  1. Artist: E-Mantra Title: Signals EP Label: Melusine Records Date: March, 2016 1. Moon Horns (Re-Edit) 2. Ectoplasm (Re-Edit) 3. Liquid Frequencies (Re-Edit) If you follow goa trance, you know who Emmanuel Carpus is. E-Mantra has been king of the goa trance mountain for a long time. Rumor has it that he is ready to abdicate the throne and move on to other projects. Sad as that may be he has left quite the legacy behind him. From goa trance to downtempo music his sound is unmistakable. Originally released in 2008, he has splashed a new coat of paint on these beauties. The promo actually says, "crafted in a new vision." Don't know if that means new melodies or mastering, but what I can tell you is that the result is distinctly him. The music is floating stairs of melody as they gently carry you to a blissful place. Long and drawn out which submerges the listener into a deeper state of trance. The tracks are the same with the exception of the final one, Liquid Frequencies. Well worth putting into your E-mantra collection. Melusine Bandcamp
  2. Artist: Sky Technology Title: Free Spirit EP Label: Goa Records Date: May, 2016 1. Be Like Water 2. Free Spirit 3. If You Are Not A Human "Be water my friend. Be water." Dmitriy Kolosovskiy is known for his chaotic goa style, but here he delivers something slightly different. Free Spirit is a digital EP that focuses on going deeper into oneself perhaps. The pace is slower with a mystical twist on downtempo goa trance. The title track may have well been recorded inside of a Nepalese temple on top of the Himalayas. It's very spiritual with exotic instruments and intriguing percussion. The other two are smooth downtempo goa in the mold of an E-mantra. Relaxing and melodic. Pretty good ep! 3. "Time is a great teacher...that eventually kills all its students." So...is Kris...Lazarus? Metaphorically speaking? I think Lazarus rose after four days, but let's call that artist interpretation. Like Antic I love all the people that have chimed in on this. Great to read. Let me be the 72nd guy who will tell you that this is not like old UX. Maybe it's better. You would expect someone's sound to mature after a decade or so and his has. This has more in common with Eon Project than UX. It's very science fiction oriented with lush and grandoise atmosphere. Cyberntica meets Frontline Assembly. It combines strong rhythms with soaring vocal tacets. There is so much to like about this from it's thumping power (blunt force trauma at times) to it's immense creativity. Full-on beats, but like Oforia's Read More well done full-on. Length could be an issue, but each time I listen to it I care less and less about that infraction. All the tracks are stories and they are well told and use the length to allow that tale to unfold properly. With this album I got the same feeling as when I heard Auryn by BlackStarrFinale. It's different yet still incredibly engaging. Dark yet danceable. The Faithealers remix at the end is an exclamation point that had it all. Like everyone else I'm glad he didn't lay a full-on egg with his return, far from it. If it must be saddled with that label then think of this as the superhero of full-on. Maybe a team that just saved the world and now it's time to party. Welcome back to the scene Kris. Can't wait to hear more. And by the way...best artwork I've seen in a while. Neogoa Bandcamp
  4. Artist: Oforia Title: Read More (2 CD Limited Edition) Label: Zion604 Records Date: August, 2016 1. Incognito 2. Vivid Dream 3. Corona 4. The Blue 5. Locos 6. Oasis 7. Re-Transmission 8. Mad DMA 9. Pink Floyd - Welcome To The Machine (Covered By Oforia) 10. Unnatural Oforia - White Holes 11. Solaris - Extra Mundane 12. Oforia - Dimensional Exploration 13. Indoor - Vertigo (2016 Edit) 14. Oforia - Special Offer 15. Phreaky - Over The Moon (2015 Edit) 16. Indoor - Nothing Like A Good Friend 17. Tandu - New Aura Hmm....I've been meaning to read more. And now it seems that Zion604 has made that book appear more interesting. Musically speaking that is. Ofer Dikovsky is one of the pillars of the goa and psytrance community appearing as Oforia and Pigs in Space, but also in groups like Indoor, Tandu, and Phreaky. But honestly I haven't really paid much attention to him since those releases. I remember hearing Arcadia and thinking, "Well, there goes another veteran into the abyss of full-on. Say hi to MFG while you're there!" This album