  1. I heard they were being...evasive...about releasing old tracks or Synthetic Flesh.
  2. Seriously, where do we go goa people? We have been treated to some of the best in re-releases from the masters of the by gone glory days. I'm almost finished my review of Denshi Danshi, but we've had Shakta, Doof, Etnica, Asia2001, Prana...and it will all culminate with the 3-CD release of the Pleiadians. How do you top that? So I guess this thread could be what album from the old days should be taken up by the current crop of goa labels, given a fresh coat of paint, and put out there for all to enjoy? Here are my votes: Technossomy Colorbox Cosmosis - A real Cd not just the digital one that came out a few years ago. Bypass Unit Gangnia You get that sh*t going, I'm throwing money at you.
  3. Artist: Shadow FX Title: Direct Influence Label: Zenon Records Date: July, 2007 1. Full Floyd Rig 2. Left of Centre 3. Funktion One 4. Alkhemist 5. Intermission 6. Altered Perception 7. Liquid Cropduster 8. Brain Glitch 9. Woodlander "Your brain doesn't know the difference between what's taking place out there and what's taking place here." Did he just call me stupid? Careful son, thems fightin' words over here. We might send democracy your way. Based in Australia this is Peter Hayes who happens to be the brother of fellow artist Tetrameth. Which means absolutely nothing to me as I've never heard his music. So...blank slate. It's progressive trance that churns smoothly relying heavily on percussive sounds. And that sound is rich and a joy to listen to with melodies that don't readily make themselves apparent. Reminds me a little of Logic Bomb. Gentle sounds that surround in an almost minimal approach. But instead of becoming a snoozefest it has it's own vitality working wonders with delay. Works well on headphones and speakers so that's a plus. I believe it to be the combination of all the little touches which make this a deep release. Even though I liked it, I can also see the other side of the coin, where it may become too minimal over 9 tracks. If you're into soft progressive trance that can still be involving and sounds great, then this is something you might want to check out. It's not going to blow you away, but you'll be surprised how much good stuff is in there.
  4. Aurora Sidera Skizologic Robotised Arronax World Beyond Lunar Dawn
  5. Yeah. That's what I'm looking for. I've liked their Noise Unit, Synaesthesia, and Delerium (to a point) side projects. So any suggestions would be great. Time for some musical exploration.
  6. Yes it does. South African styled psytrance at its gritty finest. Dark and melodic with no cheese and more lasers than the new Star Wars movie. Grandma Death...is that a bass line rumbling that deeply or have I not eaten in a few days? This is one of those compilations where there are no let downs and no skipped tracks. Essential.
  7. Artist: ESP Title: Electric Space Phenomenon Label: Space Tribe Music Date: June, 2006 1. Rabbit Hole 2. Insane Monkey 3. Total Disintegration 4. Midsummer Night's Dream 5. Harmony From Chaos 6. Deep Purple Haze 7. The Acid Test 2006 8. Inner Revolution 9. Computer Crash "The question is...how far down the rabbit hole do you want to go?" Until you have to butter my hips to get me through the doorway. An Electric Universe and Space Tribe collaboration is as awesome as you would expect it to be. Acid, acid, acid. And then they top it off with a some trippy samples and you can have your very own hallucinations without all the paranoia and vomiting. This is proper night time music that combines power and melody in a great album. It's not without it's flaws however. All one has to do is look at Deep Purple Haze and wonder what unholy sacrifice they will now have to perform so they can undo the damage they did to psytrance. Also the final track Computer Crash is a bit of a cocktease. Don't start a job you have no intention of finishing. That's a life lesson for you free of charge. Overall though if you love the acid and the sound of these two projects you won't be disappointed.
  8. Artist: Dark Nebula Title: Dreamfuel Label: Digital Psionics Date: March, 2006 1. Unwanted Emotion 2. Mary Poppin Pills 3. My Domain 4. Dances With Werewolves (feat. Scatterbrain) 5. Our Priority 6. Kraftworld 7. No Religion 8. Pheromone 415 9. Clinically Insane (feat. Fractal Glider) 10. Round & Round (Live Mix) (feat. Kluster) "Your prescription for unwanted emotions!" Ok, let's see....I'm feeling, how am I feeling... *looks to sky for answer* like I no longer want this CD. "I let my guitar speak for me!" Oooh...that's unfortunate because your guitar annoys me. As a matter of fact your leads which sound like guitars annoy me. "There's nothing left for you but a slow death as your lungs fill with toxic gasses!" Seriously? I'm only up to the third track. Your marketing skills leave a lot to be desired. And I liked this track with its heavy acid bent. That is until the cheering crowd showed up. "Your safety is our number one priority." That's funny because I thought it was to make fast bass lines. Throw in some samples and acid here and there and you have a Dark Nebula Album. There are moments where I like it, but more where it just drags on uninterestingly. "My music is a pillar on which whole worlds have been built." Now that is just cocky. But I like the creepy sample. Surprise surprise another fast bass line and sample. This one had a little more groove, but it's missing something. Electric Universe and Space Tribe do the same things, but I suppose they do it better. Can't quite put my finger on it. It just misses the mark. Well, that and the "singing" on No Religion. Not fantastic. "You can't run from your past....you'll end up running in circles." Need I say more? I've got it. The melodies aren't as competent and easy to grab hold of, but I also think he tries to be psychedelic for psychedelic's sake. Instead of making a bomb track it just feels like a bunch of unfinished phrases run together. A lot of sounds and weirdness thrown in one pot and then just shoved in the neighbors faces. With the cover I wanted it to be a night time tour de force, but wishing for it doesn't make it so. It's not bad, but I judge music on how much I would like to hear it again. I don't need to hear this again.
