  1. Artist: Xerox & Illumination Title: XI Label: HOM-Mega Productions Date: September, 2005 1. Night Shift (Remix) 2. Ghost In The Machine 3. Battleship 4. Paranoia 5. Soul Control 6. Funkenstein 7. Assimilation of Reality 8. Astrix - Oranda (Final Mix) 9. Bottom Line 10. Xerox & Illumination with Chakra - 7 Days (Etnica Remix) ""As I was going up the stair I met a man who wasn't there!" C'mon where else can you hear a track that has an excerpt from an over century old poem along with an Animal House sample? Nowhere, that's where. This duo has been around for a very long time and deserve to be called rocks of the psytrance community. For me this was their best album and they took full-on in a very dark, industrial direction when it was (some may say still is) wallowing in its own generic swamp of mediocrity. Thumping beats along with wailing leads make this a fairly eerie listening experience. Battleship is an absolute monster. They take a break from the haunting full-on with Funkenstein which is more of a techno, big beat track. Not great, but I like to see artists stretch themselves on occasion. There is even an Etnica remix! Everybody loves Etnica remixes, right? Well, maybe not this one. It's kinda boring. But overall this is a good full-on album that rises above the swamp. Beatport
  2. Artist: Various Title: Manga Vol. 2 Label: Yabai Records Date: March, 2009 1. Painkiller & Lost & Found - Digitized 2. Digital Talk -Acid Test (Mindcore Remix) 3. B-55 - Miracle Hour 4. Orca - Wire Trip Remix 5. Lost & Found Vs. Frozen Ghost - Rapture 6. Azax Syndrom - Hokuto Shin-Ken 7. Winter Demon - Twisted Image Remix 8. Bliss - Etnix 9. Toxic - The Prayer 2008 Edition "What happened to the portions?" Sometimes you just want to get to the meat. F*ck all that bread nonsense, give me the good stuff! But see, eat like this guy and the airlines will have you paying for two seats. Yabai Records has taken an extended hiatus ( I hear they're going to resurface digitally) and I liked to think of them as Timecode East. Same pumping, dark and melodic psytrance that gets all the neurons firing. The first installment (Review here) was pretty good whereas the final volume (review here) was a flaming sh*t show. Consider this compilation the goldiilocks of the trilogy. Kinda. The true meat is in the middle with acid everywhere; high tempo banging stuff. It's the beginning and the end where things get a little moldy. Painkiller should've never come within 50 feet of Lost & Found and I think based on previous output we knew Azax and Bliss were going to cheese it up. And...they did. Oy vey the build ups and samples! Toxic would answer my prayer if he would cease and desist all construction of this type of music. This is why I said kinda just right. Like the first one some good tracks, but not enough to hunt down a copy.
  3. Artist: Various Title: The French Connection Label: Mind Control Records Date: January, 2007 1. Talamasca - Roswell Mania 2. Altom - Kompak 3. Talamasca - Another Frenchman in Cape Town (Deedrah Remix) 4. DJ Mael - Shandramala 5. Silicon Sound - Deep Eye 2005 (Talamasca Remix) 6. XSI - Overzone 7. Shagma - Goblin 8. Sirius Isness - Dimension 9. Triptych - Playground I know what you're thinking. Damn this American can't spell. I don't give a fcuk! Look, you don't have to sugar coat it, I know the US educational system has a few Grand Canyon sized holes that I may have fallen through. Catch the trademark at the end? This company actually trademarked their purposeful misspelling. (Just and FYI I misspelled the word misspelling before Psynews corrected me. F*ck you man, that sh*t is hard) What we have here is a steaming pile of mediocre full-on. If you do have some leisure time and feel like you need to listen to cheesy melodies and tired cliches then perhaps you will come to the same conclusion I did. Talamasca has been making cotton candy nonsense for what seems like forever. Hasn't he? And he isn't alone. This was harder to choke down than a dry pork chop. I realize that this is over a decade old and some members here have given me a little sh*t about ripping compilations from years ago. To that I say poppycock! Good music is good music whether it was made 50 years ago or just now on my kid's old Speak and Spell. And this compilation stinks on ice. If you pay the over $11 Psyshop is asking for this you either need direction on how to spend your fortune wisely or you pay people to sh*t on you and punch you in the face. Actually I don't think you can have one without the other. Psyshop