has been getting a lot of hype (great review by Manuser) so when Zion604 offered a limited edition 2 disc set that included not only the album, but also previous tracks from the happy days? I think my Paypal account ordered it for me. This is an artist that not only brings goa elements into his psytrance, but makes goa tracks. Vivid Dream is deliciously long and complex with percolating 303 pops and a large melodic backdrop with an innumerable amount of changes. Oasis takes the best of both worlds with a sinister goa vibe fronting a pumping beat. He uses these tricks throughout the album and even if you're not a fan of full-on, this is some pretty well done stuff. All the tracks are long and perhaps that's where some of the shine might come off of the diamond particularly if you treat full-on like our favorite cheeto faced, ferret wearing sh*tgibbon. "GRRRRRR!!!!! I Love Mexicans! And the gays!" While the original album is very good, the selling point for me was the second disc that contained old tunes/remixes from him and his projects with fresh mastering. I'm not one for Pink Floyd so that track didn't raise any eyebrows, but White Holes from one-off project Unnatural Oforia hit the goa sweet spot. Extra Mundane was a track that was made on the back side of goa, but still holds firmly onto some dark psychedelia. Dimensional Exploration (only found on the compilation Goa - Tel-Aviv) isn't his strongest effort it's worth a listen. When I saw the classic Vertigo was remade my shoulders were already set to cringe position, but the newer version had more punch while leaving most of the track alone. Gotta be considered a win right? Special Offer is just generic psytrance with nothing really special to offer. Worst track on both discs according to me. Just like with Vertigo, Over the Moon maintains it's psychedelia with a greater bottom end. Nothing Like A Good Friend is a decent track, but is deeply ensconced in the shadows of the much better ones. The final track is one of the most fluid and sinister mid tempo smashes ever. Everything just feels right. So with the 2 disc version you get some detailed full-on mixed with goa as well as some great tracks that Ofer had a hand in. I don't think it's essential as most of you reading this probably already have those extra tracks, but it's a nice tribute to one of the greats of the genre. Pre Order at Zion604 Bandcamp
  5. I wish Nano would get back to this style instead of the empty copy paste stuff they're releasing now.
  6. Ha ha! I accidentally hit the return button before I finished it! Maybe I shoulda left it the way it was.
  7. Artist: Various Title: Stompers Agony Label: Acidance Records Date: January, 2007 1. Menog Vs. Audialize - Mental Reproduction 2. Random - Bifurcation 3. Khopat - Come Closer 4. Tryambaka - Stroke of Luck 5. Toxic - Mofos In Da House 6. Sick Addiction - Today's Madness 7. Delsyd - Stompers Agony 8. Wicked Wires Vs. Brain Hunters - Mr. Mars 9. Brain Hunters - Genetic Poison 10. Meta - Boing! "Instincts play a very important part here so trust them." You didn't trust your instincts. Needed more Nadia Comaneci and less Kool-Aid Man. So when I think of melodic night time psytrance I think of labels like Timecode and Nexus Media when they were at their zenith. This collection of tunes is a level below that. There is plenty of acid, but there are also plenty of samples. It's better than full-on, but there are too many breaks in the action for any momentum to accrue. Mental Reproduction is the biggest stormer for me, but I also liked the groove in the 10 and a half minute Today's Madness. But there wasn't enough great stuff in that 10 and a half minutes. I mean, you had 10 and a half minutes...you couldn't make more than one f*cking basket in 10 and a half minutes? If you're on the hunt for really good dark melodic music I feel you might be let down by this one. A few good tracks, but there are a lot better albums out there. Psyshop Beatspace