  9. Anyone else have a clipping sound on Solar Journey when the kick sounds? Kinda like too much bass for my speakers to handle? Other than that it's smooth and relaxing if unspectacular. Good review Bill.
  10. Artist: Blue Planet Corporation Title: Overbloody Flood 2015 EP Label: Atmotech Recordings Date: May, 2015 1. Overbloody Flood (2015 Edit) 2. Overbloody Flood (Atmos Remix) Blue Planet Corporation is now a solo project of Gabriel Masurel and if you ask anyone in the know, one of the most important acts in the goa psytrance scene from the good old days. He released one album Blue Planet in 1999 when goa was practically on the way out and then pretty much dropped the mic and said "I'm out. Deal with it." Crystal. I'm out. Seems pretty f*cking cocky until you listen to that album. Talk about taking the express train to greatness. That album is a bonafide classic of TRANCE no matter what label you try to saddle it with. Now I'll be honest with you I haven't been keeping up with what he's been doing. I've got kids and those delicious pork chops for dinner ain't gonna make themselves. And let's face it the track record of the greats from the glory days coming back really isn't that good. But something told me to give this a listen. And I'm glad I did. First of all I will tell you that I didn't really care for the original track. Just didn't move me and he has plenty others that are superior. So from where I'm standing it was ripe for a remix. He slows it down to progressive tempo and increases the length. Before you begin your eye roll somehow he packs it with details and it sounds even more goa than the original. Clearly some black magic is afoot! Throw in the emotional strings and bouncy beat and this is a jam packed party in a track. Hippies rejoice! "I can't feel my face when I'm with you!" The Atmos Remix is another epic progressive arrow in the quiver. Less goa, but more vast, open space. It drifts amidst the clouds and is a great track, but I prefer the previous. If you're an Atmos fan then perhaps you have a different opinion. Bottom line I love where BPC is heading if this is any indication. Now just one more thing...can you please work something out where we the goa loving public can get a Blue Planet reissue? I already have a mortgage, student loans, and car payments so fishing in the Discogs pool would just sink me deeper into debt. Just a small request. Great ep and highly recommended. Get it here!
  11. No I received the link for the prologue. I was wondering if there was a link to the 3-CDs I just pre ordered. BTW...Outro on the 2nd track? That's different...
  12. Ordered. No downloads with pre-order other than the Prologue CD? Just checking.
  13. Gave this a spin recently and have to say it has gotten better with time. Especially with all the other crap masquerading as quality full-on. This is proper night time psytrance with a digital edge. Booming sound with acid explosions. I knew it was good when I initially reviewed it (all those gifs...why didn't someone stop me?), but it's better than that. Add the two supplemental digital tracks and as far as I'm concerned it's a must have.
  14. Artist: Various Title: The Science of Music Vol. 1 Label: Global Army Music Date: April, 2013 1. Abomination - Yabcoder (Abomination vs Shameless Remix) 2. Zinx - Knowledge 3. Brainwash & Klacid - Space Technology 4. Sick Addiction - Into Magic 5. Rubix Qube - Continuity Vol. 1? You mean there's more of this dreck? Oy. Lest you think this is some ground breaking sh*t let me assure you that the only science this contains is gotta pay my rent throw some sh*t at the wall oh look these guys will release it junk science. Before those sh*tty movies ruined the term twilight, this would've fallen under that category. Only it doesn't. It's not dark and it is more akin to the glow-stick noise trance masquerading as proper night time music. The leads are annoying and the stops and starts are plentiful. I'm most surprised at the presence of Mr. Qube's track. He's usually much better than this. At least it was just a digital release and didn't further pollute mother nature with an actual CD. I'm sure it's on Beatport, but their new site takes too f*cking long. Ain't nobody got time fo' dat!
