  1. Artist: Blue Planet Corporation Date: 02-08-00 By: Children Q: Hi Gabriel ! Can we ask you a few questions about your group ? A: Hi ! I’m sorry for the language and the write, but I’m french ! To answer to your first question : it’s a pleasure for me, it’s only my second interview since I started to produce trance music in 1993 ! Q: Ok, so let's start the interview : First of all, how would you describe Goa music in few words ? A: I don’t want to describe any music because you enclose it in a style and it stops the natural evolution of this music. It’s what happened when people started to speak about Goa in 1994/1995. Before, at the end of 80’s, when I started to discover techno music, there were no style but a fucking every day changing music. There was no limit, no structure, but only the same kick moving your body with strange noise. And today, you have trance, techno, house, jungle… What does it mean ? Nothing, because every style needs another one, electronic or not, to exist. You can see the trance music is changing today with the last album of Koxbox, or the Shpongle album. The most important thing is to feel emotion with electronic and sample sounds. After you can say « this is techno, breakbeat or this is Goa », but it doesn't mean that it’s good. But if you want that I describe Goa Music, I just can say that it’s a Psychedelic music for dancing ! Q: Is Goa your favourite music style ?Or do you prefer Trance ? A: Like I said before, I just like music that gives me emotion and dream. It’s like a drug : you can travel with. And I don’t know exactly the difference between Goa and Trance. Goa is a trance music. Astral Projection has remixed a title of Trilithon in their last album called Trance Dance, an old trance track. Q: How and when did you start to make Trance/Goa ? A: I released a first maxi in 1993 on a french label called U.F.K. I was making music since 1989 with few equipment. I was listening to 80’s electronic stuff. Q: Are you currently preparing a new album ?When do you project to release it ? A: I will certainly make another album for Flying-Rhino. I’m waiting to buy more equipment like a big computer to change my sound and have a better production. Q: Your favourite Blue Planet Corporation Track ? A: Perhaps Alidade. Q: Your favourite Goa Group, Album, Top 5 Goa Tracks ? A: My favourite album is Shpongle. It’s an incredible fucking sounds album. The most imagination, beauty and emotion I have ever heard. My favourite groups list is very long : Sven Väth, The Infinity Project, Juno Reactor, Koxbox, Atmos, Slinky Wizard, X-Dream… Favourite Tracks : « sentences to heaven » Jaïa, « Tribute » Etnica, « Green sky » Earth Nation, « Clone 3 » The Pollinator, « Angelic Particles » Hallucinogen. Q: Where does your inspiration come from ? A: It comes from the music I heard. I always need to hear something that make me feel good vibe, and try to reproduce this feeling with my sound, my vision. Q: Future projects ? A: I want to make a more trance dancefloor project, something more hard for the party, with my brother Sebastien will call « Red Planet ». I begin to work too with a friend something more commercial with a singer… we like Chemical Brother, Underworld and British pop ! Q: More generally : what do you think of the future of Psychedelic Trance music style ? A: I don’t see the future of psychedelic trance music, but I see the future of electronic music and I think it’s very good. We can today produce an album at home ! It’s a big revolution ! Thanks to a computer, more and more people can express with music, video, internet…It’s the future ! Thanks a lot from all the Goa people community, and ... give us more great stuff as soon as you can ;-)

    Artist: BLT

Artist: BLT Date: 11-03-00 By: Children Q: First of all, what does "BLT" mean ? A: BLT stands for Bacon, Lettuce & Tomato ( preferrably untoasted with maio ) Club sandwich. Q: How and when did you start to make Goa ? A: I've been into trance music since 1992, when I have visited Goa first time. The great oneness of this music and it's influence on people made many other genres of music less interesting for me. Still, whilst listening to trance I would play some blues on my guitar till the first synth came into my house at my birthday in the beginning of 1997 - then the switch was made.. I started my way as electronic music producer.. Q: Do you project to release a new album after "Presence" ? When would it be released ? A: Well.. hard to say for sure what will follow 'Presence'.. I think the interest in a sequel already exists, and I've been working really hard this summer to make quite a few trax which are unreleased material, and for now I enjoy playing them along with the album on gigs.. I can say that the BLT style stays, and I try to add a more 'freestyle' feeling to the trax, plus the production that improves from track to track.. So.. there is nothing exact I can tell u about at the mo. except of couple of ambient/chill-out/tekno/dub things that were written in a collaboration with a very special artist that goes by the name ' Realistic ' - are ought to come out in DJ Eyal's new comp. on BNE real soon. Q: Let's talk about "Presence" … could you describe us its style compared to your previous album ? A: 'Presence' in it's spirit is very much close to 'Alchemic Anecdote' as my eyes can see it.. ;o) The special attention was made to make this album very high quality soundwise and IDEAwise - as there are no weaker parts in this album. An individual can like or dislike any of the trax, but it's quite hard to say that - ' well, he didn't have enough quality music so he put this inside to fill in the 70 minutes.. '. The general concept of this album is trance both minimalistic and wall of sounds, dark and happy, emotional and cold - you can find any of these here and sometimes in one track ;o) and most of all for me - it's psychedelic dance music!!! Q: Which of your own tracks do you like the best ? A: That's a tough question coz I love most of them.. If I ought to choose though, I'll go for 'Golden Slumbers' from 'Presence' for it's magik and 'Six Feet Under' which hasn't been released yet for it's tribal darkness ( with a bit of hope.. ;o) ).. Q: Your favourite psychedelic Groups & Albums ? A: There are many groups and individual artists that I like ( or liked ) during the years. The number one album that did ( and still does ) it for me is ofcourse Hallucinogen's ' Twisted '. Nowadays, my favourite acts are - KoxBox, Quirk, Spiralkind@/Spirallianz/Midi Miliz, Atmos, Domestic, Psycraft. As for the albums - KoxBox - ' The Great Unknown ', ManMadeMan - ' Lovetechnology ' and Juno Reactor's ' Shango ' would be my choice of heart at this moment. Q: Where does your inspiration come from when building a Track ? A: I guess it comes from all that I hear and see and generally happens in my life.. he he Sometimes there is NO inspiration and u just work and do the technical things till it appears again - or u just have a chillum.. ;o) But mostly.. as a non smoker - I just make up sequences till I get hooked on a groove that's original and catchy and try to develop it and then it just flows.. Q: What kind of equipment do you use to make your Tracks ? A: I move more and more to the audio side of electronic music. I use a Pentium II 400 Mhz with 256 meg ram and a Wave/8*24 Gadget Labs digital recording interface - with VST 5.01 ( which is just great.. ) Plus couple