Artist: Various Title: 7 Eleven Label: Hom-Mega Productions Date: June, 2003 01. Melicia : Running Out Of Time 02. Xerox : Out Of The Blue 03. Intergalactic : The Mushroom 04. Xerox And Illumination : Marley On Acid 05. Xerox And Illumination : Domination 06. Xerox : Frequency Drive (Hujaboy Rmx) 07. Spectrum : The World 08. Maskalin : Time Reverse 09. Xerox : There Is Another 10. Maskalin : High Fusion What the f*ck? Did we really need to make a Chinese boy Char-Pei hybrid? Just because we can doesn't mean we should. Look at the rolls on this kid! There's a reason the third world is hungry...he ate it all! Ever look at yourself in the mirror and wonder how you let this sh*tshow happen? That's what I did as I tipped the scales at 187 lbs or however many f*cking kilos that is. Now that ain't terrible if you're 5'10". Problem is I'm half a foot shorter than that. Changes had to be made. Perhaps the powers that be could stop making fattening food so f*cking delicious, but I couldn't wait for that. So I went on the Paleo diet. No sugar. Dairy. Carbs. Now I know what you're thinking. What else is there? Fruits. Vegetables. Nuts. And meat. Lots of glorious meat. This come to Jesus moment was brought to you by the word BACON and I can eat as much as I want. But there are things I miss. Cheese. Pizza. Cheese Pizza. Oh and the 7-11 staple slurpees are right up there. See...I fat shamed myself into reviewing this. But hold on a sec. This is pretty good. Well...the first half anyway. Full-on that retains its psychedelia, what a concept. Hell there's even some goa melodies to be found here. Most of the tracks have Xerox's meat print on it, and perhaps a decade ago that was a good thing. Another thing that the reviewer above pointed out was that it's mixed so that's not ideal. The middle and last half of the compilation are unremarkable, so clearly this isn't a must own. But before full-on became a dirty word this wasn't terrible. My God, am I trumpeting mediocrity? Someone get me a piece of pie.

Artist: Various Title: Technobotanic Tryptamines Label: Nephilim Records Date: August, 1997 1. Sarolta Monspart - All New Arrivals 2. Kopfuss Resonator - Reboot 3. Yopo - Ether Waves 4. Kopfuss Resonator - Whipbird 5. Psyko Disko - Overdose 6. Tetrahedron - Quicksand 7. Drop & Dash - Tamafunk 8. X.I.S. - Masquerade 9. Germinator - The Beat 10. B(if)tek - Quite A World "It's really quite a world that you've shown me!" This is one of those CDs that falls through the cracks. It's not a stellar compilation at all like Balagan or First Flight full of melodic classics, but rather a lightly mixed outlier that doesn't get the spotlight. There's a reason for this. It's not as good. Just that simple. It's more experimental or scrambly goa. There are some good moments, but also some noisy incoherent rambling. The screechy Whipbird remains the best track Kopfuss Resonator ever made. I still like it especially if I'm in the mood for something different. It's cheap to buy on Discogs and like I said it ain't terrible.

Seriously. Whoa. This is some of the most twisted psychedelic sh*t I've ever heard. It's a perfect blend of swampy forest and night time psytrance. The hallucinogenic layers are indeed deep against the backdrop of a rumbling bass line. The third album from psychotic Swede Tommy Axelsson is an absolute must if you crave lush, dark, atmospheres. You get some originals as well as some Twizack remixes, some of which are so bad ass that I'd buy an album of him remixing Christmas carols. Acidic flashes and seamless transitions to yet more twists and turns. Pure wizardry and one long hypnotic journey that I hoped would never end. This is how you do psytrance. Period. Beatspace