  15. "The best way to predict the future...is to invent it." L'chaim! Oh Israel and your classic goa trance! Why do I feel that if I say anything not profusely positive about these tracks that I'll be labeled an anti semite? Every building has to have cornerstones and some of these tracks may be the foundation of goa trance. For some of you. However at the risk of being negative I'll say that the shine has come off the diamonds. For me anyway. After you hear the classics over and over again it's possible that they no longer will have the impact they once had. Remember the first time you heard the silky, smooth tones of a young Justin Bieber? Thinking that music had reached the pinnacle and everything else naught but a disappointment? I kid. He sucks. And like me you probably would take the opportunity to punch him in the scrotum. What was I talking about? Oh yeah, Israeli goa trance. Mahadeva the best AP had to offer? Meh. Maybe I'm just tired of waiting for new material. Power Source's Goaway is a classic that they've never equaled. I'll give you Magnetic Activity it still rocks. Alala is more annoying than anything else and Expose isn't bad I suppose. Surprisingly I liked the Nada track even if it really didn't go anywhere. The rest are good, but ain't none of 'em gonna set your house on fire. Bottom line, it's a good, solid compilation (not the greatest) that keeps the goa vibe alive. Can't really complain about that can we?
  16. Artist: Various Title: Bounce Label: Materia Records Date: November, 2008 1. Voyager (Aka Altom) - Dangerous 2. Mad Maxx Vs. Mad Hatter Vs. Audio-X Vs. Cosmonet - Deep Down 3. Audio Hijack - Subconscious 4. Kali - Deep Space 5. Vibraddict - Don't Stop 6. Ignition - Horse Race 7. Bio Genesis - Close Encounters 8. Speedball Vs. Psykid - Out of Control 9. Brainbokka feat. Varun - Blazer 10. Delysid Vs. Brain Hunters - Sensations 11. Audialize - East X-Press Can I make it any clearer? This is the perfect gif to summarize the full-on sh*tfest onslaught that was the psytrance scene in the mid to late 2000's. Every full-on release was a carbon copy of a carbon copy. Imagine swimming in a sewer underneath a Taco Bell where all you encounter is one rented taco after another. There is absolutely nothing special about this release. No standout moments, no twists and turns. Just 75 minutes of throwing up in a toilet. After awhile you're just numb and don't feel anything. Congratulations Materia you've just written the soundtrack to apathy. Psyshop
  17. Seriously people. You know a compilation is a turd burger when the best track on it is from California Sunshine. That said it is perhaps one of the best goa trance tracks I've ever heard from them. Also the Ego Killer remix is a bit of dark tech trance which ain't half bad. The rest is a constant nut punch. If you love cheese and nails on the chalkboard moments then you will love this. I'm beginning to question whether or not Talamasca on his own actually had any positive effect on psytrance. Talafrica is terribly boring The witch cackle in Witch is an embarrassment and I've yet to hear a Holymen track that didn't make me want to start cutting myself. Turd burger. Sh*t sandwich.
  18. Artist: GoaTree Title: Akasha Connection Label: Neogoa Date: September, 2015 1 - Aura 2 - Neural Oscillation 3 - Akasha Connection 4 - Don't You 5 - Oblivion Planet (vs Somnesia) 6 - Invisible People 7 - Weekly Drive (GoaTree Remix) 8 - Order To My Chaos 9 - Artificial Intelligence "You know I love you don't you?" "What the f*ck are they doing up there?" "Promoter said showers are mandatory for party entrance. So they all jumped up there and won't come down." "Damn shame what the fat one is doing to that tree. Just a damn shame." And this is how GoaTrees were born. Probably. I guess...I wasn't really that attentive in botany class. And how could I be when there were so many hot chicks looking for that easy A? GoaTree is Lukas Bartosek from Slovakia which is somewhere near India I think (geography class had even more honeys in it). This is his debut album presented for free on the Neogoa netlabel (although not only net anymore, eh?) with artwork by the one and only Richpa. And it begins with a thumping good goa track (Aura) that I was rockin' whilst mowing the lawn. Good lawn mowing music for sure. Dats my whip! Straight gangsta! Husqvarna fo' life! Yeah, I'm 44 years old. I don't speak that way. Forgive my momentary lapse. The next couple of tracks bounce along nicely with some catchy melodies and I liked the breakbeat in Akasha Connection. Don't You has a repetitive chant (African I believe, but as I told you I was looking at the ladies so I could be wrong) that doesn't thrill me. So...do I? No I don't. Oblivion Planet wasn't anything special and Invisible People comes off as simple filler, limping along. Weekly Drive had a grand beat during the break which changed things up a little before it rocketed back into a hyper 4/4. Not bad. Order to My Chaos ups the BPM's to 160 for a high intensity workout and he closes with the downtempo/midtempo Artificial Intelligence. Is that a f*cking shanai? Again like a lot if the tracks on this album I'm filled with a large load of meh. What the hell happened? I've found his compilation tracks much more detailed and enjoyable than a good portion of this album. It's not bad at all, but he himself has set the bar high so expectations of course rise with it. Perhaps this could've been another EP release instead of an album where he branches out and flirts with different styles. The sound is great and listening to Aura tells me that he has the ability to deliver the goods. He just didn't seem to do it here. Free at Ektoplazm!