  4. Artist: Various Title: Inti Label: Suntrip Records Date: April, 2017 1) Ovnimoon - Invocation 2) Triquetra - Renkinjutsu 3) Jagoa - Perverse Polymorph 4) Morphic Resonance - Varese Dream 5) Triquetra - Destroying Dinosaur 6) Celestial Intelligence - Distorted Visions 7) Mindsphere - Harmonic Garden 8) Crossing Mind - Entropy (First Edition) 9) Sykespico - Glimmers Of Sunrise I cut my the tip of my right ring finger off yesterday. I didn't do it on purpose Ross, although watching some of your reruns the other day I wanted to stab myself in the eye with a sharp pencil. You really were a whinny p*ssy. Nope just slicing some zucchini for dinner and wasn't paying attention. Didn't really think that finger was important until you realize typing is much more difficult. Had to take a break from piano, And forget about ass wiping, had to go southpaw. So the moral of the story here is f*ck zucchini, nobody ever lost a finger from a doughnut. On a less bloody note, I've been giving the latest Suntrip offering some play and I think they've done a really good job. The artwork was done by Margot Schaffer who had a hand in the artwork for Aurora Sidera and the tracklist is like a damn all star team. Invocation- Anyone who is surprised that Ovnimoon made a deliciously dark goa track clearly wasn't paying attention. His albums Trancemutation of the Mind and Holistic were loaded with them. His opener is a powerful entrance into thumping goa trance territory for this compilation. Nothing groundbreaking, but tasty just the same. Rekinjutsu- Where the hell did these brothers come from? They took the ball from Ovnimoon and f*cking ran with it leaving a powerful trail of acid on fire behind them. Just an outright bomb. Perverse Polymorph- This one continues the dark atmosphere. It wandered a bit, but finished quite strongly. Love that bouncing 303! Varese Dream- Anyone else get like this when you see this guy on the tracklist? F*cking King Midas of goa trance. I believe he is physically unable to make a bad track. Another pumping and swirling entity with plenty of layers and power. He builds, he deconstructs, and then builds again. Bravo. Destroying Dinosaur- The second track from these brothers sounds distinctly old school. Think Transwave wrapped in a blanket of Etnica under an umbrella of the Pleiadians. Yeah, I'm looking forward to beach weather. Distorted Visions- Celestial Intelligence takes the compilation in a lighter direction. It's melodic with less bombast, but I don't believe it to be among their best. It's missing the aggressive element that their album Perpetual Energy had. Harmonic Garden- I really liked this one. Melodic to the bone with many layers. This was a very positive track and reminded me of what Afgin did way back when. Entropy (First Edition)- Seems like a lot of people are split on the work of Stephane, either they really like it or perhaps they find his sound choice unduly harsh. Again, very bright and sunny vibe where his style is certainly evident. We're definitely in gently and friendly goa trance territory here, seemingly miles away from the beginning of the compilation. Really good. Glimmers of Sunrise- Ah the closer and the title is very accurate. Someone said we're teetering on the edge of melodic trance here and it would be hard to argue. It sounds like where Afgin is now with his latest Ep releases and we are now 180 degrees from where we started. Suntrip delivers yet again. They do what they do well. This compilation began in the dark and powerful milieu, and then became lighter. None of the tracks are filler and all of them were enjoyable. I can understand the disappointment for those that were expecting a dark, thunderous ride all the way through. For me however, dark or light this was a great album and I highly recommend it. 5. Artist: Various Title: Cybertrance 6 - Derniere Edition Label: Fairway Records Date: 1998 1. Jeremiah - Exotic Intercourse 2. Union Jack - Yeti 3. DJ Jan - X-Santo 4. Bypass Unit - Higher Spirituality 5. Nuclear Hyde - Accelerator 6. Equator - Last Mission 7. The Secret - The Munk Files (Acid Munk) 8. Canyon - Blackout 9. Der Stern Von Afrika - Downhill V.2 (Massimo Vivona Remix) 10. The Light - Expand The Room Anyone else utter a barely audible "f*ck" when the style on Discogs reads Trance, Goa Trance? No? Just me then? Oh well, when I see that it usually means some sh*t that I'm not going to like. For example the "reaching into my brain" sample during X-Santo. Yeah that's annoying. Even goa trance superstar project Bypass Unit basically phones it in with Higher Spirituality. There is a barely restrained 303 in The Munk Files, but it cannot support the considerable tonnage of suck emanating from this compilation. Unfortunately instead of going out with a bang they dissolve with a whimper. This is full of trance cliches and could just as easily be titled Cybertrance 6 - Aw f*ck it Edition. Usually when a label rolls out a final edition it's because the release is a steaming pile of sparkle farts and they've got nothing left in the tank or the label heads took all the money and cocaine and hopped a cessna to an island paradise with very lax extradition laws. Clearly there's evidence of the former and based on my imagination probably some of the latter.