Artist: Total Eclipse Title: Update Files Label: Arcadia Music Date; December, 2003 1. None of This 2. Jardan Temple 3. On the Road 4. Time 5. Distorted Soul 6. Totally Biodegradable 7. Multivers 8. The 11th Dimension 9. Chewbaka 10. Aguas Blancas "None of this is real." This totally nails how I feel about this release. Zero emotion. There are no highs or lows this just...is. Like a pine cone or the dump I took in the toilet. It's just matter. Even for 2003 this is a musical non-entity. We're coming up on the 12th anniversary of this album from one of the old is gold projects and nobody has even bothered to review it. The cover art is such a colossal misrepresentation of the music inside. So utterly non thought provoking they could've went with this cover. Except perhaps the font would stimulate too much synaptic activity. It's on sale for about 10 bucks on Discogs and I assume that price includes the pillow and a blanket. This is the definition of vanilla. This is one update I shan't be downloading.

Artist: Tryon Title: The Twilight Solution Label: Hypergate Records Date: September, 2008 1. Frame Intro 2. Skyline 3. Reward of Mind 4. Freak Stuff 5. Magic Cooler 6. Out of Time 7. Paranormal 8. Twilight Solution 9. Sidhartha - The Sleepwalker (Tryon remix) 10. Atmos On Fire Ah it's that time of year again here in the states, where we consume more food in a day than most families in the third world get in a month. Obscene really. Our national holiday celebrates the extermination of a native people and outright theft of their land. What better way to commemorate that by doing what we here do best. Overeating. We actually shove a chicken inside a duck and then shove that inside a turkey and cook it. That's actually a thing. Bow down to the Turducken! So much food I wouldn't normally eat, but how do you say no to carmelized pecan and marshmallow sweet potatoes? You don't. You just become their b*tch and welcome them as your new starchy overlords. And as gluttonous as this sounds (and it is) this all day foodguzzle is just a tolerated evil so the retailers can shove a commercial Christmas up or ass. What are you laughing at Halloween? Don't think they wouldn't f*ck you and start celebrating Christmas in July. Syrian refugees are fleeing for their lives and we're doing carnal things to birds. Welcome to the United States. Now...since you'll be issued a firearm (welcome to Murrica!) and the requisite 15 lbs of added weight if you're lucky enough to emigrate here you will need some high tempo night time music to help melt away the flab. Tryon is our good friend tickle me Telmo and he lays a brutal acid smack down with his debut. High speed dance music with dark atmospheres that also incorporate a little forest growl. The bass lines are out of control and he uses acid as his weapon of choice. This isn't pseudo twilight music. It's four on the floor controlled chaos that makes no apologies. Does it sound the same? Sure, but acid doesn't care who it burns. Very good stuff. Now could you pass me some more gravy, I seemed to have gotten my second wind. Psyshop

Artist: Various Title: Butterfly Effect Label: Harmonia Records Date: 2004 1. Tristan - No Boundaries 2. Ion - E-Tom 3. Anax - Libria 4. Wizzy Noise - 10 'o clock 5. Tikal - The World Is Yours 6. Ion - Industry 7. Overlap - Sunglasses 8. Polaris - A.I. 9. Unison - Porno Trance "There's only two syllables in this whole wide world worth hearing...pussy!" And it goes downhill from there. You know what I took from this? Tristan has been making the same f*cking track for over a decade. That is some sad sh*t. And....that's all folks! Like a peep show from the twenties ain't nothing to see here. It's full-on through and through. Trying to pick the best track is like choosing the best smelling fart. The butterfly effect states that small changes in a complex system can have dramatic effects elsewhere. So if all of us just stopped buying this drivel it's possible that we could eradicate AIDS. Cure Cancer. Or perhaps (and I'm dreaming here) erase the Kardashian plague from the planet. Whichever time stream pans out everyone's a winner. Psyshop

