  1. SCI Forest - Fetish Box (6 dimension soundz ) All tracks written by Sci Forest (Tsuyoshy Tateno), mastering by Pentty Slayer (Texas Faggott), production by Shakaru. Sintar Calamiah begins with an hypnotic techno influenced tune, very strange atmosphere, like a vision disorder with buzzy images. At 2'25 there's a good swift funny break, your pupil rework again and all get back to normal. Then you're in a weird country environment, all is disformed but this time your eyes aren't responsible, it's mother earth or maybe OGM. It's strange you don't recognize anything, you probably cross an hidden door to the future. Progressing in this unknown area ( from 4'30 ) you get more & more certain that you're approaching a civilized town. That's the case from 5'49. Did you miss the urban traffic jam's klaxons symphony ? Anyway that's the first noise that welcomes you in your living town but in … 3005. Baka Inu 9 is more tribe through his bass/rhythmic, indeed here the rhythmic evolves between broken beat & hardtek. There's so many different parts that it results a bit difficult to keep his attention all over the track. With so variety here, the final cut appears to me badly raw. Super Secret Dog Club is more bouncy with soft industrial tones. You're submerged under a torrent of funny skipping sounds. Is this Super Secret Dog Club the place to an alien dogs jumping/dancing world championship ? Hum, i'm afraid that the answer is yes & probably Zebulon is a master coach. Frayed has an undeniable butcher feeling due to the rhythmic, claps are resonating like a chopper (from 4'50). At 2'50 little moaning can be heard, that may emanates from a sheep. Suddenly the atmosphere becomes happy go lucky with a total change in tones from 5'50, i'm nearly sure the sheep succeeded to escape from the butcher's. before getting killed. As a result next time when you'll place an order for a döner kebab, don't be surprised if you are being told that they're running out of stock. Aphro Black is a pure crazy funkadelic coupled with a smashing proggy rhythm filled with tons of singer samples from which i'm totally unable to tell where they come from. Bolgo likes Oil Sardine, or the story of a huge yellow hairy monster that isn't very naughty except when he doesn't receive his weekly Oil Sardine ration from commerces. He is easily recognizable from far just by hearing his slow loud & clumsy walk starting at 0'40. Bolgo also has the particularity when he's hungry, to put out of order all but only commerces data processing & electronic system just by walking in a perimeter of 500 meters of their location. Generally when it occurs, you can listen to a twisted chime, the longer it sounds the more systems he has desactivated & most of time it goes raising (0'50, 3'55, 5'32, 6'31). Bolgo is talkative (2'58) even he doesn't frequently get understood but Bolgo doesn't care really at a single exception : when he gets his oil sardine ration, he's able to say 'I like…I like' (7'20). Implement Matter sounds more industrial at first i need to specify coz all tracks from Sci Forest have the same specificity to start one way & to multi evolve to several styles, don't expect once again a linear build up. This time, the tune ends up in a close Texas Faggott style. Metaphysical Sarumawashi possess several twisted leads. At 5'45 if you don't still get insane, Sci Forest starts to hit pans for his rhythmic. The end is funny with a woman voice sample basis, you're listening to something close to an air plane just before his landing at the airport, flying over your home at low altitude. An album for those who are open eardrumed & don't bare any more linear full on, 8 true tunes of psychedelic trance music with concrete techno influences & much more electronic influences inside, let's dive in !
  2. Digital Talk - New Age Surf (2004/ Acidance) 1. Abyss 2. Akara 3. La Bicicleta 4. Fix The Fx 5. Race Trouble 6. New Age Surf 7. Scruffy Connection 8. Mind Hunters 9. Party People Digital Talk (Luc Achintre & Julien Fougea) delivers finally their début album. As it can be expected from these French guys New Age Surf focuses on dark psytrance with a special care put on rhythmic & samples – sounds background . Abyss put you directly without premises into their dark & mental production, a particularly powerful track with a short melancholic lead at 4'30 (coming back later on) reminding me Cosma's work on Nonstop embellished with lots of bleeps. Akara is dryer with several nice & weird sounds in the background conferring a scheming atmosphere , a mental stuff less easy to dig on, the kind of sound which can grow on you little by little after several listens. La Bicicleta sounds quickly more dancefloor unfortunately it lacks a little bit of something to result better (madness probably). Fix the fx is more kickin & the bass is rumbling (in a Absolum style). The track blots a bit after the 6'35 but not enough to my taste, too diesel indeed. Race Trouble has some sheeps bleating samples, there was probably something more psychedelic to do, mixing sheeps & race trouble concept, but they didn't achieve it nevertheless the start idea was good. New Age Surf is more energic & catchy, something stronger from the start that suits me more. Scruffy Connection is among the 2 most psychedelic & crazy track of the album , i immediately enjoy the apocalyptic & panic feeling (especially after 4'00). It seems like if you were taken in a big cataclysm & you're one of the rare survivors running away. Mind Hunters encloses several good surprising changing bassline tones giving lots of depth to this production in an ever rising climax trend. When i heard Party People, i check twice the track title as it's so far from what you can guess with such a title. Indeed it's a pure downtempo exercise with their psydark touch, slow motion musical action coupled with contemplative soundscapes. By order Highlights :7,8 Good :6,1,9,2 Nice :3,4 Mark :8,/10 (worth buying it for those who are into the dark side of psychedelic trance power )
  3. V/A Mental Case (Beats & Pieces 2004) Mental Case starts softly with a morning clash between the Scandinavian kings Vibrasphere & melancholic Israeli prince Cosma on Purple Floating remix, such big names on the paper won't disappoint anybody. When Blt & Psycraft get remixed by each other, the result is interesting (remember of Floor remix by BLT), if i was label manager i would make them work more frequently together & i would sign them for a common album. Onyx brings a bit of psychotic pressure, Red Meat has a special soundscape that will fit to the ones who have enjoyed PTX - POS 51 i think. Electro Sphere delivers a strange track, i don't like it, for me he just fucked up this one. Rinkadink, arg, oups, things become serious here, short but intense , strong chocolate tasty ; the guy know how to turn one's head. Except the normal Shaffel trademarks, Exaile have embellish their tune with several cartoonish sound effects samples which contrast with the furious electric guitar riffs & the global dry, dull ambience. Evil Drug Lords have decided to catch you another time with their hypnotizing & melodic night fullonish skills & they 've succeeded one more time. No pity for your few healthy neurons left, Nes & Mr Peculiar will take a special malicious care of them, it could be strongly possible that neurons suddenly become endangered species in your brain after listening to Graffiti. If you have escaped this mentally showcase up to now, you have deserved some more peaceful tune delivered by Zen Mechanics but be aware there's still some tricks in it that could reveal lethal, even for me this track is one level below the 4 previous ones. When you buy Mental Case, think also about strait jacket's preventive purchase before taking a rendez-vous with Pr psychiatrist Lokovkin. Major Mental Devastation tracks by order: 8,7,5,1,6,3,2 8,5/10