  6. Artist: Various Title: The Prophets of Psychedelic Trance Label: Trance Medusa Records Date: 1996 1. Cool - Brain Surgery 2. Electric Universe - Sunset Skyline 3. Evolution - Alien Phenomenon 4. A-Tek - Antologan 5. Mono Substance - Midnight Sunrise 6. Factor - Orientrance 7. B(if)tek - They Oscillate 8. S.U.N. Project - Tribolus 9. Proton - Brainfusion This will be a short review cause there really isn't much to say, but since this is a compilation from the glory days of goa trance I felt it needed a topic. THE track here is Alien Phenomenon by Evolution, a good old belter in the tradition of growly goa trance. Sunset Skyline is of course great, but offered in a bunch of other compilations. If I had to pick a bronze medal it would go to Midnight Sunrise with its industrial, primal scream and dark atmosphere. Hardly essential, but track 3 is a must hear.
  7. Artist: Various Title: Analog Charon Label: Plutonic Records Date: November, 2006 1. Sattwa - Too Much Time 2. Tryambaka - Violet Violence 3. Miditec - The Prophecy 4. Technodrome - Whale Talk 5. Psychoz - Imaginary Friends 6. Blisargorgon Demogorgon - Victory of Jafar 7. N3xu5 - Mutilation 8. Iron Madness - Death is Coming (Rmx) 9. Miditec - Crystal Vision (Norik & Redax Mental Rmx) "It's not unusual for a traumatized child to create imaginary friends." There is nothing in this compilation that will occupy a fraction of space in your memory banks. I liken it to a business major who strays from his ordered curriculum and decides to take quantitative analysis because there are a few hot chicks in that class. It is comprised of dark tracks that are either darkpsy or dark full-on, but regardless of which is which it's easily forgettable. No highs, no lows, just...a constant medium humming. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I would say it was full of mediocre tracks, but that would require me to remember what I just listened to. It's comps like this that shove the sword in the heart of dynamic music just a little further each time. Available at Beatspace for less than 2E, but doing something better with that money and give it to charity or a homeless person.
  8. Artist: Various Title: POF Trance Collector Vol. 2 Label: POF Music Date: 1996 1. Denshi Danshi - Cow's Blues 2. The Infonaut - Chronos (Time Undefined) 3. Amanite FX & Prana - Black Rain (Blue Planet Corporation Mix) 4. Synchro - Christine (Haunted Car Radio Mix) 5. Denshi Danshi - Mariposa 6. The Infonaut - Mind Directed Energy 7. Amanite FX & Prana - Black Rain (Original Mix) 8. Synchro - Babes On Broomsticks 9. Amtinaous - Apocalyps-Hilan 10. Universal Island - M-Stick Collecting something specific is so tiring. I mean it's not like I'm trying to see how many prostitute heads I can hang on the wall, but...Haggling with people over price is the best part of the hunt, but it can be quite draining. Maybe that's why we as collectors are never finished because as soon as we posses the obeject we need another something to chase. I bought this off Discogs for only one track, but it turns out there is much more to enjoy. Of course the BPC remix of Black Rain is what I was after, but you also get the original version. Strange, but appreciated. You get possibly the best track by Synchro (if such a thing is actually possible) Babes On Broomsticks and a couple of decent offerings by Denshi Danshi with the best being Mariposa. Mind Directed Energy is the best track from The Infonaut, but the whole album was a pleasant surprise. This is good goa from the glory days with tracks that haven't been beaten to f*cking death and worth a purchase.
