DP forgot to vote? Priceless I'd never have thought that this is possible... Ey, DP, you really aren't here often anymore, are you?

Mostly I listen to music while working at the computer - be it working for my thesis or posting on forums. In the past there were many mp3s I listened to, but nowadays more and more often I put real audio CDs into the drive. I also enjoy it while painting, the CD being in the comp or in the DVD player. I only paint sometimes though. Running of course aswell. Meanwhile I go jogging with my mp3 player (and not my MD anymore) with newer music on it aswell occasionally. Going for a walk and listening stuff is also really good. Tend to listen to psy during walks only when I have a hangover and want to walk it off though - the psy then drives me to move and go on despite the headache. Sometimes I also like just enjoying the sound on the sofa - with and without headphones. Household work is also done better with sound. I only very seldom do household work though And sometimes I like to go to sleep to the sound ... ambient stuff only though...

I generally prefer albums, but V/A's are important aswell sometimes. V/A's are great to get to know new artists or to have a centralized release for a certain music style. Unfortunately not all of them are blended and harmonized well...

RIGHT! The hippie ethno stuff goes on the nerves after the 100th use (Dakini records excluded ). Entheogenic for example ... I was a big fan at the beginning (as this Ethno wave started through somehow), but then lost interest rather quickly and now I don't give a flat f... about them. Ott aswell. But it's not all ethno: yes, yes and yes! This man is right. The music from Healer is in the same vein btw. Also Chilling Matenda ... no ennerving hippie ethno going on there, only pure chilled beauty

I'd like to write some reviews, but first I don't have the money to buy the new albums and second I'm lazy... Not exactly a good combination, eh? Only maybe two or three times a year there's the case where I buy an album and am seriously eager to review it at least in some way...
-
ah, interesting didn't know them, thanks for recommending ... TMO seems to sound more intense though...

Synergetic Records - http://www.suntribe.at/synergetic/ Austrian label ( ), founded by DJ Acan. They've released the newest Feuerhake album. Also home of Ovnimoon and Funky Dragon (before he went to Iono Music ... oh btw, Iono is a good label aswell IMO). Actually a quite good label despite I don't own any of their releases (yet). Too bad they don't organize psy gatherings anymore...

Around 140 bpm On parties it can be a bit above if the sound is good, at home it should be below (that's why I voted for 120-140) since I like prog. That's about it. Beatless is fine aswell, for ambient, but I'm not listening that often to it.

Subsonic is actually very good! You should go get it if you can ... the Video CD is a nice bonus aswell. I'm surprised you don't like the Auricular album though, that one is absolutely awesome. And Symbol ... well, the samples continue to make a too unattractive impression on me. The only song that I somehow find more comparable to earlier stuff (and better than the rest) is Remote Controlled - on myspace they even got the full version up to listen Return To Atlantis is okay aswell ... but the rest I heard didn't sound very attractive ... the album is clearly no candidate for the best of list from last year for me. Daniel used to do better. And it seems that quite some others got that opinion aswell. I'd only pay for the two mentioned songs. They should release an EP with these on it (like they did with Subsonic!), maybe 12 Hours on it aswell, then I might eventually be persuaded to buy the piece.

yeah, that's kinda what I think aswell, so I'm not impressed I found his earlier stuff better ... up to Change Of Air it was really good ... well, at least what I've heard of it...

As I'm quite a fan of Shiva Chandra I'm asking for some opinions. I didn't see this album mentioned or reviewed anywhere (except of a promo post (in the wrong subforum) on here and on other forums ). Has anybody heard it yet? I was half-playing with the thought that I maybe might buy this one ... but right now I'm checking samples and they don't convince me. He has changed his music a bit and now it's like he mixed the style he drove until now with prog-house influences ... and I don't like this, it leaves an icky sweet-sour aftertaste. And in addition to that I feel like the weirdness is gone ... the special, Shiva Chandra-esque kind of "whimsicalness" ("mischievousness" states the dictionary for that word, but I don't mean mischievous, I mean whimsical), you know (or you don't know, either way ), the weird repetitive sounds (read: weird, Symbol is only repetitive) ... I miss it in the samples ... I can't hear it, only sometimes it is there, but dim and little. Anyway, it's not what it used to be. I don't find it bad when artists change, but this stuff is not that good. Samples didn't convince me. It's not bad in the sense of awful, but I don't want to spend my money on that, I don't have that much. So are there other opinions? Anyone got this album and can tell me if my impression is true? Or does it grow on the listener? And besides, Shiva chandra now has myspace (and a website seems to be under construction). That's odd aswell. He never had this kind of stuff. That's obviously the consequence of him switching to Spintwist Rec. ... they make him a website and a myspace while Sinn-Tec and Spirit Zone didn't. Ergo it's more commercially oriented. I know, prejudice, but I have it.