  4. Sesto Sento - The Bright Side (Com.pact / 2003) The Bright Side was mastered by Lior Perlmutter (Astral Projection) as it can let foresee, the content is more Full on than The Inner Light with higher bpm (mainly 143-145 instead of 138-141). The groovy side of Sesto's dudes doesn't disappear completely here, nevertheless it's less present or maybe more complicated to catch due to the uptempo except especially on (4) with an ultra-speed psychogroove & turbo-jet crazy dancefloor filler , also on (2) with special hard hackin' fx & on (9). Some others comments about the build up, i got the impress that fx-sounds are more employed than never before by the Sesto team all along except on (7), which also means for me a focus on melody driving you by time into an emotional dimension (3,6 & deeper in 7 : the chill one) ; indeed the tunes have improved in density & amplitude. Always the same strong effort put on harmonies that i appreciate very much, with sometimes a musical theme which seems to get out from a musical box (2,3,6,7&8). Only (5&9) appear to my ears, dryer (due to the 303 TB in 5). (10) is very purring & bouncing, i think it can't be possible else way : a cat was surely present in the Sesto's studio when cooking this one. Concerning (11), it's something about trancey BigDrum'nBassBeat (chunky kick like in BigBeat used in a Drum N' Bass structure), entertaining. Favourites by order: 4,6,3,8,7 Then :10,2,11,5,9 mark : 8,5/10
  5. Air Gate is compiled by Dj Bog (Visual Paradox) & master by Domestic. Native Radio - Neuromancer (Visual Paradox remix) welcome you through Air Gate a peaceful intro & soft woman speaking in the background, good subtle morning tone & harmonies. It's like a blue sky with nice stratus clouds at dawn when you can still encounter dew on flowers ; the day begins to start , life is awakening but mostly still sleeping. Noise from Ultravoice is a warmer tune, there's some sharpy sounds around & globally results groovier than previous one but remains still soft production. Silence – Inside My Head, got a very far intro sounding but pretty nice, then the rhythmic appears & is louder than in the 2 first trax, nevertheless could let an empty impress due to his hypnotic groovy style. Brain Rush (Ferbi Boys remix) introduce you in a gloomy atmosphere unlike what the trackname let suppose the tune isn't very fast. The track puts you in a situation like if you were caught prisoner in Pennsylvania inside Dracula's den, all way out are locked, you're trying to escape before dusk & that this dear Dracula wakes up & drink your blood. Stereo Flip delivered by Pixel, has a weird intro with very short acoustic guitar riffs, harmonies are dark. Around 3:00, some unexpected industrial tones arrive coupled just for a moment with a sudden dubby style which all comes back around 5:00. The track finishes like he started with these short acoustic guitar riffs, a very special weird music. Sabastel Tunnels (Lish remix) despite his morning harmonies, is radically faster and sounds a bit more full on than all the other stuffs on Air Gate. By moment the feeling reminds me a bit of an old European trance anthem from Vapour Space : Gravitational Arch Of 10, same qualities on both tracks subtle dark & deep morning production with cool weird fx on melody, very catchy one. Silent Sphere has put a big throbbing bass in Confuse, there are some frequent sounds that goes higher & higher. At 4:00 unexpected Gothic men chants samples appear for the break, & confer some mystical embellishment to the track. Next is a typical Spectrum production, from which i'm not a fan therefore Fire Ball is a bit more changing & so less cheesy in his sounds than all the Spectrum i have heard, the effort is appreciable but still remains average. Star X ends up Air Gate with an dreamy, cosmic, melodic & morning tune, the tones are here warmer than all of the other tunes, nice echoes & delayed floating synth melody, very relaxing even if Ocean View can reveal itself dancefloor by moments. Favourites : 1,4,5,6,7,9 Mark : 8/10
  6. Exaile - In Panic (Shaffel) 2003 Tracklist: 1. Intro 2. Suzzy surprise 3. Tunnel 4. Connection 5. The mad midget 6. Tied up rmx 7. Miss Justin 8. X Ailes 9. Give a head 10. Hourse out After a short nicey intro, you need to wait during the next 2 tracks, as Suzzy Surprise & Tunnel has really nothing special to offer apart empty space and boredom ,before having some tasty Exaile stuffs between your ears. Connection, from far the sweetest tracks from the album with some fluffy synths which comes at around 3 minutes and also on the end. At 5:30, some very soft electric riffs are added. It's probably the more subtle stuff from this album, a kinda morning with dull sound indeed. The Mad Midget has a groovy bassline with a usual up & down Exaile sound and some tones hammered in the background then comes the break and arrives the typical exaile's sound gimmick : on the same time power full & deaf , concerning the melodic sound which follows this it's quite metallic & boisterous. Here comes the most pumping section of the album with the next 3 tunes. First, Tied Up (remix) very few things to say about it except that's the typical effective Shaffel's sound so closer to Skazi's production especially after the break sample « ladies & gentleman, we're experiencing technical difficults, please stand by ». Since the beginning, Miss Justin catches you with darker sounds and let guess rougher tones & a madness adrenalistic explosion in his build up. All that things expected, happened just after the fucking break with the warning alike gimmick which goes on after & the amazing sample «hey Miss Justin, shake your ass, baby, shake your ass » which completely drives you crazy. Terrible bad news, with his joke on word-title Exaile with X-Ailes, the band didn't win the « Laughing Academy ». Hopefully, the musical content of X-Ailes is largely bettering the same style as Tied Up, but better with distorted electric guitar riffs and the recurrent, haunting woman sample « dream on » . The 2 last tracks are definitively the darkest & roughest of the album. Give A Head is extreme, draws nearer to kinda mix of hardcore & industrial music composed of sharp metallic squeaking sounds and a bassline which is not far to rumble, to throb, but all in all this one keeps mostly dark full on oriented and don't go minimal at any time for my mind. Behind Give A Head, Ten Hours Out seems softer at first. But a groovy still dark & loud bassline remain, and also a slapping rhythmic, indeed reminds a bit of KURO – Precision but with highly sharpen tones added. Best moments :4,7,8 Nice stuffs :5,6,9 In my opinion, it just lacks more tracks like The Mad Midget instead of tracks 2,3 &10 to this album in order to be a good one. So as a result i rank it as a nice one. Mark :7,5/10