of samplers ( ASR 10 from Ensoniq and ESI 4000 from EMU ) Plus couple of synths ( Roland's JP 8000 and Novation's Supernova ). Still have some effects and compressors ( Ensoniq's DP/4+, Alesis Midiverb 4, Behringer's Composer and DBX's Digital Dynamics Processor that DOES miracles to sound ;o) ). All that goes through Mackie 24*8 mixing board and Event 20*20p monitors. Q: Future projects ? A: Just started my third year as a future Acupuncturist, so the music will have to be shantier - though I still visit the studio from time to time he he.. Q: Is there another artist you'd like to work with ? A: Well yep there are quite a few.. But the first on my list would be definitely the KoxBox dudes and Marcus 'The Delta' Maichel Q: Do you play DJ sets ? If so, what kind of stuff do you play as DJ in parties ? A: My basic look at the things is that I am no DJ though I bitmix... I am no. one promoter of what I do, and as such I DJ only stuff I have written or arranged the sound production for. My sets are good for night time as for early morning time ( altogether 2am to 7am ). Q: When & where was your best party ? And your worst one ? A: I am quite lucky to play on really good events last couple of years, and I do not have a standalone! But I'll mention all the parties made by the Nadi/Itzik/David crew - all of them were amazing - the best crowd in the most amazing nature spots u can find in Israel - U get there and u can't believe that this kind of spirit still exists in parties in Israel. One more is the OMA COMA Rosh Hashana ( Jewish New Year ) party in Tel Aviv harbour - left me completely speechless for quite a long time - brilliant rave with outstanding deco brought from overseas and some 2000 crazy people going absolutely mad... Q: One question we never asked till then, but could interest some people (cause I suppose that's the same for all labels) … from an album costing 20$, how much come in your pocket ? And how much do you get when there is one Track from you on a 20$ compilation ? A: I prefer really not to go into numbers.. I would say that one has to sell quite a lot of 20$ worth albums ( not to mention compilations ) to make a descent living* * When I say descent living I mean having food and paying the rent ;o) There is much more vibe in music making than money.. he he So, maybe it doesn't make your pockets full.. but it does fill your soul from time to time.. Thanks ;-) Thank you too and good luck with this great site!

    Artist: Biot

Artist: Biot Date: 11-07-00 By: Children Q: How and when did you start to make Goa ? A: I started making trance music in about 1991 with friends because it was the time when the first cool tracks and parties came up and we had a little equipment; i learned how to use it and in 1994 i started my solo project "biot". Q: Do you project to release a new album ? When would it be released ? A: I am working on a new album, with perhaps a vinyl single or so before that, but i dont know when this stuff will be released- probably in the next 6 month... Q: Which of your own tracks do you like the best ? A: Somehow one of the tracks that i have not done yet Q: Your favourite psychedelic Groups & Albums ? A: From the psy dance stuff, i like some old tracks of eat static, and beside that, i think the album "pocket universe" by yello is one of the coolest psychedelic albums ever. it´s not really dance ,but it sounds absolutely awesome, and i only can give anyone the advice to listen to it ! Q: Where does your inspiration come from when building a Track ? A: The impulse to make a track can come from very different things- sometimes it´s a certain sample, sometimes a track i hear and sometimes just a feeling of "speedyness" . Q: Do you prefer to make ambient or psytrance ? Because there is both styles on your albums ... A: Due to my way of making music, in many cases i can not say what a track will be in the end, sometimes it starts with a dance bassline, but after a while i find it works better at 85 bpm and so it ends as an ambient track. random is a very basic part of this project. Q: What kind of equipment do you use to make your Tracks ? A: The stuff i made the last album with was a g3 power mac,an access virus, a nord modular and a promix console, but this changes continously. Q: Future projects ? A: Pop 3000 ???-who knows... Q: Is there another artist you'd like to work with ? A: I think there are many artists i´d like to work with, perhaps in the future it will be easier because of new internet-based technologies . Q: Do you play DJ sets ? If so, what kind of stuff do you play as DJ in parties ? A: I´m not working as a dj at all, sorry. Thanks ;-)
  4. Artist: Battle Of The Future Buddhas Date: 09-23-01 with David Tingsgard By Anoebis By: Anoebis Q: Hello David, here we are again!! )) Schlabbaduerst Rekkords released 3 cd's in the mean time... On which CD did you get the best reactions ? A: On Schlab 02, cause it has the most melodic and harmonic sound! It is a morning compilation and more easily accessable than the hard stuff of Schlab 01 and 03 Q: Yes, I see... So I guess that compilation sold the most copies, right ? A: It sure did and we pressed 500 copies of it. It seems now I will be able to sell them all to different shops, many of them online shops, so maybe it will be possible to press more copies and get them distributed. I want the music to come out to the people cause I think we have something here on Schlabbaduerst! Something unique that is... Q: That's true for sure... So that means you guys will continue with making more morning-trance? Or will you still produce night-stuff like on Schlab 01 and 03 too?? A: Well we already did Schlab 01 and 03 and now we need to continue with the morningmusic. Next compilation, Schlab 04 naturally, will be filled with trancey dawn music, music that just goes on and on, is hypnotic and gives you a good feeling, an expectation of the morning to come. Then we will make Schlab 05 which will be music from the forest, more neutral music. Q: I think that's great, because we are missing the emotions in the trance-music those days ! A: Yes, I think its really important to bring in as much emotion as is possible! I like to be scared in the night and I like to laugh in the morning. Thats why the night music is so heavy and the morning music is so blissfull. Maybe I am to stuck with this idea, but no one seems to like it anymore among DJs and organizers which is strange... Q: About tha Schlab 005... You said it will be more neutral... Does that means there are ambient-tracks on it too ? A: No probably no ambient tracks, but its a good idea! Or we could make a 6th compilation with ambient and come-down music Q: So, you are planning to make the label bigger and less underground ? Do you have a certain goal ? A: We will make more morning trance, I for sure will produce more uplifting and good vibe music, music with the good old feeling from 95, but with new sounds hopefully... I dont think I want to make the label less underground, but I want to expand it and get a good distribution. The goal of the label is to make many good compilations and release all the excellent music we have here in Uppsala, Sweden. I was just thinking today about making a full-length Ka-SoL CD because they have SO many *brilliant* tracks. When I DJ 60% of my set is Ka-SoL! Q: So you are going to make back again the '95 influenced (old-school) trance... Do you think people still love this kind