  1. Artist: Benji303 Title: The Advent of Acid Label: Acid Test Pressings Date: June, 2015 1. The Advent of Acid 2. The Advent Of Acid (Acid Ted vs. Matt Acidic Jah The Mind Remix) Best thing I've heard so far. This is approaching if not colliding with the insanely high bar I set for myself in my search for great acid trance. Benji303 is an Acid/Techno DJ & Producer from Manchester in the UK and these two tracks are ultimate powerhouses. If you want to lose yourself in the music then this is for you. Must be how the metalheads feel when they wanna break some sh*t. The original sets you up with some chunky hi-hats and booming kicks until he unleashes the acid less than two minutes in. There's no story to tell, it's just hammering percussion and a rising acid tide. Blistering. The remix gets growly as f*ck and the 303s get filtered to death. The break let's 'em keep rolling as they continue to rise in intensity. Whew! Beatport
  2. Artist: Union Jack Title: Two Full Moons & A Trout EP Label: Rising High Records Date: 1994 1. Two Full Moons & A Trout (Caspar Pound Mix) 2. Two Full Moons & A Trout (Original Mix) 3. Two Full Moons & A Trout (Union Jack Mix) 4. Two Full Moons & A Trout (FLF Mix) If you held a gun to my head...jeez I guess I would say my acid journey has been a little disappointing. Reading online there are those that would deem this not only one of the greatest trance tracks of all time, but one of the finest pieces of electronic music. While taste is certainly subjective I'm not seeing it. I've read people describing how epic the Caspar Pound (RIP) remix was and while beautiful in places it also comes off as a bit pretentious. Sounding epic, just to sound epic ain't cool bruh. Over 12 and a half minutes and I was waiting for the hammer to drop or for him to bring me to the clouds and it just never happened. Great look at what I did. I sh*t talked a dead guys work. That's gonna earn me a few extra hail marys. The original is more acidic and for me more enjoyable even though that break in the middle was fairly unimaginative. The second half of the track picks it up with the vocals and especially with the chopping effect. The second break though...Poor transition and it comes off as two different tracks stuck together with duct tape. No it doesn't fix everything. The Union Jack Mix is a shorter version that lacked any fireworks and the FLF mix had me stifling yawns. Look anytime you put mixes of the same track on and EP you run the risk of fatigue. Throw in two of those mixes being almost half an hour long and you're asking for trouble. I didn't hear enough great things to make me want to listen to this again. Perhaps in 1994 this was a classic, but I doubt it.
  3. Artist: Various Title: Psychedelic Club Trax - Future Sounds of Goa and Trance Label: Hypnotic Date: 1997 1. Asbraasia - Whirlpool--Kaos 2. X-Plore - Xemini (Mental Mix) 3. Donut Junkie - Blue 4. Recipe - Capture 5. Aerial Servant - Glockwork 2 6. Latex Empire - Acidchild (LP Edit) 7. Amtraxx - Morphia 8. Bloque - Legoland 9. Moonstalker - Stereoids 10. Mayflyer - Signal 1 11. Hval - Teint "Man this blows." "Bullsh*t. It's got an Indian deity on it. You know it's good." Sigh. You're both right. In my search for the perfect acid compilation I realize that like goa, you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince Tantrance. So far this one has had the most oomph for which I search. The opener grabs your attention right away and Donut Junkie's Blue is a monster. Just wish it wasn't so short. Glockwork 2 has some nice 303 snap and bite, but the sound is a little uneven. Acidchild is groovy, but after that...man some slim pickings. It's like the album f*cking fell off a cliff. I mean Signal 1 is a headache inducing speed freak. And what would an acid compilation be without something completely ridiculous shoved in at the end? So when I say this one is the best I've heard so far I think it means that it's less packed with annoying, go nowhere, linear, zero creativity crap. So that's a win. Right?
