I have been to a trance open air last summer. Paul Van Dyk was coming, so I thought I'd go see him. Well, I witnessed two fights in the middle of the crowd and from one I even got hit as a bystander. Nice, huh? Because you don't only have to look out that you don't bump into anybody, you also gotta keep a lookout if others begin a fight so that you don't get hit by anyone of them. And the music was quite dull and uninspired (I only like the old PvD stuff, but he didn't play any). All in all an experience that I can afford to miss with a smile next time. you're right ... that's actually the reason why psytrance parties are quite peaceful, because many people are on some substance and the ones who aren't (mostly) know it and don't make stress. At least in general. I mean yeah, I also occasionally witness a bit of ennerving stuff going on, yeah, but never violence. And it's no comparsion at all to trance parties (from my point of view). I didn't go to that many, but I kinda always was nervous there ... and I felt instantly at home on my first psy party as I saw the contrast. Still, I wouldn't want to have Yakuza's there. I'm actually happy that in my little country we don't have this kind of violent openfaced mafia stuff. It's there still, but hidden (yep ) and nobody wants stress, you know? That's why you're quite safe here if you know where to go and stay off chavs...

Trance parties are indeed rubbish - the majority are aggressive chavs on speed. It's sometimes so much sparkling aggression there the hair on your back stands up. And you have to constantly keep a lookout to right and left to not touch anybody at all costs because that would piss them off resulting in you risking getting beaten up. Awful. Psytrance parties on the other hand, they are nice

I don't know ... the message of a new album didn't knock my socks off, because I'm fed up with Entheogenic's last outputs. But now that I see so many people talking about it...? Would you say it's good? I mean, would you say this to a guy who liked them at first but then got bored by them aswell?

yes, that's what I meant with "luck". You gotta have it. I found some stuff in metal used CD stores. Seriously. They didn't know what to do with that "useless crap of sound" (their opinion) and threw it out for a bargain price. In such situations it's handy when you actually listen to metal and have a reason digging through these stores...

I'm with the people who say the groups are not the guilty ones. I find the idea great that you team up together with a few people, everybody legally buys three releases or so and rips them and so you can get all the good music that was released throughout the year for the price of just three albums. Do this in a small enough circle with only a few people and everybody will be happy - you, because you pay only for three albums, your mates aswell and the recording industry aswell because they don't stand there with nothing because if several of these circles existed around the world every one of them will buy one release! I think that's what this thing with the ripper groups was about at first. But then groups became too big, releases soaked out and it resulted in everybody downloading, nobody paying and it developed to the catastrope we have now. Bring it back the old way, the way sharing was originally before Napster and all that and you'll see it will be all cool for everybody.

Cash and trade and luck, that's the only three methods there are. Don't you think I'm not on the search for old classics? Don't you think almost everybody on here still misses something in his/her collection? Indeed, I am and they are. In fact I'm still missing a lot. That's mainly because of the prices - I don't wanna pay big amounts of money for just CDs, you know. The most I ever paid was 20 Euros and that was for Goa-Head 21. I don't go above that. Which brings me to the latter of the three things I mentioned beforehand: luck. You gotta have it. I had it in some few cases and I'm damn happy about it. Nothing beats the grin on your face once you found something great and old and sought after for a real bargain price. And if you don't have luck, have money. That's it. And in some rare cases you won't even win it with money - you gotta trade. Just wait. After some time you'll realize that waiting can be a cool thing and that the joy is even greater when you get something at last.

ouch... ouch to the packaging concept of that mentioned Watanabe album aswell... and ouch to all CD cases where you have to slide the CD into - I don't mean the professional plastic DJ CD sleeves though, no, I'm talking about a cardboard sleeve thing. I've got this one album where the digipak is actually a book and the last "page" in the book is the CD sleeve. This strategy together with not the best CD coating is fatal. You can be as careful as you want (and I really am careful when it comes to my CDs, really), it's inevitable to take the CD in and out without tiny scratches... But I never ever had known a case where a sealed jewel case or digipak (as in this case - I assume that Ultimae piece came in the characteristic digipak aswell) contained a scratched or broken CD. This is strange.

