  1. Sometimes I make mixes of new stuff I find interesting...
  2. Is it even a real compilation? Discogs confirms at least half of the artist names as aliases of Kenneth Olsen. The rest have no biographic information, and they only appear on very few compilations, for example this one compiled by...Kenneth Olsen. I have my suspicions of what's going on here...
  3. The highest current rate for Amazon S3 transfers is $0.09 per GB. In other words, sending a 8 min track in CD quality wav will cost... $0.007, or 0.7 US cents. (OK, maybe tax on top of that.) And that's the highest rate if you're a small player, which Beatport isn't. When it comes to "handling", how about just not handling your source wav at all and simply putting it online? So difficult that it still costs 1e for every single file? Anyway, back on topic...
  4. Nothing wrong with a poll. For quick help, you could try Basilisk's Essential Selections and Global Goa Party 2.
  5. Well, movement to a night hex is typically slower.
  6. Thanks for the ideas. I'll update my shopping list as I go through everything. Random comments: Banco De Gaia - Yeah, it was an instant classic in the 90s. I only had a crappy mp3 copy back then as there was no money nor distribution in the middle of nowhere. Well, ordered it now. Better late than never... Already got Maya 3CD last year. This will complement it nicely. Proxeeus - That one is refreshingly oldschool. No frills or gimmicks, just good old rave party sound. Eat Static - I have mixed feelings about it. I guess it has something for everyone. For me, probably less than one CDful of stuff I'd like to hear again. I'll think about it. Master Margherita - There surely was a lot of techno (or whatever they call it) on this one, compared to his previous albums. (Is everyone doing 2CDs now?) Ultimae vinyls - I'm slightly unsure about the combination of ambient and vinyl, even though I like them both separately. Maybe, just because it's a nice move from them. Ott - He's nowadays a victim of his own success, that is, setting the bar so high. I don't remember much about the samples right now, because they sounded "nice but not wow-nice" (on the Ott scale, of course, which still means very good on the general scale). Suns of Arqa - At some point I thought that they've been releasing the same album over and over again for 30 years. Nevertheless, I've grabbed a few iterations anyway as it's not a bad album... This sounds alright. Will listen more carefully later. (As a side note, there's a new compilation from LSD, which appears to have potential too.) Well, I'll keep browsing. There's you-know-what coming from Suntrip and DAT, some good downtempo releases (Dubmission, Disco Gecko etc.), loads of free stuff and whatnot. Still plenty of catching up to do. Please keep posting if you find or remember anything interesting. All appreciated.
  7. I'd say...It Was Not Human (completely unreleased) and Solar Origins (the origin of Solar Nomads on The Eternal Frequency?)
  8. Drinking good beer and trying to distance myself from everything work-related for a moment. Today I got some urgent requests for assistance in matters with no time whatsoever allocated to them, consequently taking until 8 PM to sort out. The bloke better be happy with the output... Maybe listen to a few samples in the silence of night and plan/place an order or two?
  9. It was a true outro in the context of the MR EP but maybe not necessarily for the pacing of this release...
  10. Looks like the last quarter just started. I've tried to check a few channels every now and then but not all of them. Any new tips?
  11. Well, it has been sold for >700e on Discogs so you could make at least 100e profit by re-selling it there... (Then again, that's never strictly guaranteed.) I simply bought the 2010 version brand new from the label for 25e or something, which is definitely good enough for me.
  12. Doppler shift refers to the perceived change in frequency due to moving sources, which is a different effect altogether and audible even in mono recordings. For the actual delay effect relevant for stereo modelling, you should search for interaural time difference (ITD). At low frequencies, the head's acoustic shadow isn't strong enough to attenuate the signal arriving to the contralateral ear, thus the interaural level difference (ILD) isn't very reliable. Conversely, the time difference produces an unambiguous phase difference, which can be easily perceived and dominates the observation. From approximately 1500 Hz upward, the wavelength is less than 20 cm (~head width), thus the phase difference becomes ambiguous. However, the acoustic shadow produces strong ILD so the latter becomes more important for stereo perception. You can still hear the time difference between sharp impulses at high frequencies, but not really for tones. For complete 3D localisation cues, look for HRIR and HRTF (head-related impulse response and transfer function). They've been documented pretty well. However, a part of the response is individual, thus generic rendering from 3D to stereo channels cannot be completely accurate. And the deal with channel inversion is that each frequency will have a half-wavelength shift, which corresponds to a different time delay for every single frequency. Therefore the brain cannot locate it at all because none of the overtones/harmonics will correlate with each other. Levels will be equal so no hints for localisation from that either. It's neat, but largely avoided in all audio production as mono or narrow stereo playback will fail due to cancellation. Realistic ITD (from, say, actual stereo recordings with or without a mannequin head) is acceptable but still risky. Off-phase channels can screw up vinyl cutting etc. so it's generally safer to use ILD coding only.
  13. That way I can still follow my principle of not buying digital releases, obviously.
  14. Me neither... Is it possible to donate money and then download it for free?
  15. If I could lucid dream reliably, that scene probably wouldn't be my first choice.
  16. There are... For reference/reminders/inspiration: https://www.psynews.org/forums/topic/7398-remixes-better-than-originals/ https://www.psynews.org/forums/topic/55156-remixes-matter-of-taste/ https://www.psynews.org/forums/topic/69358-some-remixes-better-than-the-original/
  17. Just out of interest, if this is still constructive, what would count as "bashing" on your scale?