of stuff ? A: I *know* people still love this kind of stuff! Just check your www.psynews.org forum and there are topics almost daily about the good old sound, but the point is not to make it sound exactly like it did then. I just want the feeling back! One easy way of doing that is to not mix the bassdrum really loud, not have very hard sounds, to include some more melodies, melodies that arent cheesy ... Q: Yes, there you have a point... Did you never wanted to release minimal stuff on Schlabbaduerst RekKords ? A: Well I could release minimal stuff if we produced any minimal stuff which we don't. We make maximal on Schlabbaduerst! But some of the tracks on Schlab 04 will be quite monotonous and hypnotic... Q: Héhé, maximal trance, sounds good ! A: YEAH! I was asked if I played minimal before a gig in New Zeeland on new years eve. No I dont I said, I play Maximal Q: Will you only release stuff of Upsalla artists on Schlabbaduerst ? Or are there any artists abroad with the same sound as you guys ? A: There arent many other artists that I know of that share our sound, there are some excellent greek producers, Interstellar Overdrive, Astronomix, Dimo, Schizophrenic Society and a few others that sound a bit like us and I love their work, but I have no contact with them. And we have *so* much music here in Uppsala so its enough for many more compilations, and its fun to work with your friends. Its still a hobby and I hope it will remain that Q: Ok... Are you planning any label-parties in the future ? A: Not really because of the party situation in Sweden. We cant make any indoor parties. We make one outdoor party every year and I guess you could call it a label party because most people involved are with Schlabbaduerst! Q: Explain why it is impossible to do parties indoor? It seems to be a bad police there A: Yeah, well its the attitude of the swedish politicians and the swedish police that has destroyed a whole scene not just for the trance people but for the techno people as well. The police stop all the parties they can find and its extremely difficult to make a party without them being there harassing people for drugs. Its just a bad situation that force us to go underground. Anti from Spiral Trax has done a good job with the Arvika festival, but it had to end at 3 in the night. Q: Luckely the forests in Sweden are big enough for underground-parties, right ? A: Yes the forests are big and nice We make a party with 6 kms to the nearest neighbour and they kind of like it so thats cool. But if you disturb just one person you can count on the cops showing up. Q: How many people are running Schlabbaduerst RekKords? Or is it just you "playing" alone ? A: Its basically me thats doing all the planning and all take care of the contacts with different people. Then its Krister from Ka-SoL doing the mastering and he has some ideas as well and contributes with money hehe, and then theres Robin who helped with practical stuff with copying the CDs etc. Q: So are you DJ-ing more now because of the label? Don't you start to spread the Schlabbaduerst-word around ? A: I think the Buddhas always had a small group of people who liked our music around the world, we started spreading our music in 96 when we went to Goa and people heard our music and liked it. Then I think it has been gradually growing but very slow which is alright for me. I dont get to DJ more, but I hope to get more gigs in the future. I have DJd some more thanks to friends and Matt at BooM! (who is also a friend hehe) Q: ok... Héhé, to all the Belgians, he will be here in november if everything turns out ok... A: Of course it will turn out OK! Q: You can never be sure, cuz we have stupid authorities too here ! )) Anyway, so what do you think about the mp3/FTP-scene ? A: Its basically the same as the DAT copying scene that existed before, and still exist but is not as big. People have always been swapping music, now its just on a bigger scale. I dont care if people copy our music as long as they dont try and sell it, that pisses me off. If more people hear our music its better cause maybe we get a live gig or I get a DJ-gig or whatever. Q: Is all the copying killing Goa-labels, or not ? A: I'm not the right person to answer that, I dont know much about the sales at the moment... And I dont care much about labels, the individual artists are more important and they have to be payed! Q: Schlabbaduerst is producing their own style... is there any reason for that? It's clearly made for forests-parties, right ? A: Yes, the music was always made with the thought that it would be played at an outdoor party, an outdoor party in Sweden, with people in psychedelic states of mind... A party somewhere in the middle of the forest. The forest surrounds us in Sweden and there is a great big lore with trolls and elves living in the forest. We learned everything we know about psychedelic trance on the outdoor forest parties of Örebro. We basically carry on the tradition from Örebro, from the music that was played there, from the vibe that was present there in 97-98 when those parties were the best in the world! So theres this special very psychedelic vibe in the music, and the very sound of the tracks is produced for being played outdoors. Outdoors there are (naturally enough) no walls to make the sound bounce. So you can add more effects, make the sound bigger, the bassdrum doesnt sound killer hard either which makes for a smoother sound, even though our sound is pretty hard admittedly... And there is also the swedish melancolia that gives the melodies a certain eerie harmorny Q: I also wondered something, you guys always use lots of Swedish names on your cd's... Maybe it's good to explain some of them!! )) For example... What means "Kedves Utasunk"? And that Spanabattl... boogie... )) A: Kedves utasunk is hungarian haha! it means "dear passengers" or something like that... But "sunk" means sloppy or slobby (bad) in swedish so it sounds fun haha... and "Spännbälteboogie" means... I dont know...Belt tighten boogie I guess! Its just a weird name, doesnt mean anything! Q: Ok... you guys are crazy...;o) what means Inte Ett Oga Torrt ? or is it also strange, Schlabbaduerst-language ? A: No it means "not one dry eye". Its referring to the track that very ironically is seen as a very sweet track so when people hear it they will start to cry... NOT!!! Oh they played that sweet track and not one eye was left dry hahaha! Q: Yes, indead, it's extremely harsh... Can you give us some more info about the new Upsalla-artist called Marchaos ? A: Yeah hes an old friend that I introduced to industrial music when we were teens and he introduced me to death and trash metal so we share the same musical background and he started making music a few years ago and he doesnt have any limitations and has a really fresh way of looking at music, trance music that is very maximal stuff indeed! Q: So you have death and Trash-metal influences... so why aren't there any guitars in the tracks ? A: Because most guitar sounds really sound dry and boring when you sample them! Its just repetetive and very boring. But maybe if a live guitarist would play something it would be different. We have one track called "Carmageddon" which has guitars, and its heavy, but a bit boring Ok, thank you David for the interview and we hope to hear more Schlabbaduerst stuff soon! Bom Ok thanks, you will hear more from Schlabbaduerst soon for sure! BOM!
