indeed, it was a good decision to pick it
-
For me it would be (excluding oldschool goa albums, we've had enough of that here ... and besides that I hardly even own any ): S-Range - Space Etnoscope - Drums From The Dawn Of Time Son Kite - Colours Makyo - Shringara Carbon Based Lifeforms - Hydroponic Garden

Okay. I have made my decision. It was not that easy. I pre-listened to both. And well, the Goa-Head was better. That was because the second CD of Pulse 10 is fairly weak to me. On the first CD though Pulse 10 had some really good tacks ... the Corellian, the MWNN and the Doof one ... and the beginning and the end were quite good too. I liked the first CD of Pulse 10 very much! But on the second CD it all went down. Goa-Head 12 is better balanced - there are good tracks on both CDs. Listened to them and liked them. I especially like the fusion between oldscholish tunes and other psychedelic music styles. Although ... if nobody buys the Pulse one (which is what I believe, no psyheads except me go shopping in that used CD store) and time passes they will lower the price for it. If the price was low enough one day and if nobody got it before me then I'll maybe get that one as well By the way: The SUN Project tune is the only one that is present on BOTH compilations

Interesting. I have been becoming a vinyl person lately ... although I grew up with CDs and that. I also still love cassette tapes. Guess I'm an exception. It's mainly because vinyl I can get cheap at record fairs you know ... and I love that digging through huge boxes of crap music vinyls, all smelling of basement and reeking and then suddenly you draw out a masterpiece ... it's not psy, but still good music, stuff that is not released anymore ... sometimes you even find old Tangerine Dream and such stuff ... for a really good price. I guess I could sell the stuff easily for the double amount or even more at any time And it's not only the price. Vinyl indeed does have a soul. You can SEE the sound waves engraved on the record, you can feel it with your fingers, you see where are breaks and where there's much sound going on ... it's alive, that stuff ... you can hear the needle playing the melodies even when the speakers are off, just listen closely ... and the sound itself is richer, warmer, not synthetic, even if it eventually crackles a little bit sometimes, it's just cool stuff... I also dragged two friends along with me into the vinyl frenzy, so I am not alone with all that either and can share tips and stuff

More let-downs than good tracks? I wouldn't say so ... I have a few other Goa-Head compilations - also the vol. 13, which is said to be quite mediocre, but I find it quite good actually - and I haven't been disappointed by them. The cheap issue, yeah, that's bugging. They aren't expensive, just 10,50 Euros for each, I think I would not find them cheaper so easily anywhere ... but I really don't wanna take both, that goes more on my money than I want.
-
No, I actually don't own any stuff from Pulse 10 - not a single track. From Goa Head 12 I know some few pieces (as I said), but owning as release I also do none. So we have three people who say they would go for the Pulse and two for the Goa Head (although only one voted ). Including my initial intention it's three. Three and three. Damn...
-
Interesting. I always thought it was obvious to take the Goa-Head (because I like the series) and that there's no need for a poll actually... turns out I was wrong.

Accidental Occidentalism winning bid: US $280.00 Gothdamn, I could already make a few days trip to Budapest with that money!
-
Okay, I saw them both for the same price, but I only want to get one of them, not both (so please don't answer "I'd take both", 'kay?), since they aren't uber cheap either and if I took both it would go on my money quickly, since there are also other CDs I'd like. I know a few tracks of Goa Head 12 (Ra - Initiated, Dimension 5 - Limitless Dimension) and they are absolutely good, from that point of view I'd take the Goa-Head, since there is also the fact that I try to collect a few of them. But still, maybe the Pulse is better? They have been released in the same year (2001). The Discogs rating is kinda the same (3.5 for Pulse (2 votes) / 3.8 for Goa-Head (12 votes)). So I dunno. Please vote for the CD that you would take if you were in my situation! yes, yes, me too! Etnoscope's new album is one of the three most anticipated albums of mine this year
-
Depends. In general I rather dislike vocals (SUNG vocals, vocal samples are mostly very cool). But there are exceptions. For example the vocals in Banco De Gaia - Obsidian ... I love them ... in fact that song is nothing without vocals! And arabian vocals I generally like very much But in many cases vocals (sung vocals) are rather an element that reminds me of cheesy commercial stuff and that's not good.

I would not pay more than 50 Euro for a collectors item, no matter how rare it is. I don't want to support this price-hype, you know. You can find good and fairly rare items for pretty cheap sometimes ... that's the opportunities I look for
-
Raison D'Être would classify as dark ambient IMO. It's mystical, but still in a dark way (The Slow Ascent for example) ... and there are also some more melancholic pieces (Mesmerized In Sorrow for example). It's not as dark and sick and that as other artists in that genre, but still. Seconded what you said about Sephiroth! You did know that Ulf Söderberg is the same guy, did you?
-
"Current bid: US $132.50" What the ...? And still more than 2 days left! Dudes, you are crazy ... I would never pay so much for one CD, no matter how rare
-
"coldmeat.se" ... hehehe... Raison D' Être is dark ambient ... and for people who like that there's quite a lot to discover on Coldmeat ... ranging from some gothic-touched stuff over medieval soundscapes over sick asylum/cathacomb melodies up to pure noise. Cold stuff! Anyway, my favourite ambient artists are: Makyo Carbon Based Lifeforms Aes Dana Solar Fields Puff Dragon Banco De Gaia Tangerine Dream Klaus Schulze And Sephiroth / Ulf Söderberg for dark ambient!

