Forbidden Ways Anytime Nexus Media releases some new material I am first in line with a blind purchase. They have put out so much quality stuff (Midnight Storm series, Shift albums, Bretheren albums...)that they have earned blind faith IMO. This is the debut album by Shane Renew who now aligns himself in South Africa. South Africa you say...say no more. His previous output has been limited (Midnight Storm III and Stereo Nefaria comps), but this is an example of quality over quantity. The album has 9 tracks (1 remix of a Shift classic) and you get exactly what you think you should. Ominous setups, with dark atmospheres. Dirty, no...FILTHY acidic washes and a truckload of groove. Each track seems more powerful than the next, bringing psychedelic beatdown after beatdown. This is what psytrance is all about. This style fits well with Nexus Media's other releases and there is no letdown. This album comes highly recommended and it is great to know that when things seem stale, Nexus Media comes through with a quality gem to set the genre back into balance. Great stuff! Mdk

definitely underrated. Sure, now he does full-on, but it is acid heavy, groove intensive stuff. I would argue that he is as important to this scene as Astral was. Mdk

Definitely a progressive fell to it. My favorite tracks were Rock and Roll Refugee and Basic Instinct. Good stuff. Mdk

Very enjoyable comp. And for free, you just can't beat it. Loved the Afgin track, but also the Apis one. Swirling melody craziness. An album from this individual would not be remiss. Mdk

Astrix. I don't know what IM makes now but it definitely isn't psy. The glamour of Classical has long since worn off. Astrix has still had some bangers. Tryambaka Vs. Frozen Ghost. Mdk

Agreed. This is not "Goa Gate" or "Inner Cyclone" This is lush, thick trance with overlying goa elements yet always remaining psychedelic. Mdk

Just listening to this today and these albums are really good! To be clear: Goa Syndrome is just the name of the compilation, right? The artist is the Imperial Project? Mdk

The first half of this comp bored the crap outta me, but you have to put it into context. 2000 was a time when goa and their beautiful melodies were passe and monotonous droning was all the rage. Some tracks were good, like the Morphem one and the feurehake track. EU's track was a nice one as well. Not one of my fave comps. Mdk

Are you sure we are not related? I also felt this was very hollow with almost no surprises. It sounded the same all the way through and Azax is nowhere near the wicked powerhouse he used to be. Remember Hagi Gat? Big Mystery? I miss that insanity. Don't even ask about Bliss. What the hell was that last album all about? Someone should be in the Looney Bin. Mdk

Well said brother. It is still a great album for high energy power, but it does have its share of misses. Still, worth the buy and better than most of the cluby shit out there. Mdk