  7. V/A Mammon "The Dark Star" (Shiva Space Technology - 2002) Tracklist: 1) Cosmo Chaos vs Lemurians – The Link (Cosmo Chaos remix) 138 BPM 2) Exaile – The Low 140 bpm 3) Respector – Makes you wanna people 142 bpm 4) Skazi – Porogram 143 bpm 5) Sesto Sento – The Year 83 144 bpm 6) Neuromotor – Erotic Fantasy 146 bpm 7) Lemurians meets Guitarminator – Metal Drops 143 bpm 8) Analog Mohicans – Odin 144 bpm 9) Cosmo chaos – Tearing Stellar 140 bpm 10) Psyside – Black Moon 146 bpm As let guess the title of this compilation, this one is a dark full on style dedicated for night peaktime dancefloors. I like very much the 2 Cosmo Chaos tracks which are quite bouncing, punchy with some melodies, i got a little preference for the one done with Lemurians. The Exaile's stuff has a nice worked dark atmosphere a bit less kickin', so results more subtle to my ears. Next one from Respector doesn't sound at all dark psytrance for me. I mean you've got here typical fat kick & rumbled bass from Hardcore-tribe, don't like this one. Then comes a good groovy bassline that's what i retain of this track coz. the distorted electric guitar riffs on the second part of the track don't bring the usual adrenalistic Skazi's touch. I discovered Sesto Sento with their first track Soap Bubbles and so was expecting something great from them. The problem here, is that The Year 83 is average , honest but nothing special. I think that dark full on doesn't fit to their predilection style. 'Are you a cat' what a strange gimmick sample which appears followed by some cat's vicious mewing in Erotic Fantasy. I wonder if Alf isn't in reality Neuromotor … Nevermind, the track is very good, energic, melodic and got some a nice percussive break on the second part of the track. After it's metal dark psytrance time with Lemurians vs Guitarminator for Metal Drops. Indeed, the appreciation of this track depends on if you're keen or not onto rock Metal riffs. For me the rock-metal side isn't too extrem and can be easily listenable even if i normally never listen to metal. Analog Mohicans (Jörg+Andy/Lemurians) «Odin » ( north German god of war and knowledge) got a gimmick of a kinda foghorn plus vickings shouting samples, results for consequence a pretty nice atmosphere. French band Psyside finish at speed, on a jerky riffs production, not very subtle but effective without any doubt on all dancefloors. highlights :1,6,9 other good moments :2,4,8.10 Mark :8/10
  8. V/A Final Fantasy (Com.pact) 1. Indica – Sound Textures 142 bpm 2. Sesto Sento vs Lish – Tuna 140 3. Ultravoice – Children Of Earth 145 4. Bizzare Contact – Easy Bizzy 145 5. Visual Paradox vs Elik – Blue Screen 142 6. Apocalypse – Fucking Noise 143 7. Uriel – Appear Offline 142 8. Aquatica – Emotion 145 9. Sesto Sento vs Paradigma – Heads Off 138 10. Vibrasphere – Elephant (Lish remix) 137 Compiled By Dj Bog, Mastering :Bog + Uriel Indica (Victor Elcurdia,Luca Szokely aka dj Valik & Dj Geza) gives an average work, my man reproach is that there's no soul at all for me in this track, so flat ! Here's a winning combination between Sesto Sento & Lish, Tuna (or Tanua ?) has a fat pumping start up after a short sample break around 3'00 the track gets one step pumper beyond but a nervous melody at last appears coupled with hammered rhythmic, as a result the production lighten. One regret, the track lasts only 5'50. With Children Of Earth, Ultravoice goes on in his new style caught sight with Dr Trance, it means groovier style with a work puts on an amplitude contrast during a long progressive rising, if you had like Dr trance this one is for you too. Easy Bizzy goes direct to kickin direction. Unfortunately the melody coming at 2'00 is so cheesy that the whole thing gets quickly inaudible, youthful indiscretions, for having a good impress on Bizzare Contact largely prefer checking their album. Blue Screen got a beautiful morning intro , indeed it's just the premise of a (especially around 3'00)funky- (mainly)morning jewel which makes you as light as air , even despite of the presence of some electric riffs on the end. Fucking Noise got also a nice floating intro then the original funkadelic style from Apocalypse makes his entrance, a bit less boisterous than Master Peace (their first opus) but more groovy and still very danceable effective , a good confirmation. Appear Offline is something more klonk, so i'm think fewer people will dig on it even if it's my kind of thing. Emotion from Aquatica (Elad Asi + Shauli) is very clubby sounding (Yahel like) and that's the main worry here for me, very border line indeed. Hopefully, Paradigma (Tony Levi + Rafi M) associated with the Sesto team provides something better with an excellent trumpet which got cold lead on the second part coupled with some background muffled oniric atmospheres. I never heard the original but do like this Lish remix of Elephant , so probably it helps a lot to work on some Vibrasphere stuffs nevertheless i'm truly convinced in his morning potential since Slow Me Away, so for me you mustn't miss it. Highlights :5,9,10 Other favourites :2,3,6,7 The main default of Final Fantasy resides in its inconstant quality selection, but the hilights keeps worth buying it. Mark :7,5/10
  9. v/a Phunk Core (Doof records) 2007 1. Tikva PANTOMIMAN (George Agaronov from Russia with Serj Jiro) The melody reminds me vaguely something or at least that's what i think. What is sure for me, is the fun melodic aspect which overtakes on the sober-simple production of the tune. Actually i'm nevertheless convinced that most of people won't follow my view & will just consider Tikvla as a too minimal-cheap production with not enough effects, tricks, energy and so on... 2. The Human Brain ORCA (Alon Lifer from Israel) After some thoughts, i arrive to the conclusion that this tune has a clear evident South African touch. I mean the name 'Twisted System' came to my brain but with their first album period (their best for me) while listening 'The Human Brain'. Orca doesn't still fully express his own artistic approach here, probably next try he will succeed. 3. Fucking Confuse ILLEGAL MACHINES (Fabien Mournetas & Yan Migaud from France) The construction is based on an interesting progressive intensity despite this, the tones don't appear very fresh to me; so all & in all i'm shared. Ok, here at least, you've got a decent energetic dancefloor stuff contrarily to Pantomiman's tune for those who are digging & searching this style. 4. Vegetal Twist PSYKODROIDS (Fabien Mournetas, Yan Migaud, Wilfried Decaesteker, Stefan Holweck & David Engling from France) Still energized 'Vegetal Twist' is more linear getting hypnotizing indeed & paradoxally it's sounding richer too through the bank tones employed. Before the tune bolts & goes bewitching you, there's a constrating groovy break at midpart which should awake all perceptions! 5. Brave B55 (Keisuke Fujiwara & Takashi Sekiya from Japan) Here we got some psytek production, quite mental techno at first evolving more toward the psychedelic area later on. I'm normally interested in Japanese Trance productions but this time i'm disappointed, too annoying for me. 6. One More ENTROPY (Omer 2 & Pitt from Israel) Never been fan of Entropy's sound, it doesn't unfortunately change with 'One More'. 7. Succubus REV AND B55 (Troy Leidich + Keisuke Fujiwara & Takashi Sekiya) It represents exactly all what i dislike in psychedelic trance: a raw, harsh sound with a cold feeling, but i know some are fond of this, may be you... 8. Trip Trap PANTOMIMAN (George Agaronov) I'm happy coz i find again this delirious weird Russian style entersee along the first Pantomiman's track, furthermore the production is more powerful this time. So I have absolutely no reproach about Trip Trap. 9. Lord Of CACTUS (Avi Sakorka from Israel) Have you noticed this v/a is named 'Phunk core', & i hardly talked once about groove not to mention Funk upto now... Ok , so let's fix this now: yes 'Lord Of'' has something of groovy, Funky inside that's a fact! But strangely despite of this, i don't get hooked, it's due to the coldness once again without speaking of the strange ruined end. 10. Misu Soup ILLEGAL MACHINES Flat, monotonous at first, i have heard plenty of tunes like this, personally i don't understand it. Actually there's a sort of very slow progression which reminds me Absolum's work with a rising energy which reaches his climax on the end; generally these kind of track are quite long. Let's just say here, the student hasn't overpassed the master & it's better to check the original to the copy. I'm globally NOT convinced by this V/A, exception for Pantomiman's atypic productions.
