  1. On a goa kick so I thought I would bump this....So this is purely old school no new school artists involved. In no particular order: Pleiadians - I.F.O. Dimension 5 - Transdimensional Astral Projection - Trust In Trance Zirrex - Lost In Time Ra - To Sirius Transwave - Phototropic Miranda - Phenomena Tandu - Multimoods Colorbox - Train to Chroma City Ominous - Ominous As this list evolves, these are the ones that could jump into the top ten at any time: Hallucinogen - Twisted Dreamweaver - Lord of Illusions Asia 2001 - Psykedelia Astral Projection - Another World Etnica - Alien Protein MFG - The Message MFG - The Prophecy Ux - Ultimate Experience Psygone - Optimystique SynSyn - The Sound of Cosmic Lifeforms Virtuart - Drehkar Yeah, I bumped a 3 year old topic instead of creating a new one. I'm going green! Mdk :posford:
  2. An absolutely fantastic album. The goa feel here is so thick, so pervasive, that I can taste it. It surrounds the listener taking them to a place that is full of sunshine. Outstanding work gentlemen. :posford: Mdk
  3. I will have to assume this is the alcohol talking....er typing. Mdk
  4. Artist: Psywalker Title: Inverted Vertigo Label: Digital Psionics Release: February, 2008 1. Psywalker - The Dark Side (7:31) 2. Psywalker - Kong (7:16) 3. Psywalker - Inverted Vertigo (8:01) 4. Psywalker - Dreamweaver Rmx (8:58) 5. Psywalker vs. Dark Nebula - Some Kind Of Spaceship (9:10) 6. Psywalker vs. Space Tribe - Twitch (Psywalker Re-Visited) (7:19) 7. Psywalker - Chemical Tranceformation (8:04) 8. Psywalker - Mind Expansion (7:30) 9. Psywalker vs. Space Tribe - The Prophecy (7:47) Digital Psionics is an Australian label formed in 1998 by Luna Orbit and Luke Psywalker. This has been one of the most productive labels in our scene, releasing numerous artist albums and compilations. They specialize in high energy psy, with lots of acid. This isn't a label that delivers the happy Ibiza crap that unfortunately is trying to take over. Luke has collaborated with Aussie Space Tribe frequently as well as Dark Nebula. This release should be packed full of powerful rhythms and drenched in delicious acid. At least that is my hope. Let's get to it! The Dark Side- "The Dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural." In no time a twisted lead twirls above a bass line. Metallic synths clash up to a break as eerie stings make themselves known. As promised, acid splatters my ears, as I try to know the dark side of the force. Acid leads dance the dance of evil and keeps my head ringing. Very good start! Kong- Acid stabs detuned strike from the corners of the darkness as a bass line rumbles underneath. Slowly, a slimy lead twists from its dark prison right into a woman's scream. Green acid swirls around my lungs threatening to asphyxiate me. Lofty synths mock me from above as another acid leads clouds the sky turning everything a nuclear green. Awesome! :posford: Inverted Vertigo- Chopped up synths float tantalizingly close, as others drag their fetid stench across my ears. Cascading tones rain down as another synth gears up for its assault. Even though parts of this track sounded great,I didn't care for this as much as it didn't seem to have any direction. Which I think is sad for a title track. Dreamweaver (Rmx)- Melancholy pads set the tone as a bass line jumps forward. An acid line flies with abandon, as a soft angelic choir pierces the senses. Another break brings back the pads and choir voice. I think that is a LOTR sample, with some nice orchestral backing. The leads come back driving the track further down the rabbit hole. The only thing I didn't like about this track (and I am nitpicking) was one part where he broke the flow into a buildup. Other than that, pretty good track! :clapping: Some Kind of Spaceship- "I hate these fucking robots!" Mr. Nebula jumps aboard to lend a hand on this track. Insert hammering bass line, add moody pad, pepper with slight orchestral sounds, and dash with sample and you have this track. The lead takes control and guides me on a trip. As everything combines to an ear shattering crescendo, it all just stops. Briefly, and then right back into the fray! Great track! Twitch Revisited- This is apparently a remix of the collaboration Luke did with Space Tribe on the Psionic Tales compilation. If I recall, that track kicked ass! A climbing lead becomes disemboweled as another descends upon it. Perhaps sensing weakness. The slight synth flutter jogs my memory of the original, and after a somewhat frustrating break, the original melody comes out to