I agree with most stuff already mentioned But other stuff you mention here I don't like at all: For example Digweed, I don't enjoy any of his stuff or from Bedrock. I guess it's a matter of taste. There are tons of Rock/Metal bands and artists (i.e Portnoy, Patton etc) that produce great music for decades.... Even this years Black Sabbath album is not bad at all. I won't go into that, the list is endless: Tool, Pentagram, Pearl Jam, Dream Theater, NIN, Madball, Slipknot... For electronica: FSOL + side projects, Seb fontaine, Vincent De moor, Juno Reactor, Boards of Canada, Most of Ulitmae (as individuals, they are older than the company), Amo Tobin...

IM and transwave for sure. -
There's also: Jaia - Opera 2.0 and a lot of the Juno Reactor tracks from the Matrix era

A few weeks ago I was dreaming that Pearl Jam came to Athens for a 2nd time and the PA company that I work for were responsible for the production so I was backstage all night. This is not TOO far-fetched for 2 reasons: 1) Pearl Jam got back together and are touring with a new album, so they might pass by Europe come Summer/Autumn! 2) We are a big PA company so it's a project we could handle! I was telling the guys here but they weren't particularly excited, they prefer Greep Pop Music (bliaaaachhh!!!)

I will investigate what you say, I'm not familiar with Cwithe or Acid Lab. ...but nonetheless I enjoy your passion!!! -
I found my off-topic post from that day... What I rememeber today and what I wrote then pretty much coincide, I'm very surprised. I had written that Slinky Wizard was dissapointing but since Slinky Wizard didn't show up, I guess it must have been the Total Eclipse set that Draeke metions he didn't particularly like. I also don't remember Dimitri playing modern stuff at the Goa room, so maybe I was at the chill out at the time.

I have some photos as well, don't know if I have posted them here...... just checked, I have the link on page 2. Although there were many dissapointments for me in that party: Transwave and KoxBox playing total rubbish (didn't stay more than 10 mins each), the overcrowdiness and the bar service being horrendous. However, it remains a fantastic night for various reasons: 1)Meeting many psynewers 2)Listening to some great music all night. Except for Prometheus and Hallucinogen, I spent all night at the goa room and just a little time at Shpongle. Green Nuns were fantastic, I remember leaving at 8 in the morning, checking my clock and couldn't believe I had been in the place since 10.00pm... how time flies when you are having fun. 3)The day after I started my 3 month solo trip to India, were I also met with Psynewer (I think Cosmo) in Mysore, amongst doing many other crazy things I remember someone telling me that at 9am they closed all the secondary stages and Tristan played a phenomenal old-school set, can someone confirm this? I also don't remember Total Eclipse at all, but I'm certain I was at the Goa room practically all night, could anyone that was more sober or knowledgable shed some light here. I remember talking to someone online the following day and they didn't know either

I have listened to Hallucinogen live more than ten time and I always said to my friends that he's the man. They never really paid too much attention......until 3 years when we all went together at Hallucinogen live in a club in Athens. After that night, they realised what I was talking about and now they say: Hallucinogen = the best party of our lives.

What music are you listening to right now?
Trunksan replied to Sputum Rotgut's topic in General Psytrance
I'm rehashing my Stoner/Sludge/Southern metal (most of the bands) and my psychedelic Rock/Punk (Kylesa). And a little bit of Trentemoller (he's also visiting Athens this month). A great month Music wise + we've got the carnival coming! -
I'm lucky that I work in the professional sound and lighting industry so I get stuff super cheap. At home: Numark CDN36 Dual CD decks (very basic model but got it in perfect condition for 50 eur) EDIT: this is a wrong pic. This is the CD24 I also have a technics BD22 vinyl deck. Again, very basic model but it's good for home listening (I think I got this for 20 eur and paid another 50 eur for a belt and cartridge) American AUDIO Q-span Mixer, very basic but the WOW and 3d depth effects really improves the sound (again got it brand new for about 80 eur) Edit: Agais this is not the corect pic. This is a replica of American Audio Yahama RX-V 5.1 Amp (can't remember which model exactly, but this one I bought retail price) It's got very good sound quality like all Home cinema amps but not much power, I have everything plugged in on it (2 PCS, TV/PS3) with HDMI or Digital cable and of course the mixer in analog. Speakers I have 5 professional speakers that I got for free through work: 2 x 150W Plastic KODA (rear) 2 X 180W Plastic Seer Audio (front) 1 x 200W custom made wooden speaker (this is my central speaker) A crappy Yamaha active Sub that came with the amp. I Keep saying that I want to get a decent sub but the problem is that at work most subs are 12" or 15" and the active 8" monitor subs that we have (Genelec or Audio Performance) cost a few thousand euros each and of course they won't give it to me for free. Obviously since the amp is 5x100W, the speakers are heavily underused but since we are talking just about a living room, the amp constantly plays at -12db, I don't think I've ever touched the volume, I just control it from the PC or the mixer. So basically the speakers are tottaly wasted in such a small place and of course the sound is not very consistent (since the speakers are different). The good thing is that whenever someone wants to throw a party I just grab a pro amp from work (something small like 2 x 250w @ 8 ohms) and we take my speakers and have blast!!! Now it's time to show off, this is the stuff at work: From front to back (this is about 1/5th of the speakers we have at the warehouse but it's probably the most impressive corner) L-Acoustics KARA line array and SB18 Subs Audio Performance (Switzerland) Line array - VERY high quality brand of speakers yet very undervalued, underappreciated and unpopular (everyone wants L-acoustics or Nexo) Seer Audio Line array Clair Brothers R2T - Clair Brothers are KINGS in the live sound department, by far the best speakers in the world for live musical instruments Electro voice (don't rememeber which model) Various Subwoosers At the back you can also distinguish 3 LA8 amps. The systems usually run with Lab Gruppen or Chevin Research amps and through Yamaha or Avid (digidesign) digital consoles. The problem is that we are so busy with work that we rarely get the chance to play them for fun although recently we hang the KARA system from the 3rd floor of the building at a signle file (12 speakers) and put 6 SB28s underneath. We took order in playing songs (each employee played one song and then the next in circles), I played mostly classic metal stuff like Pantera and Metallica. It was good fun and luckily noone called the police. Although the system massively underperformed since we didn't have a good enough power supply.