  4. Artist: Various Title: Digital Extacy A Mindtravelling Trance Experience Label: Hypnotic Date: 1998 1. Radar - Interference 2. Latex Empire - The Trip 3. LV-426 - The Frame 4. Donut Junkie - Tr-Drill-09 5. Bloque - Tweak 6. Johhny Mnemonic - Viruz 7. Aerial Servant - Son of Mastermind 8. Brannon Beer - Skyride 9. Cellblock X - Climax 10 10. LV-426 - Press Machine Press 11. Pissle-Whistle-Party - Bonusbajer (Bonus Track) "This is the new reality." Then I want to go back to the old reality. I've been dipping my toe into the acid pool as of late and have come to realize several things. The similarities between acid and goa are numerous. Both genres love the little silver box (303) and feature it prominently in their work. And like goa acid has a lot of weak stuff interspersed with the really good tracks. Now the bar I measure a great acid track with is very high. Ain't nobody got time for less. And that bar is Acid Air Raid by Solar Quest. I know, really high. It's just that that track had it all. Power. Insanity. Groove. Atmosphere. Will this album approach that greatness? Not even f*cking close. It shows me that just because you put a bubbling 303 in there does not an excellent track make. The tracks here are shorter so they don't have the time to grow and expand. And the ideas that are here are very linear. If you listen to the first one or two minutes then you know what you're gonna get. Honorable mentions? Well, I suppose the first track was ok. And Climax 10 was super growly. Rotten tomatoes go to the f*cktards who just tried to hold a whistle for 30 seconds for the last track. Just leave it blank and maintain some dignity. Bottom line, the search for the perfect acid trance album continues over this speed bump.
  5. Artist: Various Title: Faith, Hope, and Psychedelia Label: A.R.D. Date: 1998 1. Beach Buddha - Cloudburst 2. Disco Volante - Chameleon (Movement Mix) 3. Ylem - TNKA 4. Esion God - Alice In Thunderland 5. 3000003 - Green Bishop 6. Max & Amino - Chemical Imbalances 7. Discordia - Analytic 8. Imago - Black God 9. Art of Trance - Mosquito 10. Binary Finary - Anthemic 2 "Shaggy you f*cking burnout, are you sure this is where you dropped the DAT tape?" These days I don't believe there are any undiscovered classics floating around the goa sphere. With the internet someone surely would've uncovered gold like that. Maybe Draeke from DAT Records can do it. Or the guys from Zion or Suntrip, but it's pretty rare. Still, it's a pleasant feeling when a fairly decent album comes to your attention. Since I began searching for all things goa this still happens and I'm glad it does. The info on this release says that it was a charity CD featuring the finest psychedelic trance and techno in aid of Indian street children. The finest? I'll be the judge of that. At least this disc has some artists I'm familiar with and you'll be glad to know that the goa flavor is well represented. After a very unimpressive opening track Disco Volante gets things going with a simple offering. I'm sure their filter cutoff knob fingers got a workout cause that's all this track did. But, better. Ylem enters full goa mode with a powerful and melodic track. I would love to hear this with a good re-mastering. Alice in Thunderland is thunderous, and could also do with a good mastering. Sensing a theme? Green Bishop is a clanky house beat nothing more and Chemical Imbalance is weak techno. Analytic has bass that is entirely too loud, but Black God by Imago is some pretty good goa. I wasn't a fan of the Art of Trance album Wildlife One, but this track was kinda cool. It's a bit tribal with a "mosquito-sounding" lead and it gets a little funky at the end. The last track was a bowl of meh. So several styles are represented here, but you only get credit if the tracks in those styles are worth a listen. As I mentioned the tracks sound a little muffled and could use a good mastering. Because of the above this cannot be called a "gem", but there are a couple of tunes worth hearing.