play. The end sees more acid pummeling me as I reel in recovery. Great track! Chemical Trance- "Whatever the actual intensity of the experience...call it religious." A metallic synth grates over a bass line as short bursts of acid sprinkle the scene. The acid melody rips the track apart and is moving full throttle. The break gives the above sample and the next lead almost sounds...joyful?!? What the hell is that doing in there? Aside from that seemingly misplaced melody, pretty good track! Mind Expansion- "LSD is one of the strangest and most controversial substances. A dose smaller than a grain of salt precipitates a hazardous mental journey into a universe of hallucination, intense emotion and some believe...mystic revelation." Man that makes me wish I had tried acid. More acid bombardment (God help me, I never tire of it) in full on mode. The melody at 3:20 is sweet, and puts this track on another level. The next sample is of "the man" sounding befuddled as to the effects of acid. The track then spirals into an acid deluge where you don't know note from note. I likey! :posford: The Prophecy- "I say again what is needed on your planet is a massive shift in consciousness. A change in your awareness. A renewed respect for all life. And a deeper understanding of the inter relatedness of everything." Mr. Tribe comes back on board and it isn't long before these two titans of acidity give me all I can handle. The groove is ripe and my head is bobbing to the beat. Just as one acid melody fades there is a new one to take its place. The final one is truly epic! Great track. Conclusion: Well, if you were looking for an album with a nice relaxing downtempo number at the end, this ain't it. If you were searching for a run of the mill, clubby, house inspired piece of crap, this ain't it either. This is in your face, powerful, acid heavy psytrance. Any fan of Electric Universe, Space Tribe, or Shift should love this. This was the album Brethren should've made their second time around. While some may say it sounds samey, I shall never tire of the acid melodies. Digital Psionics once again proves that it knows how to bring it when it comes to psytrance. Kudos you Australian wonders and as long as you keep releasing stuff like this, I will keep buying it. 9/10 Mdk
  5. Artist: Various Title: Versus Galaxy Label: Hypergate Records Release: March, 2008 1. Sidhartha vs. Suria - Let's Go Quantum (6:23) 2. Sidhartha vs. Gastapha - Microwave Engineering (6:35) 3. Sidhartha vs. Tryon - Mars Flight (8:04) 4. Sidhartha vs. Adrop - Creating A New Science (7:18) 5. Sidhartha vs. Technodrome - Access Point (6:50) 6. Sidhartha vs. Phonic Request - Technological Itch (7:37) 7. Sidhartha vs. Khopat - Beyond Messure Of Control (7:07) 8. Sidhartha vs. Vibraddict - Cosmic Circus (7:38) 9. Sidhartha vs. Cortex - The Next Day 2008 Edit (7:08) 10. Sidhartha vs. Adrop - Electro Therapy (7:18) This is the 2nd release from Hypergate records, the first being the comp Signwaves. I have recently reviewed Sidhartha's great new album Bio Rhythm and here he is with another offering. Is this classified as his album or a compilation? Discogs says it was compiled by him so in a sense it is a compilation, but he is on every track, so in that sense it is his album. I don't know the answer, but I do know that he has been releasing some great music. Here he is with all his buddies. The cover is cool looking with mountains below a starlight sky. Let's get to it! Let's Go Quantum- I firmly believe that Suria's album Logical Evolution from 2004 was way too under appreciated. The track starts with a full on bass line and synth riffs that fly overhead. At 3:07 they all combine to give a rich sound tapestry. The break sees further analog goodness, as new leads leave their sticky residue. Very good start! :clapping: Microwave Engineering- The bass line seems to be the same in this track as well as the other sounds. I like the melody in it's minor key style. The break supplies a change up in melody and a very nervous, chopped up lead cautiously makes its way around the track. By the end, it is full steam ahead. Pretty good track, but not mindblowing. Mars Flight- Here Nuno is again with his friend Tryon. A full on bass line guides me as synth notes usher me along. Gashes of synthesized sound dart in between a chopped up lead with whip like intensity. The sound becomes thicker with the addition of more leads. After the break, the feel continues to be space and acid intensive. Very good track. :posford: Creating a New Science- Ana Bastos joins the team