  1. Yeah, that is my feeling as well. I thought the cover was pretty cool.
  2. I don't care for his music (yet) but I think the cover is very cool. Mdk
  3. Vibrasphere- Exploring the Tributaries. Wow. Just...wow. :posford: Mdk
  4. Alien Protein no question. I wish they would go back to that music, but I hear they insist on being stubborn. I think an Etnica goa album would sell well. Mdk
  5. Artist: Hydrogen Title: Starting Point Label: Moonsun Records Release: April, 2007 01. 8’59” Duduki Dance (Dub Mix) 02. 6’29” Made To Measure 03. 6’57” Balanced Dancing 04. 8’42” Acid’n’Dance 05. 7’53” Follow You (Remix) 06. 6’48” World of Vision 07. 7’32” Starting Point 08. 8’24” Keep Rolling 09. 7’00” Mimona Day (Downtempo) This is my first experience with Moonsun Records. It seems like they have some dark leanings but also some chill-out tendencies. I picked this up because with the exception of the color on the cover, that looks like my sub woofer. Yep, that’s it. This is Avishey Terdiman (must’ve been tough growing up with that name). I heard good things about his first release Crazy Fantasy, but have yet to pick that up. All in due time I suppose. Let’s get to it! Duduki Dance (Dub Mix)- Smooth ambient dub is what we have here. Beautiful strings with various flutterings and Middle Eastern melodies dominate. This track flows smoothly over synths and feathery strings. There is a melancholy feel to it, and it is an absolute gem of a chill out track. Outstanding track! :clapping: Made To Measure- Wow, wasn’t expecting that first track. Slow down usually comes at the end of the disc. This one has a nice buildup to a rampaging bass line. Synths are added one by one, until the break that is seamless. The lead out of the break snakes to another break and then has the crap filtered out of it. Nice! Balanced Dancing- With a stutter step bass line and a filtered lead we are on our way. He seems to enjoy playing with the cutoff knob and that is fine by me. There are several leads going as the break opens above soft sting pads. I like how he changes from lead to lead without missing a beat. Great track! Acid’n’Dance- With kind of an ambient start, a bass line forces its way to the front. Metallic leads scrape your ears as a new melody emerges from the break continuing the groovy feel. When the 303 roars itself awake, let it take you. Very good track! Follow You (Remix)- Muted break beat drums below an ethereal pad give this track a “wait and see” feel. The melodic chimes are wispy as a bass lead rumbles underneath. A shimmering lead sparkles but it’s missing something. While I think this is a good track, I think the ideas could’ve been more fleshed out as there were some elements of cheese. I would call this trance rather than psy. Not a bad listen though! World of Vision- There is nothing remarkable about this track with the exception of good production. No real highs or lows, it just…goes. Average. Starting Point- The title track, so this should shine. There is some chanting in a foreign language at the outset with some nature sounds in the background. The melody is soft and the emotion is soothing. The synths continue rolling as a light piano melody plays far off in the distance. This is smooth and relaxing, just right for an afternoon at the beach. Great track! Keep Rolling- Soft chopped up synths and a light guitar melody create a mellow mood. And that is what this track does, keeps rolling. The groove is not complex and there is about not really wanting something, but the fantasy of wanting it. The chopped up synths come back and I am just chillin’ in the cut. I would’ve liked a little more…thickness but still a nice track! Mimona Day (Downtempo)- So…I guess this is a downtempo track. A twisting synth rolls across some nice chilled atmosphere. The groove is maintained as new leads come and go. Nice ending! Summary: This was a nice surprise. He really has a sense of how to keep the flow of the track going. This is very melodic and carves a danceable path in the sea of cheese and mediocrity. His junctions between breaks are seamless and the sounds are super clear showing his skills as a producer. This is not in your face acidic power trance but what I would call “mellow trance.” Like I mentioned before, perfect for a lazy afternoon watching the waves come in. People, get this now. There is so much music out there that is average at best, but this reaffirms my faith in the scene. 8.5/10 Mdk
  6. Artist: Various Title: League of Shadows Label: Noize Conspiracy Records Release: May, 2007 Track Listing: 01. 7’57” Abomination – Revelations 02. 8’14” Digital Talk – The Keeper 03. 7’55” Delysid – League of Shadows 04. 7’53” Seroxat – Dark Days 05. 8’16” Phatmatix – Mind Manipulation 06. 7’31” Azax Syndrom – Replica (Abomination Rmx) 07. 7’19” Fungus Funk - Noise Waveform 08. 6’52” Frozen Ghost vs. Hiyarant – Lockdown 09. 7’34” Wicca – California Nightmare Looking at this release, I love everything about it. The cover art is spectacular with the vibrant colors and the spooky, forked tongue blue and black-eyed face. The artists are a who’s who is banging night-time psytrance. And lastly, the label is gaining a reputation for high quality releases. Anyone who has read my reviews knows that I am a big fan of most of these artists. So let’s get to it! Abomination – Revelations- You know I loves me some Abomination! Bam, right off the bat with a guitar type lead into a galloping bass line. The metallic lead weaves its way above the bass as it gets turned and twisted. The melody at the end is full and thick and I am in serious groove mode. Great track! Digital Talk – The Keeper- Nice to see Julien and Luc back at it as this is their 3rd release this year. Each of those has been spot on so they are moving in the right direction. Dark beginnings as you can feel something lurking in the shadows. Lasers pop from left and right keeping me on my toes. See that? That is my ass wiggling. The break allows for a re-set but flows silky smooth. Great track for keeping the butts moving! Delysid – League of Shadows- Yes I know I didn’t like their debut Noize Infection but I have found their compilation work to be stronger. Besides, it’s the title track, so it has to be good. Right? The bass line scrambles ahead as lazy leads give pursuit. The metallic lead is all over the place, as the strings replace it after the break. When the track is near the end, the leads are intertwined and create a funky mix. Good track. Seroxat – Dark Days- I don’t know what to make of this act. Is he dark, or light with dark energy? The bass line rumbles like a machine gun and I’m caught up in the spooky melody. The track is really catchy, but the female voice speaking is slightly cheesy. Good track! Phatmatix – Mind Manipulation- I think Stephane should be called King Midas as everything he produces turns to gold. He continues here with an outright smasher. With a heavy kick and a bass line with purpose, he assaults the ears with unrelenting lasers. A low pitched lead is filtered to death as another synth washes across your consciousness. The break brings a new melody with just as much tension as a screeching lead takes you as far as you can stand. Outstanding! :posford: Azax Syndrom – Replica (Abomination Rmx)- This is a remake of Regev’s 2005 track by the Abomination crew. The original was good in its own right but I like this version better. The lead is whip like as it…holy shit I just saw someone set the record by eating 21 lbs. of grits? 21lbs?!? That’s like eating a 2 year old! Anyway, this one is non-stop, giving no rest to your ears. The leads are plenty and there isn’t a dull moment. Great track! Fungus Funk - Noise Waveform- So far, nothing this project has done has bowled me over but don’t think I hate Russia. I felt bad when Chernobyl happened but was also glad that we had Matthew Broderick there investigating earthworm health. And I plan to see the Russian gangster movie Eastern Promises. So cut me some slack ya Lenin sympathizers. I did like it when Billy Joel went to Russia. That was pretty cool back in the day. This track has a simple bass line and metallic sounds that are almost to the point of being unlistenable. So far Mr. Funk is 100% in getting me to not want to hear his music. :wank: Frozen Ghost vs. Hiyarant – Lockdown- “You’re acting like a pack of rabid dogs!” Mr. Ghost’s new album Edible Technique is out now and I can’t wait to hear it. He teams up with Hiyarant (who also has an album to come out in the near future) and begins with a soft bass line. There is a post-apocalyptic feel here with the sounds and I’m digging it! You can hear that distinct FG lead as the break arrives. There are lasers aplenty in a barrage that attacks above the crisp bass. Awesome track! :posford: Wicca – California Nightmare- This one start of with a “California Dreaming” sample and then descends into darkness. There are plenty of moaning women sounds as well as the customary dark leads and simple bass line. There are some nice strings in this track which give it a very spooky quality. I usually stay away from Dark Psy but this was rather enjoyable. Good track! Summary: I really enjoyed this compilation. The tracks were full of heavy beats and great melodies. You can see the latter portion of this disc heads in the dark direction, but the mood throughout is dark. If you’re looking for uplifting trance, keep walking. Aside from 1 track the ride was great. I will continue to keep my eye on this label as I hope for more good offerings in the future. 8.5/10. Mdk