  6. Artist: Various Title: Trancemission To Andromeda (The Sound of the Future and Now) Label: Hypnotic Date: 1996 1. Omniglobe - Mental Fragment (Mindout Mix) 2. Source T-10 - Nightmission 3. Lo Budget - I Wanna Be A Cloud 4. Propulsion iP - Control Your Body 5. Source T-10 - Emotion 6. Omniglobe - Happy Pill Anthem (Hysteria Mix) 7. Memorizer - Memory 8. L'Avenue - Sonic Revolution (Trance Mix) 9. Pure Tribal - Feel Alright 10. Utasia - Stratosphere 11. Warp 69 - Power of Yoga I was recently sent files of a bunch of older trance albums by someone and they thought that I might like to review them. First off I once again neglected to mention my fee. So...that brings my total review earnings to zero. Second, I'm not sure if that person actually likes me because this album was like handing a hamburger coated in blood to a vegetarian. See, bacon is delicious. Nope, nope...no take backs! You eat dead animals! This "trance" music is terrible. It's a mix of styles that sounds like the artists went nuts with the presets and patterns right out of the box. If you plan on reaching Andromeda you probably need to get off the ground first. Houston we have a problem and part of it is happy hardcore. Believe me when I tell you the eyerolls were out in full force. Normally I put the artist names in bold so they can stand out a bit. Uh-uh. Not gonna do it.
  7. "What if there is no tomorrow, there wasn't one today?" You do realize we just elected the orange cheetoh president right? Well thought out and written review Draeke! I uh, don't agree with some of it, (well one big part) but...well here we are. Everyone loves the Buddhas and their unique take on the melding of forest and goa. This project is the definition of psychedelic mind twisting, but with this remixed offering do we really get anything we didn't have on the original Everything album? The title itself said it had everything and it really did have a bunch of styles on it. Well with this effort they remix stuff not just found on their last record. The opening track was a remix of the Cupboard which I felt was the one of if not the best track on the original album. Liked it, but I feel it was more of a lateral move. Bodyhit remix is a dark (so was the original - see a pattern?) pumping track from the Urban Legends album and he plays with some percussive phrases and it has that sample from the Tom Cruise movie War of the Worlds. You know the one. I like it just for that. Again good, but a lateral move. We See is as Draeke said one of the best here and that warped synth sound pulls you right in. More pumping, hallucinatory darkness that is oh, so delicious. Even at almost 11 minutes the time flies by. We Know is the companion track to We See and like any little brother it wants to do what the big brother does. Unfortunately it is less interesting and even boring in places. Five minutes in and I'm wondering if he left the sequencer running. The little details are nice, but I'm afraid it falls short. Here is where I will split with Draeke. This experimental track is an opus, but an opus to...what actually? The first part is a cautious walk through a menacing forest The sample manipulating is aggravating and they keep it up for an extended period of time, beating you over the head with it. Annoying as f*ck. Then they slow everything down to a crawl, and do even more sample manipulation. I can't imagine playing this at a party as it would crush any momentum or vibe. It did that in my house while I was wearing my Star Wars Pjs. But I'm not a DJ. So now a Ka-Sol Remix that lobs off 10 unnecessary minutes, but doesn't add much to the track. Maybe a "thickening?" Meh. Funky Dead Badger? It wasn't very funky so they got it half right. Comfy Slippers Remix of True Hope was really toned down and one might even say mellow. It suffers from what a lot of the tracks suffer from. It doesn't make me scream, "Did you hear the comfy slippers mix? It's off the chain!" More like... IMO I just don't find these remixes anything to write home about. It's just more of the same and by the same I mean they did not stray from their formula. If you liked the album and are a big Buddhas fan then by all means this will be right up your alley.
  8. Yeah that's a headache waiting to happen.
  9. Sorry Ofer, I hope nothing is broken. There are certain albums that stand the test of time and sound good 20 years later. Classics. This is not one of them. This album is rife with long, sleep inducing stretches of full-on lethargy. Three tracks in it's really just white noise. People cannot seriously compare this to Delirious, it's nowhere close. One was a steak and the other a two day old Big Mac. Clearly with the release of Read More he's still massively talented and he's had a hand in some legendary releases, but this one is certainly not a jewel in his crown.
