session from El Geko where he showed off video bits from festivals (which is, frankly, totally uninteresting for me -- I like El Geko, but for the style he normally has in his visuals, which is generally not only festival bits from locations I haven't been ) ... since he is the creator of the DVD for this book, the content on the DVD is similar to that anyway, save the interviews... The DVD, besides, seems to be ripped onto youtube anyway, anybody can watch it from there. The best part of it for me being the "Klein aber Doctor" outro After I saw that, I never was too fond of the book though, there was no interest created in me. I therefore can not give feedback in the form of a review ... I do appreciate Kris' critical comments though, they are kinda in the direction of what lingered in my mind also. The video (and actually the reception that reached me from the whole project so far and wide) has a general impression on me like if there was a slight "let's just show some people partying and it will be okay" mentality. And that's not what I'm after. I do enjoy it, but I don't need a book and DVD for that...
  14. I don't have that many ... I wasn't allowed to watch so much TV Duck Tales was the only one I was watching regularly... I also loved Looney Tunes. And especially Coyote and Roadrunner. ...I compensate the cartoon deficite from the 90's by nowadays watching excessive amounts of Spongebob Squarepants
  15. That owns ... I knew such effects beforehand, but this one is the best so far...
  16. To me, Shiva Chandra aka Daniel Vernunft is an absolutely awesome artist. There practically is nothing you can compare him with. He has a sound so unique it is very recognizable. Even when he makes these days more stuff that goes into the classical "progressive" direction, it still has several key elements that are sounding very characteristic for him. At first, I couldn't connect with his sound (I didn't know Spicy Moments back then -- that's probably the most accessible album for fans of "traditional goa"), it was too strange for me and too monotonous. Only after I had recognized the genious in the repetitiveness and the characteristics of the harshly cut type of the kick and hihat combo that gives it a very pushing feel ... and the awesome combination of melody bits thrown in here and there (such as in some of the stuff on Lunaspice), then I saw clearer and got totally hooked on this stuff over time. Meanwhile Shiva Chandra is one of my favourite artists. And with the last album, he proved for me that the psy music is not dead, actually far from it. I really like about him also the fact that he uses totally own and incredibly originally sounding effects. There is not this deja vu feeling of some voice sample from sample CDs used by several guys or this and that synth preset ... no, he twists and turns the sounds all by himself, sometimes using uncommon methods -- I for example believe the sounds at the beginning of "Microphone" created with the mouth (by himself?) and so on... There is actually no bad track from him, I have discovered. There are just tracks that fit the current mood and tracks that don't. But a bad one I never recognized -- and if, then I discovered it to be not so bad at a later time. It has to do with these key elements I explained above, the tracks just have such a natural and uncomplicated feel to them, as if there were integrated into my brain, kinda. For the vote I picked Auricular as I think that's the album that most represents the style he is known for. I do like the three albums before a lot too though, almost equal. The style just got more cracking with Auricular and that's what I like most. Actually that was the point where I find the tracks the most cracking in his entire period. The later albums I do like a little less, but it's just a very little bit... The warm sounds he uses can't make me dislike anything. Yes, that really fits ... because even if the track might be rather on the progressive side, the sounds always have this kind of warm and rich character, like coming from a vinyl... The best track, I have to say, for me is Remote Controlled though. That's largely due to the fact that I have been running to it on some travels though and saw the beauty what this track actually holds ... when you reach a passage with great view for example and this one plays and you just can't stop running on and on and on and get even more endorphines from all this ... granted, chance has to be on your side, but it surely was on mine and I do have to say that due to this, I love to get remote controlled by this track anytime anywhere now. Remote Controlled, together with Return To Atlantis on a 12" vinyl, 45 rpm, etched deep and widely -- that would be my dream! I swear, one day I'll etch it myself if it's not coming otherwise.
  17. I do like this "endless sugar rush" type of concept a lot ... but unfortunately the bpm of the above stuff is too fast for me. I's just above my rhythm. Despite it might be used everywhere nowadays, I still need the characteristic kick-bassline combo ... and there must be enough miliseconds time to accomodate and for me to perceive it properly. Guess that makes me rather a listener of stuff still from the "darkpsy" layer that obviously seems to become the "High Tech" at bpm's over 160? Not too long ago I had the pleasure to enjoy a set that felt just as intense, but with a bpm more in the area where I can connect better ... such as 155bpm (don't know, arbitrary ... but when now comparing 155bpm pieces it could be fitting ... sure not under 150). And it wasn't merely darkpsy (or it didn't feel to be) ... there was lots more to it, it felt colorful. And I do have to say this was one of the best sets I witnessed since long ... kinda brought back all hopes to me that the music really has not gone to shit (like in the other thread )... Is "High Tech" really defined by the 160bpm border? Or are there maybe 155bpm or 150bpm "High Tech" pieces aswell? I'd be curious to have a listen to some of those...
