Paraísos Artificiais - Brazilian love/drama set in the Psy scene
Trunksan replied to Trunksan's topic in General Psytrance
Yeah, t's just set in the psy scene since the girl is a DJ, other than that, just another SUPERFICIAL drug/love story. -
I guess most people don't know this film, it's a love story/drama between a psy dj (female) and a drug mule. It's nothing special in terms of cinematography and acting, but it's a film that, I think, a lot of us can relate to. I enjoyed it! The festival scenes I GUESS must be shot a Universo Parallelo. I could recongise Skazi, Magnetrixx and Frogacult being played. IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2102396/?ref_=sr_1

Equalizer settings for goa or psytrance
Trunksan replied to Trance2MoveU's topic in General Psytrance
I think it really comes down to personal preferences and the setup that you have. For goa, I tend to lower the Hi-Freqs, the hi-hat annoys me generally and I also add some mids if there's a nice melody. Old goa/psy needs some bass added a lot of the time as well. -
Thanks for all the reccomendations... We had a nice time at the party, not a lot of ppl came since everyone had somethin elsey organised for NYE (time with parents, kids or other parties), but we played a lot of prog and low-bpm goa: Vibrasphere, Freq, Tegma, Passenger, Biot, mindwave, ticon, andromeda and early in the morning (6ish) it was me and another old-school goa fan (he HAD a massive vinyl collection scattered all over Greece, he used to lend it to everyone and now there's hardly anything left, a lot stolen and a lot lost) so I introduced him to Artha and we had a blast!

I think Sideffect really got my spirit... Exccept for MOS all the other groups are stuff that I had in mind more or less... Especially liquid soul, I think a lot of people can appreiciate them... now that I think about it, some Human Blue would also be a nice choice. As for "non psy ppl don't dig Psy/trance" I was once at a friends Bday party and he "high on acid" comes up to me and says... "man.. can you go home and bring some music..", so I went home and brought some CDs and mp3s with me.... bare in mind, I'd never DJed before, I knew how mixing works, but never actually done it. The party was at some dude's bar and there were a lot of people, not just attendees of the Bday party, and even the guests had no connection with PSY . So at some point he tells me to go up to the decks.. I played a lot of ticon, jaia, Freq some logic bomb and then ended with some astral, MWNN and Shakta, I even got an applause from all the ppl and when another DJ went up the decks they pulled him down and told me to go and play some more, which I did... My point: You can play PSY/GOA to "common" ppl, as long as it is well selected.
-
I'm organising a NYE party at my place and there will be all kinds of people invited, from family to my junky friends, so I want to make music selection the will be digestable, by all kinds of crowds.... If it was my choice, I'd play hadrcore metal or Goa all night, but I'm trying to have everyone have a great night.... so what kind of artists would you play for such a crowd? Bare in mind that they most of them listen to electronica and are open to all kinds of music, so they are quite receptive ppl. High BPM is definetly a NO NO and there will be a lot of club trance not just Goa/PSY so throw some club trance anthems/artists as well that could go well with Psy. My choices are BPC, old KoxBox, most of the proggy stuff, Electric Universe, some MWNN, maybe early etnica, Khetzal, Jaia, may some CHI-AD I'd like to avoid the typical Israeli sound MFG, Astral, Shiva Shidapu, it has a bad reputation here as Tsiftenteli trance. So.. throw me some reccomendations.. old or new!! Thanks!!!

Old/New MP3 player - Running on Goa and leg injury
Trunksan replied to Trunksan's topic in General Psytrance
Did you install rockbox? Or kept the original firmware? I think rockbox sounds better because it doesn't convert the files... The gigabeat turned everything to .WMV. With Rockbox when you play a .wav, it's played as wave, an .mp3 uses the Mpeg codec, so no loss of quality during the conversion. And obviously WMP and it's files are shitty anyway. I don't know what format applr uses- 4 replies