  10. While I think the tracks by themselves are great, in order to maximize what this has to offer a straight through listening will do the trick. Trippy science fiction vibes with some darkness and tribal affectations. To be fair Under the Overtones has a bit of dead space, but overall a very deep ride.
  11. Really awesome stuff here. Haven't heard the Sky Input tracks for awhile, but this throws you right back to a time when goa was making its comeback. Blistering sound with layers of melody that will take your breath away.
  12. I don't know how many Americans are here, but let me tell you what it going on from inside the country. -We just elected a giant douchebag as president. A spoiled, silver spoon baby with a thin skin that has pretty much insulted everybody on the planet. Who has bragged about sexually assaulting women, has not paid federal income taxes in about 2 decades, has driven numerous businesses into the ground and didn't even release his tax returns. Why do you think that is? Probably because he can't get loans in the US, but look at that, his butt buddy Putin has been in contact with his campaign throughout. I'm sure there are ties to Russia that he wants buried. Jesus Christ he was endorsed by the f*cking KKK! Might we want to look elsewhere? Now to get to the more important issue. The reason people are afraid. His campaign was built on hate and exclusion. There's no reason to believe it will not continue. His rallies were a seething cauldron of hate. But more than that a large section of his supporters (white, uneducated) have been emboldened and have crawled out from whatever rock they called home. They now feel emboldened to say or do whatever racist thing they want without consequence. Trump didn't feel the need to shoot that kind of behavior down because he thrived on it. It's already happening. Swastikas are drawn on baseball dugouts, some dipshits put white only and colored signs above water fountains, and there have been several instances of white kids shouting "Build the Wall" at hispanic students. 5th graders. And God forbid an American Muslim wear a hijab. Minorities, LGBTQ, Muslims, Hispanics all feel a little less safe. Obviously all his supporters are not like that. But they may as well be an accessory if they don't speak out. Look, Hillary was a liar and it was a sh*tty thing they did to Bernie. I think the DNC underestimated how much people hated that woman and wanted a change. But to overlook all of the despicable things Trump has said and done is unfathomable to me. I wouldn't let that misogynistic orange Cheetoh watch my dog out of fear that he would try to f*ck it. Talk about misreading the tea leaves. But here we are. People are afraid and this country is as divided as ever. People are waiting to see what will happen, but they're scared. And to all the white people who voted for this animal saying "I'm not racist" or "it's not about race"...must be nice to overlook his racism when you're not the target. P.S. And let's not forget, this buffoon is going to trial for fraud later in November. Then, after that he's going to trial for raping a 13 year old. There's a role model for ya.
  13. This is my least favorite Shpongle release. It comes off noisy and chaotic. But not the good chaotic, it's just not fun to listen to.
  14. Totally got Shpongled on this one. His style is so recognizable. The way he draws out melodies as well as the frequent shift in direction is a huge selling point. Crazy sounds and big beats get me caught up. As others have said the first part of this album is just stellar and psychedelic as hell. Which is not to say the 2nd half isn't good, it's just that the bar was pretty high. I liked the soundtrack sounding Epiphany of Mrs. Kuggla...lots of weight behind it.
