Great interview The very last part was weird though.

I too think psynews is one of the best places for reviews. Granted, the site is not always fast and some of the reviews are pretty loong with track descriptions so deatiled it doesn't even interest me anymore (earlier I thought that was cool though), but that's not really relevant for me anyway... If I can't find some review on here I search on isra and then via google...

The Official "Astral Projection" Appreciation Topic
RTP replied to Malevol3nt's topic in General Psytrance
Astral Projection are great, yes. I don't own too much of their stuff, plan to get more, but all I can say I liked everything I heard so far. And that includes the AMEN album of which many people say it's so bad ... what I heard of it was not bad... The point is though, as I saw them live they threw in some quite full-onish tracks that lack the power of the former Astral. The contrast became full clear and audible to me as they went back to their old stuff for some time and then reswitched to the new, it was like if it was another artist playing. And if that's what we can expect to hear on Open Society, then I'd really say too that Astral's gone. The Open Society track itself is not that bad though... -
Nooo, nooo, not now! Please! Please wait until I have seen you guys live! Please! Damn ... argh. And I never got to see them both DAMN.

To be honest: I'd not have known a single answer

Oh yeah, I did a quite big CD shopping spree back then as I was in A'damn Free Kings, Kerkstraat 119 ... I remember that one. Was quite nice, but the people there were struggling to keep the shop alive. Pay them a visit if you are near - and if the shop still exists (no warranty, anybody can tell?) - I think they deserve it And I can absolutely, ABSOLUTELY suggest Groove Connection ... that was a cool shop. Maybe you even can find something decent at a little discounted price. De Plaatboef was cool too ... found a Space Tribe CD for 1 Euro there, maybe you'll be lucky aswell? Furthermore there was a psy shop on one of those main streets/alleys, Moondrop was its name ... many people passing by ... don't remember the exact address, but if you walk around you'll find it for sure. Oh and Ozmali records was great, but that shop isn't around anymore what? they were the biggest, most diverse shop I've seen in A'damn ... bought discs there already on twice of my visits ... that's a pity if they close

I've got that one as well! It's quite good. Can recommend it. Meanwhile it should be available for a bread with butter ... the only tricky part is to find it...

A sad story I wouldn't have thought that Filipe is such a bad person, although I don't really know him (I have some of his music lying around). I mean ... it's not about that he signed with another label, you Metapsychic guys even said that's ok for you because you just want the best for him (which I find very respectable, you deserve more than a sixpack of beer for this). The reason why he's an asshole is that he practically ruined your work after that. I'd not have expected this guy to be such an arse. Strange. And sad. Although I didn't have any of your releases I really hope you two manage to get rid of the negativity and start anew again. I wish it for you. I can't see people being treated unfair. Makes me wanna punch something... Good luck to you. Enjoy your holiday and come back with fresh positive energy Oh and I'd still like to hear what Filipe would say about it. BTW, interesting coincidence with the Suntrip inbox aswell...

What you're saying is quite a big surprise to me ... I'd have thought Chi-A.D. stuff would be sold out quite fast or at least without problems... I bet you could make them go quite well with the right marketing. It surely has potential. I only don't have a clue of right marketing and I don't know anybody in the scene that could help. And I have not much money. So for these reasons I won't take the loot off you (sorry ). But I bet one can make something out of this...
-
absurd prices I always said I'd pay 10 Euros for it, but I already rised it to 20 Euros. But that's my last word. Anybody wanna sell? Seriously though, I'm sure in like 20 years when I'm no longer into the music I'll find that CD for 10 bucks somewhere. I'm absolutely sure. They always come when you don't need 'em anymore. It was already like that and it will always be like that. Yes, I know it.

Now that Ticon has jumped to the better place of trance
RTP replied to NEMO.BOFH's topic in General Psytrance
I like the track, really, but I hate her voice. It's TERRIBLE! Makes me wanna run away. It's so bad it ruins the whole track for me... -
Anybody remember Paragliders - Oasis? One of my favourite tracks back then.
-
NOMA - SOON ... best track ever I only know Another Time besides of it. Didn't know Avoid The Future. Must check that out.