Exactly, Simon P is much more famous as 1/2 Shpongle rather than as Hallucinogen. Which make sense, since he's made Shpongle albums this millenium and his last Hallucinogen album was at the previous one. Of course we all know that even ALL Israeli artists COMBINED don't even begin to touch the greatness of Simon P... but that's another matter... Trunksan throws a bomb and sits back as hell breaks loose, eating popcorn

I think one must take into consideration that the average Psynews memeber, is much more knowledgable than the average goa/psy listener. For example trip tonite, teleport and mahadeva are tracks that get played often at the houses of friends that I visit, whenever they decide to have a goa party or just play goa in the company of friends. On the other hand Hallucinogen and Transwave are 2 artists that are often overlooked. IMHO it has to do with how prolific Etnica, MWNN and AP have been in their travels and appearances in Greece. The Etnica and Etnicanet guys make an appearance almost every month in Athens AP used to play here all the time in their golden days MWNN didn't come here very often but teleport still gets played all the time On the other hand Simon P, played in a club 3 years ago and except for the Aurora festival hadn't visited Greece for maybe 7 years and even before that he didn't play that often. LSD also hasn't got a Super memorable melody (like Trip Tonite or Land of Freedom). Transwave had stopped playing music under this banner for many years, people around here know Dado,Deedrah,Synthetic and GBU more than Transwave On the other hand if you took the survey in the UK, I'm pretty sure LSD would crush all competition and obviously in Israel Mahadeva or Kabalah would do the same. In Greece I'd say Trip Tonite would probably be first since people love Etnica and especially MAX.

For me... S.U.N is the place to be and second is OZORA.

I'm actually comng back to contradict myself... I booked tickets for TruckFighters (Swedish Prog/Stoner metal band) for Friday and there's also RIOT V (ex RIOT) for people that are into the more classic metal sound, Iced Earth (bleeeeeeeeeh), Blue Oyster Cult, Red Fang (might go), Misfits + a few others the following weeks... Obiously these are not the Metallicas and Pearl Jams of music but they are very good quailty bands and with a 15-20 eur tickets nowadays it's a great night out.

I worked in retail banking for 5 years for a Cypriot Bank In Greece, I quit and got a lump sum (AKA Golden Handshake) only 1 month before the Cypriot Banks collapsed and the ECB saved them (gotta trust your instict!!!!!) I now do a job that I REAALY enjoy, I work in the office for a company in the entertainement sales and services (professional sound and lighting sales and rentals), so I'm inside the Broadcasting and club/bar/live music industry... It's full of rotten people, very demanding but it pays well and it's very rewarding at the same time +++++ I get free entrance and/or drinks at all the concerts, live stages, clubs and bars.