  9. Artist: Various Title: Positive Alchemists Vol. 1 Label: Avigmatic Records Date: November, 2005 1. Goma - Intelligent Solution 7'30 2. Digicult - Infection 5'52 3. Optokoppler - Spacetravel 8'05 4. Vibe Tribe - Zimba 6'57 5. Cyber Cartel - Always 6'31 6. Ananda Shake - Pressure 8'33 7. 4 WindsCircle vs Electic Universe - 4Tune Circle 9'45 8. Avigmati - Password Request 7'42 9. Psynymph - Psycordia 7'17 10. Azriel - Akane Still Dreaming (remix 2005) 6'30 Ahhh....memories. Back before the goa trance resurgence this melodic compilation struck all the right chords with me. Hell, I even thought the colorful album art looked good. There's a lot going on there. Pixies with butterfly wings, a naked chick, and lots of colors. Compiled by a then unknown Khetzal and a still unknown DJ Chai this was full-on with a very strong goa flavor. Intelligent Solutions still sounds fresh today with it's many layers. Infection from Digicult has a very bouncy goa melody that has me imagining the beach in 1997. I sprt pf enjoyed 4 Tune Circle even though it took forever to get where it was going. Even the regular full-on like Spacetravel and Zimba has a shiny glow about it. It's still f iller, but at least it's shiny filler. Alas it hasn't really stood the test of time. There is just too much mediocrity here for this to have any long lasting value.
  10. Still love the expansive and lush properties this blurring between psy and progressive brings.
  11. Wow, you know where this conversation would be perfect? In the review thread. Just sayin.
  12. Artist: Phatmatix Title: The Divine Comedy Label: Yabai Records Date: December, 2008 1. Babylon Circus 2. Labyrinth 3. The Punishment 4. Beyond Reality (Live Mix) 5. The Void 6. Dominator 7. Hominus Nocturna 8. Melodreams 9. In Tenebris Ah I miss music like this. Unfortunately I don't believe he is making music any longer (same with the label sadly) and that is a great loss. Dark, evil, and hard hitting this is what nighttime psytrance should aspire to be. Phatmatix is Stephane Rault and his music is similar to another Frenchman called Concept. This is serial killer clown atmosphere with futuristic implications. That opening downtempo introduction drips with fear. He then launches into minor key acidic madness that continues the pervasive eerieness. This music lives and breathes and like a vengeful spirit it hunts. Grand and thematic in its depravity. I didn't care for his third and ultimately final album Eternalis, but this one and his debut Sorcery nailed it. I'd link to it, but since the label disappeared any of their releases have become quite difficult to locate, leaving one to the Discogs market.
  13. Artist: Sidhartha Title: Reverse Mode Label: Metatron Production Date: May, 2005 1. Reverse Mode 2. Motion Detector 3. Mars Arrival 4. Inner Voice 5. No Worries 6. Physical Form 7. Sudden Shifts 8. Deep Sonar 9. Psychotic Behaviour 10. Dance With The Stars Nuno Santos has a long history in the psytrance scene and is well known as a purveyor of the hard hitting acid style. This was his debut album that unfortunately is showing its age. It's dark full-on with plenty of psychedelic sounds and lasers, but lacks the punch and bombast of his own later work. The bass lines are a bit tiresome and most of the tracks sound very similar. Not really an enjoyable listen. But hey we all gotta start somewhere and he eventually turned it around. Beatspace
  14. Artist: Space Buddha & Toasted Title: Reality Check Label: Agitato Records Date: August, 2014 1. Connection To Psy 2. Nirvana (2014 Remix) 3. Reality Check 4. Drifter 5. Modo 6. DMT to Goa 7. Goa Sunrise 8. Last Chance 9. Straight Ahead It seems like some people never want to grow up and mature. I get it, you gotta get a job, gotta pay bills...Hell you can't even nuzzle in the soft, comforting confines of a woman's breasts that you just met. Cute as a toddler, but that's assault now. You'll face some hard time. Space Buddha has been around for a long time. He should really know better. This generic full-on pablum would've sounded dated a decade ago. Same tired, racing bass lines and cornball melodies. It's kiddie-glowstick music. Zero depth. Zero soul. The only positive here is that it's strictly a digital only release so other than the airwaves it didn't physically pollute the environment. Not that you needed it, but here's a reality check. This is some outright sh*tty music.