here, and I don't know if that is a man or a woman. Please excuse my ignorance. Sticky leads leave their mark as the track rises, creating a solid groove. After a slowdown, the track picks up right where it left off at the 5:20 mark. Good track, but I felt it could've been more. Access Point- Now this is what I am talking about. Technodrome did the ninja turtle album Earthquake and I thought it rocked! I look forward to this match. Boom, a spooky synth stab and detuned sound give this track some character. Lasers flash, metallic leads clash and at 5 and a half minutes it all comes together in sonic mayhem. Great track. Technological Itch- Phonic Request join the team and start off with a hovering pad. Percussive elements strike fast and give way to the bass line. Metallic swarms of bees belie a lightning quick synth arpeggio as a staggered sample is set to a loop. It is more percussive than vocal. It then becomes glitchy and ruins whatever flow there was. I think that would've sounded better if the beat or "a" beat was maintained. But that's why I'm a listener and not an artist. Then another melody appears with a buildup but I am rather indifferent. Meh. Beyond Measure of Control- Khopat is back (he did a track on Sidhartha's new album) and he brought his acid grenades! Volley after volley of concussive acid are thrown, destroying all in their wake. A well placed Matrix sample provides only a moment of respite as the buildup continues right into a break. Once out of it, more leads add to the arsenal it twisting madness. My favorite track! :posford: Cosmic Circus- Vibraddict (another Portuguese chum) comes out to play, and I'm going to the circus. I can hear the dolby soundtrack in the background as the bass drum slowly makes its way to the front. Synths swirl amongst each other as the kick suddenly drops out. As the track rolls on, there are a bunch of chopped up samples including a Tommy Chong gem. The buildup paves the way for Acidfest 2008! Lots and lots of it, so if you like this type of stuff, this is for you. I do. Nice job! The Next Day 2008 Edit- Cortex is in on this one (the track is from his album Time For Salvation) as the track begins with a simple synth riff with nice effects. The bass line is jumpy, with eerie synth melodies that peek in to see if it is safe. The sample is a little long for my tastes, but I do enjoy the percussive synth work. So much better than a rising snare. Back to the track it plows along with some staggered leads but nothing special. I would have to listen to the original to see if there is that much of a difference between the two. Electro Therapy- Just like with Sidartha's latest, the last track is a break beat one. Pretty funky with a bouncy lead. The leads give it that "electro" feel and I just keep bouncing along with it. Conclusion: This was a pretty good album. What you have here is full on trance which leans toward the darker side. It is fast, powerful, and at times acid laden. The melodies were very spooky and the rhythm's are very dance friendly. I felt there was something missing though. Maybe that "Timecode" fullness or layering that really fills out the tracks. Sometimes there were a few too many stops and build ups. Also, it felt very full on. Not Blanck and White full on, but at least heading in that direction. Now that is not bad and maybe I'm just a spoiled listener. But I am really nitpicking. I enjoy everything Sidhartha does and can see his abilities get better with every tack he makes. So I will recommend this album. While not essential, it provides a good ride. 8.5/10 Mdk
  6. Artist: Various Title: Neurology Vol. 2 Label: Neurobiotic Release: January, 2008 1. 2 Hi - Into The Future (7:39) 2. PTX - Conflict (7:34) 3. Joti Sidhu - Distorted Reality (Remix) (6:17) 4. Flip Flop - Cheque One (8:04) 5. Psychaos - Party Animals (6:55) 6. Zen Mechanics - Vurt (Sinewave Remix) (8:38) 7. Polaris - Straight Ahead (7:32) 8. The Commercial Hippies - The 7th Fold (7:04) 9. Zen Mechanics - Glade Runner (8:50) 10. Alchemix - What Is Reality (8:03) Neurobiotic Records is an italian label that has put out a whole bunch of great stuff. The new Zen Mechanic's album Holy Cities, Bamboo Forests's Release Your Mind and a host of compilations. They specialize in full-on psytrance in the high quality range. This is the 2nd installment in this series, the first one having been released in 2004. There are some interesting names here, the regulars of course and a couple I am not familiar with. Also it was mastered by Mr. Silicon Sound, so it's got that going for