  7. Artist: Pitch Hikers Title: Sting Label: Nexus Media Release: August, 2007 Track Listing: 01. Can't Please Everyone 02. Creation 03. Valhalla 04. Taste Our Medicine 05. Wormhole 06. Rattlesnake 07. Mud & Guts 08. Infinite Nature 09. Columbia (Remix) There are a few labels out there that I will buy whatever they try and sell me. Timecode, 3D vision, and Nexus Media. These labels make the insane, beat heavy melody driven psytrance that I love. Pitch Hikers is Shift (Chris Hoy) and Slug (Liam Gibbs) from South Africa. I reviewed Shift's latest Alternator and that was an awesome ride. The last Pitch Hikers album Twilight Zone was a delight and I hope the same for this release. Let's get to it! Can't Please Everyone- Ain't that the truth! This is pretty standard stuff right up to the break that brings absolute silence. A new melody flowers above the bass line and then it reaches its filtered peak. Not a whole lot to describe really. Powerful without a lot of variation. Creation- Once again, pretty standard stuff on the dark side of things. Big kick, rumbling bass line and some sharp leads. The break brings back the soft Detroit-like pad, and soon we are off again. I feel there is a too much dead air in this track. Also, I'm not a big fan of the key change. Average track. Valhalla- Ah yes, the ancient hall of Odin in Norse mythology. I would love to visit Norway one day. This track begins as the previous two have, with full-on bass lines and psy sounds from all around. The break brings a moment of peace with a soft string pad which is short lived. The melody at 4:30 sounds familiar but I can't place it. When it gets going with the beat behind it, it sounds quite nice. Good track! Taste Our Medicine- So far their medicine isn't having the desired effect. This one sounds a lot like the other tracks. Galloping bass line, metallic leads, but this one gives a little more to focus upon. Thank you, yes, there is the acid I have been waiting for! The break sounds quite dark, as if something is crawling about in the shadows. As it winds down it all comes together for a pretty good track. However, I again didn't like the key change at the end. Wormhole- This one gave me the feeling that it would keep growing. It would rise only to fall back down again. All part of the buildup I suppose. I will say I enjoyed the latter half of the track more than the former. The 2nd half is truly pumping! Again not a whole lot of twisted melodies, but the ones that are there are very thick. Good track! Rattlesnake- The beginning lead here is nice and shiny as is cascades over the grumbling bass line. The break brings a forlorn melody that is replaced with more industrial slams. I like the mood here, and this track does change up a bit. The shiny lead comes back and I am in groove mode. But again, what's with the key changes? Enough already! Good track that was weakened by the last bit. Mud & Guts- There is a nice bass line here but more of the same sounds and dead air. I like the melody at the 3:39 mark as it slams into the break. The tribal drums right out of that break are cool, but other than that, nothing special. Infinite Nature- We start out with a gurgling lead just ahead of the bass line. There are some interesting parts here, but once again, too much dead air. The parts of the tracks that are full, are grandiose. The 2nd half of this track brings a nice melody and the full power I have been yearning for. Very good track! Columbia (Remix)- I liked this track a lot when I first heard it so it will be interesting to see what they can do to improve it. We'll call me Johnny Skeptical but this one is just as good as the original. Lots of power, dark atmospheric leads, and an all out banger! Best track on the album! :posford: Summary: Sad to say, I was disappointed in this release. I was expecting full-power acid insanity, but that just didn't happen. The tracks aren't bad, but when the bar is raised so high, it is difficult to maintain that type of quality. Maybe they do their best work as solo artists. You know what they say about too many cooks. While the beats were good, I felt they could've been more powerful with more intricate melodies. I found myself waiting to see what would develop only to find that nothing developed. A lot more variation in melody and sounds wouldn't have hurt either. I know this sounds like I am trashing it, but I don't want to leave you with that impression. This is a good CD, it just could've been better. 7.5/10 Mdk
  8. Artist: Various Title: Samurai Label: Yabai Records Release: April, 2007 Track Listing: 01. 8’41†Digital Talk & Outer Signal – No Rules 02. 7’21†Abomination – Paradive 03. 6’40†Pychotic Micro – No Going Back 04. 6’55†B-55 & Frozen Ghost- Disengage 05. 7’38†Earworm – Activation 06. 6’40†Toxic – Crossing Swords 07. 8’52†Phatmatix - Samurai 08. 7’02†Frozen Ghost – Giggly Twig 09. 8’00†Technodrome – Liquid Night I was hunting for this one when it first came out, but it was out of stock for the longest time. It wasn’t until this summer that I was able to get it from Psyshop. To say my expectations of this compilation are high is like saying the Bush administration is devious and misleading. With all the stars on this disc, it’s like looking up at the constellations. Yabbai has put out the first Frozen Ghost album and the brilliant Phatmatix disc, so they obviously know quality. I’m going to do this review backwards from the last track to the first. Why? Because I’m psychotic. And schizophrenic. Did I mention I also have ADHD? Let’s get to it! Technodrome – Liquid Night- I really liked the Ninja Turtle album, it was pure power. With this track, the bass line drives as various sounds pop in and out of earshot. There is one sound (orchestra hit) that is repeated ad nauseum and gets old fast. By the 4’20 mark (hehe, got some?) we have lots of leads and rising sounds. When the break comes, a new (or the first) melody becomes apparent and then joins with more leads to create a power packed intense ride. Pretty good track to end er, I mean begin. Frozen Ghost – Giggly Twig- FG has their new album Edible Technique coming out (Barry really like to eat I guess) so let’s see what he brings. With a deep bass line and some screams I think I know what I’m in for. Lots of atonal sounds put together in a groovy way is how I would describe this. The bass is thumping, and the leads defy you to keep your head still when this rages onward. Great track! Phatmatix – Samurai- Stephane’s album Sorcery for me was an instant classic with super powerful beats and dark melodies. Another ripping bass line, and some alien voices give me the creeps as he picks up where he left off. The sounds are crystal clear and there is never a dull moment as my mental groove continues. This is not going to help my psychoses. The cool thing here is that with every change in tempo or melody, it’s seamless. Hey, is that guy looking at me? You know don’t you? Excuse me, I need to get a screwdriver, Major League Baseball is spying on me and I need to get the tracking device out of my skull. Loud noises! Toxic – Crossing Swords- Crossing swords. Samurai. I get it. Another deep bass line and ominous synths dominate this track. I like the break with its electro and glitch leanings. I don’t know what the sample said, but who cares he wasn’t talking to me. Was he? He was wasn’t he? Now I look stupid. This track thunders on and is a good banger! Earworm – Activation- “All personnel prepare for activation!†I don’t know who this is, but I think this is his only release. All I can think of is that Star Trek Movie when that little creature is put I his helmet by Khan. Khan!!!! This one doesn’t get going until 2 minutes or so but that’s ok. I like my meat to marinate. There are several space samples and a good dose of acid to keep it moving. I liked it, not too complex but tasty! B-55 & Frozen Ghost- Disengage- B-55 are a Japanese duo and how can you call your comp Samurai without the Japanese? They join with Barry here as a bouncing bass line rumbles underneath a glassy pad. That distinctive FG sound is front and center, amid some samples from a bad movie. They work here though, as his forte I suppose is pure power. I have been washing my hands for 40 minutes and I just…cannot…get the funk off. Very good track! Pychotic Micro – No Going Back- “All I know is it feels like my skull is splitting in half.†Preaching to the choir brother. I was disappointed in their last album. Well, except for the cover art. That was cool. I found the bass line in this one kinda weak, and they used the same lead sound all over their album. The final synth riff gets on my nerves with it’s repetition. Not a bad track, but it doesn’t stand up to the others on this disc. Abomination – Paradive- “What have you learned in nine hours? Ok. I think it’s a keyhole virus. A keyhole virus? Yeah. A virus targeted at a specific DNA sequence. So it’s targeted at one person? People…I think. A race, even a species.†As I’ve said before, I loves me some Abomination. The sample sets the stage as the bass line does its superman thing. The leads are sticky at first, then metallic to drive home the point. I like the string, sort of otherworldly. I would’ve liked some more variation, but with the great sample and heavy beat, still a very good track. Digital Talk & Outer Signal – No Rules- Last track on this disc, and that’s good, because I need some Ketamin. And Lithium. Some Clonazepam would be nice. I am looking forward to the return of Digital Talk and here we go. We have a start and stop beginning with the sounds being pristine above the churning bass line. A low lead growls from the depths as it is filtered nicely. Groove factor high. The tempo changes time and flows smartly into another melody. Superb! Summary: This is a recommendation of the highest order. Awesome compilation. If you like power, frenetic leads, melodies and a dark feel to your music, then get your ass to the internet and order it. All the tracks sound great, and it was worth the wait. I’m going to get three more copies. One for Mr. McPicklebutter, life hasn’t been the same since his involuntary commitment. One for Dr. Honeynipple, although since she surgically removed her ears, I don’t know how she can hear it. Maybe the vibrations. And lastly my good friend Smokynutz. I think I will send him his though. He likes to bite. A lot. 9/10 Kdm