  8. Artist: Various Title: The Next Generation (Compiled by DNA) Label: Phonokol Date: 2006 1. Psysex & Rocky - Japanese Awa (DNA Remix) 2. X-Noize - Rock It (Psy Craft Remix) 3. Melicia - Running Out Of Time (DNA Remix) 4. Domestic & X-Noize - Flaming Dart 5. Wizzy Noise - Behemoth (DNA Remix) 6. Quantum - Need For Lead (DNA Remix) 7. DNA & Melica - Magic Stick 8. Space Cat - Kreak Take 2 9. Injection - Massive Attack "Boys, what the f*ck is wrong with you?" I apologize if their grandmother is reading this, but DNA (Eitan Tanami and Zeev Kardonsky) are pretty much patient zero when it comes to the pandemic known as full-on. An insidious infection, it has spawned many copycats and taken the psychedelic out of psychedelic trance. They are far from the only perpetrators, but they must take responsibility for their role. Looking at their Discogs account it seems they have released the same album 5 times. True this isn't their artist album (even though they are involved in over half the tracks), but they compiled it thereby dragging all the artists represented into the swamp with them. It's unabashedly full-on full of rolling bass lines, hyper sample use, and glow stick melodies. Running Out of Time by Melicia is a blistering track and the only way DNA could screw it up is if they changed the synth sounds to dog barks. Low point has to go to the deplorable remix of Rock It which reinforces why people make fun of psytrance. Music we have heard a million times that really should have the psychedelic label removed post haste. The stops and starts, the guitar...Oh, the agony. Full-on can be done well and can be descriptive and detailed, but a bar set this low...well, that takes some doing. Not the worst I've heard, but man...just throw it on the ever increasing pile of low-mediocre releases. "Full-on as home entertainment, this cannot be the future. Can it?" May God have mercy on our souls, Kurt. Beatspace
  9. Artist: Various Title: Psychedelic Electronica (Psychic Deli Volume II) Label: Psychic Deli Date: 1998 1. Messiah - Ghost 2. Resonance - New World 3. Lumen - Out of Memory Too 4. Ectomorph - Trilobite 5. ECT - Catapult 6. Battle of the Future Buddhas / Fripic Bounce - A Handful of Tricks 7. Aether - Sentient 8. Nevasystem & Aether - Kinetik Space Dilation 9. Lunar Asylum - Twister 10. Bonky - 10 Percent "These are the seeds which will sow the destruction of the human race." Believe me. Sometimes I like to tackle a fairly unknown compilation. If it turns out to be good it's like hooking up with a friend that you never thought of in that way. If it's bad nobody has to say nothing and life goes on. This album has a doppleganger. Psychic Deli seems to have made an album in 1999 with the same name, but different tracklist. Weird. So what you get is a mixture of psy and goa from a bunch of the lesser known artists of the goa age. All of the tracks are psychedelic with strange noises and the goa avoids the melodic tour de force which defined the golden age. Trilobite has loads of juicy sounds and I loved the break in Kinetik Space Dilation. The Buddhas don't disappoint with their brand of swampy psychedelic goa trance and Ghost is quite the journey. I wouldn't say any of these tracks are spectacular, but the compilation is a safe bet when you want lesser known psychedelic goa trance.
  10. Artist: Various Title: The First Pulse Label: Pulsewave Records Date: 1996 1. Dormant - Auspex (Intro) 2. ARTificial - Origin of Species 3. Asiodiziac - Skinn 4. Mnemosyne - Six Feet Over 5. File Operation Error - Manhunt 6. Clockforest - Systems On 7. Subconscious Aurists - Astral Interference 8. The Signus - Robot Zone 9. Juicehead - Anything Is Everything 10. Clockforest - Sun Mark 11. File Operation Error - The End 12. ARTificial - Lunimous Lullabye (Outro) Keep your distance ladies. I know what you're thinking. "Jesus tap dancing Christ this guy will review a f*cking ham sandwich." And to that I would say if I had the time. But back on task... With the exception of Mississippi and Alabama everyone knows that this is a dated look. The only thing missing is a member's only jacket and a pair or acid washed jeans. And that's what this compilation is like. I don't know where I got it, but I think it was a throw in when I bought some stuff off Discogs. Two decades old and man it sounds like it. Think of a smorgasbord of electronic music that will bring you back to the early days. I put it here because it has some goa sounding tracks in it. Origin of Species comes to mind and it wouldn't have been bad, but those crash cymbals! A lot of the tracks just sound like dated 90's techno and electro. Complete with rave sounds and orchestra hits. Throw in a little dream trance and gabber and it's really the total package of no thank you. Perhaps this will make you feel nostalgic. Not me though. Just made me want to delete it.