  5. Artist: Battle Of The Future Buddhas Interview Date: 02-29-00 By: Anoebis Q: How, why & when did you guys start to produce music? A: We started about ten years ago, we borrowed a Roland D-20 from a classmate, then followed up with computer samples and started buying some equipment. We used to make industrial hardcore music, like electronic body music. Thats why our sounds is so heavy. For a long time we only had a Roland W-30 Workstation and a Korg Wavestation and we made some uplifting trance/house. Then we found "goatrance" in late 94 and fell completely in love with the music. Q: Why do you make Goa-Trance? A: Well its simply the best dance music around. Used to be better though...We have made all kinds of dance music but we find the 145 bpms the best speed and we simply love the energy. Trance music at its best is unbeatable. We dont consider our music to be pure "goatrance" anymore though...sometimes we simply call it dance music. Q: How Would you describe Goa music in a few words? A: Well it used to be powerful, melodic, sexy, psychedelic, over the top, spiraling, fantastic, kicking, harmonic, ugly, thoughtful, inspiring...etc just like the best in life, like a kick, like a rush, this was the feeling in goa in 96-97 but now we are too old hehe (25...) to feel that rush anymore...the only times we get rushes are when we´re staning on a stage and a 1000 people are screaming and dancing like crazy to our music. Q: Where do you guys get your inspiration? A: From life, parties, music, movies etc...We dont listen much to trance music nowadays, we mainly get our influences from other kinds of music. We have made some new tracks that sound like industrial disco music...trance music is disco to us really hahaha only more modern...so we sometimes say we make "freak disco music", as well as dance music hehe. But ultimately we get inspiration from the last party we went to and we go down the studio and try to make the sound of the best tracks we heard on the dancefloor...and since we all have been using psychedelics the music always sound weird in our ears, and the music from our studio thus comes out weird too...simple really...What you can hear in our tracks is what we hear on the parties, only if you heard the same tracks we heard in a party it would sound totally different... Q: What is your favourite track of Battle Of The Future Buddha's? A: Always the last track we made, if we were happy with it...For now its probably a new track called "Örebro Freak Factory" which is fucking industrial and extremely hard even though it has a melody that, if it was played with a different sound could fit in a commercial track...we always like strong melodies mixed with a lot of noise...Other good tracks that stood out over the years are Filoti, Neuroglider (which is sometimes called Tigerhill, there is a mixup...) Tranceportamental, Leave the World Behind, Domestic Bliss and new ones called Demonoiser and Shining Pigs. Q: What's your favorite Goa Group ,Album, Top 5 Goa Tracks? A: Probably Hallucinogen. Its impossible to list any tracks, but good artists are also Juno Reactor, Nick Taylor, Psycho Disco and all the unknown great artists who never got any attention but who made some pretty fantastic music over the years and you never knew who they were...respect. Q: Is it hard to produce music with 4?? Don't you guys have conflicts when you make music? A: Lol...(laughing out loud) well we always fight in the studio. But usually it is me (David) or Magnus who makes the most part of the track and then the others fill in whats missing or do a remix or the final mixing or whatever, add bits and pieces, remove something. Our creative process is very chaotic, just like our studio that always is a hell of a mess and sometimes we do nothing but fight and wrestle, drool and make weird noises...its getting better with age though...and we always say what we think, like hey thats shit take that away or I´ll kill you, or hey thats really wicked lets keep that... Q: What do you think of the Goa-scene at the moment? A: Completely dead. There is no energy left in the scene, at least not that we have noticed. It has to do with the situation in Sweden I suppose, there used to be lots of clubs back in 95, 96,97 but now the cops are stopping all the good parties, so we have to go underground and make outdoor parties in the summer. They are the best parties so we dont complain but it would be nice to go to clubs in the winter as well. As for the situation in Goa its absolutely boring, we heard this year was the worst ever, but even last year the "goa-spirit" wasnt there anymore, people arent much into strong psychedelic music like ours, they prefer easy standard absolutely boring happy trance. The people that arent into psychedelics call our music "mushroom music" as if there would be something wrong with it!!?? Mushrooms rock...Theres some nice things going on in Greece and Portugal, the scene is more fresh there and more alive. People havent had any bad trips yet so its more filled with energy... Q: What are your future projects? A: Well...as a matter of fact no record label is willing to release our music so we have started our own label, called Schlabbaduerst ReKkords and we will release our first compilation CD with only psychotic music from Uppsala, the city we live in in Sweden, with ourselves and various sideprojects with peole like Ka-SoL, Subcouds etc...The first CD will be strong, hard, dark and psychedelic and it will be followed up with another CD that is more morning music, softer and more melodic, but still psychedelic for sure...Then we will make a new full-length CD with only brand new BotfB music and then one with Ka-SoL as well. Check our homepage out in a few weeks and you will find out how to order it http://m1.182.telia.com/~u18200010/Buddhas.htm In terms of music, our music is getting more extreme, harder, more industrial and even more psychedelic, and we like to use influences from all kinds of music, like we sampled the old soul-hero Curtis Mayfielf in one track and used it. Sounds like someone is turning on a radio with some completely different music in the background. We will also try to make some electro, jungle, dub and house cause we love all kinds of electronic music thats groovy and danceable. Thanks a lot from all the Goa people community, and ... give us more great stuff as soon as you can ;-)!! Thank you Anoebis. Keep dancing.