I'm a big Dragonball fan (and manga fan generaly obviously). Trunksan is basically Trunks-san condensed (in the early internet days special charactes were a no no), son of Vegeta and Bulma. He was my favourite character because he is the sanest in a group of lunatics (Goku, Piccolo, Vegeta. Krillin, Yamcha, Goten, gohan...) and the only one who fits a more western-type hero, which is a bit like myself and my friends. I'm always around to get them out of trouble, it usually involves lending them money and never getting it back (even when we were at primary school), getting them out of trouble from drug dealers or people that want to beat them up (I'm a wrestler and Judoka and people know that), finding them jobs, buying stuff online since I'm the only one with a credit card that's still working, driving to pick them up when they are stuck... I don't know if this happens in other countries but in my town every family also has a nikcname so as not be confused with other families with the same surname. The nicknames range from the rudest to the ridiculous: For example my Great - Grandfathers family had the nickname "Mourtiris" and even now whenever an a old man asks me what's my surnaname I say my surname and then clarify "Of Mourtiris" not "Tsimpidas" nor "Patsarelos". Some funny family nicknames include: Skatas (shitty), Kwlonteros (ass-intestine), Kwlotoumpas (assroll), Podilatos (bicycle), Selinos (Celery), Skoros (moth), Koliaboom (I have no clue), Nteko (the sound of an old engine Nteko-Nteko-Nteko-Nteko-Nteko), Mplitsis (this comes from the Beatles).. Most show a profession for example Tsimpidas = blacksmith, Neros = warer man, Aspros = whiteman/milkman but a lot are super funny.

Hi, just a "semi-off topic" topic. I haven't written much the past years, so now that I have something interesting to tell, I thought I might put down a rant with some info that you might find interesting. Part 1 Around 2007 I bought a Toshiba Gigabeat S (now discontinued since Toshiba allied with microsoft for the horrbile Zune). I hated Ipods (despite the excelent interface) for all of Apple's propietary/exclusivity shit , the overpricing, all the U2 hype and the fact that other MP3 players at the time were better sounding and relatively open (creative ZEN being the best sounding at the time IMHO) so I bought the Gigabeat S 60GB for about $300. I hoped I'd take it with me for travelling, but I soon realised that I don't want to carry a $300 piece of tech with me, so I settled for a shitty 20 eur chinese mp3 clone for when I travel. So I was left with a semi-dissapointing gigabeat that stayed for many years in my gym (I have a small personal gym/room) and I took it with me for jogging, I always said that's it's the only piece of OVERPRICED equipment I've ever bought. And I say semi-dissapointing and overpriced because: 1)The interface is from microsoft, it's not good and battery consuming 2)It only syncs with Windows Media Player via a database/mp3tag system, so you don't have access to the file tree (I now found out that WMP autorenames the files to numerics so even if you manage to have acces to the files you're screwed). Obvioysly it doesn't work as a HDD and has a limited number of file types supported. 3)The battery is a generic Toshiba bat and doesn't last long The sound and amplification is fine though and the HDD is fast and stable. So it's OK for casual listening. The past weeks, my brother who's unemployed (after being fired like the majority of Greek youth emplyeees) has been messing around with hacking/moding his Samsung S2 phone, he's an IT genius so he can program, hack, and repair most IT stuff (and if he can't, he'll just study and do it eventually). So I thought I might have a go at the Gigabeat. So after a bit of searching I ended up @ rockbox.org. A free music player firware that is meant to overcome all those apple, microsoft et all, locks and exclusivities. Even though the Gigabeat S is not fully supported so I had to manually do some compiling (nothing special really), I flashed the old firware and installed rockbox. For the fully supported players it's a piece of cake. So what happened??????? The shitty Gigabeat S has been turned to A SUPER SUPER DUPER HDD/Media player system not a simple mp3 plater. I can't compliment this piece of software enough!!!!! It's like nothing I've ever seen or heard of before . It gives Winamp for the PC a run for it's money and it's a bloody FREE OPEN SOURCE portable player. Video and sound capabilities ,parametrisation and customisation are UNBELIEVABLE. I'm so excited that I went and gave them a $20 donation. I won't even bother with most of them but I'm sure some of you migh find those capabilites intersting. The sound is even better and the amplification too. I put a custom theme (I wear glasses so I need big fonts) as well and the Gigabeat is now SMOKING HOTTTT!!!! p!!! And the possibilities it gives you are fantastic... You can do some search and find which supported portable players (check the website for the supported players, most are older ones) has the hardware you want, go on ebay, buy a used on for less than 50 eur and VOILA you have a TOP NOTCH media player system and external hard drive. I guess most of you might already have one of those and install a dual boot so you can keep the old firware. I tottaly flashed the Shitty Microsoft CE firware and I'm getting a new battery. That's the first half of the story. Part 2 2 years ago I had a meniscus knee surgery from lifting weights without warm-up and with the wrong technique. At the time I could lift over 50 kilos with the turkish sit-up (a wrestling exercise) and I had just bought a full set of kettlebels (girya in Russian) instead of dumbells so I thought I'd give it a go with 12 kilos ONLY just for a test.... Result of wrong tech: I collapsed, my knee locked and luckily I was early in the movement, otherwise the weight could have fallen on me, or I could have gotten injured on any othe iron lying on the floor. The leg unlocked qucikly but eventually after progressively increased locking I had to get meniscus surgery a few months later. Since then my Judo/grappling/wrestling training has been totally iconsistent due to injuries and professional issues (work in the afternoon occasionaly). But since we are on a deep depression here in Greece, I now lack workload not time, so around May this year I thought I'd get more serious and consistent with my training. So in accordance with that AND THE GIGABEAT, I went for a jog yesterday that turned into a run/srpint and tabata training session. GOA-trance, gives me wings on the track The original Rezwalker and other fast-hard tracks from the likes of Astral, Chi-ad, Alienapa, Shakta, X-dream.... (while lifting weights I prefer groovie metal and harcore). So I put my earphones and run like a madman for more than an hour. I was so excited with my upraded Gigabeat that I tooootaly overexcerted myself, now my right leg (the injured one) is hurting from buttocks to toes, while my left is normal... which obviously means that my right leg's nervous and bone system hasn't recoverd despite the 2 years passed. Running with GOA in my ears for me is a bit like meditation: First its hard to get focused, than I start getting in the mood, different parts of my body hurt, then the pain goes aways and for a little while I'm calm, and then ZAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPP hell breaks lose, I can't stop running, I have a premise to run until a part of my body gives in, usually my legs or my lower back, I don't care if my lungs burn, I run until a muscle group starts disfunctioning, ie cramps, shakes... the problems is that if I'm in shape this can take a long time and the stadium shuts down at 10pm (I usually go there aroun 8-9pm), so it's not rare for me to run in the darkness when there's the moon. If I'm in a hurry though, after running I swtich to tabata sprinting, ie 200m sprint then 200m jog, or 100m sprint then 50m jog or sprinting then anaerobic endurance training (typical wrestling exercises) all of which require enormous amounts of energy and after less than 15 minutes I'm dead. Yesterday I actually stopped the process, fairly early, I hadn't run in a few months so although my muscles could have kept me going for much longer I thought I'd go home early... despite this my right leg still hurts... Anyway in conclusion: 1) Exercise with caution, don't overxcert yourself and always warp up, especially if you're listeing to GOA 2) GOA can help your endurance training (aerobic or anaerobic) 3) GET YOURSELF A ROCKBOX POWERED MP3 PLAYER, IT MAY BE ONE OF THE BEST INVESTEMENTS OF YOUR LIFE. That's all, my shift is finished, I'm going home limping, to rest my right leg. Tomorrow is physio training at the wrestling gym, it's a nightmare and unfortuanetly I can't put earphones on. Sorry for the long post.... my next one will probably be in a few months time, taking into consideration my habits.