  10. v/a Soul Anatomy (Doof rec) Soul Anatomy (Dooflex / 2007) is compiled by Nitro & U-Reckon. Mastering & masterdisc studios Israel Art by Ayelet Ish Tracklisting: 1. Eternity U-RECKEN VS NITRO (Yaniv Ben Ari & Gil Dagan) after a cheesy intro, deliver some interesting floating leads during the track. So, sometimes Eternity has magical moments & otherwise some flat annoying typical Full On periods. I got a shared opinion on this one. 2. Bleep QUANTUM (Gidi Snapir) might have decided to hit the French market thanks to some French samples in the intro of Bleep. Indeed apart the previous mentioned point, Bleep consists in 2 components for its structure. First one, is his personal style, quite pumping melancholic Night Full On ; a trademark which doesn't seem to have evolved a lot since the productions of his debut album. Second one, is a catchy melodic loop which is not usual from Quantum. It's especially noticeable as it nicely contrasts with the rest by its sprightly aspect. Nevertheless i have a regret on the harmony of the tune, the juxtaposition between both elements doesn't match fully, little matter of time stretching & tempo according to me. 3. Her Sister (NitroDrop rmx) MAHAMUDRA (Sagiv Ben Giat, Ran Malka, Eyal Cohen) has a metallic Full on-groovy specific sound, you'll recognize it easily here. The tune benefits from the participation of Niv Hadar at the guitars, which impacts positively on the production, a decent tune. 4. Esta La Parakara NITRODROP (Gil Dagan & Dima I-Drop) is not my cup of tea at all, too cheesy. I better undestand why & where comes from my shared opinion on the first track now . 5. The Island I got a good memory of U-RECKEN (Yaniv Ben Ari) through one of his first track released on Doof "Ghost Ship". But actually i didn't got too much the ocassion of listening to his sound from then. I must admit, i recover partly some same qualities with 'The Island' such as an effort of using other bank tones which don't let the impress of always listening the 5-6 standard Full On sounds. Then after, the intrinsic quality of the song is ok but no more. 6. Criminality MIND COMPLEX (Gleb Gold) isn't, what we could call, a prolific artists (it seems he only produces 2 tunes the last 2 years). Never mind, coz the guy has manage to create a real tasty gem. The kinda of stuff you just need to listen once, to immediately realize the hit potential. Some adrenalistic reactions should, at least, occur with the bassline's change from 5'30 to 5'58 , if nothing emotionally special happened to you before . 7. Old School There must be a major difference between European & Israeli about the meaning of Old School, as QUANTIZE (Reshef Harari & Adi Ashkenazi) deliver with this tune nothing else than usual Full On production, so don't waste your time if you're expecting neo-goa by here. Actually, the tune tends to be groovy, bouncy with a hint of robotic influence. Unfortunately it doesn't make it on me, too much predictable... 8. Betone (V. 2005) LOUD (Kobi Toledano & Eitan Reiter) build a climate, but the path sounds tortuous like if they had different small ideas & tried to assemblate them all through one tune. So the mixture's alchemy is hard to obtain by moment. 9. Weirdo Beirdo FLYBY (Assaf Artzi & Zeevic Gilad) makes apparently his debut in the psytrance scene with this tune. The atmosphere is at the same time twisted, hypnotic & dreamy with the whistling parts. It confers a genuine, bit of experimental production with weird feeling all along like penetrating into the twilight zone. It's my favourite track out of the compilation, very mental for me. climax:9 preferences:2,3,6 mark:6/10
  11. If we count all the album released by Denis Matenda under his projects Matenda & Chilling Matenda, Natural Development is his fifth album. This new opus keeps going with the summer sunny sounds & cloudy, floating harmonies which were the trademarks of previous album Mediteran. Nevertheless inside Natural Development, the production doesn't only focus on dowmtempo lounge sounds, actually Matenda has built a cross over album which gathers his two musical sides : Morning progressive & Chill/Down-Tempo. There's another specificity with this new album, Matenda took also the opportunity to bring us a new facet of his musical personality with the extension to new musical influences such as Club-House (through Sounds Around), Dream music (considering Orphan as a wink to Robert Miles), Tribal (Equilibrium), Electro or Club ( both in Electronegative). Equilibrium is another track which is noticeable; effectively, it brings more rhythmical energy. So, in a way it could be the tune's structure that reminds the most the ambience from the "Chilling Matenda" album. Plain Vanilla has drew my attention thanks to its 'overwhelming rain' melody style, there's something fascinating here. It's like after a long period of heatwave, when the storm , at least, occurs; you enjoy so much listening to water drops smashing on the ground. With Plain Vanilla, it's the same : it's raining but you were expecting it & are happy with it. Within Perspectives, you're immersed into a marathoner's groove, the feeling which outcomes is special like a meticulous & unlimited escape straight forward. Like i explain previously, it's not an act made in a hurry, it seems the regularity of this escape is the key for not being located & caught. Let's say Perspectives is the escape of your life... Invisible Garbage ranges through its rhythmic made of claps, in the clubby tracks influenced on the cd. More exactly, i should talk about Club-Housey orientation. Nevertheless i prefer Sounds Around in this category, due to the heavy funky bassline integration mixed with nevrotic, robotic bleeps or synths. Indeed, this one is musically much more complex incorporating also a disco-electro touch. Epsilon drives into the lounge Balearic area , with the acoustic guitar & piano melodies which seems to be in a game where they must answer each other. The tune gets very floating for the break , & then let's reveal the unexpected more dancefloor side of the tune with a jazzy feeling via the piano's theme . While listening to some tunes from this album (Speculator, Natural Developement for example), not to say all , you'll be gained by the strange impress of being lost : i mean a deep production sweat as silk & groovy catchy as a whirlwind. Matenda has succeeded here, in breaking the dividing wall for establishing his sounsdacpe in a new territory, surfing on the border-lines of Morning Progressive & Sunny Down-Tempo. climaxes:2,9 Favorites:1,3,4,7,8 Recommended