  19. Yeah, I'm just not feeling this. It's full-on (a la a stripped down Braincell) with some great effects, but it has some stretches where it's just you, a kick, and a bass line. Positives would include the atmospheric break work and the aforementioned effects, but I'm afraid I'm gonna need a little more. That said the 2nd half of the CD is quite strong. Close, so close...
  20. Artist: Amithaba Buddha Title: Goa Gate Remastered Label: Submoon Records Date: September, 2015 1. Goa Gate 2. Sarcophagus 3. Three Eyes 4. Secret of an Amulet 5. Sending Love and Light 6. Transphinx 7. Organic Humanoids 2 8. Water Goddess 9. Guardian of the Gate Two games into the NFL season and my team has taken on this identity. As a reviewer I have to absorb the music and its presentation without judgement or prejudice. Sometimes it's hard to do. I have internet friends who send me copies of their work and ask me to review it. It's great until I listen to it and it turns out to be a dumpster fire. But I write them for two reasons. One I enjoy doing it and two if I can shed some light on a release that you may not have been aware of. If the review is funny and you get a chuckle then everybody wins. Amithaba Buddha is one of the many projects of Filipe Santos and this is someone who has a history with Psynews. Not all of it pleasant. So what I decided to do was to list the reasons why you wouldn't like this and then supply a counter argument of why you might want to give it a chance. "It's Filipe. He says mean things, is schizophrenic, and is probably on drugs." Really? Maybe, but people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. I'm far from perfect and have done and said some things that I'm not proud of. We've all done that. However, this is about the music. Remove all other distractions and focus on the music. Kanye West seems like a dick, but I was rocking Gold Digger just like everyone else. "It's a CD-R. In a few years it's gonna melt and not be worth what I paid for it." One, I don't know if that is actually true. Two, the original Goa Gate was made 7 years ago and that CD-R is fine. Besides most of us rip that sh*t to a computer anyway. "It's basically the same track and sounds repeated nine times." I disagree, but at least I can understand this complaint. The album does follow a similar vein, but that vein is power and multiple layers of twirling goa goodness. It does get samey, but it's so good! The sound is rich with melodies that crawl from deep hiding places to take their rightful place in the sun. I find it impossible to listen to this and not dance like nobody is watching. Which is untrue cause my kids are always watching and then they tell Mommy and everyone has a good laugh at my expense. Ha f*cking ha. My point is this...love him or hate him you cannot deny his talent. I don't know him and unless you've been sitting next to him for the last 10 years you don't either. I don't deny his behavior has been perplexing and mean spirited at times on the forum. I don't begin to understand it and I damn sure ain't excusing it. Hell some artists might need that conflict and turmoil to make their art. But like I said in the beginning you have to listen to the music with blinders on. Filipe has been at this a long time and I would venture to say that if you didn't know who the artist was and looked at his catalog of work you wouldn't hesitate to put him up there with the greats of all time. This album is everything you could ask for and I am pleased that I have my copy. The fact I'm not getting extorted by the Discogs mafia is just a bonus. Goa Gate? Two thumbs way f*cking up. 21. Artist: Trinodia Title: Untuned Visions Label: Goa Records Date: April, 2015 1. Untuned Visions 2. Everything Allright 3. 4th Dimension 4. Intelligent 5. Snapshot 6. Escape 7. Change 8. Unseen 9. Voxel9 - Errors and Trials Trinodia is Daniel Eldström and he has established himself as one of the pillars of the current crop of goa trance artists with albums such as Astral Clouds, Stargazing, and Human History. But before all those great albums he was just like you, trying to find his way and discover his sound. Maybe not you. Cubase is hard, if it was easy everyone would be using it. This digital only release has been remastered and was his second album originally released back in 2004, pretty much the height of the full-on craze. And make no mistake it's full-on as Daniel will proudly tell you. But like most of his compositions the level of detail is off the charts. It's big on atmosphere and oftentimes groove. If the full-on producers today could make music like he made ELEVEN f*cking years ago maybe it wouldn't get rightly sh*t on like it does. This is good stuff with some really thumping beats and you might be able to detect a sliver of the the goa direction his music would eventually take. That being said as fresh and enduring as I think it is, it's full-on so it will never get top marks from a lot of people and that's understandable. Full-on is the red headed stepchild of psytrance. Daddy doesn't love you. I can't say this is essential, but if you're interested in Trinodia's great production of music other than goa trance then this should interest you. Psyshop