Happy new year Everyone! For me 2013 was a huge transistion, I quit my 5 year banking career in January (bare in mind that I live in Greece with ~30% unempolyment), have changed 3 jobs since then and now I work in company that setups clubs, live stages, TV studios, festivals, concets, theaters and generally anything that has to do with live sound and light. Since going there in summer I've helped the company grow and be put in financial order (everything was very norganised before), now we are running 2 TV studios and going for a 3rd, we have equipment in 5 of the biggest live stages in Athens (AKA Bouzoukia), many smaller clubs in Athens and the rest of Greece and we will be the first company in Greece to have a Clair Brothers (Best speakers for live sound by miles) Line Array so if we manage to get it in time, we have been promised the EJEKT festival by the organisers. As for autumn we are already planning to rent equipment for all of ANT1 (one of the biggest TV channels in the country) live productions which includes: Dancing with the starts, The voice, Your face sounds familiar, some talk shows + 1 more live show that we have no idea what it will be. So overall, professionaly, I feel that it will be a SMASHING year!!! To be honent may life is in a great state overall, financially, sexually, physically and emotionaly, which is in great contrast to what is happening around me, since the lack of money has made everyone in Greece miserable. I actually feel like I'm only getting started and by the end of the year I'll be in an even better state and probably be a home owner before the summer and I also have 2 more investments that I want to make, the crisis is actually my opportunity to make it big time now that the prices are low and I have both cash and availability to banking aid (both very rare nowadays). As for my NYE it was a frantic day at work, all our customers wanted to have something special for the night, so although I work in the office, I was delivering spare parts, speakers and lighting fixtures all over Athens until ~10pm. Slept until 4am, woke up and went to my old-yet-new little favourite club in Athens. It's called "Gkazaki loft", it used to be called just Gkazaki and played pop/rock/disco (been going there for years) and now they've built a second floor that plays tech-house from a PHENOMENAL Funktion One sound system, so now I have no reason to go anywhere else in Athens for a casual night out, just Gkazaki... I love the place!!! I left Gkazaki at about 10am, had breakfast and walked just 2 streets for the "Ace Ventura, Egorytgmia, Sirion" party, I WAS APPALLED that they asked me to pay 20 eur entrance at FUCKING 10 in the morning even though the big names had finished their sets before 8am, I just smiled and left promising myself that I'll avoid these organisers in the future. I think it will be a great wear music-wise as well. My friend Harris (AKA FisHimself of Ultmae Records) has already planned Asura for this month and A SUPER DUPER event in March: PRANA, BOTFB and SANDMAN (I'll suggest I rent him some proper equipment from my company, like L-Acoustics or Audio Performance) and there are other prog, psy and goa events all over Athens every weekend. The only bad thing is that I don't see any interesting concerts (unlike past years), except for black rebel motorcycle club. The concerts scene has been pretty dry after the summer and it seems to be going worse. Anyway HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

This party is just outside of Athens in Eleusina (where the infamous mustical Eleusinian Mysteries used to take place in ancient Greece, supposedly with the use of Ergot "infected" cereal grains). One of my mates is part of the organising team, he's friendly with the Arkanoydz/Etnicanet crew. However, it is very surprising that they got Kris (Elysium), I thanked him that they managed to get him to play since his appearances are pretty rare and asked him how they managed to... he just said thank you and smiled without saying anything. I'm actually curious to go and speak with Kris, as we are both old members of Psynews and I know that online he appears to be very strong-headed, although I have a feeling that in person he'll be more complacent. Would anyone want to ask him or tell him anything in person?

Actually I can't be bothered to talk about Goa/Psy much, I'd rather listen to it or party to it... So Radi feel free to join us:

Some artists are just not like others, so it´s with Ott
Trunksan replied to radi6404's topic in General Psytrance
He's a great producer and DJ, can get a bit repetitive but nonetheless his work is superb. He's also a very funny guy... I remembet at a Twisted Records party in London around 2004 (he had long hair and was even chubbier) he was wearing a purple skirt and was eating a plate of pasta while DJing at the chill out... it was a marvel to watch and listent to!! -
The pringipessa that this song talks about is actually a friend of mine... I'm not bulishiting you. Malamas wrote the lyrics for this song in the summer of 1993 or 1995 (not sure about the year) on an early morning bus to Athens. The previous night , after a performance, he spent the night on the beach with the Pringipessa (Foteini, a very pretty girl with blue eyes and big boobs) drinking a bottle of whiskey that she had knicked from her bother (my friend). The song was eventually released in 2000.

Excellent! I also dream of going back to Asia for backpacking. Since I've already been to India, I want to start in North India (probably Delhi, since I didn't spend time there), then Nepal and then head down to Indo-China (Laos, Burma, Cambodia,Vietnam), my only problem is that this has to happen in the summer (my GF is a teacher) and it's the rainy season down there.... and it can be tough. I was at Himachal Pradesh (Indian Himalayas) in December and it was only bad at night, during the day it was actually nice most of the time! Make sure you do a lot of shopping too!!! Next time I go I'll have my bags empty so I can fill them up with clothes and all the other useless-yet-lovely junk you find when travelling!!!