  12. Life Extension - Side Effects (Avigmatic) 2007 Tracklist: 1.Shiva 8"12 2.Breaking The Cage 7"25 3.Elektronik 7"32 4.Same Way 7"56 5.Hurricane 7"38 6.Unknown remix 8"27 7.Spiritual Communion 8"39 8.Connexion 8"07 9.Something Like That 9"17 All Tracks by Dj Stenman & Dj Olive Except: Track 6 original by Talamasca vs Life Extension/Life Extension rmx Track 8 feat Dj Toltek Mastering by Johannes Reigner @Silicon Sound Studio Artwork by Nico@PsyArtStudio Life Extension is composed of 2 French dj's : Olive & Stenman (Olivier Mirat & Laurent Lhullier), who are well known in France for their ancient involvement in the psytrance scene. Their passage from Dj'ing to the production is more recent ( although already 3-4 years), but some of their songs have already been released on famous labels such as Mind Control, Utopia, Shiva Space Technology or Transient. Life Extension is performing a melodic & energizing Full On sound which isn't a real surprise regarding Avigmatic records discography & trademarks. Generally, it's quite hard, in this register, to encounter acts with some sounding specificities. Because it's used to say the 3/4 of Full on producers are closed in the same formulas & using nearly the same bank of sounds. However Life Extension belongs to this rare category which tries to possess their own soundscape & structures. Shiva, contrarily to its name, evoke for me, a solitary spaceship with few members inside in a futuristic & spatial environment. I would say the spaceship crew have been rejected from their natal planet & been catapulted by their government's leader, far away in the cosmos in order to never seen them back. Obviously the ship isn't brand new in order to add more spice to their afterlife's luck confronted to an obstacle race with asteroids... Breaking The Cage probably expresses the most Clubby Trance side of Life Extension, indeed through the album there's sometimes one Club Trance or Hardtrance lead by tune which are just punctuations. I must admit that at small dozes, i don't have worry with it. In this tune, it's getting more difficult for me to listen to those squeaking & nasal trumpet leads all along. The work is more on the atmosphere at first than on the vitality. Apart some quick 303 loops, Elektronik also integrates some Hardtrance tones, but there's a better Night Full On alchemy than in previous track. The tune really gains its full potential from 4"30, the tempo gets higher & the bewitching "Pizzicati" melody clearly finishes to awake you. Same Way starts well with a nice long dark flavoured intro (upto 2"00). Then Life Extension uses this Hardtrance Trumpetta. They seem to particularly enjoy it, unfortunately i don't share this taste, furthermore when it's associates with a puffing repetitive series of arpeggios . Hurricane possesses a strong muffled atmosphere in grey colouration during its beginning with a quite Funky bassline & some gloomy Japanese samples. We are indeed like deaf, facing the imminent natural disaster. The starter takes sound form under a carillon coupled with a cycling up melody. The Hurricane really manifests his power around 5"00, at this period it gets into an heavy & boisterous production in a Pigs In Space (old darkgoa project from Oforia) alike style. Come back to Groovy-Funky bassline with Unknown, the participation of Talamasca impacts somehow on the melodic leads & the flow of the tune. The atmosphere is more aggressive with metallic riffs, shrill tones & 303 lines. Around 3"45 there's a break with calmer part where the melody is delivered by a sort of xylophone, it confers a short exotic feeling. Indeed, it still lacks something for this song to have a real strong potential despite it's already a remix... Spiritual Communion has a fresh oceanic feeling which clearly differs from the others tracks by a lighter production. I receive a big impress of Nature while listening to this tune, a nice place still protected from crazy human destructive ideas for the environment. It will range easily in Dj's choices for their morning set, for its interesting combination of energy & mental evasion. There's just one expression to sum-up Connexion, it's Hard Trance production. So, you like the style or not ... For me, it's the worst tune of the album. Something Like That, permits to get back to more Full On aspects but for a last track i would have expected something easier to listen. I find out the harmony to be heterogeneous upto limit indigest, it's heavy & confused. Actually this last track shows perfectly the limits of Life Extension & that's a bit sad coz when we compared their good tunes to their weakest ones, you hardly believe you're listening to the same band. Globally i'm embarrassed with this album, tracks 1,3,5,7 demonstrates the best face of Life Extension (from a Full On production view) but the others tracks (except T6) are really a step below in quality & production. I think this album can gain extra recognition within the Club Trance sphere than just the strict limited Psytrance scene & that might be an initial target of the band indeed...
  13. Polyploid is Chris Gannon (from UK) who wrote, produced & mastered this album. Tracklisting: 1. Space Boxing POLYPLOID 2. Unlimited Weapons POLYPLOID 3. Nought Ark POLYPLOID 4. A Pocket Epic Bunker Din POLYPLOID 5. Salmon Shandy POLYPLOID VS DEVIANT ELECTRONICS 6. Bishop's Song POLYPLOID 7. Trick Dust POLYPLOID VS DEVIANT ELECTRONICS 8. Triumph Of Reason POLYPLOID 9. Three Quarter Tortoise MISSED CANNON 10. Just Pray POLYPLOID 11. Wishful Thinking POLYPLOID 1 Some mental ambient-break beat, trouble atmosphere , could remind some old industrial ambient from the mid 90's. 2 Still on the brekbeat's veine whereas the techno side let place to Dub tones here & even some Goa influences appears on the end. 3 Time for a piece of climatic ambient at beginning (take in mind as a somehow comparison the chill CD Violent Relaxation from Total Eclipse) , again the tracks benefits from old school-goa sounds mixed with break beat. 4 This composition opens the orchestral facet of Polyploid, so it's a more classical music approach here like you could encounter in some Juno Reactor's track in their Labyrinth album. 5 I was speaking about climatic ambient, i find out again this impress here but through a twisted filter, some oriental punctuations (percussion & layer) mark out this weird short tune. 6 Okay let's go to new musical directions: soul (organ) + funk + 303, indeed it's not that much ambient nor chill but clearly dedicated to the dance floors. 7 Now time to incorporate colder rock sounds, EBM atmosphere. Once again, it can't be called chill production, it's more on the freestyle boisterous side. After a while a name comes to me, there's something of Prodigy's spirit in this track with an ultra energised harmony made between the harsh rhythmic & the dry bass line plus the numerous sharp riffs. 8 First of all, let's change the track name from Triumph of reason into Triumph of the mad cold trumpets. Secondly, who said suomi? It's me, Squaremeat spirit floats over this tune ... I think Chris Gannon got some suomi origins from somewhere, it can't be otherwise, we need to check this! 9 Some dub + western atmosphere due to the banjo's riffs conferring this lonely feeling in a wide warm desert place. 10 Consists in Dub chill quite close to Ganja Beats sound in "Paradise & Tranquility" album, with many samples all along in a Nasa's conversation style alike. 11 The album ends up with a Jazzy tune with saxophone melody after some starting Gothic vocals. Grow Your Own is presented under the 'Chilled Break Beat' category or perceived such as Dub-Chill; personally i think the content can't be restricted to such denominations, it's too restrictive. Actually like i pointed out, the 11 track ranges a large spectre of music (including real dance floor tunes like tracks 6,7,8) which simply exceeds the concept of an ambient-chill album. Polyploid is definitively not the reviewer's friend : he always delivers something different from track to track furthermore his music is a quite complex melt of several musical styles, hard to describe or explain. Hopefully, Polyploid is truly the listener's friend & that's the most easy part to accomplish . Climaxes: 3,4,6,8,10 8/10