  9. Artist: Various Title: Motion Sensor Label: Sonic Motion Records Release: June, 2007 Track Listing: 01. 5’13†Atyss – Epsilon 02. 7’05†Phonic Request vs. Principles of Flight – French Mad Cook 03. 7’59†Abomination vs. Outer Signal – The Trooper 04. 7’29†Noisy Pipes – Chox 05. 6’50†Atyss – T Virus 06. 9’12†Triskell – Yasse 07. 8’08†Digital Talk – Building Senses 08. 7’20†Deeper In Zen – Awareness 09. 7’53†Aodioboa – Mounpiersz Sonic Motion Records from France brings us Motion Sensor compiled by Atyss. He is an artist that also runs the label. That’s all I’ve got. Once again I was snookered by the cover. Pretty ain’t it? I chose this one to review because a few acts I fancy are in it obviously. Did I mention the cover was pretty? I’ll be honest here, I got a pizza coming in about 20 minutes, so I’m more about the pepperoni than the music right now. I’ll be back later to give you the scoop on this pretty compilation. Let’s get to it…after pizza. Atyss – Epsilon- This track has a full on bass line and various psy sounds which create a very modern feel. The break at 2’30†is nice with a staggering lead and eerie strings. It bounces along nicely, but it is a short track so I can’t say a whole lot about it. Nice start though. Phonic Request vs. Principles of Flight – French Mad Cook- This makes me think of the movie Ratatouille. Didya see that one? Cute. Wilfried has put out a bunch of tracks and POF released an album Night Time Lullabies that I haven’t heard yet. I wasn’t too impressed with this one. There isn’t a whole lot going on and sounds like average full-on to me. Abomination vs. Outer Signal – The Trooper- I likes me some Abomination and tracks from Outer Signal have caught my attention. It begins with a sharp bass line and a gloomy atmosphere. The acid comes in amid rising strings right to the break. It’s a short break as we are rising again and the lead melody afterward is nice and dirty. I feel it could’ve had more power but a very good track nonetheless. Noisy Pipes – Chox- I believe this is a dark psy artist and anyone who has a track titled â€Noisy Creepy Crap†is ok in my book! The bass line is hard and the mood is assuredly dark, like walking through a haunted house. A metallic lead enters late and shuffles along with the creepy vibe. And that’s pretty much how it goes. Good track! Atyss – T Virus- “Nothing…ever…changes.†Mr Atyss again, with some thick leads just before a bass line rambles in. With various percussive elements and slight synths this thing slams! I love the sample and some creepy child talking about experiments. I’m sure I’ve seen the movie but they tend to run together after awhile. This guy brings some acid of his own to create a nice, dark groove. Nice work! Triskell – Yasse- I was a little late on the Triskell train but I’m all aboard now. This one starts with a “alone†type feeling, having a ringing gong. It’s not long until the bass comes in and a funky lead dances about the track. The break has some nice percussive touches that continue. As the track progresses, sounds melt together in a wonderful cacophony of sound! Outstanding track with plenty of atmosphere and danceability! :posford: Digital Talk – Building Senses- “We have made in secret several technological advances.†I like a lot of other folks have been waiting for their 2nd album with great anticipation. Still waiting. The bass line creates a funky groove with a short chirpy lead. As more leads join the fray, the funkometer is off the charts! If this is the direction that their music is going sign me up! This is a ripping tack! :clapping: Deeper In Zen – Awareness- I recently reviewed their latest effort Silence and this one wastes no time with the rhythm. Industrial pads sound ominously against the shuffling bass line. The dark mood is maintained as the melancholy melody weaves amidst laser shots. This is another cracker of a track. This comp sure has built up some powerful momentum. See that…that’s half the pizza uneaten. Aodioboa – Mounpiersz- Ok right of the bat this is a grammatical mess. I have no idea how to pronounce the artist or the tack. This one starts off quite mellow with synth pads and an underlying percussive beat. The sting melody comes from far away and is haunting as is the pipe lead. This is a dark Downtempo track that is very tasty and a nice way to end. Summary: Wow, I am very impressed with this compilation. It is dark but not mindlessly so. There are plenty of melodies here to enjoy, but that sense of isolation is maintained throughout the tracks. There have been quite a lot of releases as of late that just go through the motions, but this is not one of them. The tracks are all well produced and go deeper than the 4/4 kick and bass line with the hi-hats on the 2 beat. This collection entranced me, so much so that I have to put the pizza back in the oven. I swear the guy who brought me this mess took a slice. 8.5/10 Mdk
  10. Artist: Freaked Frequency Title: FF Syndrome Label: Noga Records Release: September, 2007 Track Listing 01. 7’44†Say 02. 6’46†Light Beams 03. 7’22†Elevation with Alternative Control 04. 6’51†Against the Machines 05. 8’02†FF Syndrome 06. 7’46†Saw 07. 6’59†Night Mode 08. 8’34†Dreamer 09. 7’26†The Flow 10. 7’24†Landing I don’t know a lot about this project, but I know they are from Serbia and I loved, absolutely loved their track Emoticon on the V/A Exotica. This album is hyped as being creative and uplifting full-on but it doesn’t say anything at all about cheese. So hopefully, if promotion is to be believed (stop it) there won’t be any. Now if you go by the Discogs database and see what Noga has put out, you might want to walk the other way. But not me. I’m too lazy to walk. Let’s get to it! Say- Anyone else think of that Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney track? Anyone? Bah, that was the jam back in the day. When Michael was normal. And black. And…human. Space age chimes ring overhead before a short string riff (I Iike that) brings us to tha bass. The break has a far away lead that closes in and then another synth takes the lead. At the next break, there is a house like bass that swarms from underneath, sounds cool. The synth at the end is melodic and brings the chimes back into play. Very good track! Light Beams- You know we have a restaurant here in NC called “High Beams?†I will give you 3 guesses what part of the female anatomy they play off of. Nimble leads swirl above a deep bass and I feel funky. The break has a very short guitar riff and then the bass takes a real funky turn and it got me twisting. This is another good pumping bit of psytrance. Great track! Elevation (with Alternative Control)- An ominous piano melody sets the spooky tone as a bass line churns underneath. Short synth stabs delicately tap your ears and then a thunderous bass line kicks you right in the pills. Man I love what they do at the break with the slowly evolving bass and the break beat! The track finishes up almost as it began with the piano chiming in the distance. Awesome track! Against the Machines- Losing battle these days buddy. A soft, chopped up voice sadly wails quietly as the bass hammers on. The leads switch up and create a pretty good groove. When the final lead comes out to play, my head is bobbing. Good track! FF Syndrome- If I had one gripe it would be the title of the album. It is either mind numbingly simple or they think they are ushering in a new era of psytrance. Well, I vote for the latter, because so far the tracks have been great. There is that wind instrument that cries, cries Middle Eastern vibe! I love that! High pitched piano tones dance above the growing beat allowing the bass line to move at it’s own pace. The synths rise to the break and the bass line changes forcing you to take notice. Funky! The piano melody atop the gurgling bass is super catchy! All I can think of is Saiko Sounds line “Life is too short for boring music.