  2. Hey, I must say lately I'm digging Anthony Rother a lot! I never listened to any of his stuff because I thought "Rother is kinda popular, so he must be shit" (yeah, how stupid) ... but then one day I more or less accidentally listened to one of his songs and I was very positively surprised. Point is though, Anthony Rother is a two-sided sword for me. I found that he has songs which I love, but also some I don't like at all. I discovered that in the past the guy did many works which were great, but the rather newer stuff is not that much to my liking anymore. The key to this lies not only in the sound, actually I don't dig the sound that much per se, but also in the theme the music is about. In an article I found the best description why I like the theme: the music is technology-critical! And in the openminded techno/trance (and also psy) scene, where technological advance and new ways of thinking and cosmic or whatever development is generally something that is appreciated and looked forward to, I find this theme, which is a rather critical opposite to the aforementioned subjects to be an extraordinary exception. Combined with the kraftwerk-esque technoish sound that Rother had in the past this is totally awesome (by the way, Krafwerk are also technology-critical, remember Radioaktivität). When I listen to this I feel reminded of old days, old films and my old way of thinking, this good oldskoolish (to me) feeling of technology-critisism paired with computers, cyberspace, utopia, late-night tiredness, some mystery and such ... this is great! I'm still digging into his stuff at the moment but I must say I adore his song Hacker, this one is really really awesome! Also Biomechanik, this one is great aswell. And Maschinenwelt and La Bete. I haven't heard the complete album "Hacker" yet (since three of the aforementioned are from that album), but I definitely will because I gotta say I like that type of sound, the rest of what I heard from it was good aswell... And then I also like Father ... but not because of technology-critisism, this tune is just awesome Point is though, I don't really dig the rest of Rother's work hat I heard. I mean, it's not awful, you know, I can listen to it, but it just doesn't kick. It feels like there's something missing. It's rather the newer stuff that doesn't kick. On his Myspace, Father is the only one that I dig. I don't know. Any comments? Recommendations? Point is, I don't want "ordinary" techno (even though I gotta re-constuct my picture of it because I always thought techno = schranz, but that's the chav variant and I fell for that illusion) ... I don't even think I'm ready for that yet. I want some with this oldschoolish touch. Old sound. And it should be kinda technology-critical. Not pessimistic, but critical. I totally dig this right now... Machines, computers ... any good techno sound in that direction? Preferably with german text, the german text fits to this theme, I dunno why...
  3. Yeah, what I know of it is good indeed ... hell, I already heard so much positive stuff about this album and still haven't heard all of it, what a shame. I used to dig Atrium Carceri - Cellblock... Other than that I strongly recommend: Ulf Söderberg - Vindarnas Hus ... very good. Ulf Söderberg, who also calls himself Sephiroth is brilliant IMO. It's dark ambient mixed with tribal percussion elements ... everything I heard from Ulf and his Sephiroth moniker so far was absolutely perfect ... it has a very deep, dark and mystic atmosphere, something that goes beyond mere ambient or mere tribal ... very awesome ... this stuff is already SO GOOD that I am not intending to ever own all of his albums because I want to save one or two up for really bad times where I have something positive to look out to Desiderii Marginis - That Which Is Tragic And Timeless. Interesting because he's using a guitar in some songs. I like it how the guitar gives a warmth and personal feel to the music I am missing in most dark ambient stuff. Very good actually! And Still Life is one helluva cold and sad song IMO... Kammarheit - The Starwheel. One word: drone. If you like drone, I bet you'll like this one! Lately I'm very fond of samples from Oorchach - Chtonikka aswell, this is the only one I found that comes at least a little closer to Ulf Söderberg in terms of deep atmosphere, but it's on the gothic/industrial end of the scale ... it's sold out right now though and I don't own it.
  4. nice list ... this is cool although physically I only own 13 items of that whole lot (listened to more though)
  5. I'd put it like that: Matenda sounds similar to 12Moons, Solar Fields - Earthshine sounds similar to Matenda (in other words: check out Matenda )
  6. Thanks for the tip, I was still missing Wonderground By the way, any other news about him? Did he stop making music? This move could be a signal for it. I really like his stuff, it would be a pity if he gave up. I'm worried.
  7. you mean there WERE ... at the time there are none that I know of... but nevermind, my life seems to be changing now anyway ... actually the timing is good well, I'll keep coming back here, to get news and reviews ... and if anybody really would give anything to talk to me then there's PM... so long
  8. Despite there's no OT forum anymore and even 48hrs has been shut down, I'm still glad this place is back the way it is. The only thing I meanwhile want is a nice place where people talk about the music I like and about new releases and such ... I'd be quite cut off from the development of the scene if this forum went down ... I know I could go elsewhere, but it wouldn't be the same... So big thanks for bringing it back up Yikes! I know that site, it's handy, I looked around it sometimes in the past ... but I never knew it had psynews logins! Damn, if a login can be found on THAT site (which is not so underground), then there's fire on the roof, because you can be quite sure much more leaked out... Instant ban the member with that login plz. On the other hand, maybe a bot entered it there? We had quite some bots here and people complaining they are getting more and more intelligent ... maybe some of them also post the login on sites? You never know.
