Maths is overwhelmingly versatile. Highly recommend that one. Rene is great fun. So many sequences and modes to explore.

Nice write up. Max is great fun if you get a good introduction. Even simple things, like knowing the math is done from right to left, can get a little trippy once your patch gets complex. An alternative is Pure Data. Its open source yet not nearly as polished as Max is.