Artist: Eon Project Title: Brain Filter Label: Transient Records Date: September, 1998 01. 08'26" Intra Neutral Power (Evolution Mix) 02. 06'31" Re-Struct (Electrodes Mix) 03. 04'35" Frozen (Minimal Life Activity Mix) 04. 04'49" Bio-Virtual (Biological Mix Part 1) 05. 07'28" Muta-gen (Thermoplasmic Mix) 06. 05'58" Poison Mind (Terminal State Mix) 07. 05'28" Fear = Protein (Molecular-Incubation Mix) 08. 06'56" Hydro-Sphere (Organic Life Form Mix) 09. 06'34" Re-Struct (Reconstructed And Remixed By Spies) With the release of the Faithealers album by Neogoa I thought I'd take a look at an earlier side project of Kris Kylven. Their one and only album borrows heavily from industrial acts like Noise Unit and Front Line Assembly. The album is a mish mosh of industrial music with danceable rhythms as well as some atmospheric ambient "mood music." Tracks like Re-struct flirt with goa, and the whole album tells the tale of a dystopian future. It's cold and mechanical and great for a listen when you need to get away from the four on the floor of psytrance yet still pine for some darkness. It's cheap as balls on Discogs, so this would be an easy way to get a great album.

Artist: Front Line Assembly Title: Echoes Label: Metropolis Date: May, 2014 01. Contagion 02. Leveled – Sonic Mayhem 03. Ghosts – Comaduster 04. Killing Grounds – Rhys Fulber 05. Echogenetic – Youth Code 06. Deadened – Liebknetch 07. Next War 08. Echogenetic – Blush Response 09. Exhale – Henrik Backstrom 10. Prototyp – HECQ 11. Leveled – Slighter 12. Heartquake – Techdiff 13. Blood – Haujobb 14. Exo – Hijacker FLA are the Jaromir Jagr of industrial music. They haven't slowed down at all (at the time of this writing Jagr just scored the overtime winner for the Panthers) and just keep plugging away even though they're a rat's whisker away from getting the senior discount at the local Burger King. In 2013 they released Echogenetic to much acclaim fusing their hard edged style with today's music trends. So a year after that they now put together a remix album with a who's who of industrial music. I don't know who any of these people are the same way I don't know if the immigrant in the kitchen of my favorite restaurant isn't giving my meal a little bit of the old special sauce. Gotta trust. And pray. Lots of prayers. And trust me when I tell you they knocked it out of the park with this one. The remixes are lush and dynamic. On the headphones it was pure aural bliss. Electricity courses through android circuits and I'm reminded of how great industrial music can be. Millions of bits and bytes flow in unison; morphing, oscillating like a sentient being. The atmosphere is robot futuristic, sometimes ruthlessly aggressive but often placid leading to a dramatic eruption that will rattle some windows. There are moments where the remixers bring back the old sound of FLA and I can smile and reflect. The programming is off the chart. The Blush Response remix threatens to start an electrical fire and I'm convinced the HECQ mix was created by some form of Artificial Intelligence. On top of awesome remixes you get two new tracks that were co-written by Ian Pickering of the Sneaker Pimps. Both are rich in sound and detail, but I was floored by the eminent danceability of Next War. When that hook drops it will forcibly eject you from your seat. There are so many standout moments it's tough to single out just a few. Even though I, uh...kinda just did that. The only gripe I have is that there is a deluxe version where you get 4 extra tracks, but it's only available with the digital album. Pickard gets it. Look thanks for the lyrics of the new tracks, bu I bought your little digipak, shouldn't the extra tunes be a reward for not being a pirate? Rrrrr you serious? That minor complaint aside, if you're a fan of industrial music or even electronic music (and I know that you are) do not hesitate to pick this up. Metropolis Bandcamp Amazon

Circuit Breakers - Nighty Night 10. Dickster & Space Tribe - Hack A Haka I know I pick on how bad Psyshop written promos can be, but c'mon man...you gotta do better than this. "Nano Records and Psyshop Music Distribution presents... a fantastic trance album from master class Artist 'Dickster'." That's it? That's not a promo it's a f*cking editorial. And a weak one at that. And what the hell happened to Nano Records? They used to be money, but nowadays it seems like their stuck in a f*cked up audio version of Groundhog day. It started with the subpar Laughing Buddha album and then continued with the been there done that Tristan Way of Life disc. This is an album of Dick Trevor's side projects, a compilation if you will, but he's involved in all the tracks. Let's see if it's three strikes and you're out. Yeah I like where this is going...Is what I said after the opening progressive trance track. It had all the elements to bring a smile to my face. But what began as a playful game of cat and mouse ended with a full-on nut punch. There is nothing here that we haven't heard a million times before. Like three day old birthday cake it's as stale as it could be. From Beavis and Butthead samples to the New Zealand All Blacks (I think that's what it is) chant this sh*t is tired. Doing the same thing over and over is the definition of insanity so ya'll must be crazy. Which is an insult to crazy people cause at least they're unpredictable. Sorry Nano...you out. Psyshop