Now that Ticon has jumped to the better place of trance
RTP replied to NEMO.BOFH's topic in General Psytrance
Ha, I kinda saw this coming! But well, who not... Prog-psy-house gets popular (not to say the negative word "commercial") ... it only was unknown who would bring it. Now we know. And we also know that it comes over the electro corner. Models On Cocaine instead of candyflippin' hippie chicks. Bright and polished club locations instead of dark cellars with bad air. The scene gets mature. Kinda. I only don't know if it's all good. The sound could be better btw. I do not own the album, but I also most likely will never own it as I don't like too many of the samples except 1987, Models on Cocaine (this one is an absolute killer though), 2 am and the last one - those four sound really good. But since I already got Models... for free totally legal from their site I won't spend 13 Euros just for 3 really good tracks. I need the cash anyway... -
Indeed, this album is wonderful. Wouldn't call it ambientish though, however, it also contains some of these moments. And the later Shiva Chandra albums are very good as well although his style got different. Don't know his latest one at all though...

Looking for Psytrance with Commodore 64 (SID) sounds
RTP replied to Kai-Q's topic in General Psytrance
It's not psytrance, but you should check out the band Thermostatic! They have some of this old skool Amiga sound and the likes. The guys from Carbon Based Lifeforms are members in it too You really should check this band out, they make good music. Especially Emmon - Wake Up Time (Thermostatic Remix) is a MUST listen -
yeah, it's always great feeling when the sun returns... I guess that has a bit to do with winter depression though, but I am not sure. Anyway, I don't take goa trance as the soundtrack for this period. Only scando trance. Nothing is better than S-Range or 12 Moons or Matenda on the ears and running/walking through a landscape white with snow under a bright sun in the blue sky. Some of the best feelings ever when combining it with a runner's high Scando trance all the way! In fact that and progressive are the only forms of trance I can listen to during the day. More intense stuff is reserved for the night hours

I already wanted to vote for long tracks, but then I realized I actually can't say that. I like long tracks as well as short ones. Take for example Makyo ... he's got some quite long tracks such as Vismaya or suzhou River and I absolutely love them. And then there are tracks like some Enigma or for example Shiva Chandra - Chilli Out (an absolutely genious piece), which are just 3 to 5 minutes long and are absolutely perfect as well. And one of my all time favourites, Matenda - Smiri Se, is 8 minutes long, which is in the middle. And I'd say in the average it comes to medium-long tracks. 7 to 9 minutes or so. Carbon Based Lifeforms' tracks are about that length or even shorter. That's what I like. Can be sometimes longer, can be sometimes shorter, but when you add it up to average then that value would come out. Is that long or short now?

wow ... I've never heard that from anybody else before that's a lesson on how to think for all the negative pessimists out there... respect!

I was 16 as well as I started going to parties But I never felt insecure. On the contrary ... the fact that I'm there, others there are older and everybody is wasted I really liked. Well, maybe from the outside I looked like some idiot chav kid, but on the inside it gave me something. Really... I mean, I can't even say I have less fun on parties, no, that's not the case ... that has stayed somehow constant on average. But there's just this feeling that something is gone. And when I think about it, then yeah, it's the "n00b feeling", the feeling that all these things are new. I miss it, it was cool. I also didn't feel timid back then. Like, going up to people and ask them about whatever I wanted to know. I don't do that anymore, it has ceased. One reason for this is that I feel I have gotten older, that I have no right to behave like a noob anymore and another reason is that there actually is nothing I'd ask, because nowadays I already know what I wanna know. So it's not only timidness (that has gotten more too though), it's just the question why I should do it, I see no reason in it anymore... But I think that is it! The fact that it's nothing new to me anymore, that's why I feel "old". I believe on an industrial or dark ambient or noise festy I could get that feeling again, because I've never been to one. I really more and more think that my future lies in this direction, at least looking at it from the "getting a kick from something new" side that I have...
-
Yes, yes, that is also the same reason why I feel old! I was used to being one of the youngest ones. Now that I see others who are as young as I was before I get sentimental. And my youth also gave me some self-confidence and security earlier, because I was younger than others and still made it to this freak event ... kinda like that. It also was some kind of protection. Like I could allow talking something ununderstandable, look at people weird, just do what I feel like because I was young and a n00b and therefore could do it. This is missing now. And I don't like it. I'm sure this is a psychological issue. Has to do with self-confidence. I should fix it ... I don't think it will get better in the following years...
-
Yes, but that's how it is! Maybe now it finally is rewarding that I didn't start with this scene so early as many others here - I am USED to the fact that there's heaps, mountains, stepp mountains full of cooked, baked, fried stinking crap! And somewhere in these mountains you can find gemstones - but they are rare... I am used to this, I practically grew into this - as I got more and more into psychedelic music the scene saw more and more fullon and I heard the bitching everywhere. I grew into it! I'm resistant to it! That's nothing new for me! I bet my whole thinking about all this is different on all layers including the ones deep down because of that. That might be the reason why you and many others could probably be fed up with it before me. I grew into another psytrance scene than the people who've seen the "good old times" and who bitch now...