†They are right. Super track! Saw- I’m going into this thinking I’m going to hear a bunch of samples from the movie. Wrong. A beautiful guitar melody resonates above the meandering bass line. This one track seems of a lower volume and I don’t know why. Maybe it’s the tones used. Ripples and drags, that’s how I would describe the bass here. The break at 4’19†sounds so smooth with a filtered lead growing in intensity. And then it hits me: saw is the wave of the bass. Very good track! Night Mode- Crawling from the silent depths is a heavy bass and kick. And again, the nervous, unsure of where you are, slightly frightened feeling is present. It has been through all the tracks. And brother I like it. The synths twist and twirl about each other as the beginning tones sound off from a very far away place. When it all comes together, we have a heavy danceable track. Great track! Dreamer- The guitar here makes me feel like I am in the afternoon desert. Growly bass roars at me as a soft wind instrument flutters beneath quick tones. This is what I am talking about. So much to focus on! Yum-Yum! The synths are frenzied as they attempt to keep up with the swaying bass. This one has so much and yet still brings the power. Another very good track! The Flow- Damnit, Phil Spector jury is deadlocked. Mistrial! Celebrities…what a waste. I would love to kick them all in the nuts. Teeth for the females. Anyway, this track seems slower with strings searing in and out. The mood is still intense, almost manic. The bass wobbles, the synths are sharp, and the guitar is the best part for me. It just fits. Good track. Landing- Ahhhh, I can feel the waves tickling my toes. The bass line struts with the confidence of a gangster, like when someone knows something you don’t. The popcorn like lead pops along above a smooth guitar. The break makes me tip my hat, as the sun dips ever lower. These guys are great at interposing guitar melody in their tracks. Flawless! Summary: I wasn’t sure what I was going to get with this release. Some may say this is boring full-on, even commercial trance, but I disagree. It is very melodic and also very powerful. Everything sounds very…epic. The melodies aren’t uplifting but rather the opposite. It has that Paul Van Dyk feel but the difference here is that the tracks continue to change and never flirt with the housey genre. Make no mistake however…this is dance music. I think this is just as involved and deep as the brilliant Mr Peculiar album, (which I reviewed). It is outstandingly produced good work. The ear is never bored with plenty of sounds and rhythms to focus on. This is the same way I felt when I first heard Lamat’s Master Control album. And that is high praise. Great job boys on an instant classic. :posford: 9.5/10 Mdk

Shift vs. Abomination - Aftermath 05. Abomination - Pusherman 06. Neuromotor - Virtual Memory 07. Delysid - Rajasthan Army (Remix) 08. I-Dna - Psycho Bitch 09. Audialize - Contact Holy crap will you look at that track list! Concept, Phyx, Shift, Abomination, Audialize...how do you type drool? Clean up on aisle 4, I think I wet myself! This is some assemblage of artists here on a compilation compiled by DJ Shiva Moon. I have never heard of Rudraksh records, hell I don't even know how to pronounce it. But there are plenty of things I can't pronounce that I like. For example: any Czech model. That, however, is not going to stop me from giving this a good listen. I do hope this lives up to expectations. Besides, I don't think my neurons are as deep fried as they could be. Let's get to it! Concept - Electro Undulation- I love this project. For my money (I don't have much) they are the best thing going in powerful mind scrambling psytrance right now. Both of their albums kicked major ass. We begin with a Resident Evil sample (I have no idea which one, all but the first sucked ass) and a thumping bass line and kick. The atmosphere is dark as a synth line undulates above the beat. The acid whets you, sticks to you like gum on the asphalt. This track punches you in the mouth and then feels up your girlfriend. Awesome start! Phyx - Fatality- Another one of my favorite artists, Ian Summs aims for a Fatality. A low, growling bass line builds the foundation as sprite lasers flit about. The melody gives the feeling of melancholy, the absence of all hope. It's very simple and is always on the downward turn. Listen and you will know what I mean. This track created a hopeless atmosphere, but I feel the melody could've been more intricate, thereby fleshing out the track. It's long and there aren't a lot of surprises. He can do better, but a good track nonetheless. Tryambaka - My Black Angel- Tiago Pimental brings us this offering and it has gotten a lot of good reviews. The bass line key changes are interesting, and the lead that vibes along with them is quite good. I felt the sample was on the cheesy side, but it was short-lived. The track then goes both feet into the Darkpsy territory. People who like the night-time Darkpsy will love this and daytimers will like it because it still has a nice, strong melody you can bounce to. Not a bad track! Shift vs. Abomination -Aftermath- "My God brother what have you done?" Two of my favorite artists here, begin with an Underworld Evolution sample. The track slowly rises as a lead slashes tentatively across your ears. The bass is heavy and before long the lead becomes bolder. After the break the lead hops on the back of the bass and the distorted vocal sample to create a wall of sound. Sorry Phil Spector, you bonzo headed freak show. He's going to jail. You know that right? The last part of the track is pure power and acid, so pucker up cookie puss! Great track! Abomination - Pusherman- "They came the first night that we got here. They took three of us. Nothing happened for two weeks. Then they came back and took nine more. They"re smart. They"re animals. They could be anywhere at anytime." This time without Chris Hoy, the boys have us on the edge of our seat with an eerie beginning. The lead pops around, jabbing, backing off. It leaves for a short time, but then it comes back. But when it is gone again, the acid is on full display! Sweet, sweet acid combined with power = me enjoying the hell out of this track. The lead does get tiresome; maybe a different sound would've been better. Still, great job! Neuromotor -Virtual Memory- Frederic starts with a bouncy bass line and various psy sounds and has my toe tapping. I don't have a lot of words to describe this track though. The bass line changes and I really like all the noises coming at me from all directions. But something is missing. This track just ventures forward without the agility or the power of a cruncher. It was all right. Delysid -Rajasthan Army (Remix)- I was very disappointed in the Delsyd album so I look to this track with wariness. I hear an ethereal sample above a sitar riff. I don't know who Rajasthan is or why he would need an army, but the bass line takes my mind off it. The lead is metallic (one of them anyway) and you can hear another, more subtle lead hovering just beneath the surface. The sample repeats itself, and another arpeggio takes center stage. The break brings another sample and then I gots some lasers. Ok track, but it leaves me wanting more. I think I like them better as Wicked Wires. I-Dna - Psycho Bitch- Anyone else tired of iSpeak? Damn you Steve Jobs! Excuse me a moment, I have to got to the iToilet and take an iShit. Ahhh, it's good to be iHome! Nonetheless, we waste no time in grooving along, as mr. I-Dna throws down. I wonder what he was thinking about when he titled this track? Bad breakup? Ex-wife problems? Anyway, I found the sounds cool in this one but the track as a whole is kinda all over the place. While this was playing, I was thinking about getting an iSandwich. Audialize - Contact- I just love that forlorn, wailing wind instrument. Could someone please tell me what that is? So emotive. It sounds great in front of the slowly evolving synth line. When the acid arrives, the groove is in full swing. There is another lead that chimes in near the end that I didn't care for, but all in all a nice track. Summary: I would say that I liked the first half of this compilation much more than the second. You can easily see that it is divided into night-time and day time portions. None of the tracks are terrible, but aside from the Concept and Shift vs Abomination tracks, no real crackers. In all honesty, I was slightly let down by the Phyx and Audialize tracks. So while I will say that my neurons were fried in the beginning, I slowly came back to the real world by the end of this CD. 7.5/10
  12. Just listened to this and that first track... Wow! What an opening! The other tracks were ok for me, but didn't come close to touching the first one. Still, a nice enjoyable listen on a lazy afternoon. Mdk
  13. While I disagree, I am willing to give it another couple of go arounds. I found the track without direction, uninteresting, and nothing for me to key on. Mdk
  14. Artist: Various Title: Molecular Counterpart Label: Phantasm Records Release: September 2007 Track Listing 01. 816 Cosmosis Kind Weird Remix 2007 02. 753 Anti-Gravity Auricular Delight 03. 718 Bliss vs. Painkiller Dwarf Hunting 04. 549 Tactical Strike vs. V-Storm Electron Counter Balance (Interactive Rmx) 05. 813 Sirius Isness Shoot 06. 636 Painkiller Barcode 07. 652 Subtance What Are You Into? 08. 904 220V Give Me Some More 09. 