Artist: Gaspard Title: Seems Legit Label: Sangoma Records Date: May, 2014 1. Spaced 2. Cannalize Legabis 3. Falaweeda Galacia 4. Royal With Cheese 5. Free Candy 6. DNA 7. Bamboclot 8. Little Switch 9. Riding The Rooster "There is more to reality than meets a normal eye." Covers work people, so fire up that MS Paint and take it seriously if you wanna catch eyes. That's why I gave this a few spins. Gaspard is Gaspard Besson who is half of Yab-Yum and a driving force behind Peak Records according to Psyshop's little blurb. Based solely on the cover I would have to assume this is not a Taylor Swift side project discussing how her last boyfriend is gonna regret cheating on her. And it isn't. One day you'll find the right guy Taylor. One day. Crazy thought, what if the right guy is really the right girl and you've been wasting time barking up the wrong tree? But back on topic this is music for the night. His debut is kinda in between dark psy and night time full-on. The bass line is the star of the show here with plenty of noises chirping from the darkness. Melodies? Maybe a few, but don't expect to be carried away on a cloud by gay angels. More like shoved into a dark forest by a troll wielding a 7 inch blade. At least that's what its intent sounded like. To be honest it bored the sh*t outta me. The days of making scary sounds as the monotonous bass line rambles on forever...I thought that f*cking ship sailed already. I could not differentiate track one from track...whatever. Since Sangoma is a sub-label of Timecode I expected more. A lot more. So...what this is is basically an eye catching cover with a sleeping pill inside. Night night. Psyshop

Actually more from column A if we're keeping score. The debut release of Boom! Records in the sweet spot that was 1997 and it's not the Pleiadians/Etnica type of goa trance. When it's not goa that instantly reaches out with melody and grabs me, I find I have to give it numerous listens to let the psychedelia wash over me in an effort to "get it." I suppose parts of it could be considered harsh (Curiosity Killed the Cat and yes I wanted to strangle that motherf*cker). While the artists that make the melodic stuff are pilots safely dropping their bombs from the safety of the skies, these guys are the grunts fighting the ground war. And they're losing. Badly. To these ears in 2015 it sounds as if it could've been so much more. Some of the tracks seemed to go on forever (Narcissus Intoxicus) like that last hour and a half of a high school day. F*ck, did anyone else swear the minute hand moved backwards? Some tracks had that twirling something (Praying Hands), and I feel it could really be a slayer with a good re-mastering. I wasn't as floored by the last two tracks as Joske obviously was, but they weren't bad. I would say this is a worthwhile addition to the goa collection if you can find it cheaply. And thankfully I did.

Just checked all of DP's (tee-hee) links for this compilation and they are all dead. So dead. So if you are in the market for a darkish night time bit of psychedelia from 2004 seems like Discogs is your only option. I find that it holds up well as I'm blasting it through my subwoofer. Not the most involved or deep psy you've ever heard, but certainly not the worst either. I liked the boom of the opening Phyx track and the Transdriver one is remarkably mind bending. Not the first thing I would reach for (that would be pizza. Oh pizza...I miss you so much!), but it's got some decent tracks.

Wild, deranged, twisted track, brilliant, this track alone is worth the whole album" I find your lack of accuracy and overabundance of hyperbole...disturbing. There is no way that Van Halen is better than Twister. No way. Van Halen was fine if not unremarkable until it got all key changey, but the pure psychedelic eruption of Twister is like a black hole swallowing everything that gets near it. I would say this was a good album, but like others have said previously even though it's solid and has its moments it falls short of a classic. However that's not going to stop me from searching for a copy.