Sealed and scratched? I didn't even think that this was possible! You should go ask at the store. Maybe the other copies they have are scratched aswell? And you should email Ultimae! Maybe more of the CDs have defects and they don't know! Or maybe they can do something about your misery. Good luck. This sure is a bummer. Hope it never happens to me...

less please... At first it was cool, but now my reactions range from "not impressed" to "it's plain annoying". If the sample would at least be original, something cool! Do you know Shiva Chandra - Machine Planet? It's not chill music, but still an example of awesomely used samples. That sample of a woman singing in some strange way ... it's totally awesomely genious, I can't get enough of it! Also the way the sample is arranged - once forward, then reverse. Wonderful! I want to hear it again and again! THAT's what samples are here for! (unfortunately the sample's not unique, Deep Dive Corp used it aswell ... ... but still, genious)

I don't listen to much Goa Trance. It's something I hardly ever put on. It's too intense for me, I get crazy. I can listen to this stuff only in smaller doses. It simply is too energetic, I don't have many occasions where I want to hear this type of sound (parties excluded!). It's the same case with Black Metal ... also too intense music, I hardly ever listen to it at home. On concerts though, yeah, there it's okay... I'm actually no Goa Head in any way. I think I can't even say I'm a characteristic Psyhead. Much stuff is too intense. The type of music I regularly listen to is scando trance, progressive (all variations from Peter Gun to Noma) and chill. Maybe a bit of freaky stuff thrown in between such as Eat Static or Banco De Gaia and occasionally a bit darker stuff, but that's it. Some years ago I used to listen to more actual Psy and Goa Trance...

This is actually a harder question ... to name one track that defines the whole Goa Trance genre. I'm tempted to mention Dimension 5, Astral, Man With No Name and Hallucinogen all at once... But no, I will only name one. RA - Initiated. It has everything that I associate with Goa Trance. The structure, the synth effects ... maybe a bit too much noise channel in the effects here and there, characteristically it's less, but well. That's what Goa Trance is for me. I got into this stuff through music like this - Dimension 5 and such ... and I absolutely integrated this very special type of sound (which is different to Hallucinogen, Mwnn, Astral and all the others) as THE Goa Trance. It's integrated in my mind. Of couse other artists make Goa Trance aswell, but the first thing that pops into my mind whenever somebody mentions Goa Trance is this type of sound

I can't stand all of these well known samples anymore ... Matrix, Terrence McKenna and all the likes ... horrible. I don't even find that "to stay awake and play for seven days"-sample attractive anymore. Same goes for the ethno-samples from "that sample CD" (everybody refers to it as that) of which some chill artists were using the same ones all the time. Freakin' annoying. Samples should only be used once, that's what I think. Okay, maybe twice, because the chance for a listener to get to know both songs more or less at the same time is not that likely. That's okay. But not more often, it gets annoying. I actually find that many of the artists I like to listen to use samples wisely and originally. S-Range, Matenda, Atmos, Magnetrixx, Shiva Chandra ... they don't use all the same generic stuff but original and new samples which haven't been heard a hundred times before ... some of them (the latter three) even play with samples, use speech as a kind of element in their songs. That's what I like aswell. haha, this is actually one of the best ideas for a sample itself

Mostly I listen to music while working at the computer - be it working for my thesis or posting on forums. In the past there were many mp3s I listened to, but nowadays more and more often I put real audio CDs into the drive. I also enjoy it while painting, the CD being in the comp or in the DVD player. I only paint sometimes though. Running of course aswell. Meanwhile I go jogging with my mp3 player (and not my MD anymore) with newer music on it aswell occasionally. Going for a walk and listening stuff is also really good. Tend to listen to psy during walks only when I have a hangover and want to walk it off though - the psy then drives me to move and go on despite the headache. Sometimes I also like just enjoying the sound on the sofa - with and without headphones. Household work is also done better with sound. I only very seldom do household work though And sometimes I like to go to sleep to the sound ... ambient stuff only though...

I generally prefer albums, but V/A's are important aswell sometimes. V/A's are great to get to know new artists or to have a centralized release for a certain music style. Unfortunately not all of them are blended and harmonized well...

RIGHT! The hippie ethno stuff goes on the nerves after the 100th use (Dakini records excluded ). Entheogenic for example ... I was a big fan at the beginning (as this Ethno wave started through somehow), but then lost interest rather quickly and now I don't give a flat f... about them. Ott aswell. But it's not all ethno: yes, yes and yes! This man is right. The music from Healer is in the same vein btw. Also Chilling Matenda ... no ennerving hippie ethno going on there, only pure chilled beauty

I'd like to write some reviews, but first I don't have the money to buy the new albums and second I'm lazy... Not exactly a good combination, eh? Only maybe two or three times a year there's the case where I buy an album and am seriously eager to review it at least in some way...