it. Let's get to it! Into the Future- "If you find something out when you're in there just calm down. The less you freak, the less you'll trip out! That shit is in the past." 2Hi have released a lot of tracks on comps and I think one of them is Vibra. The track starts with some effects and then it is quickly into a full-on bass line. After the cool sample a synth lead weaves in between another lead. Pretty groovy and a nice way to start the compilation off, but nothing too deep. Conflict- PTX just released his 2nd album Colour Your Ears which was very good. He begins with some fluttery synths that float above a bass line. The track proceeds with regular full-on glory complete with annoying sample. This is a track that could've just as easily been done by Alien Project. I'll pass on this one. Distorted Reality (Remix)- "What are we talking about really? Getting High? Were talking about a journey man. A sub conscious safari of mental expedition." Joti has been around a long time. Hell, he is older than me! Having been around that long, proves that he has staying power and this track is no exception. In no time a bass line slams away, below the above sample. Very powerful indeed. Synths combine, groove is defined, and the track rips. I felt there could've been more variation and the sample was used too much. Not bad though. Cheque One- Flip Flop are Chris Hanson & John Beesemyer-Monkman and they released their debut this year. I haven't heard it. Light sprinkles twinlke above a deep tone. There is a lot to focus on here, with sounds from all sides and a rumbling bass line. The groove at the 4 minute mark is nice, and the break is smooth. I think the sample is rastafarian, but I'm not sure. Something about inspection and it is repeated. I could've done without it, but it doesn't marr the track. Pretty good, might have to check these guys out. Party Animals- Psychaos is Joti again but with this project, he put out some storming goa tracks. I don't think we get any of that here. Straight bass line with light synth tones above. The semi break has an alarm type of sound as a new synth arpeggio growls underneath. The tones return and are joined by other synths. The whole track fills out and just rambles on. Nothing groundbreaking here, but not a bad track. Vurt (Sinewave Remix)- Zen Mechanics with a very futuristic start. The bass line drops in and then some synths dart in and out. There is a very spacey feel to this one. The scope is large and this is a fine track, but it doesn't really go far. Not bad by any stretch. Straight Ahead- I heard Polaris is coming out with a new album soon. Cool. This one bounces along with a sample in a very house fashion. I don't care for it at all. The strings in the background are nice, but this is too clubby for me. There is also not a lot of variation here to keep the track from becoming boring. That sample comes back and my disdain grows. Pass. The 7th Fold- A big beat start with whooshes flying in from all sides. I haven't heard these guys's debut, but there sure was a lot of hype about it. If this track is anything like it, I need to check it out! Skittering leads with laser blasts that keep my feet moving. Epic synths that are so thick, I can't breathe. The break brings back the big beat, and I really get a taste of those synths. Great track! Best yet. :posford: Voodoo Bytes- The Mechanics are back with another track with a spacey feel. Drums in the periphery illustrate the grandeur right into the bass line. A grimy synth lead snakes along as the groove continues. I like the effects and it keeps me bouncing, but this is another track that probably could've been so much more. What is Reality- "What is reality? Is reality what we see with our brain? Or what we see with our eyes?" I have no idea who this is, but he (or she...they?) closes the compilation. A machine gun bass line churns below a floating pad. The pad is melancholy, and my interest just went up a level. Slow attack rate whispers frolic with a peppery lead. At the break, there is a lot of reverb. Actually a lot throughout the track, but in a good way. Conclusion: I don't know why I reviewed this. Maybe because it was next in the pile of CDs I received. When I first heard it, I had it rated higher than I do now. Clearly for me the best track is the one by the Commercial Hippies. Plenty of power and groove along with sounds that take you places. The rest was ok, but just your standard full-on tracks. I liked parts in all of them, but as a whole, nothing to write home about. 6.7/10. Mdk