Artist: Ion Vader Title: Expansion EP Label: Timewarp Records Date: February, 2015 1. For Deg 2. Ajjna (feat. Root) 3. Trip To Nowhere Ion Vader isn't an artist I've heard much or anything from, but since it was released by the good folks over at Timewarp I thought I'd give it a go. It's a short 3 track EP (Captain Obvious) that has it's roots in several genres. For example, For Deg begins with an uplifting sound and then promptly ventures into darker territory before it rockets into cosmic goa. Ajjna has some tribal chants and is rather uninteresting until near the end when once again, the goa leaks out. The final track Trip To Nowhere is more of the neo-goa style I was expecting. All in all not a bad ep that sounds really clear. Hope he sticks with it as there is some potential here. Timewarp Records Bandcamp

Viajado Dis guy? Last I heard of this project he was the other guy on the Purple Energy album with GoAsia. That was almost a decade ago and I recall his tracks filled me with a profound sense of...meh. Seems as though he has been hittin' the goa weights because this was an unexpected surprise. Omegahertz is Dimitrios Pouranis and he has just planted his flag upon goa mountain. It's full of raw fury, with screeching 303's and a science fiction atmosphere. They go from the highest highs to the guttural growls all with power to break through walls a la Kool Aid Man. There is a lot to love about this release. "But dude, what about that artwork?" Baby steps young paduan. Rome wasn't built in a day. Still better than Goalogique covers. It's a storming good time that would fit nicely in your goa collection. Yeah it's a CD-r, but so is all the stuff from Submoon and we are quickly finding out how good that is. This is unquestionably a gem that is about to be hidden no longer. Dimensional Records

Seriously Charlie you shouldn't smoke, gives you cancer and you might die. Actually I picture his death due to a 6 night bender of heroin and cocaine after he gets behind the wheel on the way to the 7-11 for a pack of Funions. Only he doesn't die in an auto accident. He threw up on the way into said 7-11 and on the way out slipped on his own vomit and fractured his skull. Sounds about right. Never heard of these guys so I thought I'd throw myself into the unknown. It's got a dreamy feel with soft goa sounds. Kinda like I'm high. There's dub and that distinctive reggae percussion which lends credence to the high thing. Can't speak of reggae without talking about weed. And this is perfect get stoned and watch flowers grow music cause you can get lost in the length of these tracks. And because of that it becomes background music. Soundtrack to Candy Crush. And emails. There really isn't very much change across the tracks to keep my attention. Not bad, but nothing that would have me searching out a copy. Especially at insano Discogs prices.

Everyone can write a review. Everyone. It doesn't have to be a wall of text or a gif happy comedy show. There is no wrong way to do it...unless it's the wrong way. And by wrong way I mean not telling the audience what you like or dislike about an album or compilation. Just put the essentials in there and then a few words describing it. I've got zero training in writing. I've never met an artist or attended a party. I mean, have you seen some of my reviews? It's not Shakespeare. Some of the best reviews I've read are the ones that bring an album to my attention that I wouldn't normally have discovered. Generate discussion and different points of view.