  18. I didn't know that video before ... but I agree pretty much. Sounds like the recipe for an ordinary full on track. There are only some exceptions where these things are not annoying nowadays... And prog is going down the drain into the bubblegum direction -- well, actually it had been going down already long before. But there are still innovators ... and as long as we support them, this music will not fail - for us...
  19. Well, that saying of mine was hypothetically meant in the direction: "what if you would have to make a living out of your art?" But anyway... Define "collective". What difference does it make whether 1000 individual people or "a collective", consisting of these 1000 people, appreciate your work when the base of "the collective" is merely appreciating your work. What is a "collective" if not a group of people having the same interests? A collective only exists where people have similar interests. At points where people within the collective differ, they will not act like a collective anymore. So whether there's "1000 individual people" enoying your art of if you have "a collective of 1000 people" that enjoy your art, doesn't make a difference in my eyes. It's in both cases 1000 people united by the fact that they like your art. Nothing else. Some of them will maybe be vegetarian or eat meat, some will be eco-friendly, some not ... but these aspects are not part of this and therefore there will be other collectives, completely different ones, when it comes to these points... Or how do you see that?
  20. Thanks for the kind words and the input. Yeah, I fortunately too have found these benzodiazepine things, they do help me when it's really awful, but at the same time they bear dangers of addiction, so they really are only an emergency remedy for me. I better try without as long as I can. Alhough having them ready at hand at least makes me less nervous.
  21. The pamphlet is all fine, but what are you now going to do now that you read it? Does it inspire you to do something? If yes, what? It should be kept in mind that without any "collective" appreciating the artists work (or requesting the producers' goods), the artist/producer will be worthless. You need somebody requesting what you are doing -- or somebody to appreciate it and support you. It won't work without interaction -- with the collective...
  22. I hate the breaks. In earlier times, you had fewer of them and they were wisely put and structured. Nowadays, it's bam-bam-bam -- break, "drop" like you are in dubstep (did I mention that I hate dubstep? sorry can't help myself), maybe a sample or something of a guy calling something about drugs, freakouts or just anything meaningless -- then bam-bam-bam again. You feel like dancing like a maniac, then you suddenly stop and think where the fuck you are, then you wanna dance like a maniac again. Where on earth is the continuity that trance should be about?! The breaks got more frequent, but the parts between the breaks got more intense -- a paradox if you ask me. I really had nothing against breaks, but these days when they play that shit full on I feel like Wiley Coyote taking the earthquake pills (I'm sure you know that one )... And then these awful "drag-ups" every, like, ten or twenty seconds ... where beat gets faster, accompanied by screeching upwards synth whirls, then a break and continue. Fine if you do that once in a while, but fifty times in a track?! Come on, that's pathetic!
  23. I don't know how to put this. Officially, in my record, there is nothing. I have panic attacks, but I never got examined that thoroughly. Seems like the doctors don't know themselves. First time I saw a psycho checkup I was diagnosed having kind of drug "flashbacks" and that it's harmless and would settle. Second time I went to such a thing because of panic and generally feeling bad I got the answer that I have nothing and would need just a proper job. And the last attempt of getting a cure led to antidepressants prescriptions ... and I don't wanna take these. That were my experiences with three different doctors. What I can say is that I sleep very bad sometimes. And sometimes I have some sort of "panic attacks", don't know a better word for it. Intense fear -- but it's not the type of fear of something external (that a fire would break out or so), I have these fears too, but I can keep them under control. The bad thing is, that it seems to affect something internal ... like the fear of getting crazy... I don't know how to put it proper. Maybe another time. I think it's rather the other way round. Because, you need some kind of precognition to be drawn to his music -- and especially so much drawn to it that you become that much a part of the scene as we are here. Many of my friends now listen to "goatrance" too -- or what is played at goa parties today -- and they visit the parties, but they would not go deeper into the scene as in collecting releases or anything ... that's where I would not say they have a precognition...
  24. Damn, I still didn't give Phaedra that well deserved re-spin. Thanks for the reminder
  25. Hmmm. I don't know too much about the mathematics stuff and all that, but once I delivered an explanation of this to somebody and he found it good, so maybe it helps. I would say, theoretically a 4th dimension would be a single line on which each dot (you know, dots on a line, infinitely small ones etc.) would represent a 3 dimensional image. Just like the "timeline" that Procyon mentioned. A moving object in space would therefore be a series of these 3 dimensional images on that line where the object is pictured slightly different in each of those, just like if it were a movie -- note that to achieve perfection you'd have to draw the differences infinitely small, but you can't do that -- then, after all, even the human perception has a "refresh rate", so it's not even unnatural. You could then do that with 5 dimensions and more too (in 5 dimensions it would not be a single line but a pane, where each spot in the pane represents a 3 dimenisonal image)...
