I think Project Genesis has only sounded better to me over time.

Finally got around to watching Tekkonkinkreet tonight. Really beautiful movie.
-
Yea I think I now know what I am watching tonight.

My rent is $500 per month and food might cost around $200 per month. When you include other basic living expenses like transportation I need about $1000 per month. I have a job and I do not make $1000 per month even working full time.

Yea I was about to suggest Dragon Twins as well... https://soundcloud.com/djunasaurus

What is so great about Psytrance festivals?
johnb820 replied to Robbelaar's topic in General Psytrance
Well I went with a guy I knew in college who mostly ended up doing his own thing with people he already knew. He wasn't really interested in the music at all in the first place. The whole 4 day weekend was almost 95% darkpsy. There just weren't many people there and I did not know what to expect really. I was unprepared, got terrible sleep, did not eat well and ended up getting sick. -
This is kind of embarassing...

Maybe I was not on enough (any) drugs, but I did not enjoy my first and only festival experience. Everyone there seemed lost with no real purpose other than to get really high. Some were there to enjoy the music but for the most part it seemed silly. Then again, I am not a very social kind of guy. Might have something to do with the drugs part... -
Well if I had to add a bit of an explanation it is because, while AP is known for having an uplifting style I think Power Gen and Free Tibet are actually really dark. Free Tibet has this weird melodic progression with all those warped and chopped up vocals. The bassline is fast moving and there is just enough going on in the track to keep you interested. As for Power Gen the bass line is very similar to Mahadeva with just that one note off the kick, with the main dark melody bringing good energy. As to why these tracks are underrated I think it's just that AP released so much stuff that things get forgotten. Avi and Lior were very prolific at the time and the style of Trust in Trance 2 and The Astral Files came and went so quickly. When you compare that stuff to the earlier experiments under different aliases it's obvious they found a gold mine only having changed slightly over the course of Trust in Trance 3, Dancing Galaxy, and Another World. While those later albums are better I think it's easy to forget how good tracks like Power Gen and Free Tibet really are.

Oh wow I had never heard this track before! After doing my research I see this track was released on a compilation titled The Next Millenium released in 1999? Cool.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T036l7djU_A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFiRsrGCjnE No, they are not as busy and interesting as the tracks that came after them but they are at least as interesting as Mahadeva and Let There Be Light and Kabbalah.

Time to upgrade to digitally imported premium, it's quick to do and sounds fantastic, everything in amazing CD quality and completely commercial free.

Sometimes I could cry to this track and I wouldn't be sure if it would be tears of joy or sadness or both.

Since we are talking about Amen here I would like to say that I really really respect that album. Avi and Lior took their familiar formula and changed it up dramatically. Everything from the song structures, to the melodies, to the production took a huge shift. In this sense I do not think it is fair to compare it to their earlier albums. If Amen was the only album we ever heard from AP I think everyone would really love it. With that in mind, a couple of the tracks are not so good like Sticks & Stones and Anything Is Possible. As for tracks with repetitive melodies like Infinite Justice and Heaven's Gate I think many people kind of miss the point. The production is trancey, it's ethereal, the melodies shimmer and I think overall the album is effective at doing what AP is known for. They found a decent balance between their old sound and the newer full on sound which I have nothing but great respect for. Also Amen is light years ahead of MFG's failed adventure in full on in 2006.

I have been looking around for news on this event, hoping it is still going to happen but I am not sure. I already requested the weekend of June 20-22 off from work, hehe. Anyone know what's happening?

I do not really like Transdimensional very much, uninspiring songwriting and it gets old really fast, but Second Phaze is one of my favorite goa albums. Transaddendum is somewhere in between.

Crossing Mind would probably have to be it for me. It's not the ideas I dislike, it's entirely the production.

Fantastic tracks ruined by mastering/mixing.

Crossing Mind is a perfect example. I couldn't stand the way his album sounded to me at home or with headphones, but it probably sounds amazing at the festivals. -

Something I find amazing about Tim Schuldt's work with suntrip is how he is able to balance all the higher end stuff. It all sounds like this sonic hurricane, blending so effortlessly together to create this wall of harmonics. Sometimes I wish he would let the uniqueness of certain tracks speak for themselves, like he tries to force things that do not necessarily need done, but then of course in the end it's his job to get everything sounding even and he does an amazing job at that. It's so obvious when you hear a suntrip album because they all sound relatively the same. Not the ideas of course, just the final presentation due to Tim Shuldt. Like take MFG for instance. Every single one of their albums have a completely different production style, especially the last one. But you could theoretically force them to sound much more similar. Would we still get to hear the unique concepts they were trying to express with Project Genesis or The Message? I'm not so sure. It's probably more appropriate though to have everything from suntrip sound relatively the same because it makes it easier to DJ. It's probably more important to have a consistency throughout the label's catalog, to better define the direction of goa trance. -
What is the worst goa/psy album you've ever listened to?
johnb820 replied to Ormion's topic in General Psytrance
Why? Just why did I look this up on youtube? What happened to it? -
I completely agree with the last two comments. I listened to this album a few times when I first got it and enjoyed it for the most part but nothing really hooked me. I'll have to listen to it again but those were almost my exact thoughts. I am confident these guys have the talent to make some wicked tracks down the road.