642 Cycle Sphere Time For Base Boy, Phantasm always gets me with their covers. This one looks like some type of plant-like material covering on of those killer balls in the old movie Phantasm. Remember that one? The colors are a vibrant green predominantly, but it always catches my eye. I see an appealing cover and bam! The Cd is already in my apartment. This label has brought us such gems as Cosmosissss latest, The Atari.sss album (smasher) and Blisssss Rhythmus Gene. I cant wait to hear this one as it will be used as therapy. You see, the NY Giants just got manhandled by the Packers and I need a pick me up. Man our defense sucks. Lets get to it! Cosmosis Kind Weird Remix 2007- This is a remake of their own track from the Intergalactic album. Right around the 250 mark I get licked by the tongue of goa and the track bounces along. This is full on all the way but its pretty cool. Not a lot of variation but a good start. Nice track! Anti-Gravity Auricular Delight- Ivan Vargas from Mexico here with a thumper. Aggressive, metallic sharp-edged leads. DO NOT listen to this if you have a headache. The whole track is very loud with a pounding kick and bass line. The break allows the track to gather strength (like it needed it!), and its not until the end that any sort of melody makes its presence felt. Wow, this will probably kill on the dance floor with the power it brings. Good track! Bliss vs. Painkiller Dwarf Hunting- You know there is this thing at bars called the dwarf toss? Its where you see how far you can throw a midget. I guess you have to hunt them, cause I imagine they wouldnt come willingly to you. There is an eerie melody at 3 minutes as some acid attempts to mount the walls of your mind. There is talk of Goblin Patrols but I didnt see any. The repetition of the sample is a little annoying and the multiple buildups dont thrill me, but overall not a bad track. Powerful with some good leads. Tactical Strike vs. V-Storm Electron Counter Balance (Interactive Rmx)- If I reverse the polarity of the electron counter balance I have no idea what that means. We have a slowed up sample and then right into the full on mix. This is a short track that gets a little funky midway through but only for a short time. Im guessing Mr. Interactive was a little short on ideas due to the length of the track as well as its blandness. Average. Sirius Isness Shoot- These two seem to be everywhere. While I havent heard their latest album, I have liked a lot of the tracks they have supplied. This one has some nice leads weaving around a thumping bass line. Insanity begins after the break and they come with the powerrrr! The chopped up choir sample is a nice touch, Gem of the album so far! Great track! :posford: Painkiller Barcode- I love one word titles and barcode reminds me of Bruce Willis in 12 Monkeys. Brad Pitt was great as a loon in that one. 5 thousand dollars? 5 thousand dollars? Anyway, this one begins with a rich bass line and mellow pads. The leads turn crazy, the acid joins in and we have ourselves a real toe-tapper! Good track! Subtance What Are You Into?- You dont want to know what Im into tough guy. This one starts off with some cool video game sounds. Remember when you had to go to an arcade to play video games? The bass is deep and the lead is smooth. There are various psy sounds that keep this track interesting and turns this into one hell of a track. The ending melody is great as this track bristles with power. Great track! :posford: 220V Give Me Some More-The second half of this comp has really raised the bar. Discogs tells me that this is Tactical Strike, and they bring cool leads to the party. They flitter about, and there is a shimmering synth that floats high above the one note bass line. The melody is eerie, and the synth lines seem to have a jumpy quality. Good track that had me moving! Cycle Sphere Time For Base- Now Dui Bitton hits me with a synthesized voice right out of the gate. Now, he doesnt know I dont like that, so he can be forgiven. But this track is replete with things I dont like. Repetitive house-like samples, a house-like tapping rhythm, and stops and starts. I dont like my music asking me questions or telling me what to do. If I wanted that, I would go to my wife. Oh and that wailing voice in the background made me leave the apartment and kick a few cats. I think Homer said it best when he said, This is the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked. How the hell did this make it on the compilation? Not to mention the end. Ugh. Summary: After having reviewed numerous compilations that are all flash and no substance, I was ready for this one to follow right along. However, a funny thing happened in the middlefire made it good! This comp was like a Quiznos sandwich, with all the great meat in the middle; powerful beats, great synths, and catchy rhythms. Sure its full on, but I enjoyed all the tracks to some degree except the last one. Is this going to revolutionize the genre? Nah, you can still keep your Pleiadians discs. But, honestly, did you expect this to? This is good full on and I recommend it to all full-on fans. One of the better full on compilations I have heard lately. 7.5/10. By the way, NHL hockey season starts in 18 days! Hell yeah! MDK
  15. Strydr are you trying to give us epilepsy with that sig? Thanks for the advice Frisbee. But as I have stated, I am a lazy man. I'm not really looking for responses just throwing my opinion out there. If people want to respond and discuss, I'm happy to do so. I post here because I find this board more for the discerning psytrancer. Isra, while sometimes a nice read, is a little bit of a free for all. I enjoy writing reviews and it gives me a chance to actually spend time listening to music. Besides, reading all the crap I write would give you a headache against that blue background! Mdk
  16. Artist: Poli Title: Electric Wonders Label: Spun Records Release: September 2007 Track Listing 01. 821 Poli vs. Spiritual Enhancer & Dizzy Mind Dig Music (GMS Remix) 02. 655 Poli Majestic 03. 638 Poli vs. DJ Torry Poltor 04. 656 Poli vs. DJ Nyimo & DJ Levin Our World 05. 802 Poli vs. GMS vs Frequency Surfer Cause I Just 06. 627 Poli vs. GMS Universal (Poli Remix) 07. 637 Poli vs. DJ Nyimo & DJ Levin Spin Zone 08. 723 Poli Humanoid Typhoon 09. 706 Poli Cyber Storm 10. 625 Poli Ibiza This is Austin Matkin who has appeared on numerous compilations. Spun records was founded in part by GMS so it stands to reason that they would be all over this thing. Hell GMS and Poli did a track called Universal which is on this CD as a Poli remix. Same track? I dunno. Maybe GMS and Poli are the same person. Have you ever seen them at the same time, cause I sure havent. Looking at this track list, it screams fluffy club trance, but sometimes that candy corn gummi bear cotton candy stuff can be good in a 4 cavity visit to the dentist kinda way. I mean cmonthere is a track named Ibiza here. What the hell type of music do you think this is? Anyway, all sugary sweet jokes aside, lets get to it! Poli vs. Spiritual Enhancer & Dizzy Mind Dig Music (GMS Remix)- I usually shudder when more than 2 people collaborate on a track cause it usually turns out to be a pot luck meal. You can eat it, but you would much rather have a Big Mac to fill you up. This has a big kick with a galloping bass line. Bet you didnt see that coming. There is a lot of power here and the synths are quite energetic. Rest assured the large build up is here, but very well done. Very good track! Poli Majestic- Fat kick? Check. Frenetic synths? You bet. Once again this track bristles with power. The several breaks there are, are well laid out. The melody line at the end of the track feels like it would come right out of Ibiza. That sand does get everywhere doesnt it? But Kudos to Poli for not putting any singing in this track, as that is a common pitfall. Good track! Poli vs. DJ Torry Poltor- No sir, I dont know what that means. Unless...You combined Poli with Poltor. Clever rabbit! Gallop bass line, gallop! This has a sort of house feel that I was expecting throughout. Club trance du jour, saccharin sweet, but gosh darnit, I cant help tapping my toe to it. Well done! Poli vs. DJ Nyimo & DJ Levin Our World- This one seems a little slower, but that giddyup bass line might be confusing me. The lead melody is super catchy and I cannot stop bouncing to this. Very good track! Poli vs. GMS vs Frequency Surfer Cause I Just Cause you just what? Pooped your pants? Swallowed your gum? I heard some synthesized vocals in this one, and this is what I was expecting. I can see the lights in the clubs oscillating, pulsing. The kick is still heavy, and I continue to sway into the last break which leads me to ponder lifes mysteries. Pretty good track. Poli vs. GMS Universal (Poli Remix)- Do you really believe that stuff about parallel universes? I could listen to the other track on the 2004 compilation Next Generation Dynamic, but Im a lazy man Roger. The sample sounds familiar, but then it would, wouldnt it? Do you see that there, I typed tit? I love boobies. Back on track though, the effort is another driver, moving with power. The melodies are pretty simple and variation is at a minimum. As Bobby Hill would say, its all right. Poli vs. DJ Nyimo & DJ Levin Spin Zone- This is the 2nd track with these two DJs in it. He must like them. Wasting no time, the bass line gallops on. Full on to the bone, with simple melodies and not a whole lot else. Decent track. Poli Humanoid Typhoon- The last three tracks are all Poli all the time. The short melody has you looking skyward as the kick thunders forward. I like the way the final melody weaves within the track, filters being used nicely. This is just a good rumbler. Nice track! Poli Cyber Storm- This bass line has some attitude. Are you talkin to me? This track really sounds full and regains some momentum after the break. The synth lines are anthemic and boom! You just cant help moving to this track. Very good track! Poli Ibiza- I wonder what this is going to sound like? This is definitely slower than the previous tracks. I would call this sway music. The break is funky and I find myself liking it. A lot. Heavenly synths and sticky grooves. Good stuff! Summary: Heres what I have to say. Give it a chance. It is what it is. I was sure I was going to hate this. I was expecting house vocals with over the top synths but what I got was power and energetic rhythms. This is outdoor party music which happens to be Spuns mantra. This is euphoric and happy and get me another drink as I watch the sunrise trance. Definition of guilty pleasure right here. But damnit its good. I just wish there was an emoticon shaking his but. Now where the hell are my glow sticks? 8/10. MDK