    V/A - Full On 2

Israel, best known for being the Holy Land and also having one of the deadliest armies in the world. "Shoot it!!!...it's a steel belted radial!" The second volume in this series from Israeli HOM-Mega provides IMO three tracks that are must hears. Martian Civilization is really good even by today's standards, and Double Doper is a powerhouse full of dynamite. Process Irreversible (Passenger Mix) by MFG is a chunky full throated goa track with 303's run amok. I liked the IM track just not as much. The rest I could take or leave.

    V/A - Black Rhino

How can so much black act so white? Is that a f*cking gas mask he's wearing? You realize by "dancing" under a bridge you're reinforcing every fairy tale definition of trolls, right? These kids need to stop cutting and start getting some hugs from mommy and daddy. Sigh. Black. Other than Black Forest Cake the color black seems to be associated with negative things. Mmmmm....cake. Don't wanna get caught in a black hole. Don't want to be beaten black and blue. In the Catholic church I was taught that sins were represented by a black mark on your soul and God was keeping score. And you definitely don't want to be stopped by a cop in the US if you're black. Broken tail light? You might catch a few slugs for dat. But the color black is still one of the most popular colors out there. It's the absence of light and as Hollywood has taught us we need to fear the dark. Thing is we love the darkness and we love being scared so it's understandable why we gravitate towards the blackness. So Flying Rhino brought us the dark side of goa trance and I for one love it. Even the track titles evoke dark themes. The whole album maintains a dark atmosphere with eerie sounds sometimes demonic sounds. It's a musical nightmare that will make you uncomfortable at some point with screeching leads and hallucinatory synth riffs. Psychedelic as hell and I agree the first time you hear it you might not like it. I think this is also the only place you can find the BPC/Slinky Wizard collaboration as Planet Slink.
  13. Goa Trance starter kit. It has some of the classics from a few of the greatest names in the genre. It's the same as Dragonfly Classix so beware on that front. Most people reading this forum probably already 1) know about this album and 2) have these tracks. But it is a super primer into what made this music so great. I also like that it isn't mixed so you get the full tracks. Classics like LSD, Double Dragons, Teleport, and Optimum Creakage jump right out front and are always great, but let's be honest we've pretty much beaten them to death. Personally I love the less heralded stuff like Space Midi from supergroup Omputer (Ofer, Raja, and T. Suzuki) and the screamingly intense Tornado by Phreaky (another supergroup). Utopia by Mandala is a smoldering shot of sunshine with ripping leads of its own. There are a few duds in there, but the compilation itself is well worth your while.
  14. 15 years. That's an awkward teenager with no rhythm getting her learner's permit. Perhaps a dog enjoying his golden years. A compilation that old that has tracks that still sound great is one you should own. Don't go hooking up the bong, cause I ain't the one to blow smoke up your ass and tell you that this is a classic. It's not. But there are some gems found here. It's dark and raw psytrance from a time when goa was in the rear view. Big Balls from Semsis has just that and Darkling Baby from Noise (aka Wizzy) is straight forward pounding psytrance. Om Shiva from legendary Tim Schuldt is a gothic stomper as well. April Fool's from Cydonia is like a soundtrack to the torture movie Saw, dark and full of despair and angst. Not their best work, but there just is no reasoning with a psychotic like that. And lest you think there isn't any goa to be found MWNN brings Retox to make sure you didn't forget. I really liked Dark Horse as well for its psychedelic intensity. The rest of the tracks delve into a darker tech-trance direction that weren't great, but weren't terrible. Take 'em or leave 'em. It's a worthwhile addition to you collection if you don't have it and you can get it on Discogs for almost less than whatever the f*ck Starbucks sells.