  6. Label: Aurinko Date: 10-28-00 By: Mindbender Introduction: Markus from Aurinko Records by Mindbender in Gloria in Helsinki, Finland, just before a 13 Productions party "Planet of Beauty". Q: What does the future behold? What new records are you releasing? A: In two weeks we will release our 6th 12", which will be from Spies (a French group). One side will have a track called "Wide Shot" and the other side will have a remix of it by Kris Kylven. In some 8 weeks we will release our 7th 12" and it will be by Four Carry Nuts. The A-side will be a killer track called Lucy (male), the female version is already released on Bim's label [Medium Records]. The other side will have a track made in co-operation with Four Carry Nuts and Dino Psaras and it will be called DDT. In January 2001 we will release a CD/LP compilation called Catcher with eight new tracks from Tim Shuldt, Spies, Faithealers, Gilgamesch, 3.Turn, Dark Soho, Four Carry Nuts and Psychaos vs. Four Carry Nuts. In spring 2001 we will release the debut album from Four Carry Nuts. Q: How about on a more general level, what will be your style of music in the future? A: Aurinko will keep their style. We might get even more hard and with more guitar sound. Maybe sooner or later we will even add vocals to our tracks. But we will continue what we do. Q: Where does the story of Aurinko Records start? What made you establish a record company and how did the beginning go? A: I was together with Tim [schuldt] in the same school. A bit after we left school, Tim started producing trance. At that time I was into seeing concerts and collecting records. In December 1996, I said to Tim: "What about we start together a label?" and so it began. At this time we were both 23 and didn't have much knowledge on how to release records. The first months of 1997 we used getting information about running a label. In the summer of 1997 the first 12" was released. It was by B.E.T.H. (Tim Shuldt, Dino Psaras and Steve Ronan). Q: How did you come up with the name Aurinko? A: Aurinko is Finnish for sun. I'm half Finnish myself. When I was 18, I took a tattoo of a sun on my right shoulder. To me, it's a memory of my teenage years. [Markus also has a tattoo of the Aurinko Records logo on his left shoulder]. We needed a name for the label and I suggested to Tim the name Aurinko and Tim liked the idea. Q: Could you give us a short history of your label? A: In summer 1997 we released the 12" by B.E.T.H. It was a successful debut. In winter 1997 we released the Cychedelic Punk EP, including Donuts from Four Carry Nuts, which is still one of my favourite tracks. In winter 1998, we released the CD/LP Score. In the beginning of 2000 the Tortured Brain 12" came out, then in summer 2000 the Four Carry Nuts 12", Bausubstanz [in English, basic ingredient], and in autumn 2000 the Faithealers 12". Q: How about your growth? Have you grown and what do you think about it? A: Aurinko has always been Tim and me, and it has always been a hobby, not a full-time job. We're doing this semi-professionally. I work in Munich for Cosmophilia and Tim goes around playing live and works in the studio. When we're not releasing anything, we're just looking around for stuff to release. When we are releasing something, then we have more work. Now, for the last 2 months, we've been three as Gilgamesch [Detlef Funder] has joined the label. We've also been working a bit harder on the label lately. Detlef is helping us also because we are quite occupied by our other jobs. In short, we haven't really grown. Q: How would you describe the music that you release? A: [Markus laughs and asks me to describe the music that Aurinko releases, which I do. For the reader, I'll give Markus' opinion, because it was actually the same as my opinion] Hard, dark, psychedelic and full-on. Q: What artists do you have under your wings? Any upcoming, never heard, killer artists? A: Aurinko works with Tim Shuldt, Four Carry Nuts, Dino Psaras, Joti Sidhu, Spies, Faithealers and now for the first time with Dark Soho. Nobody is under Aurinko's wings. I we like something, we ask if the artist would like to release something under Aurinko. If someone likes to work with us, we work together. If someone doesn't like to work with us, then we don't work together. Of course it depends also on the quality of the music that they make. About new, upcoming artists, let's see what happens. It would be cool to have a good surprise. Q: What artists would you like to work with? A: I would like to work with Skin from Skunk Anansie. She is one of my favourite singers. From the trance scene, we are already working with the artists that we like to work with. Q: What other labels do you appreciate? A: I appreciate Mute Records (most famous artist of Mute is Depeche Mode), with labelhead Daniel Miller. I respect them because they started as an underground label and with good artists they had success and today they are a very big label. From the trance-labels, we have a close connection with Atomic. Tim Shuldt sometimes releases under Atomic and sometimes Dino Psaras and Joti Siddhu release stuff under Aurinko, though they usually work with Atomic. We've also arranged a great event together and we are planning to continue this co-operation and maybe put up another party together. I also have a lot of respect for Yaniv from Hadshot, 'cause he's doing it all by himself and he has still released a lot of stuff. I think something like 40 or 60 records. Also worth mentioning are Medium Records and Spiral Trax. Q: What are your favourite records and artists? A: Depeche Mode, Skunk Anansie, Marilyn Manson, Monster Magnet, Bomfunk MC's and Madonna. As a teenager I liked Sisters of Mercy a lot. From trance I my favourites are Tim, for sure, Four Carry Nuts, Cydonia and Nerve (a new project from MOS.). My favourite track is Tim's new track, Pale. It's going to be released on our next compilation. Q: Do you DJ? If so, what type of music do you play? A: I'm not really a DJ. I've DJ'ed sometimes here and there, when people ask me to come and play. Than I play trance, industrial and metal. Q: Does Aurinko arrange parties? If you do, how have they been and which was the best one? A: We make events sometimes. The best party arranged was with Atomic in London, the 31st of March this year. We've had several events in Germany. One was an open-air in 96 with over a thousand people, with DJ's Bim, Riktam and Bansi and Tim playing live. Another good one was 23rd April 2000 in Cult, which was a label party. DJ's were Bim and Joti Sidhu. We had live acts from Four Carry Nuts and Johan Bley. A funny thing there was when Johan played drums when Four Carry Nuts played Donuts. One forthcoming party that I'm looking forward to is in January 2001 near Munich, with Four Carry Nuts live and Dino Psaras as a DJ. I hope that the party tonight will be the best one ever. Q: Tell us about the best party you've been to. A: I've been to so many parties that I can't say which one was the best. I hope tonight will be the best. Q: How about the worst one? A: Well…umm… One funny one, was when my parents left the me alone in the house for the first time when I was 15 years old. I invited friends over, got drunk, fell