  17. Artist: Various Title: Surya Namaha Label: Namaha Records Release: August 2007 Tracklisting: 01. 8:39 Menog Vs. CPU Vs. Bliss Concept of Time 02. 7:56 Itp Vs. U-recken Northern Lights 03. 9:26 ChRonos Sonic Drops 04. 7:13 CPU Demolition 05. 9:58 Psilocybe Project Experience The Challenge 06. 6:21 Digicult Every Single Second 07. 7:07 Mojo Beat Beasts 08. 7:18 Audiotec Acid Machines 09. 7:03 Anill Jennifer 8 10. 7:10 Strange Planet Lifeforms Ok, so it's been awhile since I reviewed a CD, so since I had a half day at work (thank you very much rep who brought Chick-Fil-A for lunch), I thought I would dive headlong into this one. I haven't heard of this label, but I have seen their releases in the shops. They looked a little too dark for my tastes, but the track list here seems right up my alley. The cover art is colorful, with an image of an android who has a sun as a power source readily visible in his torso. He is also shooting triangles out of his hands. I wish I could do that. Geometry proofs? No problem? Need a perfect pizza cutter? I'm on it. So, faster than you can say, "what is a chicken nugget really"...let's get to it! Menog vs. CPU vs. Bliss Concept of Time- "As we shall see, the concept of time has no meaning before the beginning of the universe." Now I will tell you, I love any track with Menog and CPU involved (although I was disappointed in Sammy's last effort), but throw Bliss in there and you've got my attention. This one sounds very futuristic with a modern computer feel. Sammy's signature acid makes its presence felt. The main melody is a little simple but the sample is interesting. The end melody is groove intensive, but I felt there were too many build-ups without the smash you over the head climax (he-he, I said climax). A decent start, but with these names I was expecting to burn out the repeat on my computer and that didn't happen. Itp vs. U-recken Northern Lights- A lot of people have been raving about their album Lose Your Illusion, but not me. No way. I haven't heard it. U-Recken is Yaniv Ben-Ari and I haven't heard his album Aquatic Serenade either. What the hell have I been doing? Well, this Johnny come lately will give this some good old fashioned scrutiny. This one has a driving bass line and cool bass sounds with wispy synths assaulting my ears from all around. This track is also quite groovy with a nice middle-eastern melody. Good track! :posford: ChRonos Sonic Drops- Nikita Klimenko from Russia brings us...wait. It's not him? But his name is Chro...Are you sure? Whatever. This is a group from Mexico whose names I would've typed but their names are too long. Go to discogs if you want to read it you lazy bastard. Bouncy trance here with little to no variation for the first 5 minutes. The break at that time is smooth however and makes me feel relaxed. There is a famous drug sample that we have all heard (I still like it though) and the last part of the track is uplifting. Like something Paul Van Dyk would spin. Meh. Average track. CPU Demolition- Ok, so I am hoping Samy rolls over the competition here. The staccato synth runs are pretty cool and I feel the track starting to build. What I didn't like was the real bass sound and the eternal build up. Arrggh! I cannot get into the flow of the track if you keep messing with me! The end is not really any better. Samy if you're reading this (and you must be very bored) please go back to the sound of your previous 2 albums. That was some absolute insanity! I miss it! Psilocybe Project Experience The Challenge- I have no idea who the hell this is. I do know that the bass line is that galloping style that annoys me. Do I have to endure almost 10 minutes of this? Ugh. And it just keeps going like this. Will someone please take away their software? You can have it back when you read the manual. The end is a little better but still plebeian (look it up) and cliche full-on. Next. :wank: Digicult Every Single Second- Please guys save this compilation. I'm begging you. Your album Avenida De Belgica was righteous and your compilation work has been outstanding. The samples are well placed and the synths bounce along. I like that there is no rest for your ears; as soon as one sound begins to leave, another starts to fill the gap. Very good track! :clapping: Mojo Beat Beasts- "I came here to do something and damnit I'm gonna do it." This newcomer had a track on the compilation Spring Break which I haven't heard. I know the album cover was lame though. This one starts with a woman singing a short ditty and right into a galloping bass line. We also have a guitar plug in. The break at 445 is nice and calm as we go into a short synth run. This track is too stop and start without anything interesting going on. Pass. Audiotec Acid Machines- Wow, I haven't heard from him since that freakishly weird cover on his 2nd album. Creepy. Clowns are supposed to be funny. Or evil serial killers. This is also bouncy full-on with good synth work. The break is mellow, soothing. Once we get back to the beat, we have average club-trance. Super duper fluffy. Nothing to see here, keep it moving folks. Anill Jennifer 8- We have a Greek who is now in the US of A! His name is Alexander Georgiadis. The bpm on this one is slower, more in the progressive range. The rhythm is good and my toe is tapping. When the synths arrive there is a funky goa flavor afoot! The break has some distorted long ago strings with the beat rising from the depths. With the second break, I felt the sounds could be more numerous, but that is kind of nitpicky. The beat hammers back right to the end of the track. If this is Jennifer 8, I would like to hear the previous 7 iterations! Good stuff! :posford: Strange Planet Lifeforms- Luke had a track on the Cloudcatcher VA I plan to get. This is also a slower track, flirting with progressive elements. The melody is good and catchy. The bass line plods along, amidst well placed samples and very good synth sounds. This was a very well structured track. Very enjoyable! :clapping: Summary: Maybe I'm just in a bad mood. Maybe I'm not getting enough nookie. If it is the latter, I'll take care of it. But maybe, this compilation is crappy. I don't mean to disrespect anyone; God knows everyone here has talent. I don't even make music so I have to envy all of you. However, most of the tracks here seem sub-par to me. It's like they just decided to throw a bunch of stuff together to meet a deadline. You can't tell me that with CPU's history of making mind altering music, he can look at his track and say, "Damn, this is gonna kick ass!" You can't tell me that. I was looking forward to this compilation and now feel like that pig-tailed little girl in sixth grade I used to have a crush on kicked me in the nuts and took my lunch money. And for good measure she said, "By the way, me and your best friend are going to second base." Several tracks on the compilation saved this from being a total disaster I suppose. Now if you don't mind, I'm going to watch some Dr. Phil. 6/10. Favorites: 10, 6, 9, 2. Mdk
  18. I was very impressed with Anahata- The Unmade Sound. Mdk
  19. I just listened to this for the first time. The best track evaarggh?!? Really?? Depends on what mood you are in I suppose. It is very good though. I like the variation. And I can see where Talpa got some inspiration. But then again, it's IM, so that could be said for most psytrance acts. Mdk
  20. I just broke this out and man it is good. 5 years old and still vibrant. Music tastes change for sure, but this is good old fashioned downtempo bliss! Mdk
  21. Artist: Heterogenesis Title: Revoluciones Maquinicas Label: Dark Prisma Release: August, 2007 Track Listing: 01. 202 Entrando A La Via Organica (Intro) 02. 638 Constelacion Armonica 03. 746 Danzando Fuera De La Mente 04. 745 Despertando El Espiritu 05. 652 Silencio Interior 06. 705 Universos Incorporales 07. 737 El Espiral Hacia La Eternidad 08. 751 Campo Molecular 09. 713 Conciencia Multidimensional 10. 851 Abstraccion Subjetiva Wow, that was tough. Typing the Spanish titles of the tracks took a lot out of me. Sure I can speak Spanish, well a little. I took 4 years of it in high school, but that was ages ago. Besides, this girl that sat across from me was hot. Not go to the front of the class because Im pitching a tent hot. I stumbled across this release and got it because of the interesting artwork. I havent heard anything about Dark Prisma records, but I was able to discover this was mastered by Artifakt at TimeCode studios. Advantage number one. This is a combo of Jorge Uema (Pragmatix) and Cosmos Vibrations. Dark Prisma released Frantic Noise The Nordland Orchestra which was dedicated to the dark side of trance while this one bills itself as a genre-smasher, containing both light and dark. I believe the Argentinian Revolucion has begun ladies and gentlemen. Lets get to it! Entrando A La Via Organica (Intro)- I dont want you to think of this as some process of converting electrons and magnetic impulses and shapes and figures and soundsno. Listen. Were here to make a dent in the universe. Otherwise why even be here. Forgive the translations, but I will do my best. We enter an organic life. This is a short Dark Ambient intro, and it sets the stage nicely. The above sample is awesome and I cant wait to dent that sonofabitch universe! Constelacion Armonica- With a rambling bass line that es muy rapido we take off. Good synth work and the break sets up the next phase. You can here the intermingling of dark and light as the track bristles with power. What a great start. Power with a dark atmosphere! Danzando Fuera De La Mente- Here we are dancing outside of our mind. The track starts with a sliced pad sound and is rounded with a wicked bass sound that gives a nice bottom end. Again you can taste the squirty dark leads that a lot of Darkpsy producers like. Very good track! Despertando El Espiritu- Waiting for the spirit has a lot of sounds to keep you occupied. As one is leaving, another takes