  15. Artist: Various Title: Alien Paradise Label: Fungi Records Date: 2005 1. Boogieman - Haunted 2. Natinel - Irritaded 3. Concept - Sequence Activate 4. Suria - Super Dooper (Menog Rmx) 5. Ananda Shake - Purple Heaven 6. Killer Buds Vs. Cosmonet - Consequence 7. Ananda Shake - First Rain Rmx 8. Cosmonet - Dreamland 9. Odyssey - Madrugada "Why do you ask questions to which you already know the answers?" The final release of this label and I feel like I hardly knew ye. That's cause I didn't. Not really, but there are some pretty good tracks to be found here. The first two tracks tend towards the darker side of things and are pretty good rumblers. Sequence Activate is the true stormer here with power and liquid synths oozing all over the place. Menog's Remix of Super Dooper isn't bad and Consequence by Killer Buds is good for some acidic madness. All in all not bad for something that is over a decade old.
  16. "When you dream there are no rules People can fly, anything can happen Sometimes there is a moment As you're awaking but you're still dreaming You may think you can fly but you better not try" Perhaps one of the greatest and most used samples in our music, no? Still love it. I sh*t on the music by Alien Project pretty frequently, but his remix appeals to me. Full of power even if it lacks the spirituality of the original. There are parts in some tracks which are worth hearing (like the break beat drums in Abunai) and it's nice to go back and hear some of the music that first introduced me to psytrance. Hollow by Panick is really a great track with some apparent techno influences and C.F.U. by Alien Project was warm in an almost minimal way. That said, it's still a collection of 2002 full-on. Which ironically (and shamefully) was miles more psychedelic than a lot of the full-on that came later.
  17. There is a theme here. Obviously these tracks are not identical to one another, but the level of homogeneity is off the f*cking scale. And even if you can find differences within the tracks none of them make me want to pick this up again. Taken one at a time I can enjoy some of them, but when they are all put together like this it's tough to make it through. Love the cover. I see the bear, I guess an elk, perhaps a hawk and a wolf and... Is that a duck making kissy face? Seriously I don't know what's happening here. I'll just put a little blurb about each track. Crumble Juice is the coolest name for a track. Just my opinion. It's a sold psychedelic opening. Blacklight District by Etnica is one of my favorite tracks by them outside of the goa arena. It's driving, dark full-on that will force you to dance like nobody is something something... Circles (Psilocybian Rmx) is Sasa at his bubbly, flirting with goa best. You can clearly hear the Braincell influence and we are all the better for it. Next Decade of Acid (Android Spirit Mix) is good stuff with its acid and movie samples. One of my favorites here. Dance Ritual has some cool sounds and is bouncy, but it's still lacking. Bong, James Bong is a stupid name for a track and there isn't even a James Bond sample. So my hackles are already...hackled. Not bad, but sounds similar to...well everything on this compilation. Stoned Lions has lasers and more quirkiness. But like a white rabbit in a snowstorm nothing stands out. Viral Spiral sounds like EVERY OTHER TRACK that Hoodwink has produced. Zombiegirl (Gaspard Remix) is a boring bunch of noise. Squirts and farts. Gets better near the end, but sorry that ship has sailed. A Long Story (Virtual Light and Manipulation Mix) ends the Sangoma portion of the program. Odd sounds and effects over a we mean business bass line. Meh. The Blue Council Friction Games begins the BHS contribution and let the forest games begin! It has a steampunk feel for me with quirky sounds and a Dickensian air. Or perhaps an Addams Family air. Yep, I wrote that. Doesn't mean I like it. Tetra India Express (Via Axis Rmx) is a good night time track which bubbles and still maintains that dark feel. Deep Blue Skies had a smattering of goa with its forest so that was a nice touch. Magnitudo is really dark forest and seethes with electricity. Elasticity has that rich, juicy sound that BHS is known for. Amphibian Council is another forest gem. Eerie melodies abound and it never lets its foot off the gas. But seriously, stop me if you've heard that