asleep in bath tub, with the water running. The water had overflowed all over when I woke up and there was water all over the place. There were holes burned in the furniture from cigarettes and people had been throwing up on the carpet. Then I tried to clean up this mess in panic as my parents were coming home the next day. Q: What do you think about the psy-trance scene globally? Should psy-trance become more popular or is it better underground? A: I think that it's getting bigger and bigger. There are more artists, more labels, more parties. Sooner or later there will be artists in the charts. Q: What do you think about the musical evolution of psy-trance itself? A: There are some acts that have made the music for years now and their production has got more professional. Meanwhile, the variety and different styles have increased. When psychedelic trance started, there were only few people involved. Now as there are a lot of people involved, there are many more styles, parties and record releases. I think psy-trance has evolved and is still doing good. Q: Do you have any advice to those, like me, who dream of setting up their own label some day? Or practical advice to those who are already in the process or even just got the company set up? A: First of all, you need the willpower to do this. When things are not going well and you don't get positive feedback, you need to believe in what you are doing and to be strong. You should decide whether you want to release music that you like or music that sells good. The best if of course if you can release music that you like and which sells good. Extremely important is to have good distribution. And you also need money for the start. But in the end, it is most important to have good music. Q: Finally, do have anything you'd like to say to the Aurinko fans out there? A: [Markus asks me if I think there are any Aurinko fans. I assure him that there are, because I even know a few.] Thanks a lot for supporting us. I hope that we have one day the chance to make a tour with our artists. For this it would be very helpful to have good organisers in different countries who have good stages, good equipment, and especially, good soundsystems. Anybody who wants to contact us is welcome to do so. Just go to the guestbook at our site or send us an e-mail. I hope that you will like the new compilation. Thanks a lot! 7. Artist: Aureole (Ivana Aleksandrovic) Date: 01-25-03 By: Implant Q: Introduce Yourself to our visitors? A: I come from a small place in Serbia, but now I live in Belgrade. Q: Tell us something about your musical background? What kind of music you listen and like beside trance? A: I'm into music since i was 6 and i'm on college right now. Deeply rooted culture and deep roots of classical music were always a weight and a limiter. But when I was about 14 I started to experiment. I don't listen to Classical music...very litle nowdays. It don't moves me enough, but I can say that I don't listen trance neither. Trance has become somehow...not, what it was before. I listen to D'n'B, electro, ambient and very oftenly ethno music. Q: How you decided to start making trance music? A: Long time ago...I was totaly impressed by the effect trance had on masses and with the energy coming out of parties. I wanted to be part of all that...and i wasn't feeling fulfilled any more with only listening. Btw. i'm annoyed with passivity. And after that, beside partying we started to make music, me and my big friend Alexandar. Q: Where does your inspiration come from? A: I simply sit down to work...and the stuff i create moves me forward and gives me ideas. Q: How do You build up a track? A: I often start with a single idea and that thing leads me to a completely another direction. On the end it happens to be something I least expected. Very oftenly I make a sample which I can't addore and it's totally not fitting... And guess what? I use it. I'm always working from the scratch. Basics for my work are bass line and kick. After that I build forward. Q: You recently have released your first LP, called "Oreol" on "Bazooka12" (Cosmophilia's sub-label). Describe it to us. What kind of psy-trance is it? A: I definitely can't declare it. Tracks are made at '99 but i haven't send them to noone. I was waiting for something. Back than it was some deep-trance on two tracks and two were softly melodic with my vocal on them. Q: What kind of equipment do you use? A: I work only on PC. I'm using microphone and oftenly recording various samples. A bunch of software too... Q: What are your future plans? Any collaborations? A: Just working...nothing special. I let things to go with their own flow. Just like the music I make. Q: Would you like to make tracks with some particular artists? A: No. I like to create by myself. Maybe if there's some girl...men have these anoying characteristics which iritate me when we work. Q: What do you think of the Psy-scene at the moment? A: I'm dissapointed...but, I must say that I don't follow it enough. Q: As an artist from Serbia, is it harder for You to make it big on trance scene? Or do you think that only quality counts? A: Quality above everything. (As an artist from Serbia...)...It's related only with success in your own country. Serbia is a very specific place, in both, positive and negative context. And...after all anyone can send their promo cd and be successfull. Thank you very much!
  8. Label: Atomic Date: 10-12-00 By: Children Q: Can you give us a brief history about the growth of your label during the last years? A: Atomic has been learning about all sorts of things since it began and we are still learning - about the music, the business - but we are much wiser now and things have become a lot more organised. We are looking forward to the coming year as we feel everything is falling into place, we have some exciting new projects and releases ahead including launch of Sub Atomic (downtempo/breaks/beats) & Atomic Reactor (Atomic & Juno Reactor) labels, new artists and office. Q: Could you describe us the style of trance you want to favour to be released under your label? A: Atomic believes that regardless of media label or musical genre and if the material is quality then it could find its way on to the label. As we expand we hope to incorporate many styles and hope our audience will open their minds as well !!! Q: Could you give us a general survey of the main artists who currently release stuff under your label? A: We could mention many it is an open door, Dino Psaras, Steve Ronan, Marc Van Der Vlugt, Joti Sidhu, Xavier Morel & Iain Rive are constantly working on projects in the studio for atomic they are an important part of our A&R as they play all over the world gathering new tracks meeting artists new and old, they also all have different styles but can also work well together. Q: Is there an artist projecting to release a new album with your label? We had echoes from a debut Four Carry Nuts one … are there other artists too? Many people here are waiting for new Cydonia, Tim Schuldt & Total Eclipse albums for exemple. A: At present there is no such album in the pipeline though Dino has suggested he would like to do one next year. Q: Whose artists would