I know.... an American guy told me that the Hindu writting on my chest needs something like a tone/punctuation. The problem is that with India having hundreds of dialects (plus totally different languages) things get written and spelled tottaly different from place to place, plus the tattoo artist could have been illiterate. I don't really care though! It's the spirit of the moment that matters... it makes it even better IMHO. I'm not worried about Kanji though, I have Japanese friends!

Well.... I sort of have a goa-ish tatoo... I have Indian writing on my chest which I got in a hut in south India without alternating electric current (AC), the needle was powered by the battery of a truck (DC, direct current). It says "Here Now", reversed so I can see it properly on the mirror in the morning when I wake up and wash my face/teeth and shave. Basically I want all my tattos to be visible to me, not on my back, so nothin on my bak or outer arms (triceps, elbow....). I want to get a lot of different small tattos like patchwork of my life's interests, I have already designed most at Photoshop but I want to get them after I build my house (which hopoefull will be before the end of 2013), something like a present to myself. On the center of my chest I want to put a black Uroboros/ Cycles of life/Naruto influenced tatoo. I've designed it myself! love manga! Left shoulder (the round front of the rotator cuff) I want to put a pixelated-magic mushroom... obviously a reference to psychedelics and old school video games, I might add a goa touch to it.. Right shoulder (the round front of the rotator cuff) a pixelated dragonball... Again a referece to manga and old school video games... When I was a kid I was the president of the Greek Dragonball fan club (Dragonball Hellas) Top of my belly (arch under the chest) I want to put the delphic E which is like this "3Ε" .... And write "Gnothi S'eauton" (Know thyself) and "Miden Agan" (Never exaggerate) on each side, reversed so I can see it on the mirror. It is mentioned that it was written this way on the metope of the oracle's temple in Delphi, in Ancient Greece. A reference to ancient Greek philosophy. Unfortunanetly the delphic E is also misused and abused by the Greek far right political parties, but I have nothin to do with them. On the top of 1 foot a Half Greek half brazilian flag and write JJB (stands for Jiu Jitsu Brasileiro) and the other foot a Greek and Japanese flag with the Japnese characters for Kodokan Judo. Reference to my passion for grappling arts (Wrestling, Judo, Jiu Jitsu). Thats's all for now! Hey techosomy... what's the deal with all the DRI logos.... I missed them 3 months ago when they were playing in Athens, didn't find it out and noone told me either.