before. Bioport is dark forest sounds to the bone. But ok we get it...forest trance. I can't tell this one apart from the previous three. Liquid Modulation (Mark Day Rmx) was a forest nightmare from which I didn't want to wake. Deliciously layered and psychedelic, but the slow down for the last few minutes was a downer. However, that made it easy to differentiate it from the last four tracks. So...I suppose that's a good thing. Bindmoggling wasn't. The beginning and the end were almost magical. The only problem was he stuffed a huge boredom hole right in the middle. So this release follows the trend of most if not all Sangoma albums. Not bad, really good in some places, but nothing that will have me reaching for this album again and again. It's an album with mostly mediocre tracks set to repeat. The BHS contribution helped, but wasn't without its shortcomings. The problem oftentimes with forest trance (same with darkpsy) is that a lot of it sounds very similar and going through several tracks of the same style can be exhausting. Especially when the same sounds are used, sounding like one long track. Goa has this problem as well, but at least there are different melodies in the forefront to break things up. And the BHS portion of this compilation sounds like one long mix where most of the tracks sound the same. But I'm a member of the old fart club so take that with a grain of salt. As I mentioned with the Universcience Sonic Mandalas review I'm still waiting for them to take that step into greatness. But they ain't there yet.
  18. Artist: Perfect Blind Title: Wanderers Label: Neogoa Date: April, 2016 1. Passing the Veil 2. Floating Spheres 3. Outerland 4. Syncope 2015 5. Lunar Dawn - Blessings From Irij (Remix) 6. Edge of Solitude 7. Sabled Sun (with Subscale) 8. March of the Dragonflies 9. Nephilim' Dance (With Psilocybian) 10. Wanderers Bonus Tracks: 1. Sudden Clarity (Feat. CUBErt) 2. Outerland (Downtempo Mix) Igor Ceranic from Croatia may not be a household name, but he should be. If you're a fan of modern day goa trance you have certainly heard his work. All those physical CDs you've got stored in cardboard boxes until Ikea gets their sh*t together and makes a great CD rack are probably mastered by him. He's produced under the name Dual Barrel , Deimos , Perfect Blind...even as part of the metal band Subscale. This is his latest effort, a downtempo album that is filled with industrial sounds and atmosphere. That's kind of his thing and if you heard We Have Forgotten under his Deimos moniker you would already know that. This is not Solar Fields or Aes Dana so if you're looking to take a nap then this ain't the vehicle. Calling this chill is a stretch. His sounds are dark and the themes are as well. It's immersive and layered with Matrix-esque futuristic overtones. He told me once that he tries to go lighter sometimes, but it usually ends up in a dark place. The album is a solid experience with industrial ambient powerhouse Edge of Solitude and the engaging Sabled Sun. Usually when guitars make an appearance it has a tendency to become a sh*tshow, but it was well done here. His take on Lunar Dawn's Blessing's From Irij (released on Blessings From Irij Remixes) is still a slowed down goa treat. Unfortunately I felt that March of the Dragonflies and his contribution with psytrance genius Psilocybian didn't really go anywhere. Missed opportunity. That said, I liked this album, but I think he's just scratched the surface of his talent. Personally I would love an even darker industrial goa album. His sound is so lush and he layers so well. Because I think he has the potential to be the next UX or Syb Unity Nettwerk. When you buy his album from his Bandcamp page you also get two downloadable bonus tracks. Now you can download it for free from Ektoplazm, but if you buy it from his bandcamp you can also bundle it with the Deimos album and that is highly recommended. Plus you get to help the artist and that's never a bad thing. Perfect Blind Bandcamp Ektoplazm
  19. What was a Brazilian trio (well, until 2006 when Enzio Abbruzzini exited stage left) is now a duo and is known for their acidic night time sound. This was their debut and if I recall it turned a lot of heads. Even after a decade has gone by it still seems to hold up. The acid is plentiful and the night time atmosphere continues to permeate the air waves. It stomps.