its place and fills the void. I like that attention to detail. The lead snakes around the full-on bass line in various iterations and turns this track into a quite the mover. Very good track! Silencio Interior- Interior Silence. I know; youre proud of me for that one. I just love the dark feel that opens this track, and it moves along nicely. Not a whole lot to say about this one though, so Ill just say good track. Universos Incorporales- Im going to go out on a limb here and say this means Incorporated Universes. The bass line drives in this one as a soft melody creeps to the front. Psysounds keep your mind working as the beat goes on. This is just a nice straight forward piece of psytrance. Good track! El Espiral Hacia La Eternidad- The spiral towards eternity again has that dark atmosphere. I felt the middle bit was a tad uninteresting, until someone asked if I was a dreamer. Since I am, I wasnt afraid to admit it. When the leads near the end kick in, it helps the track. I would say pretty good track. Campo Molecular- Molecular country. Is that like flavor country? Because if it is I want no part of it. Ask the Marlboro man how thats going. This track seems to have a really fat kick and the leads set the tone. By the 230 I am tapping my toe. The lead wipes its emotions all over your face. The lead changed a couple of times, and before I knew it, the track was over. Good track! Conciencia Multidimensional- Multidimensional conscience. Were these guys philosophy majors. Their titles are deep. Their sound production is as well. The lead is short and subtle, as an arpeggio weaves about. This one seemed shorter, but no less good. Good track! Abstraccion Subjetiva- Subjective Abstractionyeah, I dont even know what that means. But Im here to tell you that this is the obligatory Downtempo track. With a dubby feel. The leads sprinkle about, and it feels like Jamaica at late afternoon. The beat is heavy and I think I see the waves crashing on the shore. Great track! In Summary: This was a very good debut. It is full-on, but very well defined full-on. I am usually wary of discs that bill themselves as genre-spanning as they usually dont even get one right. This is different. There are no club sounds here, and you might as well leave your glow-sticks at home. My mind never wandered, and I really enjoyed the dark feel to this disc. Im sure improvements could be made, but like I said, for a debut it is a great start. 8/10
  22. Artist: Deeper In Zen Title: Silence Label: Soular Records Release: July, 2007 Track Listing 01. 629 First Breath 02. 647 Revealing Luminescence 03. 721 It Is Now 04. 720 Inner Illuminations 05. 708 Integrated Minds 06. 754 Wicked Purity 07. 744 Dark Electric 08. 703 Elemental Deeper In Zen (James Brian, USA) has released three artist albums before this one. Balance, which I am still trying to get my hands on, Insight and the double CD Tao. Now I have only heard Insight (which I liked) despite the fact that Tao is still sitting on the shelf unlistened to. Im sorry baby, I dont mean to neglect you, its just that all these things are happening and your bodys changing so fast, its like a whirlwindyadda yadda yadda. I recently reviewed the Helios debut and liked the track James helped on so this should be a good time. The art is nice with a Stonehenge kinda thing in the foreground and a medallion like sun in the background. Lets get to it! First Breath- The track begins with a rumbling bass line and a mystical atmosphere. Large pads and tribal utterances give way to a screaming lead. You can feel this track building, giving you just a taste at first. The break is a last chance to escape, but then all the elements are combined in the final minute. Great track and a great start! Revealing Luminescence- Is there not only one moment ever? Is life ever not this moment? After that sample we are right back into high energy territory. James doesnt believe in waiting around! What he is revealing, is how full-on should be done. Fast, powerful, and utterly trance inducing. If you dont get up and move to this, check for a pulse. Bravo, Mr. Brian. Bravo. It Is Now- This one starts a little darker, but no less groovy. I liken this to going through a tunnel at night, not really knowing what is on the other end. The acid is there, grumbly bass line, and eerie leads. And just when it might start to get a little repetitive, new leads arrive and the journey continues. This track is more about mood than melody. Good track! Inner Illuminations- I dont have a lot to say about this one. This one just kindagoes. Its basically all about the beat and the leads seem to follow. There isnt a true melody, but there are a lot of sounds. Its not bad, but doesnt seem to stack up against the previous tracks. Good, but nothing special. Integrated Minds- We are about to take you into the world of the LSD user. A world that to him is real, yet as terrifying and unreal as anything imaginable. Man, what a good sample! I know people are tired of drug references, but this one even had a little Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds in it. Clever. The track has that rapid bass line, and I know we are in for a ride. The acid stabs are plentiful and the break brings back the Beatles. Marvelous. I dont care for marmalade though. Not one bit. Its likeretarded jelly. It looks good in the jar, but when you taste it, you are disappointed. Like the girl you see in the club. She looks hot in the dim light, but get here outside and your friends are already laughing at you. By the way, this is a very good track. Wicked Purity- Opposite words, pretty cool. The bass line staggers to the front amidst a womansummmvocals. Know what Im sayin? The track bounces along, without a lot of variation. This is similar to Inner Illuminations. A good track with power, but nothing special. Dark Electric- It is the essence of all galaxiesand blades of grass. Of all flowers, and trees. And all other forms. Feeling the oneness of yourself with all things is love. This sample seems to contradict the title, but what do I know. A couple of breaks and a good lead, and we have a nice track. I wouldve liked a little more acid or craziness, but it is what it is. Elemental- Final track and its elemental my dear Watson. This one rises and falls. The lead mimics the bass line at times, which creates a nice groove. Once again, not melodies on top of melodies, but good structure. The only complaint I have with this track is the abrubt ending. Other than that, good track. In Summary: I liked it. Like all discs, there were some tracks that were stronger than others, but there are no stinkers here. You put a Beatles sample in your track, and Im following you. Hell, put it in my cereal and Im eating it. Jamess bass lines are crisp and he has a great sense on how to keep a track interesting. This is full-on, but its not clich (holy crap, the computer just put that accent there!). There are no rainbows and no unicorns, just good straight forward psytrance. So take your glow sticks and beat it! Great job! 8/10. Favorites: 2, 5, 1. Mdk
  23. Artist: Helios Title: Aires Rising Label: Geomantic TV Release: July, 2007 Track Listing 01. 7:35 Helios feat. Cosmosis Feel the Love 02. 7:46 Helios feat. Chromatone & Random Burrito Envy 07. 5:55 Helios High Use Ward 08. 7:51 Helios feat. Morphonix Incanterpolation 09. 7:45 Helios Dream Time Aires? Really? I feel like such a fool. I've been saying Aries, you know, like the God of War? Now I don't know who Helios is, discogs refuses to tell me (what did I do to them?). He or they seem to be buddies with Chromatone and Random, and that's a good sign if you like high energy psy. Geomantic TV has put out a bunch of stuff including a few DVDs. Never a bad idea to branch out into different media. This seems like Helios has a lot of help from his friends, and they seem to be powerful friends indeed. The artwork seems cool, which shows stick figures dancing on top of the world. Well, what appears to be South America. So, let's get to it! Helios feat. Cosmosis Feel the Love- Ahhh, I can already feel the Cosmosis influence at the start, as some squirty leads shuck and jive their way around the track. The break sees a growly lead emerging from it's hiding place as guitars fight for position. I liked the lead near the end, but it wasn't dominant enough. This was a decent track to start the journey, but not enough meat on the bone for me. Helios feat. The Loomii One With Nature- The Loomii? You guys need to stop with the weed. I see they or him (I have no idea) had a track on the underrated Highway 420 compilation, which ironically is about weed. The guitar at the break kind of gets me to be one with nature, in a 60's free-love get a job and a shower you dirty hippie kinda way. However, I find the track thin with not a lot going on. Helios Mentalasys- Helios decides to tackle this one on his own, with Mentalasys. You guys and your made up words. Killin' me. This one starts of with a darker edge. The bass line is assertive, but there is nothing really to focus on and a lot of air that could be filled with sounds to flesh out the track. I did like the lead near the end that seemed to come out of nowhere. The percussion underneath it all is pretty funky as well. Pretty good track. Helios feat. Pure Pressure Atomic Sun- Once again no idea who Pure Pressure is but they start off with some nice bass work. But once again, this track falls into the same pitfall as the previous ones: not a whole lot to distinguish itself. It chugs along like a train with no passengers but it keeps going because it still has to get to the station. Pass. Helios feat. Deeper In Zen Auradawn- I