  1. Now that's the spirit! Supporting Balkan (incl. Croatia)
  2. I know 0 musical theory, yet im doing Goa since 2008... and my opinion that it is very much complex. Goa mostly have complex melodies and it is layered, so normaly you have 4-5 different melodic layers which should flow and dance together and it's not easy to make that. Forest is example very much complex too, but more technicaly... millions of modulations. Any substyle can be complex or not, depending on producer taste and wish, or where/what makes more money and whats easier. As much as complex Goa it can be, it can be simple. Same for prog, fullon, dark etc... Take techno for example... which is mostly minimal and not melodic... will take me 5-6 hours (tried and been very much bored) to make track complete with all mixing. In goa trance i spend 5-6 hours just for first approach to make kick/bass... it takes me 2-3 months for a track, sometimes even half year just because i like 'clean' sound. Trance as whole is complex any way you look
  3. Hello Psynewsers! I decided to open a topic for my gigs and update it regulary. I might play in your country and we might meet You can also check about gigs, releases and news on my offical Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/imba604 Let's start with summer tour!
  4. New record yeah... i wish he have new doctor
  5. Melodic? Celestial Intelligence is first to come on my mind...
  6. Trippy Future Garden! But i think it's bad produced, well tracks are from early 90s but a bit louder would be nice
  7. I know some of them sold their PCs, laptops, gears because they didnt have money for food... and then starting over after some time. Having job and making music is almost impossible, no time, no energy or focus. So if you really want to make music... you must choose music only in most cases. And it's not just produciton, then comes promotion, milion contacts and chats to get something released or get gigs which you depend on. And in most cases that's it, struggling and trying to survive from gig to gig, from release to release. Then after so much time spent you have to accept even minimum fee but at least you get something... and then family, friends, private things. In order to be succesful you have to work 6-8 hours daily on production. It's very hard even without job! People imagine artists living alone, having fancy places and studios, coke, girls and whiskeys around... actually they are more poor than 'normal people' (speaking of Goa producers) I am living this 'producers life' for couple of years now and you know what i achieved? Soundcard, laptop, midi and headphones (which i got as gift) since 2008 when i started. And there are loads of more people i know in this situation i wont mention... but they have huge respect from me! Only pleasure we have is happiness and feedback we get from people on gigs and online, but trust me it's worth it
  8. We all make mistakes and that is normal, we are humans. Accept it and lets move forward
  9. Because internet! You say something but people cant see/feel you while and normaly turns bad... and someone sometimes got offended. And thats not my intentions.
  10. I was speaking in global, not just in this case... whats happening over the years. And not just on this forum for sure. From beggining i supported every label, i released on almost every goa label these days, i gave my tracks just like that to support Goa scene and label. I don't stay behind one label, name or group. I am Suntrip, i am Neogoa, i am UAF, i am Timewarp, i am Goa Madness, i am Psynews... i am simply Goa. You are my friend same as Joske or Fabien, or Nova Fractal, or Alex and Julian behind Goa Madness. Only difference is that all of you have different visions and opinions, but you are all same to me as friends, collegues, passionate music lovers. And all of you know me as we spoke a lot over the years. No bad blood here. You have your opinion and you said just like i said mine. I just think some people missed point and Jos explained why, and i will say in short lines again: - Topic: SUNTRIP UPDATES - he posted update/promo material regarding suntrip and their people - video is about suntrip as he said, he pointed to balkan that he have many artists from there released album on his album - i think it's not fair that i was mentioned too as i didnt released album yet but soon... I also wish that he or anyone was asked to speak for whole hour and mention every artists but this was not case, nor the theme. Too many good artists here, not many chances to promote everyone sadly. And you know that i am to write loooong article about Balkan Goa scene where i will mention and link every single artist and dj, organizer etc... But perfect idea would be to make huge PDF like with psytrance and its styles, just with artists and dj bios. Now that would be perfect promo. But simply not in this topic. 'Hey Inada, that interview about Cronomi is pretty nice, but why didn't you mention Imba?' - never released there... got point now? I am sorry for the way i said what i said. I should go smoothly. Wrong theme, missed the point. Jos explained nicely, story didnt finished and that pissed me off. Maybe i should stop joining anything except simple promotion stuff.