Katarina The glory days of South African psytrance are in the rear view mirror unfortunately, but like a phoenix from the ashes Sangoma aims to pick up and carry on. Their sound is different than Timecode; darker and oftentimes heavy with a forest edge. Universcience is Bogdanov Sergey and he was kind enough to release his early work for free. With so many releases that seem to come out everyday it can be tough to get noticed and attract ears. You have to stand out and for me this doesn't. I find it boring in a lot of places with nary a jaw dropping moment. Quantum Gravity had some heft to it and ironically Nothing Special was at least a little special. I keep waiting for Sangoma to take that step into greatness, but it hasn't happened yet. Sangoma Bandcamp Name Your Price

Any of this sinking in? Look I've never been the biggest fan of this project, but for some reason this found it's way to my hard drive. Since I don't download illegal things I have to assume it was merely part of some malware from some Russian porn that I also most certainly didn't download. And it is mal. Muy mal. Loud. Harsh. Build-upy. Stop and starty. Overly guitar friendly. F*cking hell this should come with an aspirin bottle. I'm thinking this is one final projectile vomiting fit, the last gasp from this project. And if it isn't...well it should be. But you never know. Take some time off, climb mountains, help the poor, and then perhaps come back and reinvent yourself. I'd link to it, but...you don't want that kind of midget monkey porn.

While I've reviewed Goad's Galactic Aviator and Veasna's Energy, this digital only release actually preceded both of them. With it's 50th release Neogoa's tribute to the producers from the Balkans is a 17 track compilation of goa journeys and downtempo contemplation. Literally translated to Spacewalk, It's a who's who of Balkan producers most of which you have no doubt heard of. And boy do they deliver. I didn't find any filler (even though I didn't care for the sound and structure of Universal Mind and Skylander took forever to get somewhere) and was pleasantly surprised by Cerridwen's Potion. Fluid and mysterious just the way I like it. Galactic Hunt by M-Run was his typical funky style and Orbiting the Sun had a definite E-mantra feel. Newcomer Arcane Voice fit right in and Cosmic Dimension's track was moving. Mixing in a little downtempo with our goa is a nice change of pace. I loved North Pole which combined goa, breakbeat, and perhaps a slight techno feel. Dive Into Merak is deeply mysterious with angelic choirs and a mid-tempo beat. Plenty to enjoy here from a lot of today's top goa artists. Another great release that I wouldn't mind having a hard copy of. Free at Ektoplazm

Sweet Ocean What'cha lookin' for? Bathroom? Girls or boys? Good news fruitcake you can use either! This is Target! Man there are a f*ckton of releases out there. No way anybody can digest them all. Especially in the progressive trance genre so it's easy to see how some can get lost in the morass. Zyce is Nikola Kozic from Serbia and he's been around a long time. Pretty much a staple for progressive trance. Recently his album was the highest selling on Psyshop so I decided to see what the buzz was about. The fact that it was released by TesseracT was an added bonus as I've usually had good luck with them. As per usual these days the music straddles the psy/progressive line and he gets a little help from his friends on a lot of the tracks. I'm not going to insult your intelligence and tell you it's music you haven't heard before. Cause it's not. But there is a warmth and a bouncy whimsy to it. Some tracks had an orchestral quality (Shiva) and the breaks highlighted the depth found therein. It's very soothing with nary a jarring or abrasive moment while maintaining a futuristic feel. He did turn up the heat with Witchcraft, the aggressive collaboration with Sub6 that was my favorite. That said it's not a very challenging album and has a lot of been there done that tropes. Done well, but done nonetheless. I enjoyed it, but I don't see myself frequently reaching for it. Good, but not great. Psyshop Beatspace