you like to work with? A: There are so many artists we would like to work with - Rabbit in the Moon/Timo Maas/Gus Till/Purple/ Kruder Dorfmeister/Cass & Slide/Oliver Lieb/Der Dritte Raum/Adam Freeland/Midfield General/Scott Hardkiss/Massive Attack........the list is endless Q: Is there another particular label you appreciate a lot for its musical orientation? A: Studio K7 in Germany have got it really sorted the DJ Kicks series is very good + Soma in Scotland have done really well as an independent + Skint cause some of our mates work there and they used to be relly skint. Q: Could you give us a TOP 5 of the Psychedelic Trance Albums you liked the most? A: Dragonfly - Order Odonata comp's/ A concept in Dance (XL), Marc Van Der Vlugt- 'Behind the Scenes' (Atomic DAT). Flying Rhino/ Blue Room & Transient have all produced good compilations + Atomic have done one or two!!!. Q: Do you organize parties with your label? A: Yes, the biggest problem here is good venues and it also takes a huge amount of time and effort. We have toyed with the idea of a monthly night though for the time being it looks like one off parties, there will be a album launch party for Marc's new comp, we would like to do one in a snowboard resort. Rik who works part time at the label has a night in Brighton called 180 degrees, Purple is resident and Steve Ronan/Dino/Joti/Marc VDV often play. Next year we will be looking into this more closely. Q: Are you used to DJ in these parties? If so, what kind of stuff do you play as a DJ in these parties? A: No i can't!!!, Atomic resident DJ's are Dino Psaras, Marc Van Der Vlugt, Steve Ronan, Joti Sidhu and Jayme, with them around theirs no need. Q: What comps/eps (we already talked about upcoming albums in question 4) do you project to release in the next months? A: Kiss the Future Procoyon has just been released. We have been working with Marc Van Der Vlugt on a compilation that is due for release in Feb 2001 includes tracks from MOS, Avatar, Slinky Wizard, Syncro, Bus etc etc it is called 'Behind the Scenes' - quality stuff, also 'Corrosive Breaks' 2 will be released in Feb on new Sub Atomic label, we feel an improvement on the 1st again quality stuff. There will also be singles from Slinky Wizard, Bus, MOS, Eargear,Purple & Ronan and a host of others including the launch of 'Atomic Reactor' sub label early next year the first release set to be by Male or Female (Front 242). A lot of Atomic stuff is also being liscenced by other labels and we are beginning to get some interest in the US. Children: Thanks a lot! Atomic: Thanks for your interest, your support is appreciated. Phil Poling/John Martin @ Atomic HQ.
  9. Artist: Atmos Date: 11-08-01 By: Danger Q: What is your musical background (studies, first compositions)? A: The only thing I have studied in music is 2 year of sound engeneering on the univesity in Gothenburg. Besides that I do not know anything about using or playing any instruments. I didn't even listen to music untill I was ca 13 years old. I still don't really know how to play an instrument. Q: When did you start making psytrance? A: I started to produce music on a hobby scale 1994 and on professional basis 1998. Q: Your last album contained released tracks and some other tracks made with other artists. Do you project to release a new album? When would you release it? A: The thing you call my last album is actually not a album it's more of a experimental compilation of trax I did a while after I had finnished the one and stil only album Headclener. Why we decided to do and release more experimental stuff on the Overlap compilation was becouse both me and Henrik are consumers of all kinds of music, techno, house, dub and even cool rock'n roll. It's very hard for us to produce music while we are on the road, that is why the tracks on the Overlap doesn't follow that thin red line you had on the Headclener wich have a strong theme of deeptrance. Now when we gave the gigs a rest for a while I'm really back on track to create a second Atmos album. We allready have some material ready for the album but definetly more has to be done. Q: Why did you choose to make psytrance over any other medium of music? A: I don't think Im producing any psytrance or ever done. The shit we are doing is just trance or deeptrance. For me psytrance is GMS, infected mushroom and space tribe. I don't know but for me our music is not sounding like that, or what? No matter what, I didn't choose to make the music I make, it just came to me naturally. Probobly from my earlier influences. Q: Which of your own tracks do you like the best? A: Hard to say. But probably Drum's don't stop. Released on Naja (NOVA-TEKK) Q: Your favourite psychedelic Groups & Albums? A: Since I don't really like psychedelic music maybe I can write some other stuff that i like instead. 1-Underworld 2-Chris Cowie 3-Greed (SOG-Rec) 4-Fluke 5-Jean M Jarre 6-Pink Floyd 7-Steve Lawler 8-X-Dream 9-Michael Kohlbecker 10-New Prder 11-William Orbit Q: Where does your inspiration come from? A: Almost to 100% from the music that is played around me, clubs, radio & TV. Q: What kind of equipment do you use to make your Tracks? A: I use different sort of stuff but always my MAC.G4 and AKAI sampler. Q: You have lots of other projects with various artists. Please tell us some more about them, who are them, future releases? A: I have done some stuff together with artists like Gus Till (Bus), Jan & Marcus (x-dream). We had some fun together in the studio and made a couple of tracks. The stuff I have been makeing to fit a continious project are tracks for ECHö-LAB and ATMOS. ATMOS is a chanel we use to release the more hypnotic sound and ECHO-LAB we use to release the cluborientaited productions. Just to not confuse people. Q: What other music styles do you like? A: As I earlier said, I listen to all kind of music as long it's quality music. I can't stand cheap 145bpm computer productions. Q: Is there any artist you'd like to work with? A: If I could chose any one that I haven't been working with so far, I think I would chose Willjam Orbit. Q: Do you play DJ sets? If so, what kind of stuff do you play as DJ in parties? A: I play Techno, deep-trance and house. Q: When & where was your best party ? And your worst one? A: Best ones I think was in Athens, Greece in +soda. The worst was on a open air festival in belgium I had the worst flue and a fever on 39°c, plus that there was nothing else to eat or drink there than beer. Of course the organiser didn't inform the people living around the festival that there was supposed to be one, so the local police came and all the artists had to perform on a homestereo volume, nice? Q: What do you think about the evolution of psytrance in the last years? A: I don't even know wich psytrance projects are the most popular today. As long as pepole listen and like the music I hope that the psytrance will live forever. Q: Have things gotten better/worse according to you? A: For us things have gone really good we play to a mature club croud most of the time, we get interesting gig's in different parts of the world and a nice feedback from people that are sick and tierd of hearing the cheap computer music. Thanks for the interview !