  11. I don't see why promotional video about Goa Trance is such a problem? He explained why is it like it is... 1. He said what he WANTED - he has freedom to say whatever he want, and he didnt insulted anyone 2. He mentioned Suntrip artists because he presents Suntrip label there 3. Boom decided what they want to cut and what not, they wanted only 'Suntrip music' Instead of being happy because BIGGEST psychedelic trance festival decided to promote Goa trance (at least from one label) to the masses and support it you are bitching now. And you know why festivals dont want to work with us? Because we sucks! All we do is bullshiting when 'opposite' side do something instead of supporting or feedbacking. There is always bad mastering, no dynamics, NOT ORIGINAL sound, bad covers and IT IS NOT OLDSKUL. But yes, you are satisfied with half finished tracks and albums, with bullshit sound, but yeah it is UNIQUE, its DIFFERENT. When someone finaly reach some quaility sound he is being judged again, that he is too 'clean', too modern, not dark enough, not PLEADIANS enough. Instead feedbacking and advicing artist to help them provide QUAILITY. So artists are in strugle, should they go for good sound or try satisfy the couple of goa trancers. And thats why we will never see Ozora or Boom or some big festival and we will not have 'the bigger audience' because all we do is holding back Goa trance in 96 and not moving to 2016, 20 years later. And suddenly one of the biggest festival such as Boom found some quaility shit and decided to have it, record video and promote it and you are ANGRY? And thats why Goa trance is small, all we do is just dividing each other based on label or artist, hating everyone that is not 'old school'. No wonder why people from other scenes call us 'Goa Nazis'... Just dont cry after some big festival that it was good just no goa trance. Because we dont deserve it. We are never satisfied. No releases - goa is dead, more releases - all the same shit, nothing unique, nothing darker. No bookings - whyyyyy?, more bookings - ahh too modern, too much Filteria or Goasia, it doesnt work good on my LSD, too loud sounds and so on. One label manager asked to promote his label and artists and everyone loses their minds?! There is no fucking logic. Work as he did and deserve to be asked for same thing, then you say and promote your label or whatever you want. YOU HAVE RIGHT AND FREEDOM TO SAY WHAT YOU WANT. And now people will say but yeah he mentioned you, you are in his label. Yes i am but thats why im very harsh towards the Suntrip and critical more than to other labels and Anoebis and Mars can confirm that. Im pissing them off almost on daily base. Why is that? Because i want them to advance, to go forward. I should be angry now because he didnt mention my long dead label UAF Records and their artists? Fucking nonsense. This is why im not into goa scene for couple of years now. I havent heard 90% of releases since 2013, i dont follow it because all this makes me sick. Constantly being judged for your own freedom and wishes, tastes but when quaility and unity comes nobody cares. Im focused on production and thats it. Call me hater or whatever i dont care. I said what i had, end of story. But trust me, this is why 'goa trance is dead'. Accept or not, it's not my problem. Enjoy in supporting goa
  12. One of the best percussions for me, so much funkyness: Tribal Session as mentioned too. And this from his side project:
  13. Look on kick as element which have to be placed in stereo image and frequency range, each element should have it's 'place'. By switching to mono you put your kick in his stereo field - exactly on middle, being mono it will be exactly same always and everywhere, with stereo sometimes it could hit a bit left and sometimes bit right = losing power. Kick with bassline is MAIN structure of track, psy/goa is 'bass music' so there is accent on it. Question now is how you make kick more present and clean? If you do it like written in first post it will be already good enough, then you need to sidechain your bass with LFO tool normaly = everytime kick hits, basslines goes down = bassline wont 'eat' your kick. Then there come leads and fx... if you have groups like i already said, cut the bass frequencies (!!!) i do normaly do hipass/lowcut on 250Hz = there is no mud that can make leads or fx and there is no fight with kick and bass = no phasing issues. Also as said high frequencies... they can be annoying and very hard for ears, specialy on big soundsystems, after all trance music is for dancefloor (not for home and youtube only!), and if it doesnt sound well and pleasent to crowd on dancefloor then its pointless keep that in mind, music is made for parties. So i saying again cut your high freqs, not killing them totaly but lower them as much as needed. What can you do is to make different stereo spreading or not spreading to different types of elements in track. Normaly background/lower