  15. Artist: Solar Quest Title: AcidOphilez Label: Entropica Date: 1998 a:\warez\ 1. Arambol 2. Acid Baba 3. Acid Crumble 4. A Jig Or Wot Next 5. Acid Air Raid 6. Acid Nation 7. State Ov Now 8. Kristy Cried 9. N2DerMatsheen 10. EnTranz b:\warez\ 1. BioPolitik 2. Red Shift 3. One Nation 4. KarmAcidyl 5. PosPhase 6. ChakrAcid 7. MegaWurdz 8. Globoscope 9. AcidOphile George Saunders. Sounds like a regular Joe Schmoe that works in the cubicle right next to you. The type of name that belongs to a guy you wouldn't recognize if you tripped over him. But this guy is an electronic musician and his "brushes" so to speak are those shiny boxes like the TB-303,TR-909,606...and he is a virtuoso. This was his third album and I'll be honest I'd never heard of his work. His sound is a melding of acid trance, goa, and techno and he will get you moving. A hallmark of his sound is that growling and oftentimes screaming 303. The blisters he must have twisting that cutoff knob! The album is 2 Cds, mixed (I wish it wasn't so, but it still works) and the first one is an acid trance explosion. If you love those shiny boxes then I don't imagine you'd be disappointed in anything here. Maybe A Jig Or Wot Next as the melody is folksy in a corny way even though his 303 is screaming side saddle. But there is only one reason I'm writing this review. And that is Acid Air Raid. Over 11 minutes of mind expanding, face melting 303 annihilation. If you don't like that track I'll go ahead and tell you that I don't want to know you. You're probably a hipster douchebag with a soulpatch that only watches obscure french films and rides a novelty antique bicycle. Oh and you wear a bowtie. That track is the alpha and omega as far as acid/goa trance goes. It breathes, pulsates, and decimates. He should've ended the album with that track because everything afterwards pales in comparison. And it does. The rest of the music on the first disc (and the more experimental 2nd) is utterly forgettable. It's as if he created this opus and then said, "Ah f*ck it here's the rest. Just throw it in there." Aside from Acid Baba, Acid Crumble and of course Acid Air Raid, this album is actually a disappointment. But damn...we'll always have Acid Air Raid.
  16. Just gave this another listen and it just doesn't hold up to the just above mediocre bar I originally thought it attained. There are parts in each track I like, but man he just couldn't put it all together. Maybe he knew. I don't think he's put out an album since. That's cool now he's got time to market that ridiculous clothing line.
  17. Artist: Javi & SkoOma Title: Anatidaephobia EP Label: Timewarp Records Date: June, 2016 1. Save the Universe 2. Butterpsy Effect 3. 1123581321 4. Dark Side of Our Foot Ummm...is that...a, uh...I mean...seriously? That's a thing? Apparently anatidaephobia is a thing and it means a fear of being watched by ducks. All I know is Daffy is making me feel a bit uncomfortable right about now. I think I have it. No seriously, I think I have it now. I'll never look at ducks the same way. The funniest team name in goa is back at it with another ep of goa trance. There was like zero publicity for this digital ep so I'm happy to help the masses become woke. I think if you're going to have a track that deals with saving the universe (pretty big deal) it should have more gravitas. This was kind of flat. Not terrible, but I think the universe deserves better. Or maybe it doesn't. Butterpsy is ok and gets better by the end, but it just didn't grab me. The next track though...It'll grab you by the p*ssy. I don't know what the significance of the track name is, but I will tell you that it is psychedelic as f*ck. Trippy sounds and melodies that twist and turn. The last track is also hella good, powerful goa. So at the very least the final two tracks will make a welcome addition to your goa collection. Good job gentlemen. Timewarp Records
  18. Artist: Dirty Motion Title: Dirt Emotion Label: Yabai Date: 2008 1. Beautiful Fungus 2. Artistic Temperment 3. Out of Place 4. Dogs of War 5. Man Alone 6. Disaster Management 7. Howard Church 8. Control Freak Remix 9. Life Support Technology Blazing son! Ohhh, they don't make 'em like this no more. This is a nasty good bit o business here. A blazing collaboration between Frozen Ghost and Hiyarant and it's a f*cking shame they only made one album. That cover tells you what you are getting into. Dark and melodic with eerie movie samples from the great label Yabai. These guys keep the groove jumping and the kicks pounding. There are leads here that may punish your ears with their metallic leanings and the acid content is off the charts, but isn't that what we love about this music? Deliciously twisted. Unfortunately the label has disappeared and taken all their stock with them. Discogs might be the only route to ownership now. Shame. Every nighttime music fan should own this.
  19. 12 years ago when this was released it might have been on the cutting edge of South African psytrance. The edgy, dark melodic stuff that Nexus Media and Timecode were known for. But now, it seems a little shallow. Other artists have picked up the baton and run further and faster. Still, tracks like Front and Left, Paratrak, and the Chris Hoy written On the Floor have that brooding edge he's capable of.