  10. Artist: Analog Pussy Date: 01-31-01 By: Jeto Q: How and when did you start producing ? A: Jinno: In the mid 80s, just before the new Techno sound came to life, i was doing some massive underground experiments. it was the days of the New-Wave and all those big reverbs. i wanted to go to something new and started to do some crazy tests with gear like connecting down pitch shifters and phasers to drum machines. after some time those deep punchy bass drums and bass lines just came together into something real energetic the first days of Techno. Jiga: I was playing bass guitar in some punk and metal bands. i was alright in my left hand, but couldnt get myself to master the slap base technique. i had all these ideas and bass riffs in my head and my fingers couldnt play these ideas. so i bought a cheap synthesizer with crappy sounds and suddenly i could program all the bass tunes i had in my head with no problems. then i wanted to program the drums and then it developed for a whole track. i connected to trance music immediatelly, since the energies in metal punk are simliar to it - strong and purifying energy. trance was fitting me more beacsue it had some other layers benieth it. not just - go and get fucked up in a metal headz club, but live life, dance in the nature, respect humanity. trance has the message of love. Q: Do you project to release a new album ? When would you release it ? A: Our next album psychedelic minimal techno trance. will be released in a few months. on this album we will reveal the dark side of Analog Pussy. totally new sound. Q: Which of your own tracks do you like the best ? Any Unreleased ones ? A: 'Shperma Pornomatic' is one of our favs now. we didnt have a name for it when we finished it, when our label manager heard it he came up with the name and we loved it. Q: Your favourite psychedelic Groups & Albums ? A: Jinno: Hmmm ... i'm not so much into following after specific acts or names ... but in general i like and open my ears to all kinds of good electronic-dance music. Jiga: When i scratch the table with my fingers it makes a real psychedelic sound. i listen to sounds around me and get inspired. could be the wind blowing or a car passing by. i learned to listen to everything and analyze it as a sound. Q: How do you generally split the work between you all when building a Track ? A: Jinno: We try to find new working methods everytime. this is a must in order not get too repetative. sometimes we sit together from start to end in the studio. one of us is in charge of the sequencer program (cakewalk), one of us is on a synthesizer making a new sound. on other times one of us will start a track completelly alone, get out from the studio after a few days and the other one would continue the track alone, taking it to a new direction. Q: Where does your inspiration come from ? A: We try not to deal with inspiration too much. inspiration is a factor for lazy people. we just get up in the morning and start to work. sometimes a good track comes up, sometimes a bad one. during the years we learned the big secret of producing - after a while you just get to know yourself so good that you know the "keys" to the doors of the soul. inspiration is not a random key anymore, all the emotions and feelings are there inside. you just have to reach and take from there and put it in your trax. it's that simple. Q: What kind of equipment do you use to make your Tracks ? A: Jiga: Analog synths like Moog, MS10, CS5, Poly 6, Matrix 6, Matrix 1000, semi analogs like Virus and waldorf, soft synths like Rebirth and Reactor, Soundscape - which is an audio hardware machine, and is the heart of our studio. all is sequeneced by cakewalk software. Q: Future projects ? A: Jinno: In the coming weeks a new 12" single will be released on the German label Leviathan. the name is 'extended Memory' (Lev05). the sound is very German, clean and minimal. Q: Is there any artist you'd like to work with ? A: Jiga: i would like to work someday with a rap artist. i was thinking it could be an interesting combination. psychedelic rap music... Jinno: At some point i would like to work with dj's. doesnt matter who as long as he has a good ear and a positive personality. dj's can bring a fresh perspective strait from the dance floor. this is an important motive beacuse artists are usually home sitters, we spend most of our days in the studio when we are not performing. dj's are social animals, they know what's going on. Q: Do you play DJ sets ? If so, what kind of stuff do you play as DJ in parties ? A: When we make a dj set we play only our trax, since we are not professional dj's. we perefer not to make dj sets as it is so.... boring! on a live show we can really play live. Jiga plays a cello, a bass guitar, midi percussions and Jinno plays synths and is on the mixer. You cant compare playing live (and we actually play LIVE) to just putting records on the decks. Q: When & where was your best party ? And your worst one ? A: We played inside a huge ancient cave near Jerusalem. 1500 people were dancing inside, the whole thing was lighted with uv lights. but when the sun came through the holes on the cave's cieling, the sun light broke to purple pieces and cut the whole cave with glitters and it was amazing. like a natural disco a few policemen came in a perfect timing when we started our show. we looked at each other and we knew what we have to do - we played our track 'Fight To Trance'. in the middle of the track there is a sample of Jiga saying "We fight the right to trance, we believe in total chaos". the audience were screaming that line, it was so meaningful in that particular situation. the police went away btw, we dont know if it was due to our track or not... the worst show we had? in Brazil in a very small town when the people didnt know what Trance is. they came to the club to get drunk and get girls. there was no vibe in the party and it made us sad. however a day later we went to play in Rio De Jenero and Sao-Paulo ,and it was unbelievably amazing, the crowd there showed us what groove is all about!! Q: Why do you release most of your Tracks as MP3 only and not through psy-labels ? A: We do have quite a few releases in the real world. we had our first album 'psycho bitch from hell', a few singles and compilations. we are working now on the second album, on real release. due to our busy concerts schedual, it is much easier to put a track we just finished on mp3.com than to make an album. however on the next album we'll put some fresh stuff, never heard before. keep an eye for it. Q: What do you think about the evolution of psytrance in the last years ? Have things gotten better/worse according to you ? A: Very important question. we are happy with the evolving of the scene. the more trance music becomes popular in the world, the more the psy trance becomes underground. it astonishes us how intelligent and fresh is the new psy music being released now. every year there is some "wise guy" who says the psy trance scene is dying and soon will disappear from the world. but as we see it this scene is alive and kicking. Thanks a lot!
  11. Chilled C'Quence - Space Breath Wonderful chillout.
  12. All Timecode releases. I need money first tho.
  13. I've heard it. The style has changed abit, this is more polished or what to say but the Shift trademark is still there. It's not as "screamy" as his previous albums. However, I think this CD rocks.
  14. Constant nagging about how much this forum sucks isn't that fun either. Ok, let's ban full on. PS. Time has changed.
  15. Jesus. Looks like alot of crap to me. CD3 has some nice tunes tho.
  16. Shift - Byte Me album. Got it in the mail today. Sounds fantastic so far D:D: d.d. d. ...)
  17. Perhaps you should seek out another forum. Ofcourse full on would have more replies. More people listen to it. Right?
  18. Where the hell is the new Scorb album? And what about a new Fractal Glider? I want 'em!