We had a very nice party at Samaka beach bar (@ Psatha beach 100 km from Athens, near Korinth) on Sunday with Joti as our guest DJ. Joti played (amongst many new tracks) 5-6 remixes of his Psychaos tracks with a more modern sound/bass, not fullonish though, the most distinctive being Chaos to Order, the other tracks I wasn't really sure about but they were definettly ~2000 Psychaos tracks. The most interesting thing though was that he was playing a track and I went and asked "Is that ManMadeMan-The legend (classic yet underrated tune IMHO) remixed?" and he replied "No dude, this is unreleased, haven't even finished it yet but you are right, it's old-school meets new-school". We also spoke a bit at the end of the party and he said that he is preparing a series of EPs that he calls Psychaos 2.0, 12 years after his last Psychaos release. Don't know if this is common knowledge, but I thought I'd pass some news i haven't read elsewhere!

For joggin/running: Transwave above all!!!! the Original Rezwalker gives me wings on the track For weight lifting: Hardcore (Madball, Terror, Hatebreed, sick of it all...), Groovish metal (Down, Pantera, BLS, Sepultura, Machine Head...) and some NU metal. Basically slow, hard Rock and Metal with groove (no Punk,Thrash, Death elements)....... and Messhugah, because the are geniuses.

Hi guys, after FINALLY having a government in Greece, I can relax and begin planning my summer vacations with my girl... I guess Central Europe isn't really what most people think for "Summer holidays" but I live only 5 minutes from the sea and less than an hours drive to some lovely beach bars, so the "sun and the sea" is my summer routine, so I seek other stimuli. I know we've got a few people in the forum from those countries (Austria and Hungary), where inter-cirty travel is really easy, so I'm just looking for some local knowledge on what to do while there. Not just for parties... just anything really, I enjoy a lot of different things, from trance, getting drunk and hiking to ballet and musicals. I don't know my exact dates yet but I will be the first 15 days of July. My plan is 5 days in Vienna, 3 Days in Bratislava and 5 days in Budapest.... not necessarily in that order and not necessarily only in those cities, I wouldn't mind taking a day trip to another city or some natural landmark that is close and worth visiting. AND BEFORE YOU START ALL THE JOKES ABOUT GREEKS BEING BANKRUPT AND HOW I CAN AFFORD SUCH A TRIP............ I'LL ANSWER IT MYSELF: 1) Flights to Vienna are free... I've been collecting miles on my Lufthansa Miles and More program for 5 years, so now on these difficult economic time it's the perfect time to use them 2) I've got a friend in Wien so I'll stay at his place while there 3) The HUF is really cheap against the euro 4) We are not unempolyed (although my GFs salary has been slashed 40% and mine 10%) 5) I work in a bank so I've got plenty of credit, I'm good at financial planning and even better at budget travelling Finally, Austrians and Slovaks should be happy that I'm pulling my Euros from under my matress and returning them to the lending source!

The first time you realized psytrance was the shit
Trunksan replied to Geostigma's topic in General Psytrance
No. I actually met one of her roomates during the demonstrations in Athens ths summer and he told me that she has a child with her then-boyfriend-now husband Except for that, Nortumbria Uni used to have psy nights once every few months, I even bumped into people that I had met at Samotrhaki. I also, vaguly remember me being in a warehouse for a psy party and the copers coming with a dog, but despite the fact that there were drugs everywhere the dog seemed more concerned with waving its tail and running around rather than any serious work (locating drugs), it looked like it was having a great time...... wierd. P.s It's wierd that I reply after 20 days, I rarely switch on my pc or the TV these days, all the news concerning Greece are too depressing and I prefer to remain ignorant and mind my own business rather than being bombarded with all the endless negative news. -
I coincidently found a very famous Greek-Italian model/actress that is/was into psytrance... Dorothea Mercouri http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1001446/bio. She recently did an ad with Monica Belluci for Martini and even now that she is 38ish walks the catwalk as she has done for the past 20 years. I was watching a 1996 report/documentary on youtube, from a Greek journalist, about the what-was-then-called "Rave Generation", which now would be called "the early Goa/Psy trance scene of Athens" and on youtube comments they point out that at around 17:22 Dorothea Mercouri appears making a statement (as a random clubber of course not as an international model). She must have been 21-22 at the time. Anyway, I remembered this thread and came to post about it.