  15. Artist: Various Title: Salutation To The Planets Label: Altar Records Date: June, 2013 Salutation to the Planets remixed 8 times. Seriously. Ok. What do you do when you make a weak track that is uber repetitive? Sure that's the honorable thing, but how about just delete it? Or...and hear me out...invite a bunch of label mates over and see if they can clean up your mess. Suduaya is a French artist who has produced a bunch of quality work, but this track isn't close to his best. It was in that mid tempo range and ended up being annoying and very repetitive as I mentioned. That being said, it's the perfect opportunity to take something mediocre and totally transform it into a beautiful butterfly. I rant about this all the damn time. And with this digital release you get 8 cracks at it. Pretty good odds right? Talk about a lazy effort. Technically all the artists adhere to the definition of a remix as some things were different. And truth be told all of the tracks were superior to the original. The By the Rain remix added a dark and evil glitchiness that was greatly appreciated. The Landswitcher Remix had a Shponglesque quality to it. So what's my gripe? While I liked every track but the original they weren't that different that listening to this was tiresome. Take all the remixes and sprinkle them over a few compilations. Easier to digest. So the tracks are good, but as an album I'm afraid it fails. Opportunity missed.
  16. Artist: Suduaya Title: Unity Label: Altar Records Date: September, 2013 1. Suduaya & Irina Mikhailova - Sweetness 2. Suduaya & By The Rain - Silent Awareness 3. Zero Cult - Heartwork (Suduaya Remix) 4. Suduaya - Unity 5. Green Beats - 80's Technology (Suduaya Remix) 6. Suduaya - All Is Full of Light 7. Cabeiri - Voyager (Suduaya Remix) 8. Suduaya - Empty Your Mind (Feat. Amin) I've always been a sucker for great artwork and this one screams with mysticism and color. Suduaya is Louis-David Roquefere, a French psytrance and ambient artist who presents his third studio album. Like his previous efforts he combines both genres with a heavy basis in nature. Perhaps driving home the point that we on this planet are all one. It's very relaxing and gentle with all the tracks sounding well produced. He opens with the lush sounding Sweetness, an almost 13 minute journey that conjures up images of streaming sunlight as the wispy vocals of Irina Mikhailova float skyward. He blends real world instruments with electronica throughout the album. As I mentioned he creates both downtempo music as well as some light progressive trance like in his remix of Heartwork. The title track is an example of his foray into deep progressive which is quite hypnotic. Futuristic. The only one I didn't care for was the too tribal Empty Your Mind. The chanting was a little too much. Even though the depth and quality dip slightly in the second half it's still pretty good. Recommended. Altar Records Bandcamp
  17. "I put a cherry on top!" This fruit should be part of all y'all's diet. There's some really good stuff here. Melodic progressive surely (it is Tribal Vision after all), but there is some housey vibes (Martin Roth Remix of Drifting Planet), thumping techno beats (Kiwa Remix of Serial Groover), and a hard edged downtempo remix of L'Ivresse Des Profondeurs by BPC. I was disappointed by the VIbrasphere remix of Out of Orbit not because it was a bad track, but because they've produced such epic music that I felt it wasn't up to their usual level. Cool thing here is that this is what remixes are supposed to be about. You may not like the where the artists took some classic tracks, but there's no denying that they showed some creativity. Make it your own while retaining a little magic of the original.
  18. Sangoma Records is what Timecode morphed into when the South African psytrance gravy train ended. Their releases have focused on the darker, forest side of psytrance and haven't done much to move the needle for me. While I appreciate the above review in its detail and scope what it comes down to for me is that the tracks all follow the same pattern. Rampaging basslines with eerie night time sounds and percussive trickeration. But something about this compilation clicked. The sounds are bubbly and the atmosphere is hallucinatory. The kicks pound while the layers accumulate. The above reviewer was correct in labeling this a "wonderland of glitchery" and it works very well in most cases. Many tracks follow the Wildthings Records formula where melody isn't the primary focus. Lo and behold check out who was responsible for the mastering. I liked this compilation even though there wasn't a single track that floored me; it was just consistently good. I would say the only downside when making music without something to grab on to is that there is the potential for it to get a little boring. With that in mind it's a good compilation, but I'm still waiting for Sangoma to deliver that heavy, lush, psychedelic monster.