  7. Artist: Sidhartha Title: Bio-Rhythm Label: Fractal Records Release: June, 2008 1. Heartbeat (7:15) 2. Mind Warp (7:28) 3. Highpnosys (Phonic Request Remix) (7:40) 4. Alien Plasma (9:05) 5. Divine Justice (7:14) w/Khopat 6. Chemical Percussors (7:06) 7. Lysergic Trip (7:22) 8. Day Dream (8:08) w/Tryon 9. Biorhythm (8:50) 10. Celebrate The Life (9:12) w/Adrop Sidhartha is Nuno Francisco Santos from Portugal here with his 2nd full length album. His first, Reverse Mode, was released in 2005 on Metatron records and produced some insane tracks. Psychotic Behaviour, No Worries, Physical Forms, and Deep Sonar all were absolute smashers in my eyes. His music tends toward the darker side of trance without being darkpsy. He also released an album called Versus Galaxy (review on the way) collaborating with numerous artists on every track. Think of Menog's Tribe Remixes. Nuno's compilation work as of late has also been quite strong, putting out even more storming tracks. I would classify his music in the same vein as Killer Buds and various South African artists as powerful, danceable, and melodic psy. I have been looking forward to this for quite some time, so let's get to it! Heartbeat- It isn't long before the traces of acid set my mind afire, as the track builds right out of the gate. The synths are thick and engaging right into a change of tempo. The cool thing here is that even with the change in tempo, he creates another equally powerful groove. Seamless transition brings us back to where we started with wispy tufts of acid. The thick synths also return driving the point home. Very good track! :clapping: Mind Warp- The beat here seams heavier, more tangible. Groovy, for sure, as a tormented synth lead dances in search of release. More leads join the fray, each jockeying for position. I like the "psychedelic experiences" sample as it is short and sweet. This is a good track, though not as good as the previous one. Highpnosys (Phonic Request Remix)- Phonic Request gives the remix treatment here of a Sidhartha track from the compilation Brain Chemistry. A rambling bass line amidst a sundry of effects takes center stage. There is a computerized sample saying "electrobeatt" that I don't really care for, but it is brief and non-obtrusive. The break is soothing, albeit short with another unnecessary sample. This track really didn't hold anything new for me and I don't see myself giving it another listen. Alien Plasma- What is Alien Plasma? I dunno, but they are two cool words put together. Very science fiction. A muted bass drum pounds the temples as spacey synths arc skyward above a distorted sample. Oooh, I can feel this one starting to pick up and get nasty. :posford: The acid returns as the track rises, with synth stabs carrying the groove. After the break a scratchy "darkpsy" lead forces it's way amidst lasers and even more heavy synths. Nice. Best track on the album so far. :clapping: Divine Justice- This is a team-up with Khopat. I haven't heard a lot of his music so I am unfamiliar with his sound. I do know that the beat instantly grabs me and forces me underwater. Just when I think I can't breathe another breath, I am lifted up. Lasers and acid batter me from all sides as I struggle to regain my footing. Cover is hard to find, but I do what I can. As quickly as it appeared the pursuit vanishes and I look for means to escape. I find a light cycle and am weaving amidst new acid barrages. This track is pedal to the medal Portuguese/South African insanity. Bee Yootiful! :posford: Chemical Percussors- This CD is moving along nicely now. More acid stabs and 303 riffs assault my senses above a simple one note bass line. The feel is slightly goa, without the nice sunshine. The break further reinforces that theory, as a definite goa lead dances sublimely above my head. I grab hold, as the 303s buffer my flight. Twists, turns, but careful not to fly too high. The Hindu Gods give me an audience, and show me things that I could never have known. Great track with a great feeling.! :posford: Lysergic Trip- Once again, without delay I am thrust into the guardrails of a streaming bass line. A filtered synth grows in intensity, and is rapidly joined by some of its brethren. The tempo changes out of a short break, but not for long. The acid is here as well, but I feel this track is lacking a lot of the emotion and power of the previous tracks. It's ok, but nothing to write home about. Day Dream- Tryon is a DJ from Portugal, but has worked with Sidhartha before on Gaia-Tek and Versus Galaxy. With a slight break beat start, I have a