you forgot ATMOS - BAD 2 THE BONE
-
yes, that sums it up pretty well Better 30 minutes of good stuff than nothing. And if the artist "decides to wait", nothing is the alternative you get. Sometimes even forever.
-
somehow I think I really should listen again to Phaedra...
-
Ah, I kinda know what you mean. This "ambient behind" kind of stuff I, however, am recognising this in more or less every "scando trance" type of track from many other artists aswell (at least in the panoramic ones - the panoramic ones are characteristic scando trance for me). That's the reason why I say Earthshine doesn't sound so different, hehe. It's also the reason why I like this type of trance so much ... because when you listen you can mostly recognise a sort of ambience behind - a calm, warm synth line that plays a melody which on its own could be included in an ambient track more or less right away. I'm glad that Earthshine has it aswell, that's just what makes it even more scando trance like
-
Ant-Zen is one of the most interesting labels out there. Three words to love 'em even more: This Morn Omina
-
I definitely agree with the fact that Earthshine is not as good as Magnus' ambient works. The next album will be ambient again anyway, don't worry But Earthshine sounding like trance mixed with ambient? I don't think so, I think it's more or less pure scando trance...

I actually have two Tangerine Dream vinyls ... bought them because I got curious from people's talks on here (there was already a thread about Tangerine Dream some longer time ago I remember) ... one is their Phaedra gatefold vinyl ... but I remember it being quite dull, I didn't like it. And the other one has an orange with a headphone cable plugged into it on the cover ... that one is great. It sounds like another band compared to Phaedra. Can anybody explain me why they sound so different? And can anybody recommend me more of them that doesn't sound like Phaedra?
-
yep, exactly what I wanted to say... be sure to check them out, this is the best tribal trance stuff I know!
-
Good question what actually happened to this one. I totally forgot it was originally scheduled for release in spring last year... Did you get the two versions of the Manifold track released on Beatport?
-
HA! I suggested that name change YEARS ago! Nobody did listen to me! And none of you will do it now either or will ya? Anyways, I kinda saw that John 00 Fleming CD coming since they invited him to play here to a psytrance gathering. That also was years ago. But as I saw the name John 00 Fleming on the flyer, which for me rather belongs to trance than to psy-trance, I knew it was somewhat going down. That was one of the venues I didn't go to... I'm not unhappy that after that gig another organizer took up the parties at that location ... one who brought "real" psy back again Thing is, if you go to Flemmi's myspace, the music he presents there is not even SOO bad. But it's just sounds like somewhat better trance to me and not psy... (except what they did to Muse on the last piece ... brrr, awful to hear that...)
-
lol, just today I was listening to it again aswell
-
Oh nooo ... so Free Kings went down as well Sad. That makes it three (actually four) nice shops gone down. What the heck is still left? Does that mean next time I go to A'damn I won't bring home some fresh psy stuff? Not cool. At least you found some stuff...
-
Well, all I can say is that this is actually a really good album! Phase Shift was the first psytrance release I got more or less aware of while browsing through Psyshop and the likes. I, however, was afraid of online ordering back then and thus I never got it ... but fortunately both of that has finally changed! I now only own this one, but since I know some tracks off the other albums I can say that it sounds different to Trittschall and very different from Wired, although it can be classified to be more related to the first album... What you get throughout the whole piece is a progressive sound, but a quite original and distinctive one. No other artist I know has got this kind of sound and effects. That's a good thing. Also the sound is very crisp, it has edge, it's actually even sexy ... I really like that. The opener is nice, gets you into the vibe pretty well. But the second track is more interesting; Tohuwabohu is really good, I remember this being on Goa Head 18 and I already loved it as I bought that one, hehe. You have to let it grow though, I needed my time. The third and fourth track are not that special ... third is still better than the fourth though, quite okay actually, higher bpm and more groovy, the fourth is more boring ... but if you are past those two you can be sure it doesn't get worse. Fifth one, Ziggzagg, is very good ... nice groove and more upbeat progression! Then the title track ... at first I didn't like it that much of a lot, but it grows, this reveals to be actually really good stuff! Sums up the overall vibe of the piece pretty well. And then, be ready for Zuversucht! For me this is clearly the best one on the album! Upbeat, nice and original effects, getting even better in the later parts, a perfect piece. And then Gluonball! This one also is absolutely perfect! I own this track since some years already and have been running to it quite often meanwhile and I must say this distinctive uplifting synth pad, it comes totally awesome each time it's used. Wonderful! And the track is perfectly finished off aswell. Overall impression is very good, but it's no true masterpiece aswell, no wet pants. One must be a sucker for this special kind of sound to really appreciate this piece for what it is, though. If you are, then a whimsical grin on your face will be certain for sure And the whole piece grows on you. Another sign for a nice and timeless investment. So ... well, the best outstanding tracks for me are clearly to be found in the later part. 7 and 8 are really awesome! 5 and 6 are really good aswell! In the first part only track 2 is somewhat outstanding. The rest is not that bad either though. Only number 4 is not my cup of tea... Now I only need to get the other two albums