  9. fully agree with all of this one ... except classical, but even that I've started to like more than before my music repertoire has changed a lot over the last years from a trance-only list (gosh, I was even more closeminded than Radi back then ) to a wide variety of genres and bands ... from psytrance and chill over dark ambient and industrial up to various forms of metal (including the famous crazy finnish humppa metal ), rock, jazz, electronic even up to hiphop (couldn't believe it, always hated that) and indescriptible genres (Attwenger!)... So you can't really fix intelligence to a music genre ... rather measure intelligence by seeing how openminded the persons listening to music are... oh and +1 to the friendly metal people aswell ... most of them are ... although fights can take place when they are drunk enough, but they're never aggressive, evil fights but rather a good old fun beating to spice up the evening... you know, on the few chav "rave" (schranz techno, commercial trance and hardstyle) events I have been to I sometimes felt this kind of agoraphobia coming up in me ... it's like I can smell the aggression in the air and when there's a fight somewhere it's never cool but always emotionally aggressive, evil, biting ... you can sense the unfriendliness and aggression there ... it's horrible ... I don't wanna be there ... on metal or psy festies I feel a kind of warmth, a kind of comfort even if there are mosh pits or crazy dancers ... it's a good kind of aggression and not the type of explosive unfriendly cold I experienced on those chav raves...
  10. I'd not say that there's a rule that persons who listen to more complex music are more intelligent. You can't strip it down that way. However, I'd agree that it has to do with some sort of brainwave state that affects the music you hear, something that goes deeper than mere taste, you know. It's some kind of partnership, so to say ... your mind state influences your musical preference and the music you hear influences your mindstate. And this goes beyond the simple "today I'm tired, so I listen to chill"-rules...
  11. guys, I know this is from Blade I don't even find that acid line good, seriously! The acid line is NOT what I find so good in that track. I like the other stuff around the acid line! Nice progression
  12. hey! Sample of track 3 me likes! Not bad. But the rest is not good. First track maybe. Rest crap. And track 8 is absolute I'm just grinning because I saw this coming
  13. OMG, guys, I totally forgot 12 Moons! Solid State meets all my criteria. Almost everything perfect on that one!
  14. hey, thanks, this is good! I dunno why, but I always thought XV Kilist was crap ... glad to finally see it's not
  15. 1. Morning/Dark balance morning 2. Maximal/Minimal balance 75% minimal, 25% maximal 3. Trance/Techno balance rather more trance elements, but not of the overplayed crappy emo kind ... I'd say 2/3 trance, 1/3 techno 4. Genre balance 70% progressive, 20% house, 10% psy 5. BPM around 140 6. Signature surprise me! or not. not important. 4/4 is okay 7. Length around 8 to 10 minutes 8. Melodies Yes, please - but simple ones! Not much complexity, rather play with hidden melodies or melodies inside melodies, I love that. They should be simple and minimalistically crafted though. Best if the melodies themselves actually are ambient melodies (also played by an ambient synth and pad effects), just underlined with the bassline and kick... 9. Bassline rather sharp and driving, please 10. Percussion Status no sharp kick, rather dampen the kick a little ... but not too much... not too much focus on hihats either 11. Intro/Outro Intro rather short. Ambient pads and synth usage in the outro please. Bassline can after-resonate aswell. Magnetrixx - Gluonball has a wonderful outro... 12. Layers less is more, although I'd beg for a few well hidden ones 13. Build Ups/Climaxes not needed and if there are then no big ones please, more smaller ones are okay, more variety... 14. Twists/Breaks/Turns/Changes not too much please, a little is okay, I also like developing tracks 15. Spoken samples/Singing/Real Organs No real organs. Singing mostly ruins the track aswell, only fits on rare occasions. Spoken samples are okay, especially in a sci-fi or philosophical way. No drug madness stupidity please. Perfect synaesthesia color: blue-purple-red Tracks that fit my description the best: S-Range - Larger Plan S-Range - Morning Star Matenda - Perspectives Matenda - Lipo Mare Matenda - No Return Noma - Soon Atmos - Fill The Hat Etnoscope - Cloud Surfing Son Kite - Aiwana ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ME? (don't say Human Blue now, I know that already )
  16. sounds good I'm curious how you'll do it ... I have a bit of a plan in my head, wanna know if you follow it
  17. really? cool! I'd have a mix list: Noma - Soon Magnetrixx - Tohuwabohu Prisoners Of The Sun - Polen Peitsche S-Range - Fire Wire Prex - S4 Matenda - Pusher Matenda - Novo Jutro Setherian - Trust Me Kaempfer & Dietze - Waiting For Solar Fields - Kick Back S-Range - 2001 (in order) like it?
  18. Ah, thanks for that remark. It's important to consider, even though this is no Ultimae release, but it's in that style... I guess I could live without flow, since there are breaks. Thanks. I'll think about it, at the moment I'm a bit short on cash anyway...
  19. I do feel the same at least to an extent. I mean, I don't listen to that much goa (for these reasons), but still. It doesn't matter that much though because the market hasn't been flooded with the stuff as it is the case with full on music now. And I even like the "this sounds similar in a way"-syndrome, at least when it's not overused...
  20. I downloaded, but I don't really get the video...
  21. All S-Range, definitely All Etnoscope aswell. But I generally have the (to many people strange seeming) policy to NOT listen to the stuff a lot that I like When I really love some music I hardly ever listen to it because I find no situation worthy enough of such greatness! Carbon Based Lifeforms is the best example. I am a huge, an enormous fan, yet I listened to Hydroponic Garden (the best ambient album ever) maybe only fifteen times as of now. Funny, isn't it? But I have the fear that I might spoil a perfect piece of music through only the slightest different influence. In this context I'm beyond obsessive-compulsive! Only moderately good music gets played really often
  22. Matenda. Definitively. I mean, on the other hand it's not even so bad he's underrated, this way he'll remain a kind of secret tip...
  23. Now THAT is a genious one! Cheers for that link, I only knew the short video version...