funky beat complete with acid stabs before the thumping bass line begins. The acid splatters but I don't get any on me. But its intent is clear. The track begins to threaten and rise up, but doesn't strike yet. I feel like a rat in front of a snake as it dances a macabre dance and plays with its food. A stuttering synth slams the door shut on any chance of escape and I am now cornered. The beat pounds on and just that quick, the attack comes. Thick synths smash my ribs as acid stabs go for the eyes. Pretty good track with great layering. Bio-Rhythm- Another muted beat moves past me, trailing eerie sounds. I look down and realize the acid is pooling about my feet. I start to run and avoid a nasty demise. I head for the forest, though it is dark. Alien beings draw down on me as concentrated bursts of acid whirl past my head. I find cover behind a boulder and reach for my weapon. As arpegiated leads swarm the canopy above I fire off salvos of my own but to no effect. The track continues to rise as the aliens begin to redouble their efforts. I reach a new hiding place just as sticky tendrils crush the boulder I was hiding behind. This track as you can tell was a very good mover. :posford: Celebrate the Life- This is wth Adrop and they bring a Sitar to do battle. The stings force my eyes heavenward as the percussion steadies me. The breakbeat rhythm is groovy, a welcome rest after what I have endured. Nimble synths dance before my eyes, always out of reach. They thicken and I feel coated. This track allows the heart to come back down to normal levels while retaining its ethereal qualtiy. Good track! Conclusion: This was worth the wait. High powered, acid laden insanity is what this is. Some great tracks here and some very good tracks. He continues to produce quality work that is great for the day but mostly the night. I would have no problem recommending this to anyone. There are definite similarities between him and Killer Buds music but also as I mentioned before several South African acts. Keep up the great work! 8.9/10 Mdk
  8. Wait until you hear his latest... *searches for the vomit icon* Mdk
  9. I will agree, but compared to the epic scope and "grandeur" of FLA synth programming, this pales in comparison. Like I said though, I still enjoyed this. Especially the final track with the geiger counter. Good storytelling.
  10. Such a total ripoff of Frontline Assembly it is almost laughable. This guy is just a little late to the party. That said, I enjoyed it. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, the FLA should be flattered. While I thought it was good, I think that the boys from FLA are better synth programmers and arrangers. P.S. The evil twisted interpretation of Moonlight Sonata at the end was chilling. Reminds me of the Depeche Mode single Mephisto. Mdk

    V/A - Siesta

Gotta bump this. I just finished preparing dinner (Chicken swiss with mushrooms) and while I am waiting for it to bake, I threw this on. Now Ari has taken a step back lately, but I think this was the height of his popularity. As previously mentioned, it is a downtempo/chill compilation. Here he compiles tracks that have deep, booming basses, break beat rhythms as well as a nice afternoon reggae feel. I also find that real instruments mix very well with the electronic stuff. I thoroughly enjoyed this, and highly recommend it to anyone who likes to watch the sunset on a beach with or without artificial supplements. Mdk
  12. Unfortunately the albums content did not live up to the cover's standards. Mdk
  13. I thought this was a pretty good release that gets better each time I hear it. There are a lot of different styles here. Psy, Prog, breakbeat, goa.... Megasex was my favorite as the old goa flavor shines. The last track is just a nice breakbeat track with house samples. I have heard a lot worse and found this to be very enjoyable. Mdk
  14. I also wanted to congratulate you on this release. Pretty strong effort. Thanks for making it available! Mdk
  15. Whoa, really rich man. This track was just full to overflowing with goodness. :posford: Mdk
  16. Wow, that 1st track! Holy crap at 31 minutes, but the flow doesn't stop. Great job! Mdk
  17. So I can still write long reviews if the mood strikes me? It does take a long time to do, but sometimes (as you have seen recently) I get started and cannot stop. Mdk
  18. Great vibe in this track! You do some good work sir. Mdk
  19. I cannot believe this. I was just going to say this track. I was listening to it this morning, and it is an eye opener! :posford: Mdk