  20. Artist: Sesto Sento Title: Key To The Universe Label: Com.Pact Records Date: 2008 1. Sesto Sento Vs. Systemic - Human Nation 2. Key To The Universe 3. Sub6 Vs. Pixel - Teder Beseder (Sesto Sento Remix) 4. Sesto Sento Vs. Electro Sun - Connecting Minds 5. Moby - Lift Me Up (Sesto Sento Cover / Remix) 6. Funk-A-Delic 7. Mysterious Ways 8. My Trip To Fantasy 9. Lost Key Ho. Lee. Sh*t. I could swear that I just did a review of what I thought at that time had to be the absolute worst psytrance release I've ever heard. But less than a month later this album tops it. Which begs the question...how many flaming pieces of sh*t are out there? This album is a full-on disaster, but there are a lot of those. What makes this extra special sh*t sandwich is that for whatever reason these rocket scientists went all Infected Mushroom and decided that singing was the thing missing that would put it over the top. Look I get it that there are actual Israeli artists that can sing (probably), but no amount of auto-tune can save these guys. And as the album goes on it's one nut shot after another. The creme de la creme? If you weren't happy enough slamming your d*ck in the car door, a DVD is included which has the video of their remix of the Moby track. Key to the universe? I don't think this could be the key to the port-a-sh*tter. There was actually a sample that said the word moonbow. Just let that pretentious horsesh*t sink in. Psyshop
  21. Good review Antic. Head meet nail. The second album from Arkadii Tronets is quite the blaster isn't it? Whereas his debut Sounds From Tomorrow (which I thoroughly enjoyed) was firmly rooted in the nitzhogoa sub-genre, this is a pure goa assault. Powerful in your face kicks and high tempo melodies are everywhere. There are plenty of breaks here to catch your breath and like Antic said nary a whisper of nitzhonot silliness. A very underrated album methinks.
  22. Artist: RA Title: Earthcall Label: Suntrip Records Date: September, 2016 1. Terra 2. Predator (Remix) 3. Sacred Sands 4. Crossing Planet 5. 12th Hour (feat Menkalian) 6. Touch a Star 7. Causatum "The deepest level of truth uncovered by science and by philosophy is the fundamental truth of unity." Man it's getting harder and harder to keep up with these releases. Like a lot of you there is an absolute avalanche of music on my computer that I'm trying to get through and I'm drowning over here. All the coffee and cigarettes in the world ain't gonna help. So many albums that I want to review, but I just can't seem to find the time. However, when someone asks me to construct a review I do my best to put it at the top of the list. For those of us who have been long time goa trancers this Norwegian duo is goa royalty. They've been there since the beginning, and Earthcall is their fifth album. For me they garner the same amount of respect you would give the Pleiadians or MFG, all wise purveyors of Eastern melodies and part of the foundation from which goa music is built. They play the long game on this album with lengthy tracks that seem designed to hold you in that state of trance. The music is a drifting melody blanket providing comfortable cushion for a dreamy ride. Having never been a real fan of the Predator track in the first place, I had high hopes for the remix, but it played it safe and ultimately will be one of those tracks that fades into obscurity. Sacred Sands gets more aggressive yet still maintains the floating melodies and supportive details. The longest track on the album Crossing Planet is in the same vein with a more active and nimble lead perfect for twisting and twirling. Man that one just keeps churning. 12th Hour has a mysterious intro, but the track while good has a bit of a generic "goa" feel that fails to form any emotional connection. Touch a star gives a tip of the cap to the Crossing Mind sound, with a drifting, pensive track. Eerie even. As the album progressed the tempo and intensity increased it seems only fitting that just like in the good old days of goa they would end on a downtempo note. And man it's a good one. The sound exhibits power while spewing alien mysticism into the atmosphere. Well done. If you're wanting an album with insane 303 sequences and hard hitting power then you don't understand what this project does. They make melodic, flowing goa trance to transport the listener which holds he or she aloft. The album is super melodic (surprise) and very trance inducing. I had zero issues with the sound or the hot topic of mastering and enjoyed the tracks for what they are. While not my favorite Suntrip release, it's still top quality and a must for goa collectors. 