The first time you realized psytrance was the shit
Trunksan replied to Geostigma's topic in General Psytrance
97-98 My first time listening to psy was a mp3 disc someone gave me around 98-99 (last years at high school) that had a lot of dance music in. At that time club-trance (Digweed, Oaenfold ..) was becoming very popular so I realy digged the cd. My favourite tracks though were Astral Projection - Kabalah and People can fly, although I had internet at that time, I didn't bother to look for music and artists etc, I was busy with studying and sports although I really liked the electronic/dance music played at radios Fast forward 2001 I go to uni in England and I start going to a great little club in Newcastle called Foundation, which plays trance on Friday nights and house/prog on Satrudays(Abasio must know it since I think he lived in Newcastle). Everyone is on pills, so one night I also try XTC (Dave Seaman was playing) and I also have my photo taken and printed on Mixmag. A Greek girl at Spanish langauge class comes up to me and says in Greek.... - "Hey you little shit, I saw your pic at Mixmag" (He called me a little shit because I was 17 and she was 25+) Me: What? - There's a pic of you at Mixmag from Dave Seaman's night..... so you dig trance? Wanna come with us to London, we are going down south for a party the weekend... ? Me: OK! (I obviously bought the mag as well) So we go to London and the party is Reefer Decree at the EQ warehouse... ....I was totally blown away by the whole experience, the music, the people, the deco, the drugs. Went we returned back from the party I franticly started downloading and listening to stuff, at the begining I digged a lot of the full-on (astrix, alien project, neyromotor..) and everything with a fat bassline but quickly, through this and other sites, I found out al the lovely stuff that was/is out there: Goa, Prog, Minimal. In fact, the guys that I went to London with, were all into the dark/minimal/tech-trance that was very popular at the time (2001-2004), I never really liked it back then but I now I appreciate it much more. The same year I went to London for Psychaos, Logic Bomb, Dave Monroe, Raja Ram and Samothraki the same summer. Although to be honest I was a noob music-wise at Samothraki, I had no clue which were the good acts and from what I've told I missed great sets from Koxbox, Jaia (alhough hallucinogen was playing at the same time and everyone was at the main stage, as I)... but I did have some excellent moments with Pleiadians, GMS, MWNN, Ticon and others that I don't know who they were since I didn't know half the acts back then. Here comes the funny part: I come to Greece for Xmas (before samothraki) and I tell my friends from school about this new music called Psy-Trance and this whole scene blah blah and the drugs....... and they burst into laughter. They say: Dude we've been going to psy parties for the past 5 years, even private events but we never told you because we didn't think you'd like it and you never did any drugs. In fact I later found out that some of the guys that are older than me had been into the scene since 93-95 and they tell me stories of private parties at the beach or the mountains, the DJs where not famous back then and they hosted them at their houses for a few days. The cops had no idea of this music and they were really free to host events. - One guy was telling me how he snorted cocaine with Max from Etnica from a vinyl - A girl how Gus Till met his wife at one of their events and also she stayed with Goa Gill in Evoia (an island in Greece) a for a few days - Another guy (only a year older than me), a drummer, with who we are very good friends now, was invited to DJ at a school party when he was 14, and he had just bought Prana - Geomantik on vinyl and he was playing it all night and everyone was WTF..... This guy has a MASSIVE vinyl collection that is spread all over Greece, he has no idea where the records are, he just gave them to people and never got them back. - Finally, another guy, very good DJ, had a MASSIVE DAT collection, with TONS of unreleased stuff, which artsts gave him when they came to Greece to play. All was stolen when he was at the army and they stole his car. He never found the car or the DATs. So the music was all around me for many years but never took notice. I wish I had the chance to have been to all the great parties in Athens, they tell me that between 96-2003 (2002-3 being the climax with Samothraki) the GOA scene was massive in Athens. -

Havne't written a review since Filteria's sceond album.... This is some superb stuff it's old-school yet refreshing at the same time... VERY VERY GOOD!

My phone cost 8 euros.

2 - terminal fantasy, middle parts of the song I find very irritating, the melody gets too cheesy with very little variation The Rest of the album is very good though, both for home listening and partying. Especially 4 - mental escape reminds me a lot of Transwave. Very good effort! Some of the best I've heard the past 2 years!

Wooowww! How did I miss this whole thing????? I've just been visiting the music section and totally missed this whole passing of the torch.... Anyway, I would have voted for the most proficient it IT. Psynews has been a great source for finding out about music and meeting people in real life (not just online). I also put myself available for any kind of technical work like: Html, PHP, graphics (photoshop and animations) If you need something done send me a msg I'll probably be able to help design stuff