look forward to this one in the same way I look forward to reviewing Deeper in Zen's new album Silence. This track has a really cool name. Auradawn. I see an image like the cover of the Vangelis album the City. Go look it up. It's like those words belong together. Like applewood bacon. Hickory smoked. Yeah. This one is already a step in the right direction. Once again the bass work is nice and the track moves along fluidly. The pads give an ethereal feeling, and the leads guide your ears ever skyward. The break shoves the sun right into your mug. Beautiful! Best on the disc for sure! Great track! Helios feat. Chromatone & Random Burrito Envy- That's funny. I didn't know they could do that, but why wouldn't they? This burrito has more meat and this other one is all beans. I guess the one that was all meat would make fun of the beany one. The beany one would fell bad, start hanging with the wrong crowd. Probably the tacos. They're bad news. But don't let them fool you. They seem hard on the outside, but on the inside it's just soft. Anyway, Chromatone & Random lend a hand, and this is full on all the way. The lead at 5:30 flutters about for a little bit, then disappears. It's a good mover, but there isn't a whole lot of craziness. I was expecting acid out the ass, but that's not here. Decent track, but nothing special. Helios High Use Ward- The beginning is sort of mellow, mid-tempo with a catchy percussive riff. I'm feeling a little funky. When the bass comes in, it's a whole lot of funky. Where the hell did this come from? The break continues with the atmospheric sounds and then we jump right back into the funky pudding with both feet. This is the shortest track on the album, but it was highly effective. Very good track! Helios feat. Morphonix Incanterpolation- So what the hell does that mean? This is sort of tech-trance with a nice bottom end. That bass is super-fat! My sub is begging for more, hungry s.o.b.! With a nice trip-hop beat and assorted atmospherics, this is pretty sweet. After listening to this track all the way through several times, I found out what the title means: super booty grooving! Great stuff! Helios Dream Time- Well, the 2nd half of this CD has certainly been a surprise. We continue with a nice down tempo / break-beat / ambient track. I'm telling you this is the meat that Helios should be cooking. The beat was good, and while not as good as the previous track, still one of the better ones in the bunch. In Summary: It's plain to see the way this album goes. It starts of very trance like with collaborations with some known and unknown names and winds up with trip hop and techno beats that the Chemical Brothers wish they had. Ill be brutally honest; I think Helios should stick to techno machinations. They are very good at it. The trance portion of the Cd is average maybe a little more, but where they shine is the latter part of the album. It will be interesting to see what turn Helios's style takes in the future. I would classify Helios as a work in progress, but then again aren't we all? First half of the CD: 5/10. Second half: 8/10. Favorites: 8, 5, 4, 9. Mdk
  24. Artist: Various Title: Positive Alchemists Vol. 3 Label: Avigmatic Records Release: August 2007 Track Listing 01. 802 Protoculture Revolutionizer 02. 809 Life Extension Vs. Crying Freemen Let Me Out 03. 649 Mixed Emotions Vs. Didrapest Time Stratch 04. 815 Intersys Vs. Optical Vision Systematic 05. 727 Space Buddha Dream On 06. 722 Bio-Tonic Do The Same Thing 07. 737 Sine Die Eclipse 08. 632 Digicult Magic 09. 725 Evoice Vs. Digital Tribe Freak Out 10. 740 Avigmati - Hikoseki Man I have been waiting for this one. Avigmatic Records, the label that brought you the awesome Digicult album, the previous 2 installments of this series as well as the new effort from Life Extension. I really enjoyed the last 2 Alchemists so I have high hopes for this one. As usual the art is very cool. I wish I was an alchemist. I would grow a long white beard like Gandalf, and tell evil demons that they shall not pass. I think you would really like my dragon like fireworks. All the kids think theyre cool. Go aheadask em! Rightlets get to it! Protoculture Revolutionizer- South Africa rules! Well, as far as psytrance goes. Maybe it rules in other ways. Ive never been there before. I just dont know. Here is Nate bringing us his latest. This guy knows his way around a track. He warms you up with a nice driving beat, and allows you to recover with a short break. The pads are so spacey, the synths nimble over top, and as we reach the climax, the bass line shifts and brings the emotional whirlwind to a head. Cant you just taste the sunrise on this one? Vive la revolution! Great track! Life Extension Vs. Crying Freemen Let Me Out- Theres only one part of my body I dont want anybody enteringthats my head. Really? Is that the only one? Cause I can think of a few more that shouldnt be entered. As I mentioned before Life Extension have a new album out, and as far as I know Crying Freemen is a French duo that have released a track on a comp I have reviewed called Mysterious Force. There is a nice bouncy beat, you know that galloping bass line. The arpeggio scrambles across the track but I feel it stays a little too long. I found this one pretty good, but nothing special. I preferred Life Extensions track on Vol. 2 of this series. Mixed Emotions Vs. Didrapest Time Stratch- Didrapest did battle with Planet B.E.N. this year and Mixed Emotions did a mix with Didrapest on the Enigmatic World Israel disc. The staccato voice lead brings a nice melody as the other sounds start to fill it out. The final romp sort of has a goa-hypnotic quality to it. Sort of. This one has a lot of stops and starts so its hard for me to remain in trance. Not bad. Intersys Vs. Optical Vision Systematic- Intersys have released a bunch of tracks on various compilations but I dunno who the hell Optical Vision is. Cool, bring on the unknown. The beginning of the track has a worried feel to it. People are trying to reboot, there isnt time, I say. I think the samples are from Red Planet, cause that sounds a lot like Val Kilmer. Eh, who knows. This one meanders along but really is firmly in full-on territory. Not bad, but not great. Space Buddha Dream On- Eliad has the right attitude here. Hes got leads snaking onto the scene just within earshot just before the beat drops. Brad Pitt knows manknow your drugs! I liked the break as it wasnt business as usual with all the effects used. When the final melody kicks in, it is pure happiness. Rainbows and unicorns. Everything is going to be all right! Some might find this Chester cheesy, but I liked it becauseI want everything to turn out fine. Pretty good track. Bio-Tonic Do The Same Thing- I always found these guys wacky. They can make pumping kick you in the nuts psy and then they can make some weird Bootsy Collins trippy shit. My favorite D.I. says we will all be able to do the same thing. The fluttering lead amidst the beat is soothing, and then another lead fills out the bottom end very nicely. Lotsa reverb here. Pretty good track. Sine Die Eclipse- Yohan (like Lohan?) Lasorsa pops in to deliver us an eclipse. His choons have been spot on, and has shown he can wreck some shit. That break is trippy as the lead evolves, gurgling to the surface. His bass line changes to a different tempo for a short time, but then he is back on 4/4 ground and continues to weave a sonic tapestry. Smashing! Digicult Magic- This place is differentits special My favorite track by these guys is The Way In so Im hoping for more of his powerful goa flavour. Did you see that? Did you see what I did there? I used the Queens English! You should see the look on your boat! Anyway, this track moves along well, and comes with more guitar. I normally dont like that, but its all right here. The leads are quality and although I didnt get any of that goa magic, I still enjoyed this one. Evoice Vs. Digital Tribe Freak Out- Shlomi and someone else want to freak me out. The voice sample is on the corny side and most assuredly not freaky. The beat isnt that freaky, and the leads arent very freaky either. You know what scares me? Jellyheadz. That is some scary shit. Oh, and Xenomorphs Qlippoth. I cannot listen to that with the lights off. That guy seems like the psytrance Marilyn Manson. Well, what Eric Warner would like to think he is. What were we talking about? Oh yeah, this track is not very freaky. Average at best. Avigmati Hikoseki- I dont know what Hikoseki means but we have some quirky leads to start. Later there is some definite goa nicey nice as the track chugs along. Pretty good track although some variation would not have been remiss. In Summary: I want to tell you that this was the most kick ass album of the year. I want to say that you should move your Hallucinogen and Pleiaidians aside and let this rule the mantle. I want to. But I cant. I would be lying if I said that I wasnt disappointed in this release. I suppose it is my fault for probably having unrealistic expectations, but damnit, I have them. The previous two entries in this series were very good to exceptional. Almost every track left a blistering mark. Not so here. Dont get me wrong(ly), this isnt a bad compilation and none of the tracks are terrible. But it's like the Blade series of movies. When the first one came out it was great. The second one was really good too. I don't know what the hell they were thinking on the third one. Who the hell green-lighted that tom-foolery? AND that hot chick was in it. This was sorta like that. This comp doesn't suck. Not at all. Its just not up to the level of its predecessors. 7/10 Favorites: 1, 7, 5.