  14. V/A Binary Sequence [Resonnant Earth] 2007 1. Noble Savage (Marko Yliluoma) - Angelic Visitations In a Darkpsy style, it's a quite common stuff not especially attractive, neither bad nor good, just one more piece in the immensity of the whole darkpsy production which is quite productive... 2. Malice In Wonderland (Tom, Oli, Fred) – Wonderland In a psychedelic style (Parvatti rec), Malice In Wonderland brings an heavy, tense, fast & furious rolling tune. Contrarily to major part of this kind of stuff, this song doesn't sound too much cold & flat; coz of the presence of some aggressive tones or funny samples that maintain your braincells awaken. 3. Noble Savage – Ectoplasm It's without doubt the best Noble Savage tune on this v/a. It's a crazy production which aims to put you in a frenzy, it's a very thick sounding with lots of energy. By moment, the effects on leads (the collapsing detuning one) could remind you a bit of Ocelot's style but globally the tune manages to express a genuine trademark. 4. Spindrift – Kinetic Ok let's be frank, i find out the melody to be puffing & more globally the tune suffers from a lack of variation all along as a result these eight minutes are really annoying. 5. Uminum (Branko Tatabitovski, Viktor Gavrilski, Goran Antik and Mirko Èorak) - No Control It's an heavy old school production, reminding many goa references; the kinda smashing, stomping stuff we used to listen a lot through the 1996-98 period. The hardcore goa lovers will certainly enjoy it. 6. Spindrift (Leo Bergman) – Essence It's about dark-goa with lots of echoes on tones. With a decent mixing of the tune between the bassline & the rest, this stuff could have been interesting; but as it's too much pushed, it nearly covers the others elements & btw results quickly insignificant to my ears... 7. Landscape Observer (Kirill Yumatov) - Mind Game We start with a fast rolling rolling bassline, soon joined by metallic tones. The tune gets in pression little by little through an hypnotic loop immersed in a nebulous atmosphere. The melodic part comes around 2'38 in its first part, & gets full filled disappointing but hopefully doesn't ruined the whole thing. From 3'00, btw from here you can feel the old-school goa influences. For the break, the bassline changes toward one bouncier & comes back to the initial one after. At this moment (5'10), the melodic thema changes but reveals itself less effective than the the previous one. It can be noticed too the come-back of the metallic tones of the beginning. To sum up, So let's say that the 2/3 of the tune are really working & the final part is disappointing but hopefully doesn't ruined the whole thing. 8. Moodsyne (Jonatan H) - Frogs Breath We enter directly into a dark-goa flavoured production with trademarks which could emanates from Tim Schuldt, which means some real fatty sounds all around. It's particularly matching from 5'34. If you're fond of the previously quoted artist & /or 4CN (Four Carry Nuts), this tune is for you. 9. Skeletone (Vasko Kosturski) – Ottello After a birdie singing alike intro, the funky bassline appears. The kick could sounds a bit cheap-massive compared to the fine synth delivering a mischievous melody & the funky bass, that's a little pity. The initial melodic thema comes back in a electric riffs mode as a result the tune is sounding more boisterous now. From 4'45 upto 6'25, the melody gets sweater, & also multi-layered. The tune ends up on with the same musical configuration as it was at beginning. 10. Skeletone – Black & White Opening on a airy intro with a floating layer nevertheless this second Skeletone's tune is darker & more trippy. Once again, i'm not a big fan of the kick here too , this time due to its flat-cheap sounding. The atmosphere is soft haunted with trembling or jerky leads & layers. The track benefits also of a nice deep purring bassline & otherwise a good global production. It's always sympathetic to discover new names & different talents from all around the world, Resonnant Earth with Binary Sequence contributes at its turn & with its modest capacity to that. Furthermore, if you have nothing against stuffs ranging from goa to psyke via dark goa & darkpsy, let's give a listen to this v/a on the website of this netlabel . Favourites: 2,3,10 Climaxes:7,9
  15. v/a Take Over (Resonnant Earth) 2007 (sorry for the size of the pic ) Tracklist: 1. partickle - introspection (6:56) 2. skeletone - roots (6:46) 3. dosage - congo (7:13) 4. skallstars - cyclopcybin (6:47) 5. dosage - shuma (8:04) 6. svemirko - LSD 500 (9:18) 7. illusionary vizions - stone age (8:33) 8. dosage - fensy trolls (7:40) 9. skallstars - trepanation (6:24) 10. psoma - synthetic (7:59) 2 tracks constitutes the climax of this v/a: The Skeletone - Roots is particurlarly amazing, there's this special old school flavour a la 'Pigs In Space' (an old boisterous & energic Oforia project). In a totally different style, the Skallstars - Cyclopcybin is very sympathic based on bouncing & funny sounds with a jerkybassline conferring a kiddy toy feeling : welcome in the 'Happy Bouncy Land'. Otherwise my preferences goes to : the 3 Dosage tunes & the other Skallstars's track : Trepanation.
  16. 1> It was a long time since i last listened to a Protoculture (Nathaniel Raubenheimer)'s production, so i didn't know what to expect here. The style is still morning full on, but it has gained in smashing & heaviness. From 4'32, the tune evolves into its floating part (the paroxysm moment) , the layer is quite fresh & confers an adrenalin push. You'll be submit to a sudden euphoria, so be careful don't get cold. 2> Life Extension (Dj Olive & Dj Stenman) Vs. Crying Freemen (Dj Naya & Dj Salva) delivers something less emotional, all is based on the energy given by the powerful sounds (muted brass, heavy bassline, fat kick) with some arpeggio in guise of melody. Let Me Out is a nice body-dancefloor stuff, prepare you to sweat a lot when dancing on it; it also constitutes a positive view of what Life Extension have produced on their recent album 'Side Effects' on Avigmatic too. 3> Mixed Emotions (Or Kopel) &. Didrapest (Hanan Ben Armon) have produced here the quite widespread squealing Full On that you may like btw. Personally, it's not my thing & furthermore i find out the melody to be too much repetitive & gets quickly irritating on my nerves. 4>Things are going better with Intersys (Omri Azram & Moshe Maman) Vs. Optical Vision (Dudu Zohar) with a classic Israeli Full On stuff which means a quite bouncy bassline, some electric riffs as lead, plus some twisted fx sometimes on the metallic tones. In few words, the usual bank tones & production's tricks used by the I.F.O.M.P (Israeli Full On Mafia Production). 5> Space Buddha (Eliad Grundland) opens up his track on the pumping way, the sound is massive upto 2'30. After the 'break' (this moment will be certified by a vocal sample for everybody understanding lol, next time dear Space Buddha your mission, if you accept it is to place eitheir the word 'Climax' or 'Floating' in your next production ), it goes fairish, your head is turning at 360 degrees. Later on, another break will occur in a filtered mode this time & we will come back to the pumping mode with more aggressive leads this time. 6> Same as Protoculture, my last listen to Bio-Tonic (Jérôme Lecoq & Julien Lecoq & Julien Brizard) isn't recent. But indeed it seems it's like i never stopped to listen to them as i got the impress i already heard this tune before. At least, it was the case upto 2'20 where some minor changes happen compared to their previous productions (some 303 lines for examples) btw it's quite funny as it's the title of the tune 'Do the same thing', maybe a restricting wish emanating from the label owners who knows ... 7> Sine Die (Yohan Lasorsa) usually produces some goaish influenced Full On, with Eclipse he's just on the melodic Full On side with a funky rocked by a high tempo. I'd qualify the lead as kinda 'martian speaking' : a fast sharpy tone which twitters, something funny & catchy. 8> Digicult (Davy Piessens & Bert De Becker) keep going with the style that made their notoriety thanks to their debut album 'Avenida de Belgica'. Magic is axed on rock influences from 2'15,but you don't get the usual nervous electric riffs but a sweet melody with the electric guitar here, let's say they make it cry. It's a confirmation for this band which has the potential to generate an identifiable & genuine music. 9> Evoice (Vadim Mityagin) Vs. Digital Tribe (Shlomi Dahan) belongs them too to the I.F.O.M.P, so this stuff is dedicated for their fans, they know who they are... 10> Avigmati (Khetzal & Dj Chaï) get us used to genuine, effective songs, this time i'm slightly disapointed. I think it's due to the melody which isn't catchy enough to my taste coz if we consider the production, it's clean. It might come also from a little overdose of squealing tones & a global confuse thickness soundscape. Highlights:1,5 other preferences:2,7,8 Verdict: 7/10