Ask him what's his favourite incense and his favourite chillout artist I'd like to know that.

I voted for Digipak. It is true that it's actually a disadvantage that you can't replace Digipaks when they are broken or have scratches. And yes, they get scratched easily and are far more vulnerable. But that's cool in my eyes. It makes it special. It's not some shit burned CD you can throw into a corner and forget, it's a digipak and you must take good care of it. When you do this it will stay good for ages long. And it's far cooler to hold a very old CD in a digipak without any major scratches or whatever in your hands than to hold this same CD in a jewel case which was replaced just recently. Digipaks show how good you treat your babies. And every stain will be there forever. It's far more personal, the digipak stuff People who don't want it simply should store the CD in a jewel case with the booklet and leave the digipak itself in the shelf, this way nothing gets broken or damaged or whatever...

I got myself this album I like the sound. You all know I am not the fan of "too psychedelic" things, don't you? So I appreciate this one ... it's a nice and fresh and actually very clubby contribution to today's progressive scene And I find it especially funny how everybody says Last Jedi is bad ... during prelistening this one was the one that gave me the smile in my face - and not the first track! Seriously, I think Last Jedi is a damn good track! The first half lacks a bit, I agree, but the second half is absolutely cool, brings a grin to my face! I don't see the point why people don't like it, haha ... for me last Jedi is not worse than the rest of the tracks. All very good (And about the engrish vocals ... I can understand what he could mean with "broken Jedi" ... "broken" in german can also mean emotionally down.)

Hmmm ... so basically you mean Ticon made a poser live set par excellence? They behaved like if they were some kind of rock star or something? That's what I wouldn't like too. I mean, I also don't want an artist just doing his thing and being digged into his sound and stuff and just performing his live without looking at anybody on the dancefloor ... you know, I want a middle thing, I mean, I want to see some guys live so I also wanna see them "rock the dancefloor" in a way - you know, interacting a little with the people, but too much of it is even more crappy than nothing at all. I still would prefer an artist not looking up from his desk a single time to "poser live"... Although Ticon make so good music that I definitely would go to see them live despite this not so wonderful feedback. I just consider myself warned to expect a poser appearance

Nice to dream of the perfect festy My dream psy festy would be: Day 1: Scando Trance/Progressive 16-18: Atmos 18-20: Vibrasphere 20-22: Tegma 22-00: Son Kite 00-02: Ticon 02-04: S-Range 04-06: Matenda Day 2: Psy 16-18: Shiva Chandra 18-20: Magnetrixx & Morganixx 20-22: Asarualim 22-00: Feuerhake 00-02: Koxbox (old stuff please ) 02-04: Sun Project 04-06: Etnoscope Day 3: Chill 16-18: Chicane 18-20: Enigma 20-22: Solar Fields 22-00: Carbon Based Lifeforms 00-02: Entheogenic 02-04: Puff Dragon 04-06: Makyo ... I think more than 3 days I wouldn't emotionally get this mindfuck anyway.

Eskimo will come here too. And I won't check him out. That poser. I rather save my money for a good CD!

You know, Skazi tracks and the like have become some sort of "you better go home now"-signal to me. It's like fate would tell me with a gentle voice: "mh, better go pack your things and leave, you won't be going to miss anything here anymore". Seriously. This already happened to me a couple of times (four times this year already ... oh wait, I just have been to four parties this year yet!) and I instantly got the hint, washed down the rest of the water I had left in my bottle in one gulp, turned around with a smile, went for my jacket and waved goodbye. I have never regret it so far. Funny detail is, that I have never heard a Skazi track before the liveact I wanted to see yet. Never. Only some time afterwards some DJ spins some ... and then I'm going. It's just as if they would play it as a wink for me
-
I saw them live last week and they performed a lot of tracks from the new album ... and it sounded really, really good, in fact this was actually the best live set this year so far - and it won't be easy for other artists to top this I can't say what the sound really is like on a home stereo though. All that I know is that I listened to samples and what I heard did not knock my socks off compared to what I heard live unfortunately ... so hmmm, I dunno...
-
I second that! I also second Carbon Based Lifeforms ... they got a new album coming out approximately in September and probably have some interesting stuff to say Etnoscope could be quite nice too. They are working on a new album too if I am not mistaken... I'd also have nothing against an S-Range interview. But there are a couple ones out there (also about the new album), so I'd say focus on the stuff that more people want first