  19. Artist: Various Title: Fractal Energy Label: Fractal Records Date: February, 2007 1. Electric Universe - Shift 2. Neuromotor Vs. Electrocult - Humamacumadi 3. Outer Signal - Alien Signal 4. Painkiller Vs. Puzzle - Invalid Extension 5. Sidhartha - The Sleepwalker 6. Madnetic - Jungle Groove 7. Kali - Travelizer 8. Chromatone Vs. Random - Lighter Than Light 9. Elec3 - Purple Shrimp 10. Hexagnum - The Poem What is it with these compilations that just mail it in as the you go deeper down the tracklist? Seems it was a common practice with a lot of labels, but let's be honest there's a lot wrong with this compilation. Right from the outset we get a track from legend Boris Blenn that sounds identical to almost every track he's been making for a decade. Taking a sabbatical might not be the worst thing for him at this point. Moving on I defy you to make it through Humanacumadi without wanting to trip a toddler. It's ruthless in its annoyance. Next we are subjected to "full-on with an edge" clones that don't succeed in either category. This includes Invalid Extension with it's insipid sample, touch tones, and bass line made me want to dig up Alexander Graham Bell and punch his corpse. How in the f*ck does that get past quality control? Somehow I have two physical copies and it's the equivalent of leaving a bag of poo on my doorstep whilst you ring the bell and hide behind a bush. Often I wonder why I continue to review so many deeply flawed albums when there's porn to be watched and sh*ts to be taken, but I always come back to the same answer. I do it for you. 20. Artist: Various Title: Feel the Force Label: Spectral Records Date: June, 2005 1. Twisted System - Die Nagmerrie (Menog Remix) 2. Khopat - Alien Explorer 3. Shift - Serius Problem 4. Phyx Vs. Menog - Danian 5. Menog - Spiritual 00 (Audialize Remix) 6. Tryambaka - Filth 7. XRC - Medusa 8. Spectra - Borealis 9. Probe - Probe Feel the force. Hmmm....ok, a simple equation ought to sum things up nicely. = X Massively small tiny hands multiplied by a super slow acceleration will guarantee the survival of drosophila melanogaster. Probably the first time that classification was used in a review. While the label begun by Menog & XRC has had it's great moments this one is mostly a miss. The three tracks worth your while will be the bombastic and aggressive offerings from Shift, Phyx & Menog, and of course Twisted System. Pure acid mayhem. Things truly go off the rails by the time you get to Spectra and ends in a dumpster fire of a track by a project called Probe. Same last name as Menog so I'm sensing some nepotism is afoot. As I said mostly a miss aside from those three bangers. Psyshop
  21. Artist: Manifold Title: Digital Sun Label: Ektoplazm Date: June, 2016 1. Manifold - The Wolf (Part II) 2. Manifold - What Time Is Love (2016 Edition) 3. Manifold - F-five 4. Manifold - Hated 5. Manifold - Voinamirov (Ektoplazm Edition) 6. Manifold & Dissociactive - Mara (RNKH 2016 edit) 7.Manifold - Faces (Ektoplazm Edition) 8.Manifold - Links234 (Ektoplazm Edition) "Look around you...what do those faces tell you?" *Shudder* Look I expect grandpa Eastwood to hate this. Probably makes his hearing aid whistle and it was made by Russians. This is what they came up with after a 7 year absence? Eight tracks and only one of them (Hated I think) hasn't appeared on other compilations? But Mike, they were reworked and remastered!" Who the f*ck asked for that? Was there a crowdfunding page where the masses wanted to hear remastered mediocre tracks? This was the same guy who was responsible for the tech-trance monster Acid Box? Lots of questions and not many answers. This was an utter sh*tshow. House vocals, cheesy samples, and eye rolling phrases. It's full-on and not even well done full-on. You're kidding right? Am I getting punked? Ashton, come out man, this isn't funny anymore. Just a few quick notes: Voinamorov has that Nexus Media vibe to it, but that makes sense because it was released on the Midnight Storm II compilation. Even though I thought it was a good track that was 11 years ago, you don't get credit for that sh*t! Reworked and remastered? Sounds almost identical. Faces had almost every atrocious cliche that you can imagine. It's what makes people think psytrance is dead. That should've been buried when it appeared on the Edge compilation. And the "rocking" guitar of the final track was so 10 years ago. Look it's a free release and they are entitled to do whatever they want. But if you're gonna pimp some old tracks generally they should be improved. Miss me with this. Mystic Sound Bandcamp