  17. LIQUID STRANGER - The Invisible Conquest (Interchill) 2007 Tracklisting : 1 Vibration Ruling The Nation (8:01) 2 Liquid Stranger On The Run (2007) (5:56) 3 Djarum Express (7:32) 4 Familiar And Unknown (5:55) 5 Drop Sacrifice (4:06) 6 Splash Matters (7:18) 7 Cook N Curry (5:02) 8 Wallflower (1:07) 9 Confusion (6:51) 10 Mutants (Sneaky & Adaptable Mix) (7:21) 11 Doncamatic (5:41) 12 Faun On The Waters (8:34) Artwork By - Luke Brown Artwork By [Design] - Nick Edell Mastered By - Dave Blackman Vocals - Shuggoman Voice [spoken Word] - David Icke Written-By, Producer - Liquid Stranger Written & produced in the forest and in the desert by Liquid Stranger and his friends 2005-2007. Liquid Stranger is Martin Stääf one of the numerous scandinavian producer (swedish to be precise) in the psycene and probably not the most notorious one nevertheless you might have probably listen to his past project productions. Actually Martin is one half of progressive band Necton & has also release tracks on his own on Plusquam compilation such as Bomberclaad under the name Slugger, more recently he focused on the down tempo side with his new project Liquid Stranger. Taking these two examples (The Slugger's tune & the last Necton album 'Children of the noisy village' in which some tunes were an alchemy of chunky prog & dub). So, you understand Martin isn't recently involved in Dub territories & has always developed an interested for this style, so that's not a surprise to see him coming with a full length Dub album. Now, let's take some time for decrypting some of the songs in The Invisible Conquest. 2 Liquid Stranger On The Run (2007) (5:56) The opening is especially interesting, it puts you nicely in an expectation feeling. There's immediately coming in my head the vision of a fat & funny cartoon smiling guy trying to walk but who is forced to bounce each 3 steps coz he would have too much fizzy cola drink for example. 3 Djarum Express (7:32) Here we recover some trademarks from Necton in the chunky approach of the choice of sounds. Otherwise there's an exercise of jumping contrast between the warm deep bass & the other sharp melodic instruments. If Djarum Express was a train, it would be an old slow but sympathic one, travelling through the desert from oasis to oasis in circle. 4 Familiar And Unknown (5:55) Before i forget it, i'd like to mention how i find globally humoristic the Liquid Stranger's tracks, this one is a good example of it. For the break at 2''15, the bass line becomes very catchy, sexy (!?) for me, it's like if it makes me a wink or if it would be possible to pull out me its tongue...i must admit it, i'm sure i always meet this person somewhere before 6 Splash Matters (7:18) Good, good, the base line is going freaky jazzy in this song, where does it drives us? Indeed up to the 3'55 break, very psy-floating with the '' weird whirldpooling'' escape. Compare to the others, it sounds much more hypnotic, repetitive & some may consider it annoying. 10 Mutants (Sneaky & Adaptable Mix) (7:21) This is the speediest tune of the album. It also brings something different through the bank tones used in order to cook a different feeling; something sweeter & mainly more evanescent as a woman's fragrance. 11 Doncamatic (5:41) In this track there is a succession of many little weird details which actually are the spice of this production. One of the best prove could be the little break at 4''10 & the embellishment of the bicycle' ring as a triangle. Once again i perfectly imagine this song as a cartoon's TV soundtrack. 12 Faun On The Waters (8:34) As conclusion, Liquid Stranger delivers an enigmatic dub-atmosphere jewel tinted of fairish. The Invisible Conquest among the dub albums productions takes place in the emotional, intimate & sometimes fairish side of it, the music delivered is much story-telling if you focus on if you listen to it with your cortex. Liquid Stranger for his first album proposes an interesting refreshing entertaining content, it's not the most awaited album of the period due to a lack of notoriety of the artist but like i enjoy to say : this album wins easily the title of the best of chill album of end 2007. mark:8,5/10 recommended
  18. Mauxuam - Viceversa (Interchill cd 33) 2008 Tracklisting : 1. B4 After 2. Extended Body 3. Jahnesh (Divine Cluster Version) ? 4. Stones Of Gaza 5. Where Was I Going? 6. Viavai 7. Ulezak (Snakebyte Remix) 8. Cloudcycle 9. 8 - 1 10. Wiggly Things I had to try a listen through different moments of the day in order to find when Mauxua's ( Maurizio Liguori ) music is the more effective on my mood. My opinion is Viceversa fits much better for a night listening or more exactly when the outdoor context is dark, which also means a rainy day with a grey sky in full day for example. The 3 last tunes nicely progress together, T8 & T9 got some similarities to me by their time running first, their deep peaceful hypnotizing power. T9 is different through its more unpolished sounding aspect, more audacious whereas T8 could sound more "classical" old school ambient production but results terribly successful with a voodoo hint. I've got a strong connection with the end of this album, that's the part i enjoy the most. Indeed, including T 10, these tracks aren't the most experimental or hybrid compared to other ones. Saying that, i realize now the longer the Mauxuam's tunes are and generally more easily i can penetrate them & more i like them. T 5 constitutes a good example, with its night glacial atmosphere mixed with a lonesome feeling conferring a true tripping musical experience. T3 is a song which deserves some comments too due to its thickness & mysterious side. It's a bit "the Jungle", like exploring alternatively falsely familiar areas & unexplored paths : exotically refreshing. Concerning T1 named 'B4 After', i invite you to check what i already wrote in my comment about V/A Future Memories, also released on Interchill (if you didn't make it yet) . I will conclude with T4 which symbolises a bit the global spirit of this Chill-Out album from Mauxuam & permits me to sum up it. The music drives you in a discontinuous flow without shocks although Mauxuam doesn't hesitate to immerse you with several influences mixed, twisted or stretched tones, unpolished sounds & indus background samples. That's it : Mauxuam immerses you under tons of elements, all is soft but coming from everywhere! Listening to Viceversa, is cerebrally involving : it switches on your brain & asks for all your free neurons available. Don't be afraid & come in.