fx i put one way, melodies different. This way you make even more space for kick in stereo image (directly in middle) and sounds dancing and waving around it. This is one of the tricks too. Production is all about balance and placing right element on right position. Boosting bass freqs on kick for 15-20dB is pointless, or clicks if you already have a lot of high freq sounds there = you will make it even worse. Something need to be boosted, some to be cuted or lowered... but never go too drastic, couple of decibels here or there will help a lot. Smooth balancing! Just know that production is actualy 70% of time you are spending on track, ofcourse if you want to make it right. Maybe in 1 week you will finish your track, but know that it will take you 3-4 more weeks (sometimes even months) to mix it properly. Big help would be if you have gigs regulary, so you can 'test' it on big soundsysem, see/hear which parts are problematic, which parts or elements dont catch crowd, then go back and fix again and so on until everyone is happy. This is the way how most of artist do it, dancefloor/soundsystem will show you when is ready. And this way is how 'Sevilla In Trance' is done. First version/mix in september, last version april next year, countless gigs and mixing/fixing after each one. Good melody with bad sound = bad melody. Good fat kick with too loud click = bad kick, and so on. Patience and wish are all you need, and trust me result will make everyone happy. And that way you will leave your 'signature' - when people just after couple of seconds can say: Ok, this is Ruby Plexus sound! - you succeded, you are advancing

  19. Welcome to Balkan If you were into villages, probably every single one stared at you and thinking: WHO DAFAQ IS THIS STRANGER?
  20. Normaly i let my kicks go lower than bass, this way they are stronger and cleaner, bass wont make them muddy in low end. Even with sidechain, i like kicks go lower than bassline. I emphase the note of the kick, well the sub note, first note of the kick example if is D = 36.7Hz, if its A = 55Hz and so on. About clicks for the kick, yeah i use them and they are very important when all the sounds and melodies hit, without click kick gets muddy, no power, cant go trought = losing energy and people will fill it and they wont like it. I like to have 2 kick samples in one, one is normal kick anotther is click/attack, this way i can control it better. On click i cut everything bellow 3khz and let it go to the end at 20khz, sometimes even boost that very end. Now it might be harsh when there are no melodies, kick-bass parts and what you can do is to make automation to go lower, or just remove it. When melodies and sounds strikes you put it back. Such thing you can even notice in old tracks like Dimension 5 - Temple of Chaos, when melodies strike you can notice some click on kick have been added How to make click/attack cleaner? Simply find the frequency where it peaks with some analyzer EQ and boost that frequency. Now if you make group channels you will make side chain on melodies, fx, pads on that frequency so when kick hits it goes down. Put narrow Q and just 4-5 dB, it's enough. I also like clicks on bassline, it give drive. Well you need to make great preset and phase ofc. I highshelf bass from 2-3khz on. Then on lead/fx group i cut above 10khz with 6/12db envolope. Too much above 10hz with distorted acidic/psy/goa sounds can be annoying, this way you make headroom for attacks to come in and percussion become cleaner. Anything more you want to know?
  21. Hello artists! I have been asking and reading from some top names in psy/goa scene kick related questions. Combining their tips and some my experience, here are my 'tips' 1. Make sure your kick channel is switched to Mono. 2. Tune your kick to 'perfect fifth' of the key of track (perfect fifth is +7 semitones of the key)... this way kick wont match much notes in track and will stand out 3. Try to cut/soften 300-400Hz in your kick with EQ, that frequency range makes kick muddy and if you cut, you get extra headroom, so kick can go few decibels up 4. My kicks are 1/8, half of it or first 1/16 is maximized, second half with tail/fade out - so you will have subby low end. Kick will fade out just in time when the first note of the bass will fade in, nice and smooth sidechain 5. If your kick is in A note for example (A = 55Hz) boost that frequency for few decibels and make a low cut 5-10Hz under the note frequency. You will have nice shaped, fat and round low end. 6. Use the envelope to soften your attack, that annoying plastic and sharp sound in your kick that just doesnt fit nicely. Bazzism have pretty nice envelope. Cutting right place combining with EQ that muddy range around 300-400Hz won't be dominant any more. This way you should have nice smooth kick, which will stand out of the rest of track. Some of technics use Tristan himself... but ofcourse, use ears! Hopefuly this will help to some of you