  22. Artist: Mindsphere Title: Mental Triplex - Mindream Label: Suntrip Records Date: March, 2017 1. Solitude 2. Circle Sphere 3. Seclusion 4. Fate 5. Orientelic Genetic 6. Serenity 7. Respiratory 8. Reformation 9. Far Away About a year after his last album Presence, this limited edition partially mixed CD is the second installment of the Mindsphere Trilogy. Of course you can also buy the digital version which is unmixed. Joske described it as "Drony, sometimes warm, sometimes cold, floating and here and there exotic!" And I would say that is a very apt description. Mindsphere is Ali Akgun and he is one of the premier names in today's goa trance scene. Solitude is a deep space ambient track that seems to have some Jean Michel Jarre influences. Dark and cold. Circle Sphere continues the futuristic and electronic cold of deep space. There is more motion with the inclusion of multiple melodies amidst a digital wash. Louder with more gravitas and drama yet still without a kick to be heard. Seclusion has an ominous air and the first hint of percussion, perhaps the booming of the sound barrier as the space craft leaves the atmosphere. The melodies are melancholy and bring to mind an astronaut on a solo mission thousands of miles away from home. And here is where I detect some Vangelis influence. Fate is a purely drifting vehicle. Ambient bliss that increases in intensity, but never loses that floaty feeling. Orientelic Genetic sounds like a word salad, but it's when his goa begins to shine through. It's also the first real, perceptible "beat." The flute is mysterious and the entire track resembles some Khetzal production. Downtempo goa trance that becomes quite busy. Serenity is just that, tumbling melodies and soft, gentle sounds that are well suited for catching a nap. Much like I did when listening to Tangerine Dream back in the day. Respiratory is another downtempo track that has a soundtrack feel to it. It's grand and many layered. Maybe a movie about a war where people pilot Mech Warriors. There is a tinge of regret here. The weird thing is the "supposed" ending where the music stops and then a new strain appears. Perhaps that transition could've been smoother. Reformation is probably my least favorite track on the album. It doesn't fit with the style of the rest of the album and feels like a mish mosh of sounds above an oscillating sine wave. Far Away fittingly ends on a beatless note. Unfortunately the track doesn't have the same verve and depth that a lot of the others had. It just kind of...is. It's gentle yet doesn't tell any story. At the 6 minute mark it leaves the flighty style and changes completely, resembling the atmosphere of most of the album. And without any subtlety. This is such a relaxing experience. I literally felt my blood pressure dropping as I prepared for hypersleep. A large portion is beatless ambient and I can see why Suntrip went with a limited edition for this release. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but like others have said it's very lush and floaty. Dude clearly has talent. However I felt the album failed to maintain its theme near the end and the quality and mood suffered because of it. While I found it enjoyable I would recommend people to give it a good listen to find out if this is what they're looking for. Suntrip Bandcamp Suntrip Shop

I think you will discover exactly where it is stopped with this compilation. This was from the pre-millenium days of 3D vision and let's be honest it sounds a little dated. That said there is some goodness found here. Nomad & Absolum team up for a hallucination that is constantly evolving. The sound picture is kind of limited, but it's not bad. The Systembusters (GMS + Lotus Omega) get pretty drippy and psychedelic. Sure the track pretty much repeats the same loop over and over again, but who's counting? Wizzy crafts a dark track and one that I think holds up the best. Goldfinger is electric and crackling energy and just as quickly is broken down. A little heavy on the scream sample, but not a deal breaker. No, that comes next. Insert deal breaker. Clearly 3.Turn did not use any means necessary to make a deep track. More like just enough to get by. Zergshake is just noises amidst a kick and bassline. Deedrah's track was different, but hardly in an engaging way. Some drum n bass and dub along with some trance into a weird mixture. Don't need to hear that again. Black Sun was consistently boring and then there was the Kangaroo. Oh, the f*cking kangaraoo. *hits blunt* "Dude...if you get out of the shower all clean and shit...how does your towel get dirty?" That track is terrible and goes nowhere. It's so slow and makes me want to ask questions like that. Don't do drugs kids. Wow did that fade quickly. You can actually pinpoint the moment where the compilation went from interesting to GTFOH.