    V/A - Future Memories

    1. Eat Static (Merv Pepler and Joie Hinton) - Sands of Time, contains a majority of sharp tones with a bucolic forest walk's feeling riding a horse at a walking pace ; it's something very calm, peaceful, bracing or yet climatic. 2. Ultimax (Max Kosenko from Israel) – Noir , consists in some Jazzy downtempo with some unpolished background sounds. After the middle break, the melody changes through a darker way which contrasts so much with the first part that you're wondering if you're still listening to the same thing. The answer is yes & i'm convinced that was the goal targeted by the artist here . 3. Radiate (Seb Taylor & Nick Edell) – Witchkraft, appears as a simple or minimalist tune if you don't really take care while listening. Indeed it's a very chiseled production , which is very deep, mental with soft sounds but also catchy & hypnotizin. 4. Phutureprimitive (Rain) - Deeper feat. Alyssa Palmer, I don't understand what the hell is doing this tune on this compilation, it's just some cheap pop-chill : a big error of casting according to me. 5. Mauxuam (Maurizio Liguori) - After B4 , for some experimental sounding, quite close to Jens Buchert soundscape. For those who don't know the previous quoted artist, let just precise the influences are eclectic & the content is mental. 6. Tripswitch (Nick Brennan) – Lyra , the discrete opening is murky soon accompanied with a slow motion rhythmic. Then there's the main pattern (the base of the tune) which is too much repetitive & gets quickly boring despite some efforts to make the track evolve with the piano thema for example from the break at 3"30; global result a lack of variation. 7. Solar Fields (Magnus Birgersson from Sweden) – Jeezlh , if there would be a single song to retain from this cd, it will be this one. Usually i'm not a big fan of Solar Fields but here it's different cause that's the best track i've ever heard from him mixing emotional, tripping, hypnotic, floating, fairish & unpolished parts. 8. Snakestyle (Matt Embleton from London)- Neutral Bouyancy , the music is weird, subtle, beatless tends to be minimalist too & results quite difficult to get in. To sum up the spirit of the track, i could say that at the same time it's a good one coz you can listen to it with absolutely no difficulties & on the other side when it finishes you don't remember anything of it like if it was never played. In a word: strange. 9. Carbon Based Lifeforms – Reaktion strongly reminds me Solar Quest's productions from 1994, the Orgship album. Actually i'd prefer CBL sounding like in their Hydroponic Garden album (even if it would be a bit warmed up) instead of Solar Quest , despite the undeniable quality of the tune... 10. Cell (Alex Scheffer from France) - Spinning Whale, sadness is all around here packed with deep, hypnotic production & a hint of ether which could makes turn your head. Unfortunately, my attention focuses on the snare sound which doesn't fit with the rest of the banktones employed that's a real pity cause i think it contributes to ruin the track. I personally consider more difficult to conceive an ambient-chill compilation than a dancefloor one, because on the downtempo scene, the artists have more facilities to exploit their personality, their own musical universe. That's a bit the worry of Future memories : picking up the tunes one by one would be perfect to the condition of not considering an artistic coherence all along & here it seems to be only partly intended. climax:7 Mark : 7/10
  20. 1. Tuned Mass Damper => Twisted techno/ambient experimental production with unpolished tones & weird, mad samples as you could expect from Eat Static, cold nightie feeling here. 2. Pharaoh => Is about a very Oriental tune nicely rhythmic, with an orchestral alchemy according to me. 3. Lo-Ride Sloucher => Complex & weirdest tune of the album, notably with a special chopped up fx all along on the sounds. 4. Flippity Flippity => Blue Note spirit (Jazzy stuff here). 5. Epoch Calypso => Do you want smoking cigarillo Cubano, drinking brown rhum, taking sun, enjoying some rhythmo latino, contemplating old cars from 50's for very few money ? It's possible with Eat Static Airlines & the fly Epoch Calypso. 6. Holy Stone => This one is more on the dubby side but remains very Eat Static sounding, which means crazy, distorted, very diversified but always musically coherent & furthermore melodic. 7. Pearl Of Wisdom => A sunset on a deserted beach, warm climate, with fresh air is surfing on your skin. Nevertheless some moment benefits from audacious & rough tones which strongly contrasts with the soft sunny overall perception, like something wanted to get you outside this idyllic coma. 8. Up, Periscope => Based on a very catchy loop, the title also describes perfectly the idea of the track. Get ready for some submarine explorations through mysterious misty seas, no worry the sonar is active & effective. So it's up to the captain not to steer in circle... 9. Dune Rider => Oriental tune with a progressive building, the rhythmic aspect takes a preponderant part here contrarily to most of the album. 10. Valley Of The Moon => Could be compared to the tale of a summer night on a flying carpet over a yellow illuminated old civilization. 11. The Wreckage =>It's like a siren song bewitching you through the abyss of chill soundscapes. If you're expecting from Eat Static – Back to Earth from one hand something genuine, melodic, eclectic for a chill production and on the other hand the usual trademarks from the band (a musical mix between experimentation & raving spirit); you'll be completely charmed by this first down-tempo album by this pioneer psytrance band. 21. Kuba - How The future Sounded (Chillcode cd 10 - 2008) 1. Freak Controle 2. Stop That 3. Shining Rage 4. Something to say 5. How the future sounded 6. Kailash 7. Thousands of armys 8. Give it time (Indian Summer Mix) 9. But your dreams may not 10. Moksha 11. Try to forget 12. Wood is good It's the tenth Chillcode's release, so it's somehow an event in the label history. In order to celebrate it, the German label comes back with a second Kuba's album. Quite shared on first Laurence Harvey's productions released on the label, i wasn't really concerned with How The Future Sounded. I took the opportunity of a full listen of this album and at the very first try, my mind changed. So what's the difference? Paradoxally, i'd answer nothing ... I have the feel Kuba chose a more direct, emotional writing without altering his capacities. There's a come-back to the roots of the UK Psy-Chill here, the spirits of T.I.P – Mystical Experiences, the first Shpongle as same as the OTT's version are present. ...And at the same time , the music is very accessible & couldn't be more open targeted with all its influences : Indian (several T),Rock (T 3), IDM (T 7), Reggae (T 8) , Blues (T 11) just to mention few ones. On a long travel by car for holidays for example, this album is THE ideal companion for the coolest trip possible even if you're lost in major traffic-jam under heavy heat.
  22. An acoustic ethno-chill album with vocals, on the paper the concept didn't amaze me that much. As soon i understood the form it took through the use of bassoon in several tracks or warm, muffled & soft African vocals or country-folk influences; i started reconsidering my view about this new Kaya Project's album. Seb Taylor has operated some unexpected alchemies ranging from classic to oriental via Asian, jazzy,African, country-folk or break beat. The most astonishing resides in his capacity to employ very distinctly sometimes 3 or 4 big influences in unique coherent tracks. In order to highlight the previous statement, i'd recommend the listen of "Jammin with Marco", "Saranghi Breaks", "Zema Lasu", "Five plus Eight", "Bekhudi" in order to catch a clear idea of the result. mark: 8/10
  23. Cosmo Chaos - Laws Of Motion ( Mandala records Cd 07) Tracklisting: 1 Vanishing Point 2 The Alchemy 3 Laws Of Motion 4 Illusion 5 Amplified 6 Balance Of Opposites 7 Design A Shiny Mind 8 Inner Impact 9 Floating Flow Written-By, Producer, Mastered By Cosmo Chaos aka Aleks Serkisyan. After a first Boisterous night full-on album 'Trespasser' released 5 years ago on S.S.T, the second Cosmo Chaos's second album ' Laws Of Motion' comes out on French label Mandala records. It's important to notice while this 5 years gap, Cosmo Chaos's style moved from dark to morning soundscapes. In this lighter but still pumping style, 2 tracks come out above : The Alchemy & Amplified. Last track keeps the trademarks of the album but offers a fatter & slower rhythmic with some vocals as a result Floating Flow gets some genuine extra points. Illusion reveals some nice frenzy moments unfortunately i'm not fan of the break. For Balance Of opposites, it's catchy up to the break (3'30). The worry for me, is the restart has less intensity's impact than before the break (due to softer employed tones) , so i'm quite lost. Design A shiny Mind, perfectly ranges under the "Diesel" category which means a slow starter with a longly progressive acceleration for a final coasting climax . Inner Impact is just a bit too squealing for me. And finally Vanishing Point & Laws Of Motion constitute a good idea of what could be the average quality of the album.
  24. ABAKUS - The Jaguar Session "The first in a series of experimental concept albums hosted by Abakus" The album is presented as a concept, full story from start to finish as continuous mix - A journey. It is jammed full of music and ideas ********* Indeed this album is close in a way in its concept to the Gringolocomotion one from Ian Ion, i mean a non-stop concept album mixing different styles. At the exception here , the sound is punchier & more eclectic, psychedelic also. By the way, the musical direction is completely different from his first album 'That Much Closer To The sun" which was fully Dub trademarked as it's going in different electronic directions, maybe with more old school techno (90's)influences i'd say and even we could reach some kinda EBM territories somehow. Interesting initiative from Modus rec to offer this album as free by simply joining the mailing list of Abakus on his myspace=> http://www.myspace.com/artistabakus