23. Artist: Safi Connection Title: Shout Aluma Label: Spliff Music Date: 2006 1. Trip dot Com 2. Reborn Free (Album Edit) 3. Hope Matters 4. Over Me 5. Shout Aluma 6. D.M.A. 7. Music 8. Bitter Sweet 9. Stanko 10. Lolly Bong It has taken a long time, but I do believe I have finally found the worst psytrance album ever produced. Ever. I don't know if that's his kid on the front, but if you think that's gonna prevent me from taking this down you are so wrong. The world needs to know. This is the total package of horrible. From the absolute sh*t show of a front cover to the terrible vocals found within this disc can only aspire to be a coaster. The lead sounds are annoying and the melodies are as childish as the cover. Was this put together in an afternoon? Was a bet lost? Top to bottom horrible music that made me want to kick a piano. And how dare you cornhole Master and Servant from Depeche Mode in here? And then to sh*t all over Bittersweet Symphony? Ok...I'll let that one go. Really people, there have to be some rules otherwise we cease to function as a society. I would bury this in the ground, but I fear it would crawl out and continue to walk among us. Best we burn it, scatter the ashes, and never speak of this again. God help us. Psyshop
  24. 'Welcome to the next generation of science!" Oh how the mighty have fallen... Skittletrance. Full-on with the cavity causing commercialism that causes involuntary eye rolls. Which is a shame because the intro was a dark and brooding opener! It's like they did the absolute minimum they could do for this to qualify as psytrance. Ya hear that bass line in Virtual Violence? Made me think of this: I suppose you could pluck Bass Safari from the refuse, but that's about it. And what the f*ck is with the house track at the end? Seriously...this just set science back to phrenology.
  25. Artist: Zopmanika Title: Mysteryland Label: Sita Records Date: April, 2016 1. Liquid Dreams 2. Ice Queen 3. Crystalinks 4. Annular Eclipse 5. Fantasy Land 6.Trip To Nowhere 7. As Far As The End of the Sky (Feat. Agneton) 8. Look Into Yourself 9. Lost Touch With Reality He can't believe he's gonna get another crack at those interns... I'm a pretty busy guy, so I don't get to review as many albums that I'd like. Remember when we'd get like...4 goa releases a year in the mid 2000's? Well those days are gone and it can be difficult to keep up with the amount of new talent that's bursting onto the scene. Sita is run by Elias Gits and if you're Facebook friends with him you know that he's really busy being handsome and playing parties all over the world. After a very quiet 2015 Sita Records released the debut album of Bojan Taneski and man it was like...crickets. Did you hear anything about it? I sure didn't. Now Sita is the label that attempts to combine Nitzhonot with goa trance into a sound we can all enjoy and for the most part they've been successful. Personally I'm not a fan of the nitzhonot genre...too crazy and goofy. But there have been albums where it when blended with goa trance it has been done well. This is a bit of a mixed bag. Ice Queen is a powerful track with racing melodies while the longest track here Crystalinks stumbles with its changes in tempo and those same hyper melodies. I believe Trip To Nowhere strikes the right balance and even that gets a little cheesy near the end. Oftentimes it gets a little too Fiddler on the Roof for me. There are pumping beats throughout, but there are also segments of tracks where it's empty thumping or saturated with fist pumping nitzho craziness. And all that craziness is getting me tired. Perhaps nitzhonot is a young man's music, so the kids in Israel and Greece will probably love this. Yes I realize the irony of saying the music appeals to the young while using a gif from an old movie. Smart guy. Bottom line this is heavily nitzho influenced so if that ain't your bag baby, best move on. Psyshop Beatspace