Artist: Afgin Title: Old Is Gold Selected Tunes (2006 - 2015) Label: Goa Trance Music Date: July, 2015 1. Ray of Light 2. Old Is Gold 3. Old Is Gold (Part 2) 4. Amanita 5. Astral Experience 6. Shine On 7. Fly With Me 8. Violet 9. The Sound of Goodbye 10. Aden Prayers (Part 2) Afgin. How can you not like this dude? From the beginning when we found some of his goa trance mp3s on the web back when the goa resurgence wasn't even a thing yet. Then came the Astral Experience from Suntrip which was great goa that forced sunshine out of every pore. After that were a few EP's and the Emotional Peaks maxi album. If you didn't think it was possible for his music to become more euphoric and melodic, those last releases put that notion to bed. So here's how I see Afgin. Talented as hell, good lookin' guy that seems to always have chicks around him, and I think he kick boxes too. On top of all that have you seen his FB feed? Dude roams the mountains of Israel in a sweet blue rig. Do you know anyone who has this much life win? I wish this fool would run for president. I'm not making this sh*t up people. There are those that think Afgin has sold out. I suppose the sign that you've made it is the cheesy album cover. It's already been memed so I'm not gonna post it here, but he's been doing his thing for a long time. Even if you perceive him to have sold out (which he hasn't) you have to respect his contribution to where goa is today as well as the volume of quality material he has produced. I've never spoken to him and I don't know him, but it feels like one of us made it to the top. Now I would lose my credibility as a reviewer if I didn't mention the copious amounts of cheese in Fly With Me. It's euphoric melodic trance at it's most epic. Real Paul Van Dyk stuff. But even here, he cannot resist throwing a little 303 at you. The music is the classic, full Afgin melodic sound. Don't dismiss it as soft though because some of these tracks also pack quite a punch. You get tracks from his albums and ep's as well as some unreleased and some never before released on a proper CD. Even when he goes all euphoric on you he always leaves traces of his goa roots. He really understands how to structure a track so that it's not just a collection of sounds but a dynamic, fluid tale. Respect. The music is well done, sounds great, and will not fail to put a smile on your face. Psyshop Beatspace

Joske wasn't just hyping the sh*t out of this to boost sales. My man was speaking the gospel! The names behind this project are Chistophe Frere and Said Archer, artists from back in the day who never put out a proper album, but made some compilation appearances with tracks like Cow's Blues, Mariposa, and Feed the Mugwumps. Right from the first track you can tell it's going to be an acidic roller coaster ride. The Dancing Shiva bounces with crackling energy and groove while on the live remix of Mariposa they show that Seb isn't the only guy able to wreck a 303. Rising, rising and then unleashing. It's a bubbling sizzler. The title track is a monster that was made a few months ago just for this album. Pure and simple old school, in your face acidic goa trance. Now if you're anything like me you're asking yourself what the f*ck is a Mugwump? I thought it was a derogatory term for dwarf like Oompa Loompa, but it actually means an aloof or independent person. This is a remastered version and for those like myself who have never heard it a true treat. It's all over the place with chaotic acidic tribal wizardry. Vanaspati is ok, but doesn't shine like the previous tracks. Something had to follow the Mugwumps and unfortunately it was that one. Make Make and that sneaky lead had me dancing like no one was watching. It kept changing and adding new melodies, but kept it's consistent level of awesomeness. A Fast Trip also has that tribal feel, but only just cause you might miss it with the growly leads. The climax is a whole lot of twirling fun. Mars Base Alpha slows it down slightly with some shimmery sci-fi atmosphere and the climax of Tsuki is a mass of leads and 303 madness. Maelstrom is an accurate track name that keeps building until it erupts in a hugely acidic climax. Blistering. Closing things out is Kraft Karamel a downtempo track that descends from space and allows me to comprehend all that I have been deluged with. A welcome conclusion. Well, almost. There are two bonus tracks if you order from the Suntrip shop. Temple of Heaven can be found on Psychic Deli's Future Psychedelia and fits well on this album. Same type of acid chaos. Cow's Blues has a sound that really does sound like a cow mooing. Slower, but equally psychedelic. Are new artists making goa trance anymore? Seriously, the old timers are back in a big way showing the whippersnappers how it was and is to be done. Look I'm sorry I made fun of your name. You make music like this and call yourself psychedelic toilet brush and I'm going to buy it. It's old school all the way with a heaping helping of acidic power. You can get it at the regular shops of course, but as I mentioned if you order from Suntrip you get those two bonus tracks and you help out a label that's been delivering the goods since Katrina tried to swallow the Big Easy. It's a no brainer and if you call yourself a goa fan...essential. F*ck it. Get down Mugwumps! Suntrip Psyshop Beatspace
